I don't know for sure (might be a mandela effect) but I remember the PDA announcing something about either A) Riley's favorite sport being swimming. Or B) Riley excelling at swimming.
I think he didn't have a very important job proof: You can find an entry called "Notes to self" under "Codes and clues" in the databank. In the entry, it is written "Not enough - Credits Alterra's paying me". I also think he probably did have prior military training. Just by looking at his animations, the way he slides down ladders, climbs fast, swift movements... That or he's really hyperactive.
Legally, Alterra cannot charge Ryley by the uses of the materials since Ryley was “state of necessity” caused by Alterra itself, as Aurora crew member. Any courthouse nowadays would dismiss any charge against him and also reconvene Alterra to pay damages for Ryley due to psychological stress and any remaining body effect of the Infection - it is the jurisprudence of the full liability of the Employer
In Subnautica you (Riley Robinson) find blueprints to ion batteries/power cells in one of the precursor bases. And since they are way better than normal power cells (and assuming he still has said blueprints) maybe he could be given a promotion of some kind.
Late but doubt since they don't know how to create the ion blocks themselves, recipe is useless if you can't make something thats required in the recipe. Tho haven't played below zero yet so idk if the info came there or was made up but i remember reading that he cleared his debt by giving alterra information about the planet, life forms, materials, degasi crew fate, sunbeam fate etc
Here’s my attempt to give a biography to Subnautica’s silent protagonist: Ryley was abandoned from infancy and was brought up in a very strict orphanage where talking was practically prohibited. A fire happened one night that caused the place to burn considerably. And ultimately shut down the institution. Ryley escaped and disappeared about the time of the fire. Some believed he had died. But not before long, Ryley was living off food scraps in the sewer, or in trash cans. Then he became a beneficiary of the Alterra Alms program, which would take homeless and unskilled persons to have a place they could rest and receive training for their new speciality. Ryley probably thought it was a lucky break, and did not know Alterra were just using him for free labor. In time, he showed himself to be remarkably good at repairing and maintenance work. Especially at repairing simpler systems like the Vending Machine or the Coffee Machine. When the Aurora was launched and became Alterra’s new flag star-ship, they saw fit to promote Ryley to Chief Non-Essential Systems Maintenance Man. Although a lower-ranking job, he was the best in his field and he likely had a team of 3 or 4 others. He is cool in almost every situation he is approached with. He may also have received some form of brain implants like Bart Torgal was, as both of these could hear the Sea Emperor through thought. (Bart’s visions when he was sick with the Kharaa might actually have been the Sea Emperor trying to contact him. I don’t think hallucinations are a guaranteed symptom of Kharaa, as the Architects make no mention of it).
My headcannon is that alterra made Riley an offer he could work with alterra research crew that would return to 4546-B as their sort of guide after all Riley has the most actual experience with the planet and may be able to provide information that could help the research team.
I like to think that someone crash lands on a different planet and their PDA tells them: “Ryley Robinson became marooned for 201 days on the ocean planet 4546B. He survived by eating Peepers, Lantern Fruit and Bladder fish. All while fending of Reaper Leviathans and Crabsquids and building his own escape rocket. If the can do all that you can survive another day.”
I wonder if Riley will play any role in the Below Zero DLC. As it takes place after the original story. Seeing as he was the only Aurora survivor, is the only person who knows anything about planet, and basically saved the planet from extinction. I'd imagine he'd at least be a mission consultant. I didn't see any mention of him in the recently released early access of Below Zero, but seeing as we hear the Emperor's final words to him at the start of the DLC, we can at least expect a reference or a cameo.
i discovered that if you fling the camera drone into the moonpool, and roll it into a hallway it can fly around the base like its water, and see rileys body really up close.
The fact that 1 man can build so much (from a knife to a rocket!) And even find a cure. imagine a group of Alterra staff working together, they would have a full working city built within a week. Makes you wonder why they didn't scan the Portals and rebuild them on top of plarforms away from the dangerous creatures. They could very easily build a fleet of Cyclops and Torpedo Seamoths and gone down built and researched everything and dealt with any dangers with their firepower.
Uhm, I guess it's possible, I don't remember them ever mentioning the nation of origin for the Aurora or any of the crew but may have just missed it :)
But i might have jumped to a conclusion. The aroura had an emissary on board and the character looks like he is of Eastern Asian origns so naturally I mixed it up.
Imagine being a lone survivor crashed onto an alien planet and once you’ve cured the whole planet you escape only to learn that everything you’ve done has put you into trillions of dollars in debt
"Nonessential Systems Maintainence Chief" basically means he's responsible for all non-mission-critical equipment on board the Aurora. Things like doors, snack machines, and toilets. Riley is basically a Plumber/Janitor.
Hey Bacon I just replayed Amnesia Machine for Pigs and I realized a pretty important aspect of it that I am confused about. Why did Mandus have to tear his own heart out? And did time reset or did the pigs just vanish? London seemed to not look in fire afterwards which made it seem like it never even happened. Also in your last stream you mentioned other games you could play. Well there is a game on PC and on IOS called The Silent Age. It is a suspense, point and click, problem solver game with a pretty good story. Highly suggest and it won’t take you awhile.
Well in regards to Machine for Pigs, I'm not exactly sure (been a while since I played that game) but a lot of it was meant to be metaphorical and symbolic, so it might not have actually been him ''tearing his heart out''. Also thanks for the Silent Age suggestion, I'll make sure to check it out :)
If you use a scanner room cameras and go through the moon pool as long as you're still under water you can look at the main character and fly around inside your base
player character can be seen ingame by using free camera command, but is rendered headless.. and i also think the girl from Below Zero is not Aurora staff. She was sent to 45456B independently of Aurora. To research another .. well 'edit/edit' base of operation. Is it a spoiler at this time? It's public on Trello or what's it called..

Seriously? Simon Chilinski voice acted the main character? Didint Simon Chilinski make all of the music in the game
Ikr :) talk about being a hard worker...
I mean... It must have taken him such a long time to do allll of the main character lines.
Cmon that guy diserves credit for those sick tunes

@@karabartley oh
I don't know for sure (might be a mandela effect) but I remember the PDA announcing something about either A) Riley's favorite sport being swimming. Or B) Riley excelling at swimming.
Yeah because he’s swimming a lot in the game :)
Yeah I don't think his job was very important either :) ....but good point about the animations!
Oh I totally agree - the only problem with that imo is that most (if not all) nearby courthouses would be private and owned by Alterra :)
In Subnautica you (Riley Robinson) find blueprints to ion batteries/power cells in one of the precursor bases. And since they are way better than normal power cells (and assuming he still has said blueprints) maybe he could be given a promotion of some kind.
Perhaps you're right :) it would certainly make sense from Alterra's perspective!
Has anyone tried to put a window on the scanner room and use the camera to see the main character? It's pretty cool
Yep :) definitely one way to do it!
The main character is the planet itself
I like the way you described it :)
4:32 or the fact he can literally withstand a depth of 8000 meters and still being able to do everything he would be able to at a depth of 10
Future humans must be hella resilient :D
"hey Riley! We thought you were dead but you're alive! Now we got someone to give credits"
"Wait what I did a Craig McGill move and I got hit by debt"
Next up we need him to team up with Craig :)
The PDA also notes that “swimming was your favorite activity.” Which I thought might be worth mentioning.
Fair :) probably because you swim a lot in the game.
Riley basically is the head of the janitorial department.
Perhaps yep :)
Ryley is my favorite character. Gonna miss him.
Yeah he's awesome :)
Fun fact : Simon Chlynski actually creates the famous theme of Subnautica
True :) good fact!
"N RACTOR E" best thumbnail award 2018
Dammit :D I just tried to replicate the logo color scheme....
Riley is a janitor who saved an entire planet and some seamoth chompy bois
Indeed he is :)
0:13 me puts window in scanner room uses camera to see myself
That's the big-brain play :)
Video about the main character:
Blighter and cuddlefish: allow us to introduce ourselves
Haha yeah they sneaked into the thumbnail :)
He’s a janitor that cleaned the mess Al-An and Alterra made on 4546B, so yeah it’s pretty accurate.
Haha yep exactly ;)
My headcannon is that alterra made Riley an offer he could work with alterra research crew that would return to 4546-B as their sort of guide after all Riley has the most actual experience with the planet and may be able to provide information that could help the research team.
Love that idea :) He’d be the perfect choice!
Ryley: Can destroy literal rocks by shaxking his fingers while holding a seaglide
The lifepod chair control thing: doesn't break in one hard punch
Haha fair :) Ryley's levels of strength are quite extraordinary!
Those rocks were probably a bit weak.
If he trained a bit more, he could probably start playing Minecraft irl
I like to think that someone crash lands on a different planet and their PDA tells them:
“Ryley Robinson became marooned for 201 days on the ocean planet 4546B. He survived by eating Peepers, Lantern Fruit and Bladder fish. All while fending of Reaper Leviathans and Crabsquids and building his own escape rocket. If the can do all that you can survive another day.”
Haha I would love that :)
I'd imagine he probably would be at least a consultant of some sort....maybe we'll learn more as they release more of the story :)
i discovered that if you fling the camera drone into the moonpool, and roll it into a hallway it can fly around the base like its water, and see rileys body really up close.
Yep you’re right! :)
@@TheLastBacon thanks!
After I found out I was in debt I decided I’m staying on subnautica plant and left the gun on if they come for me
A fully understandable decision :)
I was like this is my planet now boi
The fact that 1 man can build so much (from a knife to a rocket!) And even find a cure. imagine a group of Alterra staff working together, they would have a full working city built within a week. Makes you wonder why they didn't scan the Portals and rebuild them on top of plarforms away from the dangerous creatures. They could very easily build a fleet of Cyclops and Torpedo Seamoths and gone down built and researched everything and dealt with any dangers with their firepower.
Great question :) ....no clue tbh.
I wonder if he was able to pay the company off with all the data on his PDA involving alien tech and the dagsai mission
Hopefully :)
I'm guessing the DLC character will be marguerite. She was depicted as a bad ass.
She won't
she stabbed a fuckin reaper
I mean, she died on the planet already so nope
And she’s got a nice ass from the concept art lol
*wtf brüh nine year old here what's going on here*
i love how more of the thumbnail is taken up by cuddlefish pictures than actual main character pictures
hi bacon if youre reading this i hope you have a good day
We all know the cuddlefish is the main character :D
@@TheLastBacon yes it is
I just watched a video saying the main character is of Mongolian origins.
Uhm, I guess it's possible, I don't remember them ever mentioning the nation of origin for the Aurora or any of the crew but may have just missed it :)
I got it from a different lore video
But i might have jumped to a conclusion. The aroura had an emissary on board and the character looks like he is of Eastern Asian origns so naturally I mixed it up.
Imagine being a lone survivor crashed onto an alien planet and once you’ve cured the whole planet you escape only to learn that everything you’ve done has put you into trillions of dollars in debt
Feels bad :)
@@TheLastBacon truly does like what do you do in that situation
Anybody else gonna realise that the Aurora has like 10000 boosters on the back?
That's some solid thrust :)
"Nonessential Systems Maintainence Chief" basically means he's responsible for all non-mission-critical equipment on board the Aurora. Things like doors, snack machines, and toilets. Riley is basically a Plumber/Janitor.
Yep :) quite the talented janitor!
Toilets non-essential? Clearly those alterra people never needed to take a piss without bathrooms available
Maybe his hairgel was the reason he was a bit up in the ranks as he might have helped on making that invincible hairgel :)
Haha true :) maybe he invented the hairgel.
“About average height”
Ryley: laughs in 5’6”
A little shorter perhaps? :)
Always entertaining videos
Thank you very much :) glad you liked it!
Can’t believe a janitor of all people became a legend
Yep! Never underestimate the janitor! :)
Your battery charger placing is amazing
Haha thank you :)
After the game he best be be up there
Maybe Xenon awarded him a Golden Mop. Here's "Space Janitor 'Roger Wilco": spacequest.fandom.com/wiki/Roger_Wilco
If you use a scanner room cameras and go through the moon pool as long as you're still under water you can look at the main character and fly around inside your base
True! :)
player character can be seen ingame by using free camera command, but is rendered headless.. and i also think the girl from Below Zero is not Aurora staff. She was sent to 45456B independently of Aurora. To research another .. well 'edit/edit' base of operation. Is it a spoiler at this time? It's public on Trello or what's it called..
Oh that's interesting - I don't check their Trello regularly so I don't know any of the background info...
Riley 8+ hours after getting slammed in the head by a busted panel in faulty lifepod he just so happened to be mopping next to and landing in one of the safest biomes of one of the most hostile lands which is just a safe island in an even hostiler planet of fuck-you waking up to a roaring inferno, minor head trauma, and a fire extinguisher at his feet: "Alright, let's get to work"
Just another day at the office :D

Splinter 6662 that’s the guy who made the Soundtrack, guess he also recorded the voice
@-_ Simon is polish name but in polish language its Szymon, they just translate it beacause its not polish game
Who's the woman that seems so famous that her picture is essentially in every open locker ever aboard the Aurora?
I believe originally it was just concept art :)
I dont think Ryley is a janitor, since he has enough training to handle a cyclops by himself, which is usually operated by 3-6 peopke. He might be a lesser engineer, or, like a mechanic or something
Yeah that is definitely curious :) fair point.
I’m from future. One of the female characters in 6:29 is Robin Ayu. She is main character of Subnautica: Below Zero. She talks because she did not suffer minor head trauma from a crash landing.
Dang time travelers :D
you sould be verified by youtube! i dont know why youtube didnt do it yet!
You need over 100k subs to do that I believe :)
Riley Robinson is actually a chad because of the stuff he does in the game
You're not wrong there :D
you can find a picture of a female in the grand reef wreck inside one of the opened lockers
True :) you can actually find several pictures of her around the world.
Most people when looking at thumbnail for video: main character lore

Haha that’s one way to read it :)
You forgot to mention that his favourite thing was swimming
Because thats what it says in one of the things that the pda tells you
Haha I think that's a joke just because you spent the days leading up to that message swimming :)
6:27 that is robin that’s cool they scrap a bunch of ideas but I see they have add a lot of them back just in a different way

I always thought it was his space suit or something keeping him from suffocating
The Aurora: Hey! The cannon on 456B:Hey!
The cannon: Hello there :)
I can hold my breath longer than him (without an air tank)
Well considering he can hold his breath for that long while swimming with all of his tools, that's quite impressive :)
