    Hi dear friend, thank you for sharing this interesting idea. But the description of how to make it is very incomplete. And the manufacturer must rely on his imagination, including the description of the electronics of the device, the dimensions of the profiles and the rail and wagon, and having a bom to prepare the parts. I hope you add them to Google Drive if you have them, because I wanted to make this. Thankful. Vahid from Iran

    I started building this engraver and found a couple of issues with the STLs. The bottom plate and base plate were too wide, the 625zz wheels would not tighten up to the 2040 extrusion. I edited the STLs for these parts, removing 3mm from the longest dimension. Base plate became 106mm wide and the bottom plate 82mm. That will tighten up the fit. I added a jumper from the 12V input to pin 31 on the Arduino Nano, which is voltage in. End stops for home position of X and Y were also added (not shown in the video). A great project, but many details weren't mentioned or shown in the video.

      @LoopLinks  11 місяців тому

      Thank you pointing it out. However for me this was not the case.
      I have not added End stops that's why it's not shown in the video.

      5v can supply from usb??, It is not stand alone so you dont need Vin

    • @ricardotrujillo9141
      @ricardotrujillo9141 11 місяців тому

      @@piyanopnuchanat You still need 12V to power the laser and stepper motors, so adding a jumper wire from 12V in to Vin, the Arduino is powered from the 12VDC power supply

      @@LoopLinks Correct, the lack of end stops is obvious from the video. I also downloaded LaserGRBL that has the ability to update firmware to a custom build that doesn't use Z axis, therefore allowing the machine to home without failure.

    There's absolutely no reason for this machine to be cantilever. you can see it sag when it travels farther out. It's ruining your burns due to it going out of focus. just properly constrain it instead of trying to make it look cool.

      I was thinking the same.... all these designs have this problem....it is easy to solve with the motor move further out. so it is in balance... with possibly a wheel touching the base

    I can't find the lengths of the rail and the extrusions. Am I missing something?

  • @fluxcapacitor
    @fluxcapacitor 2 роки тому +1

    Great achievement! And thanks for sharing this. I see you're also using a larger 2040 extrusion to support the platform on wheels (with the moving stepper). It offers more rigidity than a 2020 extrusion there. My project would be different though: tweaking your idea by making a more conventional but bigger rectangular setup with opposite parallel extrusions on both ends (width and length), do you think the longest extrusions (so including one guiding the wheeled platform) can be reduced to 2020? There would be two of them, one on each long side of the machine.

    • @LoopLinks
      @LoopLinks  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Yes you can use 2020 extrusions...there are many commercial laser engravers using 2020 extrusions only. Mine is a cantilever design so I used 2040. Although machine is still not rigid when laser is at extreme corner...there is a slight play at the corner 13:18

      @@LoopLinks Yes, I saw it moving slightly due to weight. I must say the main problem with DIY solutions (Cantilever design like yours, or square frame) is finally the very high price point of a 5.5W (true optical power, not the advertised _consumed_ power, which is a trick) laser module when it is sold separately.
      That's where Chinese brands like Ortur, Atomstack, Sculpfun, etc. are very competitive because they offer the whole product (including the laser) at an incredible low price (often sold with special flash offers).
      So besides the DIY route (time consuming!) I am currently considering a brand new AtomStack A5 Pro+ under $250. It has a laser with "compression beam technology" (lenses that stretches the spot vertically according to a 2D chord, allowing to decrease the width of cut + cut thicker materials) and a tinted lasertight window making it unnecessary to wear protective eyewear.

      Yeah but you need to add a support to the x-axis from the other side. As in the end I showed how much x-axis is tilting in the corner where there is no support and due to that there were some imperfection in the engraving.
