    Picked up a 165 about a month ago. No power steering. After investigation, the reservoir was slam full of water. Drained it and refilled with the correct fluid. Started it up, and had power steering until the line blew. Got a new line and put it on, had power steering until the splines on the main steering shaft and control are decided they didnt want to play nice together and striped. They were wore slap out. Ordered a new main steering shaft and lower splined arm and rebuilt it. Steers like a champ now. Good luck on your project!

    Good job guys. Glad the rebuild worked. Also I don’t think it’s anyone’s business what other people have lying around their house. Cheers from Missouri.

    Good morning Cecil and Heather!!
    Nice job on the power steering pump.
    I usually use type A power steering/automatic transmission fluid in a unit like that. It always works good right away in the winter with no warm up.
    Take care my friends!!😀😀

    I record myself now when I take something apart helps me with brain farts. Never heard using engine oil for power steering good job

      @SkinnersOffGrid  5 років тому +1

      Thanks O.T Yeah using engine oil is an old bush trick... Especially when the power steering requires hydraulic oil and it leak's into the engine oil. Cheers.

    That is a common problem with society these days I think. Especially people that live in these subdivisions with councils to approve colors and sizes of sheds and natural facades on the front of the homes. It doesn't matter if someone's dad or mother has cancer or a heart attack, the grass must be clipped to 4" and all the edging must be done twice a month......etc. very little compassion or understanding left in the world it seems like. You two work hard year round and go without lots of "necessities" when money is tight. I think you are good people and if having a few things sitting out is a problem for some wanker in the city, drive over and help put it away or shut up. Thanks for the videos.

    Hi Heather & Cecil. Nice job on the power steering pump. Hope that hose stops leaking. You need the tractor to finish off the landscaping to your property. Good luck. Take care. :-))

    Take something hard with a sharp point and scratch some match marks/arrows before taking it apart will help with putting your assemblies back together. Some folks use a sharp pin punch and put dots across from each other on the flanges. It does not wash off like using a permanent marker or paint.

    they call for automatic transmission fluid donex but they may not make it any more in the 65mf in later models they called for hydra trans. i put motor oil in mine to. because of the seals. some didn't have bushing and ran in the housing they were really bad for this. you may can have a machine shop to put bass bushing in them. take care and be safe

    I believe with the type of soil that is around the property and being at the low end of the grade it's a problem that can be rectified, whether you care too that's entirely up to you folks. Cheers🇨🇦

    man this is priceless info for anyone who owns one of these, i didn't even know that i could check/add oil there. would " jb weld " work on that line? great job u2

    • @SkinnersOffGrid
      @SkinnersOffGrid  5 років тому +1

      Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the video. Yes Jb weld would work as well, the silicone did work though as the line was a return line and not a pressure line...Cheers.

      Hello, Thank you very much. Did you happen to mess with the settings in the front that moves the valve body? There are two adjustment bolts with lock nuts that are supposed to have some play in them when you move your steering wheel. If this isn't the problem than I wonder if you have air in your system. Cheers!

    Is every time i replaced my power steering pump seal on my massey ferguson tractor that has a 203 engine it kept coming off.I speaking about the o seal that fits on the shaft. Is it that the tractor is over locking. Can u please tell me the problem. That pump is a brand new pump. Thanks.

    Cecil,
    I've been re-watching some of your videos with the Massey165. I have the same one and also notice the same problem with the power steering. How did you know that the power steering fluid was dumping in the engine? I notice on mine that the engine level is always too full and if I rev up to 540 RPM at the PTO, then oil comes out of the overflow at the front. I thought I was getting diesel in the oil at the fuel pump but now I think it could be the power steering. Did you only change the seal or did you also change the o-rings? Sincerely, Emmanuel

    If those gaskets were made of solid copper, I would have heated them up to red hot and immediately dropped them in water, it would anneal them to a real soft stage and then when reinstalling them they would have sealed a lot better by allowing any imperfections in the surfaces to flatten out and creating the seal.

    • @SkinnersOffGrid
      @SkinnersOffGrid  5 років тому

      The copper plates are not gaskets, they are shims for the hydraulic gears, they are supposed to be soft...Cheers.

    you turn the hole to the side only fill it to hole half full or you will blow some thing out.

  • @gfroese4799
    @gfroese4799 5 років тому +1

    Donex TG or dextron [good lubrication ] just make sure you don't fill the thing full or you'll blow the front seal out .

    The saying is; Chrome won't get you home and paint won't pull the plow. What looks nice in the showroom has not got dirt on her feathers yet. I would leave the dent in the bucket as its been there a while now and to straighten would weaken it as metal has memory and will try to go back to where it last was. Any chain or rope will auto center itself, when you lift on it and so all is good from where I live... about five thousand miles as the drunk chicken walks. I still don't understand why you don't weld a plate in the back of the bucket to lodge a pole in so that when you lift the arms of the bucket it would make the pole reach way high up in the air for setting ridge beams or just making a pole to winch off of and get something that you wouldn't reach otherwise.... Inquiring minds want to know/LOL
