Elizabeth Castle was where the last siege of the English Civil war Happened. there was an abbey originally on the left hand side of the parade ground which was destroyed by mortar fire by Cromwell's army. the barrack's where built on top of the remains. there are 3 manhole's outside the barracks that lead into the catacombs of the abbey, unfortunately they are flooded.
