As a pistol platform as a whole, definitely not.
But, like the original ArmaLite AR-15, the original Model of 1911 - with its lack of a mainspring housing - is obscure.

They're my candidate for the example of the epitome, ur example, of any machine ever made.
To this day they're brilliant. The most up to date, perfected example, with a composite frame etc. right down the the very earliest military stock - they just work! Reliably!
A hundred year old model differs from a contemporary examples only in weight and "fit and finish" to a very high standard!
      That's a special thing.
A specially made example from the year 1911 hand made for an important person is to this day a genuinely accurate target pistol! That's a very special thing indeed.

For anyone who might care, rock island armory makes a classic 1911 that internet reviewers are a little mixed. I bought one had to do a lot of cleaning out of the box because the oil they ship it in is very sticky and the paint they use gets everywhere. But after a two hour cleaning session and removing paint from the slide for smoother action the 1911 is amazing put 200 rounds threw it no problem and has still not jamed or malfunction. $450 and I love the thing.

Rifle Trials: make the craziest concept guns to get 1% extra performance.
Pistol Trials: What if 1911, but modern

    The ol' standard.
The grip angle is less sharply raked than the Luger P08; I much prefer the 1911's angle. Recoil isn't what *I* would consider 'stout,' but I am a pretty big guy.
I think of 1911/.45 ACP combo as a firm *shove* of a recoil, as opposed to the 'pop' recoil of 9mm, or the snappy recoil of the .40 S&W.
