Agree this is just general/routine maintenance. Big Bills are when you choose to spend couple of thousand £ on your beloved RR to keep it on the road. Reliability is in the eyes of the beholder. Also agree I cannot imagine owning another make/model of vehicle. Keep up the good work and very informative videos, regards.
I agree. Lovely cars and worth every penny.
I also have the 4.4 TDV8 . My aux belt went and took half the engine with it haha. £1500 luckily covered by warranty. Other than that, an alternator, inlet manifold and a set of brake pipes. In just over 2 years not bad. Very complex and expensive cars, but really nothing else that comes close.
Glorious vid cheers.... I don't have a Ranger Rover, but I do have a 3.0tdi Audi and the auxiliary went on that SHIT ME what a carry-on ....no power steering, the air was blue driving to the garage. Very good to hear you caught it before it came off, every continued success.
nice that your enjoying your range rover,
we dont all have pots of money but we work hard a deserve something nice,
keep smiling and enjoy it.
Preventative maintenance is the way to go . Had mine over a year and I love my RR 4.4 had full oil changes done engine, gearbox, diffs you will feel the difference once there done. Had power steering fluid change, coolant change, brake fluid and full set of brakes my idea is I want to enjoy driving. Things to look out for low coolant warning with no sign of water loss Suspect float inside expansion tank it absorbs water over time and fails just change the tank. Exhaust temperature sensor fault it comes up as EGR but its not this is a pain of a job how I know just done it .
You heard anything about turbo oil return pipe needing replacing? For a Modified item
Next job on my list is doing the left exhaust temperature sensor. Doesn’t seem too bad, tight space for sure. I’ll be dousing it in Kroil rust remover for a week before had.
Great review, keep updating, Had 4 range rovers and cant imagine driving anything else. Got a 2011 td 4.4 myself. Great vid 👍
Interesting update, Really Nice looking Range Rover and with your know how, at least you don’t have to pay JLR dealer prices, and it’s just general maintenance in the great scheme of things.
I think you got off lightly there pal, can you imagine the bill if you took it to a Land Rover dealership? Ker-ching! It's absolutely shocking that a part on a premium car can basically snap in two like that, 40K on the clock is breaking in milage as far as I'm concerned. Kudos to you though for keeping a smile on your face, you don't buy one of those old boats if you are not prepared for an eye watering bill or two on the way. Comes with the territory. Big expensive car, big expensive bills!
Same advice for the 3.6 tdv8, when my alternator failed, I checked the idler and tensioner pulley’s, all had some play ranging from bad to slight... anything over 70k miles and the idlers, tensioner and belts should be replaced as a service item before a failure. 👍
Useful update. Parts prices were not too bad considering.
That's my lottery win choice of car elegant stylish and most of all safe to ferry the family around in,,,great video, stay safe...
Level-headed and honest review, thanks
I enjoyed that. Totally agree on "why this at 40k miles?". Is it the engineer's original specs at fault or just the suppliers?.
Your comments on owning LRs and RRs in the past, at your age, have me thinking I chose the wrong career!. I'm a retired school teacher, double your age. At your age I was living in Lancs, 2 kids, and teaching secondary school in Liverpool. I could just about pay the mortgage and commuted in a beat up Escort, Capri, Metro, etc.
Am I envious?. Well, I would have loved a TD V8 but that time has gone.
I digress. Thank you for the advice and illustrations. I have a 4x4 (not Landrover) and noted your comments about worn steering bushes etc. So I'll buy a set .
I really do like that motor fella 👍👍👍
£600 is not a big bill for a range rover!
Thank you for this update. I have a 2010 HSE LUX 5.0. Bought it with 50k miles so your pulley story has me thinking to check mine. This is my first rover so while it leaves me anxious, I do love it. I just fitted 2” lift kit (Johnson rods) and 32” WildPeaks all terrain tires. It is awesome. I paid $165 for the lift rods and installed in about 30 minutes. There are 2.5” lift rods by Proud Rhino and these run $68. I’m shorter so I went w 2” haha
Any pics?
@@oldskoolmotors2802 I've never posted a pic in the comments before and it's much more difficult than I ever would have thought. Saw a tip to post a link to the image, which I did, but it's been erased. Sorry.
It’s not a Rover, its a Range Rover. Rover is a now defunct British manufacturer. If you need to shorten it, call it a Rangie which at least differentiates it from a Rover.

Great vid - thanks for sharing and maintenance advice. I drive the autobiography version, love the car but bills are getting more. Just failed MOT on electronic handbrake! £1200 to change module and fit😩.
Heard there’s a overhaul item you can buy.
Should go to a breaker yard get parts off a low mileage car
Love your range rover nice one 👍
Nice one mate love all your content 👍
Nice one.I also considered one as a family car but I’m going to sell my 90 td5 and buy 110dcpu td5. If it gets scratched or so it doesn’t mathers and I still can get off-road with it.
Ave had 90td5 and 110 dc Td5 loved them both
Would love to see a vid on your old defenders if you have stories/pics
Will have a look in pass photos
Have you seen sam motor and machine his range rover has done 190k great car you have got
careful changing only two tyres. It will put a strain on the drivetrain due to differing rolling radius. if you want a good recommendation of tyre for light off road use check out Cooper
oh - and check out web for Coopers as you can spread terms at 4x4tyres and get them fitted locally to you for about £20 each
It’s not a permanent 4WD system to no need to do 4 tyres at a time.
Great video and thanks for sharing !
Great Video ! ….. I am so tempted to buy the same as you have 4.4 TDi, I am 52 & disabled, need the comfort & could do with the extra space too for my mobility scooter, Plus the fact i have always wanted a RR.
I have a Audi SQ5 atm which is a 3.0 TDi & a fantastic drive.
What do think mate ?
I love mine mate. The tdv8 is a different beast.
I owned a discovery biggest money pit I have ever owned same with the range rovers blue oval rules
They do cost a lot in maintenance. (old or new) I owned a RR classic for 6 years and then bought a P38 that I have now owned for 9 years. Not cheap, but I have no intention of parting with it.
Nice video mate, I’m also an LR fan & owner, it’s probably not a good idea to change only one set of tires, you risk damaging your drivetrain due to different tire diameter on new and old tires, your car might also have an overactive traction system as it will detect tire slipping as front and rear will move at different rotation speed. So it might be advisable to change all 4 at the same time. Just a thought.......
You're perdectly right. On 4x4 you must replace all four tyres at once. While having full spare, surprise, you need to replace 5 tyres at once. I do it for years on my 4x4. This is the way.
I’ve just got a bluetooth gizmo that fits on my iPod lead so now my iphone 11 streams music perfectly and wirelessly. I’ve got a 2011 TDV8 vogue se it’s done 60k miles. Mines on Pirelli scorpions. There are two types of scorpions summer and all season and maybe even a winter. Mine are the summer. The all season have LR on the sidewall. I’ve been tempted to get Cooper all terrain tyres but I never go off road ! These cars cost about £16k to £21k with a low mileage so there are other options: only the S class 350d offers similar comfort and refinement for the same price. I struggled to like a SUV as much. I think out of the Germans the Merc ML is most comfortable whereas the X5 and Cayenne are firmer and more sporty. I’ve never liked the Q7. I think the L322 has a nice image now. It’s classy and understated and classic. The other big SUVS especially the newer more expensive L405 and the newer sport are more in your face and a bit gangland ! 😆The X5 is a bit underworld too!😆 Gangsters wouldn’t be seen in an older shape L322 which is why I like them! The lead and voltage converter was doing my head in on my iphone as it wouldn’t stretch enough anywhere and there is nowhere to put it but now I’ve got the bkuetooth gizmo it’s great being able to tuck it away and be able to leave the phone in my pocket or properly wedged into the cup holder.
I’m having a nightmare with squeaky brakes! Any ideas?
I agree totaly with what you say about the newer Land Rovers looking Ganster like. They will soon switch back to the box shape when they realise that the only people that like them are 17 year old wanna be Gansters but haven't got enough pocket money in their piggy banks to buy one.
Can I enquire - what was the Bluetooth gizmo you refer to? I have the same L322 and agree about the short cable. Would like to use your alternative. Thanks
Clocking cars maybe previous owner? I've had it with a very low mileage Jaguar X F S . so it can be done if you know what you are doing
I worked with a lad from Liverpool 30 years ago on a building site in London. He used to talk all day about "spratting girls batties" what exactly does that mean???
I use continental lx sport all seasons great tyres
You never thought about haveing a capri to your collection
Disappointing that the belt/tensioners/pulleys fail at such a low mileage.
You got a round doing George
Pardon?
@@oldskoolmotors2802 sorry it's just the accent. George round. Brown. I was messing. No offence intended. I do enjoy your videos
Thats why I'd never buy a RR. I love the look of them, but just too unreliable!
Fair opinion , but maintained properly there are no problems . You have to do it . Then funnily enough there are no real problems to be had . Plus buying right in the first place is key to success. In fact it's necessary to coin a phrase !
500💷 is not a Big bill on That type of car,
All that wrong with only 44,000 miles bit mad
Thought you might of changed then shit wheels
The wheels are a bit big, but look ok. He's thinking about getting new tyres so it would be an ideal time to get smaller wheels and some more serious bigger tyres.
There the oem vogue wheels
The wheels look nice, subtle, not too ott. They dont say "please look at me" i like them 👌🏻
New video live tonight of my new wheels and how I paint my calipers
