The Borg are what happens when some evil genus hacks the post singularity race and destroys everyone's sense of self with a virus but forgets to inoculate himself against said virus.
I am confused... Only a few other comments actually respecting that story. Why? A gunship, and the single man crew onboard, died to make sure Everyone Knew that human space would Never have pirates. A man died, not fast, but running out of fuel and air, spinning deeper and deeper into the galaxy. Look at what that ship said to the transport. He was not just saving them. He was ensuring that human space was safe... Now and always. He died adrift in the cold and dark, to destroy those who would prey on others. We respect the Churchill, and the legacy which it comes from. I am aware it is fiction. I don't care. I know men and women in uniforms all over the world who would, do and have paid that price. I know men and women not in any uniform, not even their job, who have died to protect others. Only a short while ago, in a school in the Eastern USA, a student with mental issues attacked his school. The dead include a student who delayed him to give other students a chance to escape. This is not new. A little over 20 years ago, after three aircraft had already been used as weapons, civilians aboard a fourth aircraft decide that "we are dead, but nobody else will die with us" and retook the aircraft, crashing it before it could be used as a weapon as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who know what I mean.
To add to the list of heroic people, I'm subbed to a channel called Yarnhub that tells lots of stories from history, mostly WWII, but other stuff as well. "Attack of the Dead Men" was about Russian soldiers who had been gassed, flesh was literally tearing off them as they mounted a final charge against the Germans and got their revenge. There's a rock band called Sabaton (Swedish I think?) that has a song describing the battle, they sometimes partner with Yarnhub. It's pretty epic.
Anyone who wants to learn about how Humankind can, [if we get our S=!t together anyway] possibly reach such a point within the know realms of science. Then I recommend Isaac Arthur, he has most of his episodes here on UA-cam.
You can still use a Circular Slide Rule occasionally faster than you can a cell phone calculator. Slide Rule has the advantage of being able to display all possible answers about a ratio (Multiplication/Division/Conversions etc) all at the same time… but a calculator can only show one answer at a time. Example. If you set the slide rule to 1/2… it displays all possible answer to “what is half of x?” At the same time displaying all possible questions to “what is 2 times y” as long as you have multiple questions about a single ratio, slide rule is faster
some birds have incredible strong beaks to break open nuts. so they will never learn how to do it any way other. why should they? But beware the Raven. They donnot have that beaks. so they needed to find ways. And they learnd how to use stones. they learned to drop the nuts from great hight. They learnd how to learn, how to discover. Do not fear the ones born fit for their task. Fear the ones that made themselves fit.
i think those aliens need to revise their definition of intelligence. active memory, memory and arithmetic are aspects of intelligence but they are not the whole. theirs your ability to problem solve and visualize and a lot more. heres an example: i am shit at math, i have trouble remembering the steps of equations and i have a lot of trouble with arithmetic. there's a person in my class thats the opposite, she is really good at arithmetic and solving equations. one day at the start of my geometry class we had to make a cone out of paper. some of the people in the back cut out semi circles pretty quickly, I immediately cut out a semi circle, the girl who everyone in the class would come to for help when the teacher was unavailable cut out a triangle. there are a lot of aspects of intelligence. its not as simple as "he cant add 3960 to 6790 in head he dum"
first story shows the human capacity for self sacrifice
2nd story shows the human capacity to learn
For LT Darnes, forever sailing the void to keep us safe.

Ground Control to Major Tom.
First story ending almost makes a grown man cry lol
"It's almost enough to make a grown man cry, but that's okay."
Considering the fate of that crew? I have no guilt at having tears.
I came close with no shame.
Yeah...(sniff) ...almost
More than almost.
Singularity is just the Omnissiah letting mechanicus ascend.
I can't help but get major "We are the Borg…" vibes from that last story
We are the humans, your memes will be integrated into our own. prepare for cultural appropriation. resistance is optional.
The Borg are what happens when some evil genus hacks the post singularity race and destroys everyone's sense of self with a virus but forgets to inoculate himself against said virus.
Yeah, that last story sounded more like a dystopia than a goal to me.

actualy a multi man crew but i see your point

love that man
Looked at his channel. Looks really interesting
Science and Futurism with IA is pure HFY origin story
There is no constancy in flesh but death.

I had it on .5 speed and was thinking wtf for like 15 seconds
lol , thats what i sound like before my first cup of coffee
That first story reminds me of The Legacy Of Drake Mcdougal, and in HFY I can scarcely think of a better compliment.

Hello 00
ngl, I do believe that if we where able to connect our brain to an array of quantum computer, and have a hive mind like deal, we would be unstoppable.
