It’s what I started with. After Goku landed on Namek, Cartoon Network switched to Funimation dub.
Ocean dub brings back so many memories
While kinda generic, the ocean dub soundtrack is kinda slept on. It's more atmospheric than any specific motifs, yet still fits this scene well.
Much preferable than the funimation bgm

Wow, the drawings for DBZ’s animation are really good. And the animation is less cheap/limited than I remembered. It’s honestly beautiful.
I appreciate that the production developed its own unique look over the years rather than recreating Toriyama’s manga art like the original Dragon Ball anime did.

I can't tell you how glad I am that these clips are on UA-cam. For years they told me brother and I that we we're crazy, that the characters voices didn't change. I almost believed it, that I was crazy. VALIDATION!!!!

Awsome quality, I remember watching this dub as a kid. Where can I find it in this quality.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t exist. I took 1080p Japanese version footage, cleaned it up (removed the grain, improved the colors, etc), and used AI to rescale said footage to 4k. Then replaced the Japanese audio with the Ocean dub, cut out/edited it all to have the same scenes and timing as the original did (which cut out and sped up some scenes) and bingo, finished. It’s absolutely identical to the original in everyway but of course with improved 4K quality 😁

Ocean Dub is actually amazing. I've always loves it and the extra dramatic feel it adds. Voices HIT and the one liners.. oh man. Especially on namek with the Ginyu force, fire 🔥🔥
Having the Purple Vegeta be voiced by Ocean Dub Vegeta was the best decision they could’ve made for this filler.

Fun fact: Goku is voiced by Canadian voice actor Kirby Morrow. Kirby Morrow also Scott Summers in X-Men Evolution. He even voiced Mega Man TAS.
Edit: Piccolo is voiced by Canadian voice actor Scott McNeil. He voiced Wolverine in X-Men Evolution, Dinobot from Transformers Beast Wars and even Dr. Wiley from Mega Man TAS and The Vulture in Spiderman Unlimited.
About that Kirby Morrow Passed away a few years ago in fact by the time the Inuyasha sequel Yashahime Princess Half Demon Got its dub Kirby Morrow only voiced Miruko for like a SINGLE Episode before he passed away in 2020.
Fun fact: Kirby Morrow didn't voice Goku until later on, right before The Cell Games. Here, It is Ian James Corlett voicing Goku. Then, somewhere during the Namek Saga, Peter Kelamis voiced Goku.

Where did you find such a good quality ocean dub dbz video ?
I remastered it myself, takes a while to do. Reason I started was because I wanted higher quality Ocean dub episodes and they didn't exist, so I took it upon myself to make them.

its because of the ocean dub that i watch dbz, even though when it came to the US, it was hevily censored, but i loved every moment of it... it was a real shame that funimation decided to change the voices right in the middle of the namek saga. i do like the voces now, but the ocean dub voices will always be my favorite.

When Mega Man was Goku. It'd be interesting to see how the series would've turned out if that voice actor stayed on when Funimation took over. Krillin's voice actor was cool, too, and don't get me started on the voices of Piccolo and Vegeta.

I like the newer vegeta dub however, the ocean dub vegeta is the original I heard, has a much better scream in my opinion, and lets be honest screaming is half the show so it’s needed lol. Finally, it’s over 9000 wouldn’t have existed without this vegeta. So this voice will forever be my personal favorite.
Good thing they gave up on scouters, for the most part, after the Namek Saga. They all would blow up reading the base levels of the DBS versions of most of the characters.

Ocean dub was the version I listened to when I watched this scene for the first time. EVERY other version fails EPICALLY at recreating the EMOTIONAL INTENSITY in the character's tone of voice. Another issue with non-ocean dub versions was the poor quality banter that would OFTEN downplay scenes involving intense emotions. Oh, and that music of the non-ocean version. It felt so outdated that it would feel so out of place. Like going to a rock concert expecting loud strong music, but instead, u get a slow Jazz that would put u to sleep. Ocean dub is and was the PEAK of Dragonballz audio. EVERYTHING else is so bad that it's like getting less than half the entertainment value the Ocean dub brings.
Brian Drummond is the best Vegeta voice actor when saying it over 9,000.

Not sure why but they would air the Ocean dub till Namek in NZ. Then switch to Funimation
IIRC. Dragonball Z was originally licensed by Funimation working with Saban Entertainment for distribution in North America up until partway through the Frieza saga, and they produced their soundtrack and voiceovers via the Ocean Group company in Canada. But in its original run Dragonball Z was eventually set to pasture as Saban scaled down their operations and shifted focus, and so the license died. Then Toonami picked up the show and started running it in the afternoons with their action cartoons, and it suddenly blew up huge in popularity. So Funimation picked up the license again for the United States, but this time decided to start dubbing it with their own in-house studio, and that's what Toonami wound up using. Some of the distributors outside of the United States decided to seek out a continuation of the original Ocean Group dub, though, which aired in Canada and other non-U.S. Western countries.
Had a vhs of this fight i guess it was this version because i remember this and watching it on tv hearing sean and chis i was like whaaa a remake 😆
