I remember my dad emailed Mike Leach back in 2008, and told him he was a 1st time youth coach and needed to come up with some plays. So Leach sent him back the full Texas Tech playbook.
this man legit said to GARDNER MINSHEW "do you wanna be 3rd string at Alabama or lead the nation in passing" he was that confident in his game and Minshew
Leach was just telling Minshew the truth. The only half-truth part was that Minshew might have been relegated to 4th string at Alabama, not 3rd. Minshew took it and ran with it, and now is making his mark in the NFL. Minshew was so much fun to watch, his senior season!
@@6starFenrir He is the backup QB for Philadelphia Eagles, he just may have a Super Bowl ring this February, and if Jalen Hurts gets injured, he's the guy. 2021: Minshew -- signed through the 2022 season with the Eagles -- Minshew was solid in two 2021 starts for Philadelphia, completing 68.6 percent of his passes and throwing four touchdowns to one interception.
How many of his athletes actually graduate from the teams that he's coached? Yeah, I know, who cares. Leach is an asshole and after several years of losing every Apple Cup, he will stink up the entire athletic department.
My favorite mike leach story is when he created a fake play script when he was offensive coordinator at Oklahoma and had the tight end “lose it” next to the longhorn sideline. He then created a real script with plays that would work perfectly against what Texas thought they were doing. Watch the video ESPN did about it. It’s hilarious.
I remember getting hammered drunk with Mike Leach at Bleacher’s in Lubbock as an undergrad. If you were half interesting you could have a long conversation about whatever. He’s a National treasure
So, I forgot to upload this like 3 weeks ago hahaha so some of the stats might be a little off but it doesn’t take away from anything I said. So, I hope you enjoy it because Mike Leach is something else and if you have never heard of him get ready. Next video will be about Andy Reid and the chiefs!
As a Sooner fan, I can tell you he is a LEGEND around Oklahoma. He used to come on local sports radio & tell the best stories. The man is hilariously brilliant. UCF head coach Josh Heupel was QB the only season coach Leach was here & he loved him. He said Leach was always talking about pirates lol. Leach is a national treasure.
I’m so glad we got him at State! Even though the season didn’t look great, he cleaned house and ended the season by being competitive with a small group of young players. He lived up to his reputation of doing more with less. He’s laying the groundwork. Hail State!!!
Congressman Kent Hance engineered that whole fiasco because he was determined to please a handful of pious Tech donors who were hearing rumors of Leach partying with his team. I imagine they're all over Lubbock news social media the last few days still telling us Mike's ouster was "for the good of the U". Hance saw himself as a VIP when he returned from his his short stint in the House of Representatives. I imagine his DC connections didn't hurt in him getting the Tech job. Lubbock was building a winner tradition never before seen on the Texas Plains. Hance wasn't about to let Mike upstage him - but Kent couldn't win the PR war against the charismatic Leach. Nor could Kent win an intellectual battle with Leach. Mike could even out-folksy Kent every day of the week, and that was the only game Kent had. His rise through the political ranks to Chancellor of TTU is proof intellect isn't required. Watch some of his speeches on the House floor during debate. Even Kent's press releases during the Leach controversy were embarrassing to his high school teachers in Dimmitt. A timeline of events in chronological order indicates Craig and Kent tried to use Adam and the free airtime ESPN gave Craig to smear Mike's reputation so thoroughly he'd never coach another college team. Having failed, their consolation prize was cheating Mike out of his million $$ bonus. Even the judge in Mike's lawsuit embarrassed Lubbock. Who advised Craig to run for congress immediately after Leach was fired? Who advised Tommy Tubby to run for congress after his fiasco at TTU? Why was Hance's contract renewed after all the bad publicity he brought on Tech. Why were there no Tech alumni on the board of regents? Do grads (regents) of universities across the nation care if Lubbock loses the best shot at a championship football program they ever had? Nope! They're interested in Tech's wind research, in building wind farms, in the med and law school, etc.
Mike Told Me ( and several other ppl ) months before They got him outta Texas Tech that they were out to get Him! And that when He Leaves, That tech would NEVER Be good again!! He was Right! GOD Bless Him.
I love that Mike Leach has gone onto become an immensely successful living legend while Craig James and his daughter Adam have gone onto become disgraced, embarrassed, and unemployable pariahs. It's one of the great justices in human history. When I'm really sad that thought always brings a smile to my face.
I'm a Husky fan, but college football in Washington is definitely more fun when the Cougs are doing well and I love Leach and his philosophy. Hope he sticks around forever and keeps the Cougs competitive.
Huskies are just about the only team that can stop the Air Raid. Their DC (now head coach) said he looked forward to playing Wazzu because they were so easy to defend. "They have been doing the same thing for the last five years".
I'm personally not a big Mike Leach fan. With that said, I definitely respect the fact that he's a good coach and his own person. He doesn't change who he is to suit others which is increasingly rare today.
2020 Leach is at Mississippi State, an SEC West team, that plays Alabama, Auburn and LSU every year. I'm looking forward to seeing how the air raid offense works there.
A few of those Oklahoma championship run years (even if they didn't win), was off his air raid schemes, but with good players. So it does bear out. In fact, the only reason Oklahoma won so hard against them in that 2008 year, was because Bob Stoops and co even admitted 'we ran almost that exact same offense a couple years back, and we came prepared to stop it'.
As an Mississippi State Freshman student I am super excited to have this guy as our head coach for the next few years. I’m really excited to see what he does as well, and I’m also a FMB tuba player. I’m trying to convince our band directors to do a pirate themed show next year lol. Either way, I think Mike Leach was a great hire for MSU!
I’m really big on geography and history, especially warfare, I’ve also watched college football almost every Saturday that it’s on since I was a little kid watching Tebow. I’m a sophomore in HS now and all I want in life is to take Mike Leach’s class on insurgency and football... holy shit that sounds incredible
Leach is an awesome guy. I did my impression of him in front of him and he was a great sport about it. He's like a Drew Brees or an Arnold Palmer. He'll try to stay and see every fan and talk with them as long as he can.
I've always been impressed by Leach. He would consistently have a "less talented" team perform way above expectations. His weirdness also just appeals to me as I consider myself to be fairly outside the box lol.
As an Auburn man, I wanted him to come in 09. Still would love to have him. Just knowing the southern stuck in the mud dead fish that control everything at Auburn, they wouldn't allow him to himself and want to control him too much. Which is a shame. So, I just have to stay up late nights and watch WSU every chance I get since they are now my second favorite team in the country BECAUSE Mike Leach is there -- imo, probably the most misunderstood and most underrated coach in the land.
In his early days as Hal Mumme's offensive coordinator at Kentucky during the Tim Couch era, he often had better quotes than even the "Jimmy Buffett of college football". Those were good times!
@@C.V._McCullar It's funny for anyone or anything Arkansas related to use that term 🤣 North TX, San Jose St., WKU, Colorado State, Went 0-8 in conference, made Arkantrash very familiar with that term. 😅🤣 use the term "loser" again 🚮🚮

There is a small dusty West Texas town called Muleshoe. Muleshoe was an okay football town they made it to the state semi finals in Texas once with a QB by the name of Lincoln Riley. But Muleshoe was not a state powerthe idea of them competing for a state title was unthinkable. Lincoln went to Tech and learned under Mike Leach. The Coaches at Muleshoe went to Tech and Leach and Lincoln taught them the Air Raid offense. A few years later Muleshoe goes 15-0 wins a state championship and literally shocks anyone who really knows high school football in Texas.
I remember my dad emailed Mike Leach back in 2008, and told him he was a 1st time youth coach and needed to come up with some plays. So Leach sent him back the full Texas Tech playbook.
Go post every play

How big was the playbook?
Prolly a fake script like he did against Texas when he was at OU
I want to believe this is true
Back after mike leach has passed away. Rest in peace to one of the most talented and hilarious minds in college football. He will be missed
Reporter- “how many teams should there be in the college football playoff?”
Mike Leach- “64”
@U Haul The NFL has 12 though
U Haul the NFL has 12
@U Haul In NCAA that'd be 60 teams
8-12 would be more than enough think about who’s gonna miss maybe not this year tho it’s a pretty clear 4
i think he was referring to the NCAA basketball bracket and wanting it implemented in football

Legendary man with a huge impact on the game of college football. RIP Coach Leach
Who's here after the tragic news he's passed away? LSU fan but loved this guy. RIP Mr. Leach. Prayers to his family along with past & current players.
His being "weird" is a just a cover for being a genius.
The man being weird is just a cover for pretending to be an intellectual...he is not dumb, but he isn't genius or even brilliant..he is a nut
I met Leach at a Trump rally in 2017! He's a really nice guy
