2019 Chrysler Pacifica E Hybrid

- Think your neighbors are unimpressed by minivans? First of all, why does that matter? Secondly, the Chrysler Pacifica E Hybrid might be the most impressive car on the block. It comfortably hauls seven and can travel some 30 miles solely on electric power before switching to gasoline for the rest of its 520-mile range. Tom Voelk looks at a Limited model, which might be too nice for the kids and their Happy Meals.

About Tom:
Tom Voelk is an award-winning automotive contributor to The New York Times. His podcast was the first to win an Emmy Award. He also married way out of his league. Now, stop reading this promotional copy bragging about Tom's photography and editing skills and watch a couple episodes. It's much more interesting.
Minivan owners are just less superficial than everyone else.
It's a better looking vehicle than most SUVs and crossovers.
Most? Really? I highly beg to differ.
If I ever drive a minivan electric or otherwise I give you permission to shoot me.
@@davidbeaulieu4815 LDS?
What color is this one?
I wonder if u can design a minivan that looks like SUV? Perhaps a big grill? Bigger wheels
I just took deliver of a 2020 Pacifica Hybrid last week, mostly thanks to watching your excellent review of it. It's great so far. Thank you Tom!
Had 3 Chevy Volts before buying this hybrid van so we'll schooled on hybrid ins and outs. Got tired of waiting for GM and other more reliable manufacturers to get such a vehicle in dealerships as we needed more room and comfort from a hybrid vehicle plus needed the $7,500 tax credit and end of year pricing. Had it almost 1 year now and confirm some of the things mentioned in video. The noises didn't bother me as you get spoiled with the lack of engine noise from these hybrid vehicles most of the time and when the gas engine does run sometimes it may seem more pronounced as you are used to not hearing the noise of the engine running. The light colored leather interior is hard to keep from staining but can be somewhat mitigated with proper cleaners and leather care products. The electric mileage is great for such a big vehicle just slightly less than the cramped Volt. The almost 600 miles per tank is great also. I have to add gas maybe once a month or less. Comfort, room and utility are great but no towing capacity.
The stupid award goes to their use of some software tied to the radio that you must use to set the charge schedule. The charge schedule must be reset every month or it will not charge on schedule which you need for off peak electric charge rates ( costs about $ 35 to charge per month ). No fix yet from Chrysler but they have known about this problem for years ( WTH Chrysler that is one of the main reasons you buy a hybrid or electric so you can use it mostly on electric, not where you want to have a glaring problem inconveniencing customers from doing such duh ). Never owned a Chrysler before because of quality and reliablity issues so bought the extended warranty something tells me that was a good move. Bottom line this vehicle is not for everyone, but if you need a quiet comfortable ride with good utility, great electric and gas mileage, the tax credit, end of year pricing and gas savings then go for it but try and get darker interior if you can, we couldn't find one at the time. If you are buying and have doubts about quality and reliablity get the extended warranty at a discount and if you don't need the tax credit just lease.
It seems crazy that Honda and Toyota do not have plug-in hybrid versions of their minivans. Or even a regular hybrid. They arguably have the most experience with those kinds of powertrains.
I suspect it may be because other manufacturers may feel that increasing sales in the minivan segment is a lost cause. Functionality be damned; SUV's are the "new black."
The Pilot is about to get a plug so I suspect the Odyssey will soon
That should tell u to stay far away from these hybrid Chryslers.
Toyota Hybrid Estima / Alphard / Vellfire vans & hybrid Honda Odyssey are all available in Japan for quite some time now . The problem is the north american customer who delights in pick-ups and big Suv
They go where the money is....:)
I love your new camera, the video quality is awesome !!!
Owned one a month so far. Love it. Driven almost 100% of my 700 miles so far in EV mode. I still have the full tank of gas the dealership put in the car when I bought it. Once I get my state and federal incentives in April, net cost to me will be $28k. Smokin deal.
Thanks Tom for your infinite wisdom as always, refreshing. I love that thing smart Hi-Tech stylish I think it's a great vehicle
Recently test drove the 2020 model, and I really like it. I'm a father of 4, my youngest being 1, my oldest being 20, and this allows me to have all of my children, and have enough space for the babys stuff and anything else we need when going on a trip, and allows my oldest to ride along and not have to take his own car. Plus its got entertainment for the kids and plenty of space to stretch out. I'm currently paying off another vehicle, and as son as I'm done will be adding this to my family's fleet lol.
Great review Tom. Again a winner when it comes to practicality!
Wish we had similar size minivans in Europe. Our MPV’s don’t even come close to the amount of tp you can haul in this thing. 😳
The closing line... worth the entire video. Well done. We're still rocking a Town & Country. It's our 3rd mini-van. I can't imagine going back to a truck or sedan. Having a van is like owning the automotive version of a Swiss Army Knife.
FCA really got the Pacifica right...good for them. A lot of people dump on them and some of the abuse is admittedly deserved but I think they can do great things when they put their minds to it.
Now to convince my wife that I really need that Hellcat....
Want. Want that Hellcat. Be honest, no one NEEDS a Hellcat. Call me when you get it though...
@@DrivenCarReviews Well, I *need* to be to work on time, ergo I *need* a Hellcat. That's the excuse I'm going with anyway 😂
This is my first time on this channel and wow! The production value of this video was the best I have ever seen from all car review channels I have watched. Bravo! Tom, you are very well-spoken and interesting. Do you have a background in the TV industry? Your research and review on this mini-van were impressive. As of today, you have earned yourself this subscriber. Keep up the great work.
A good product from that compagny for a change. Good revue as usual.
A lot of evil twins can ride with you in this
Thanks for the "fun fact," Tom. It supports my long-standing theory that the female half of the buying public has almost killed off the entire minivan segment. In the dim past when dinosaurs roamed the freeways my wife and I owned a Mazda MPV, the only AWD minivan on the market at the time. It was incredibly versatile and the AWD once saved our lives when we managed to get it out of a ditch on a snowy logging road high in the Cascades miles and miles from any help.
Nonetheless, when we went shopping in 2012 my wife insisted that we get a crossover rather than a minivan. She didn't want to bear the stigma of being a stay-at-home soccer mom and wanted the higher seating position of an SUV. Our relatively small family could sacrifice some of the utility of a minivan for those "advantages". We purchased a three row crossover but my wife made me promise not to tell the neighbors about the third row so she wouldn't end up being the default chauffeur for the entire gaggle of neighborhood kids. And yes, I've always avoided buying a pickup, preferring to rent one when I need it and avoid the pleas of friends and neighbors to borrow it. :)
Perhaps your wife would've been fine with a minivan, but she really didn't want to be the chauffeur for all the kids! Smart move!
@@treelife365 Surprisingly, as Tom implies, it's women, not men, who have almost killed off the minivan market. The men who complain that some SUV's (e.g. the Kia Sorento) "look too much like a minivan" may be saying more than they mean to about their own priorities for styling over utility. The long hood and short deck of the Mazda SUV's, for example, exemplifies a choice that automotive designers have followed for about a hundred years in sports cars and sedans. It suggests potency and performance, factors that some males feel is important to advertise about themselves in their choice of a vehicle. A cynic might argue that a Viagra prescription is a more effective and much more economical way to satisfy the same need. :)
@@stephenhendricks103 - Informative and hilarious, thanks for your reply! I thought that Ford was going that "not a minivan" route when they killed the Windstar/Freestar and replaced it with the Flex. Speaking of which, I usually see moms driving the Ford Flex! It wasn't such a hot seller, though... the Dodge Caravan is still more popular!
I drive a 2009 Kia Sedona and there's no way I'd trade it for an SUV.
@@treelife365 Good choice, I think. We have our second KIA Sorento. If the Sedona is the "un-minivan," many would say the Sorento is a minivan in a SUV suit. :)
@@stephenhendricks103 - The newer models of both look nearly identical! Mine is the earlier version, though 😁
I’m checking out the neighborhood more than anything. It’s beautiful 😍
I just traded in my 2017 Pacifica Touring for the 2019 Pacifica Hybrid Touring Plus Sport. That’s a mouthful! I thought the limited was too fancy for my little boys. The totally black interior looks great and will be more durable and I didn’t want more that one screen in the back. Anyhow, I love it. The black trim contrasts nicely with the luxury (previously tusk) white exterior. I am at a free charging station now with my toddler waiting to pick up my 4 year old from language school. If it wasn’t raining, we’d be able to take a walk and go shopping. I drive a lot for work in the medical field, so I will be charting a lot in my car while it charges. I can only go to cafes and restaurants so much. So far so good!
Thanks for the nice overview.
Good review - you presented some additional info some of the others didn't bother showing. Thank you.
Much better than a huge full-size SUV, especially if Chrysler add AWD option.
Not an SUV- that should be a plus! Americans are often strange in how they are perceived. Good review as always.
If people would give me shit about driving that i'd just tell them: Tom Voelk likes it and so do i!
Your videos are just amazing Tom... Keep up the excellent work.
one of the best reviews i've seen on youtube. very thorough. thanks.
Yessssss, Happy wife happy life... My X had to have a minivan. 3 years later, she had a minivan strike. Would not drive it anymore. So, now I have a 911 Turbo S, an E92 M3 and soon a model S P85D. None for her.
I’m not a minivan person or a Chrysler fan but, I have to say I like where Chrysler is going with this van. The extra range and lower miles per gallon of plugin hybrid make perfect sense.
Tom is back baby. Excellent review! Friend of mine owns last year version and loves it. Makes life easier with his twins haha.
Excellent review Tom. I am really impressed with the way you casually explain the eHybrid system. I too have a Volt and yes it confuses people which frustrates me because it should be a no brainer for plug in car purchasers. But folks like you that are so clear and concise as to the end of the day benefits can help educate folks that simply are too busy or don't care enough to understand. Well done.
Purchased my wife a Pacifica Hybrid Limited before Christmas. Now I look for reasons to go with her on errands because it's simply a joy to drive. Keep it in "L" mode for near 1 pedal driving. Carplay+20 speaker Harmon Kardon = Music Bliss. Kids stay quiet with movie library loaded on a USB drive for them to peruse. It doesn't bat an eye with a $400 trip to Costco with 5 kids. Wife actually enjoys not having to find her key in her winter coat when needing to access the side door with a toddler in arms. We looked at the Tahoe and Suburban but laughed as we walked away based on its poor storage space and ridiculously belly-button high loading height. Pacifica (and minivans in general) are much better at utility than SUVs. Friends can shun the minivan all they want. I'm the one who gets to live with the joy of owning one.
I think guys don't mind vans because we grew up around them. Back in the '70s & 80's, my dad had a dry-cleaning/laundry business, so as a kid, I used to ride around in the company Chevy van. I often sat on that rear wheel well, no safety restraints mind you, so up and down the hills of San Francisco. Nowadays, these are like luxury van conversions.
Great review Tom. I bought a 2017 gas model when it first came out and we love this thing even the wife!! It's her ride and she thoroughly enjoys the Pacifica's looks, comfort and all the safety tech. 30,000 km on it so far with no problems which is more than I can say for the 2014 Honda Odyssey touring I traded in for the Pacifica.....the Odyssey was very disappointing. Brand new with Tranny problems, huge squeaks and rattles and an AM radio that never worked!
Just traded in our 2017 Limited for a 2019 eHybrid Limited - we are super happy.
It'd be really cool if they made a version with rear electric motors for all wheel drive
Unfortunately lack of a four wheel drive option is a deal breaker for me though
This definitely needs AWD
Were you planning on off-roading it?
I live in northern Wisconsin and own a Jeep GC, a Subaru Outback, and a Mini Cooper.
The Jeep is really good in winter driving, but has some pretty aggressive, although still all-season, SUV type tires.
However, the Mini, with a set off Blizzaks is just as good in almost all situations as the Jeep and it is way better than the Outback with it's more car based all-season tires.
The Mini is my daily driver, summer and winter.
@@snailguy5565 I was going to say something similar. I went light off roading (winter, medium level of snow on the ground) a couple weeks ago. I have one month old winter tires.. I never needed to switch out of 2WD. And I am 100% certain it was all because of the good winter tires.
I live in CANADA and I don't need AWD, but I do need winter tires.
And.... HOV access in CA which means a lot. I like the 9K in rebates ( 7.5 K off Fed tax, 1.5K State rebate) and the various city, utility and county rebates. At 61 Ive traded in the 1/2 ton and use the van as it allows easy entry.
Exactly the information I was looking for about the Pacifica.
Best video out there. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Tom for the very good review with the the new gear.. really excited to see how it turns out..Excellent as always
10:58 Happy SPOUSE, Happy HOUSE. Men can be included too.
If these hold up well long term than this will be the best van on the market.
How awesome are your reviews! Keep up the great work Tom!
If they had stow-and-go seating for the second row in the hybrid I would have bought it right away!
Love my minivan. I fit! As does all my gear, and my kids’ gear, and their friends, and my brothers, and sister...
The images look sharper, I'm thinking its the new camera. If so, my contribution was worth it ! Usual great work, makes you want to buy a mini van even don't need it. Like a station wagon, these autos are a leap above SUVs. Now can you do a Lotus Elise, please?
How long to charge ?
The van and women makes sense. WHen I buy a car I pick what I want and sod all what other people think I should drive, this goes for brand, color and of course also type of car.
The Volt probably didn't sell that well because it was too small and not comfortable.
Tom do you REALLY buy ~15 packs of TP just to shoot the segment and then walk back in and return them? God bless you man. For the love of the art!
Tom has a "special relationship" with Costco. He's well known there for "borrowing" toilet paper. :)
Thanks Tom, excellent review. Unfortunately it’s not even on the radar without AWD. I know, snow tires......I have an unplowed alley that I have to drive through and then a 90* turn into my spot. 2WD isn’t cutting it, w/ or w/o slow tires.
Good review, thanks!
Thanks, good review.
We need to buy a new Minivan.
Hesitating between 3:
1) Kia Sedona
2) Chrysler Pacifica (maybe the Hybrid)
3) Honda Odyssey
All of them would be the new version (2019 or 2020 if they come out in August), and the top of the line ones.
Which one would you recommend and why?
I famously never specifically recommend vehicles, partly because I don't know what people like or need, partly because of my lawyers assistance. I can tell you my father has the Pacifica Hybrid and loves it. I'm guessing you can get a screaming deal on the Kia because no one knows it exists. The Odyssey is a safe choice because Honda has a great reputation. In the end, you'll need to go out and drive them and see which you prefer. Simple as that. The only real recommendation I can give is that the Pacifica Hybrid is by far the most efficient of the bunch (if you have a place to charge it). But if you need to drop the mid row much, it looses that feature over the standard Pacifica.
If you value the hybrid and you do most of your driving in the city, get the Pacifica. If you do more mixed driving and lots of highway and don't care about driving electric, I'd probably buy the Honda for perceived reliability and resale value. Wouldn't even consider the Kia for long term ownership.
Wouldn't mind driving this.
This was such an awesome review.
Great Video And Review Of 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. 😀
Great job Tom!
Great review Tom, you always make sense in your reviews. Unfortunately, you cannot talk sense into someone who has their mind set on SUV's.
For guys it's a simple logical decision making process that makes the Van win over an SUV. This is coming from a guy who drives a BMW SUV, but it is useless with a baby, the stroller eats up a huge part of the trunk volume, and makes costco runs very hard. The doors cannot be opened wide enough without risk of hitting the car parked next in parking lots making it hard to take the baby in and out. In a van they just slide and do not require more than 3 inches of space making taking child seat in and out very easy. The 3rd row seats of SUV's are rendered useless for adults, unless you hate you old in-laws/parents do not buy a SUV for the image, they create the image of an idiot who prizes vanity over convenience and comfort in my mind. Also, try getting in and out of the 3rd row yourself and see how you end up looking like a monkey in the process before you subject others to it to satisfy your vanity :).
I do not need a 300+ HP SUV with 0-50 time of 5 seconds or less for taking my baby and my family around safely and in comfort. Once the kids are a little older SUV can fit 7 more comfortably as the kids can get in easily in the 3rd row but then again no space for luggage/cargo. A rational person would choose a van everytime over SUV at least when it comes to taking kids around for a while.
Hi, what color is this vehicle? Thanks.
Stupid to not emphasize plug-in hybrid. It means it qualifies for a green plate and access to HOV lanes
When it is published this summer, It will be interesting to see how Consumers Reports 2018 "Frequency Of Repair Survey" rates the Pacifica. FCA vehicles have not done so well.
A majority of the FCA recalls and maintenance are related to the uConnect media thing, not the actual car itself and are either fixed by a software update or a car battery replacement (not the driving electric/hybrid batteries). The only notable engine recall thing was the overheating cat, which was mostly 2017's and early 2018's, that has been fixed. Third issue is the actual car battery (not the electric driving batteries) which, if it goes bad, makes the car act awkward. Usually a replacement of this battery fixes majority of issues.
That's pretty much it for what I've seen of common issues. I read the Pacifica forums, facebook group, etc.
I'm almost sad I don't have a lot of people or cargo to drive around - if I did, I would definitely consider this vehicle. It looks better and is more practical than most SUVs.
On a side note: it's such a shame what happened to the Chrysler 200 - it had the same design language but in sedan form. It was a really nice looking car.
My parents are empty nesters and they use it to haul big things and their dog Ruby around. Normally I'm not into large vehicles but this one's so efficient it kind of works for me. But I really don't need another car in my life....
@@dsugioaga True. I'll argue that some people were scared off by the de-contented ones that were in rental fleets. Those were wretched vehicles to drive and would keep anyone from visiting a dealership. The tester I had was a very stylish and comfortable car.
@@DrivenCarReviews Indeed. Light, agile vehicles are the way to go - you get fun AND reasonable MPG. Without the need for 300 horsepower. Still, if it has to be large, Pacifica seems like a good option.
Regarding the 200: yes, it certainly had some issues (especially the base models). But considering how nice it looked, I wish Chrysler had kept and improved it - but I guess the dwindling sedan market wasn't worth the hassle for FCA...
Either way, nice review and thanks for the chat, Tom!
A new Volt, AND the ELR? Look at you two!
Excellent review, much appreciated! I want one of these! Ah, but....only when the vehicle gives 40 miles per gallon and above. Not realistic, you say? Yes agreed. So I guess I'll have to settle for a Lexus ES h300 Hybrid which gives over 40 mpg and a cruising range of around 550 miles.
Good advice! Who cares what you drive 😊. I personally like minivans and this is before I had kids. Vans are very practical vehicles. Although the modern minivan is not mini anymore. I like the power sliding doors it’s convenient and spaceship 🚀 like.
What do you think about purchasing a used Chrysler Hybrid? Any pros or cons. It seems the tax rebate is a lie. My family does not qualify for it under our tax liability claim. I guess only the rich can benefit. So much for trying to get folks to go green! One would think this kind of rebate would also help families with kids...
Tom is at Carmax now unloading his ELR.
Uh... no.
I really like your style, it is fun to watch and listen to! It is interesting to me that you don't pay any attention to the price list of the vehicle, why is it so?
The last statements are true. My wife did not want to get a minivan. I was all for the minivan. To validate what you said, my wife did make the decision to buy an SUV. She drives it so she has to be happy
For all the people that complain about manual transmissions going away and that there should be more station wagons and sports cars, I always point toward the data. Car companies aren't just in the car business, they are in the "cars that make money" business. There's a difference. Which is why all companies are making SUVs and only four are making vans.
@@DrivenCarReviews Hear! Hear! Along the same line, I'm amused by those who apparently believe every auto manufacturer has infinite, immediately available production capacity and the financial and other resources required to churn out low demand models next week that dealers will almost certainly be unable to sell at any price above a steep discount. (Lookin' at the folks who want a V6 Rav4, a V6 turbo Miata, a V8 Escort, etc. etc. etc.)
The same goes for those who complain that top level trim features aren't available on base models. "Why can't I buy a Toyota with all the bells and whistles of a Lexus? Bawaaaa."
same here! I do bring up trading the SUV in for the Pacifica plug-in every once in a while to see if she's changed her mind though.
Great review!
Spot on video!
Thanks, Tom!
So, when you visit your pops, second row for you, third for the evil twin 👍🏻
Filling up the gas tank in my 2018 Pacifica Hybrid today....have over 800 miles traveled since last fill-up and still have just over 1/4 tank left. Not bad. :)
Love to see Toyota try one with their van.
True that ... I ask my wife for this van , she said no ... she prefers a truck coz I always wanted a truck prior seeing this van . Now I'm trying to convince here that I'm ok not getting a truck ...
Nice review
Nice car and review.
Time to do some research on reliability and warranty. And test drive.
Warranties are pretty good, I believe. However if you look at what people say about reliability, you'll end up avoiding it. I'd highly recommend one. Lots of people bash Chrysler unfairly, just make sure everything checks out before you leave the dealer. My family has had nothing but great experiences from them and FCA, and their new vehicles are only getting better ;)
IslandTosh I think FCA knew they would have to go out strong - Hybrid powertrain and batteries are 8 or 10 years. Rest of car is 3 year and 5 year for gas motor. It’s solid, not life changing.
I bought the MOPAR lifetime warranty being that this is a first gen product - unlimited years, unlimited miles
It has some reliability issues, but as far as I'm aware, Chrysler is the only one that also offers an optional lifetime warranty, with as low as a $0 deductible. Sadly, the lifetime warranty doesn't transfer.
It's a shame that Hybrid Estima / Alphard / Vellfire vans from Toyota & hybrid Honda Odyssey are all available in Japan for quite some time now .
This is a good looking car!!! Er, minivan.
Hoping this powertrain makes it into the Jeep CUV's.
Love this review and subscribed. need to replace my Q7 and research is spot on about men/women's opinion on vans (at least also here at my house hold). Do you (or any viewer) know what the max speed is for all electric and charging time for near dead battery using 120V? btw i happen to think the interior of the vehicle in the video is quite nice like my 2017 q7, Chrysler just need to update the instrumentation and move the electric motors to the rear wheels for those snowboarding/camping trips.
In our 2018, we can comfortably hold 80MPH or more on pure electric and it takes about 14 hours for a full charge at 120V.. This is easily brought to about 5 hours if you can get 220V to the included charger (it's a hack, but an easy one) and if you get an EVSE (either a plugin or hard wired with 30 amps) you charge in 2 hours.
I notice you haven't done a review of the 2019 Navigator.
Okay the video quality is excellent! And for a van this is really nice! It has a nicer interior than most general motors vehicles!(with the exception of Buick) I might have to get one of these for my company as a worker bee and stuff hauler. And saying happy wife happy life is the story of my life right now LOL it's not easy but I try =^_^=
I’ll get one if they ditch the engine, slap a big juice battery with awd.
My like is number 1000.
I love cars of Chrysler .
A great product!
I’ve been eagerly anticipating this review since your original review of the Pacifica. I’m very disappointed to hear that FCA has chosen to follow the pack and only offer important safety features on the Premium trim line. They really need to start optioning these on any trim, or better yet include them in all trim lines. Your Corolla hatchback review is a perfect example of just how effective they are. When we purchased our last vehicle we really didn’t want a leather interior, or the premium price ( given the choice I would have optioned a good cloth interior regardless of price, I miss the upholstery of the mid 90,s Toyotas).
I’m guessing that the lack of a middle bench, is also the result of the premium trim line, as I know when we shopped for our three row suv, we were faced with choosing the safety suite we wanted, or the 8 passenger versatility we desired as the up trim levels only offered captains chairs ( were a big family, and room for a friend or two is nice). I was all set to trade in our 14’ model year crossover and for this but, the lack of safety suit and 8 passenger capability with a cloth interior has me thinking perhaps I’ll wait a year or two for the competition to catch up. In the icy north auto makers annoyingly have heated seats and steering wheel default to off on even the coldest days, and waiting for the remote start to heat the entire cabin takes a while. My backside doesn’t like the initial bite of cold leather at -40. Plus we are kind of attached to our AWD, something I was hoping the hybrid system would allow them to include.
BTW Tom, I’m glad to hear you got your new camera. I couldn’t notice as I typical download your podcast for either listening to on my drive, or watching on my phone in my free time.
@ 5:52 you can see a nice easter egg! :)
Tom what do you do with all those toilets paper after doing the storage test? Does Costco let you return it or do you have a whole room filled with TP at home?
Costco lets me take them in and out without paying. They've been great for the past 15 years.
I suppose that my normal Auto Stop/Start defeat question simply does not apply...😉
Nope.
Tom - how much can the hybrid tow? Legit might get one.
Their official website should have that info.
I found a 2017 Hybrid forum in which someone said that the owner's manual states that you can't tow stuff with the hybrid powertrain. I don't know if that's true or not for this one, though.
www.pacificaforums.com/forum/433-2017-chrysler-pacifica-phev-hybrid-general-discussion/5209-phev-pacifica-towing-3.html?amp=1
It "isnt rated" for towing. Just the normal gas version at 3,600. First of it's kind so I guess they dont wanna take risk with the drive train.
@@thearousedeunuch Good question, something I missed. It is not rated for towing. Check The Aroused Eunuch's link.
Wait over a month to take delivery.... hahaha, I waited for my Ioniq over 4 months ;)
Jaw dropped
I don't think 30 miles for electric power isn't worth the extra cost.
THE 2008 IS BETTER
HAVE SWIVEL. SEATS AND TABLE.. FOR KIDS TO PLAY AND EAT. SNACKS..OR FAST FOOD.same time watching tv
Wonder how much it cost to charge and if that's factored in consumption how economical is it to gas models.
It of course depends on the electric rate in your community. In Seattle a full charge will cost around $1.30 and on average it will take the car about 30 miles.
@@DrivenCarReviews so basically the difference between electric and gas tips in favor of the gas type if you factor in charging cost and time, the cost to replace the dam battery, the inconvenience of dealing with removal and return of the rear seat. Then the price of the dam semi gulf- cart-van.
@@grandpa5508 If you see it that way so be it. It costs about 70 percent less to run on electricity here in Seattle. It takes 15 seconds to plug it in and charges while you sleep. I've talked to engineers and cab drivers who have put 100,000s of thousands of miles on hybrids without a battery change. Battery replacement seems to be a myth.
Absolutely top class review. Well done! Next time change your clothes, it looks like you just crept out of a back yard tent after sleeping over at your twin bro's house cuz you might have been pushed into the "dog house" by your wife and your brother doesn't like the way your feet smell, even though you have cool running socks, but you might like those socks too much and that is why your feet smell. So maybe, just change your socks already and things will be better for you.
happy wife - happy life!!!
I'm curious about something....what's the point of stating a 520-mile range? Honestly not trying to trigger anyone with this question. It just seems funny to me. At 70 MPH, you have to drive more than 7 hours straight to get near 520 miles.
Who buying a minivan, crossover or suv for a family is worried about driving more than 3 or 4 hours at a time let alone 7 hours??
The folks at FCA learned a lot about marketing this from the misfire of the Volt. Too many consumers get confused about a "32 mile range" which is just the electric side. By pushing the full range of the vehicle, it gives buyers more security. Frankly, I think it's smart marketing. I can't tell you how many people I've talked to people that dismiss Volt and other plug-ins because they misunderstand how it all works. Now that my wife owns a Volt, she finds herself explaining it to her friends and co-workers. It's not that hard of a concept really but still, people often times don't get it.
@@DrivenCarReviews I think this will remain an issue until more people start adjusting their view on cars. We've all been locked into the ICE 'habits' that we don't really think about what we are doing when driving.
What I mean is, when you see 30 miles of electric range, it's quite easy to think "Well I drive way more than that, it'll never work for me!". But, like myself and my Wife (took a moment for us to really think about this), you will realize majority of your daily driving is probably 40 miles or less. And since you aren't use to filling up your gas tank at home, it's odd to wrap your head around 'filling it up' at home could be a common thing if you had an EV or PHEV. Just imagine going to the gas station every day...except the gas station is your house..and instead of 5 minutes to fill, it's less than 30 seconds to plug in.
I try to get naysayers to think about their driving habits before brushing off an EV or PHEV vehicle. For us, we drive about 40'ish miles per day on average and the 30 miles of electric range covers 75% of that. We own a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and are on our 4th tank of gas, currently getting on average nearly 1,100 per full gas tank (16.5gallons). Roughly 800 miles for 3/4 of driving (I'm filling it up today and we have 1/4 left).
Now we are in the habit of owning a PHEV...and it's a bit of a mind-warp. Completely changes your driving habits. It's hard to imagine almost never needing to stop at a gas station anymore...or not at all if you drive a full EV vehicle.
Well done review, I appreciated the gender perception commentary at the end.
Tell your dad thanks for his purchase
