    Very good information you share. I have a MF 240 4wD and the steering cylinder seems to be leaking inside past the seals making it difficult to steer. I’m always skeptical buying seals fearing they are not dimensionally correct for my part

    Ordered a kit for my MF65 steering on ebay, was supposed to cover all variations. What a waste of money... the main inner seal was wrong size, o-rings were missing and ended up with a lot of left-over bits. In future will try those suppliers you mentioned. Watching from AB 🇨🇦. Thanks for the informative video!
    I was wondering if they intended the back up ring to split on purpose? I have seen many others in different applications where they are split on purpose. It basically does the same thing just easier to install it.
    Im about to do one of those cylinder rebuilds on a 1969 MF 165. Also doing a clutch in it, because they hit something with the mower and it had a grade 8 bolt in the place of the shear pin, so it roasted the pto clutch off the flywheel. Got my new parts, just waiting for the machine shop to finish with the flywheel!
    Good video! Thanks again!

      Some are split for sure but they are usually split on an angle I was thinking.

    This is bad crack !
    Lance , in my opinion, puts on a very informative and practical show on here and the least we should be doing is hitting the like button!
    There is very little energy lost when moving your thumb and am quite sure no thumbs have been sore after the 740 of us have pushed that little button!
    Far too many fantastic mechanics have taken their knowledge to the grave where it’s lost forever so let’s be thankful that Lance is sharing his and the very least we can do is move our fuc#en thumbs onto a wee button ,, it’s called manners ! It’s a way of saying thanks !

    Love your videos great job! Have a Massey 135 1973 industrial it has a valve on the steering column with two machine services and I can’t get it to stop leaking. They sell a small kit and I’ve changed some of the O-rings and such I just can’t get it to stop leaking on the circular small plate on the bottom opposite the valve top ! the steering wheel pulls up and down. I’ve looked around and can’t seem to even find a new valve.

    I'm trying to fix power steering on Massey Ferguson 230. Basically there is no steering. No leaks anywhere, pump is full, but will not turn either left or right except when I jack up front of the tractor. Any ideas?

    • @BundyBearsShed
      @BundyBearsShed  7 років тому

      G Day Col, When the tractor runs can you see the oil swirling in the pump canister? Check if it comes better when you rev the arse of it and also make sure you grease the front end in case you have tight king pin bushes or the king pin thrusts have fallen apart. If the king pins were stuck you would probably hear the engine load up a bit trying to turn them. You may just have a worn out pump, a sigh of that would be the pump getting quite warm and the engine not loading up at idle when you try and turn.

    • @ColKorn1965
      @ColKorn1965 7 років тому

      I will try your suggestions. King pins are greased and easy to move the wheels with my hands when I have front jacked up, even with the engine running.

    • @BundyBearsShed
      @BundyBearsShed  6 років тому +1

      G Day Richard, Yes when they need a hone for sure, even with a slight groove the hone can take any sharp edges away that might cut an O ring.

    I am still stuck with this particular project on my massey ferguson 50. My issue is i cant figure how to remove the power steering cylinder itself. I am talking about the same cylinder you are rebuilding here in the video. There is 1 pin at one end and 2 "pinch knuckles" around a larger pin at the base of the cylinder. How do you get these out??? I have the shop manual but it is very vague. Ive tried multiple times and am stuck. I dont want to break anything. could you please describe how you removed the cylinder from the tractor?

    My control valve requires you to unscrew the valve linkage end by inserting a punch through the return port to keep the shaft from turning. I can't hold the shaft from slipping. Is there a trick to performing this task or am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

    Thank you for the video. It was helpful in a few ways, but I am trying to change seals on a small Kubota power steering unit. The circ-clips at the ends of the cylinder housing tube are on the outside, and once removed, I cannot see how they held the endcaps in place. I guess I now have to 'unscrew' the endcaps from the tube, as they do not just pull off? Do you have an answer for that part of the process? Also, when you 'lubricate' the o-rings, can I presume you just use hydraulic fluid?

    • @BundyBearsShed
      @BundyBearsShed  8 років тому +1

      +MrMurrstir G Day Murray,
      I dont mind at all. I cant recall doing a steering cylinder on a Kubota like that but it sounds like a few other cylinders we have come across.
      I think you will need to bump your gland in and you will find a wire type clip stopping the gland from coming out. Once the clip is out make sure there is not a slight burr near the clip as there often is, clean off burr and the gland should then come out is my guess.
      The external circlip is to stop the gland going in and hold pressure on the inner clip, the clip is often just a wire.
      See how you go and let me know we might be able to help someone else.
      I use grease or oil to lubricate the seals.
      I sent a reply by email as well, Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @@parakramasenevirathne5676 The only other information I see that is consistent is hydraulic oil will work as long as all other oil is out of the system. I have work on heavy equipment and used oil from 10 wt to 32 wt. We run 32 exclusively at the plant I work at. We have temperatures ranging from 100 degrees F to -20 F with few hydraulic issues. I hope this makes sense.

    Got another problem.. when using my massey 150 if it stalls or i shut it off when hot, i have to use starting fluid to start it right away. or wait an hour to cool off to start. everyone i talk to has never herd of it,

      Try tipping water over the injector pump to cool it down and see if that makes a difference, if it does the pump head is worn. Make sure the engine is stopped before tipping water on it.

    • @BundyBearsShed
      @BundyBearsShed  7 років тому

      The head of the pump is worn then. You will need a new pump. I think now a days you can get a new aftermarket pump for less than it would cost for a new head and to rebuild your old pump.

    So here we are in 2021 and I brought the same Bareco kit to find the same issues with a thin o ring and thin back up washer for the gland. My kit also had a hard neoprene dust excluding seal, not sure if that was supposed to be a softer rubber like the one in your kit? Another issue I found in my kit which I wasn’t entirely sure of was the seal that sits behind the dust excluding seal on the ram shaft had a noticeable taper on one side, like it is meant to clip into a lip but there isn’t a lip for it to fit into. I noticed the same seal in the kit you got in the video did not have the taper….so I’m wondering if it is for a different ram.

    • @BundyBearsShed
      @BundyBearsShed  3 роки тому

      There are 3 or 4 different rams and the kits try to cover them all but often dont quite get it right. The Sparex worked well for mine in this instance but I know it is not always the case.

    Hi Lance this is a really interesting channel. Do any of your videos apply to a MF 204? I have a reverse o matic gas. Quick question for you. When I press the gas on my tractor it does nothing for a bit, but then all of a sudden it just grabs and goes pretty fast. It seems there is no in between on acceleration. Any idea how I can get it to be smoother?
