Pilots intentionally crashing a plane full of passengers is just about the worst thing I can imagine happening on a flight (see also Germanwings Flight 9525). At least with a technical malfunction, pilot error, bad weather or any other number of more common causes for a crash, there's usually only incompetence, design flaws or bad luck to blame. When the person responsible for your safe travel suddenly decides to take you out with him, it becomes almost impossible to stop it.
I don't think it ran out of fuel at all. I believe this was a deliberate controlled ditching into the ocean trying to leave the least possible debris trail. Which looks like what happened. And if you were going to intentionally ditch the aircraft, why would you let it run out of fuel ? Would be much easier to control the decent and the ditching with power. The fact that they found a flaperon indicates a low speed impact. Whom ever did this found some really deep water and ditched it as slow as they could. So it would just flood and sink. Thinking it would never be found.
I've long been in the casual-conspiracy theory camp (not being too serious about it) of one of the Diego Garcia-spinoff hypotheses. Specifically mh370 was hijacked over the south China Sea, probably by Islamic (possibly isis) terrorists and transponders were turned off exactly when Vietnamese airspace was entered. From there it was flown westwards with the intent to be 911'd into Diego Garcia. Before it could reach its target, Diego Garcia radars including AWOCs on patrol detected an aircraft flying low in an attempt to be underneath radar detection. When the corroborative fact came in that a Malaysian plane was missing, they realized an imminent terrorist attack was en route. From there it is plausible that Americans shot it down and kept the event an absolute secret in order to avoid the kind of global calamity that 911 was. This theory also does sort of line up with all the strange inconsistencies and hushed details concerning the whole event. A lot of people rightly suspect that the situation was a cover-up, including the family members who have made their own coalition denouncing the Malaysian government for allegedly fabricating and lying about details to everyone. I think the suspicion of cover-up is often misplaced though, I think the Diego Garcia theories are extremely overlooked.

The theory I described is definitely a kind-of "I want to believe" type of thing; I even said that I don't really take this theory that seriously. Nevertheless this theory is at least more plausible than some of the theories outlined in that pos Netflix documentary.

Nobody else pilot the plane other than 2 inside the cockpit. Landing, flying or crashing shall be the responsibility of the pilot unless series of engine mulfunction is reported. So pilot purposely ditched the plane to the sea.
