Good morning from Minnesota! I know the owners at Just Aircraft, I have worked the booth at Oshkosh with them many times, outstanding company and customer support! You can't go wrong with a Highlander!
first off all, he has vortex generators on top of the leading edge of wing. AND People ALWAYS confuse slats with leading edge flaps. He did not add a Slat. Its actually a Fixed leading edge flap. In other words, he added more fixed camber. A Slat is a separate moving flight control that when deployed, produces a "temporary slot" to allow air to pass through. Like on an F-4E.
I saw you filming the interview (I actually walk through frame early on) but didn't know it was you. Cool to come across this now! What a blast Osh and the Ultralight field was.
Watching you in this Bush Plane, kinda reminds me of the original, Wright Brothers experimental trials in the discovery of flight control. Full Flaps at 38 knots makes flying at tree top level a very realistic birds eye experience in flying, “Nap of the Earth,” type flying but then again from your, PNG experience you already know this. Can you imagine going only, 40 to 45 knots over the trees in, PNG? The only thing that I might be concerned about is the sometimes turbulence coming off the Mountain slopes. They can put you on the ground unintentionally fast. Enjoyed this unexpected subject broadcast. Aloha. 🌺🌸🌴❤️🇺🇸
That is a really nice Highlander Gary! Thanks for the flight around the patch. Ryan, this looks like the perfect airplane for you to use for bush flying. Thanks Gary and Ryan, great video.
I ran up 1200 hours in an Aeronca 7AC before giving it up for long distance bike riding, which turned out to actually be more interesting after you've long perfected everything you can do with an Aeronca several times over. If you're actually using flying to help other people, that's another matter, but for yourself it's not a deep hobby.
Had an micro lite license. Lots of fun. Stalled at about 18. The approach is totally different from the conventional so had issues converting back to a 172!
Thank you for another great video. Somehow I don’t think you’ll have trouble flying anything after where you have been flying for years! All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
The Highlander is a good Bush plane...if you have flown a 152 the dash is similar. The plane is light, easy to land and easy take-off. The tail landing takes some practice but you will like it after you get used to it.
Oh Ryan, this was wonderful, brought back memories when I learnt to fly a Cessna 152- a hundred years ago- a different lifetime , it seemed pretty cosy in there,
Never flown in any of the Just aircraft, just an early model Kitfox. Fun plane and miss landing slow. Our Velocity touched down around 65 knots. Also we met Gary at AirVenture this year as well.
Looks like a fun airplane if you don’t want to go anywhere, but I prefer something more practical. I fly a Flight Design CTLSi. Have tundra gear for grass strips. Recently added E-Prop. Cruise at 123 knots at 4.5 gallons of car gas per hour. Have not found a more efficient aircraft.
Nice aircraft for sure. I got the pleasure last year of watching Hal in Lawnmower and all the other STOL guys at Whiteside County last year and it was incredible.
Love this sort of content these days. The older PNG flight videos you’re posting are cool, but somehow I find myself a lot less interested knowing that you’re not there anymore.
Hey Ryan. Got suggestion for you! Get w/ youtuber Trent Palmer and his FREEDOM FOX Either interview him or let him interview you. Hes like the Kit Fox expert. It would be great be great documentarian content. Help you find a plane and accomplish your goal for promotion of your mission. Its a natural match. He is friends with Mike Patey, the Scrappy guy, too Thanks, Bob
It's very funny how Ryan you could change from our usual Kodiak to this Kind of aircrafts I know you were feeling like going back to primary school after university graduation.
Nice little plane. I like watching Steve Henry's videos in his. Of course Steve's is very modified compared to this one. Really enjoy watching these videos especially the landings.
MBP, do you ever come into Nampa? Steve Henry, the king of all Highlanders (and arguably the king of all bush pilots...) is based there. I live next to the field and see the Yee-Ha all the time.
I have a few tips for ya in learning tailwheel "flying".........lots of experience in many taildraggers, both instructing and flying. Including the DC3.....remember this: Airplane in the air all is fair. Airplane on the ground, round and round????????
These planes can fly so slowly without stalling that the risk is really minimized. It’s super sleek, fast planes that can be hazardous because their stall speed can be over 100 mph.
Hi Sir I want build bush plane at home. Please guide me me. Where I can get or buy blueprint or design of bush plane. Because I have not Idia how to build or design bush plane Kit . This is my big wish that I build back country stole plane in my country. Please Guide me . Thanks
Ryan, Sure hope you and your family have a great year back home. You won't need til wheel experience with one of these. ua-cam.com/video/FAGMXgI2vKs/v-deo.html Jim
Ain't NO airplane that's "For Cheap". The kit is $31K. Add radios and paint and probably upholstery and you are in it for $50K. Of course, you were talking Airplane Money. When I was flying and managing my bosses jets, I could talk about a $million like I had it. LOL. Of course, maybe you Missionaries make a few hundred thousand a year !!! LOL

Very cool plane! Thanks Gary!
This was a nice teaser, too. Can't wait to see what you get up to in the future, Ryan!
"That's a little nerve racking"...coming from the guy who lands on the face of cliffs 😂

Interesting angle. The roadie doesn’t have same view though?!
Bearhawk LSA is my favourite.

This next chapter will be exciting to watch. Thanks for your content.
Nice video my friend. Thank you for sharing. *Like4*

yes if you want to travel, not a good choice.....if you want to have fun....excellent choice
Wow. that's like over 31 statute miles per gallon.
Nice aircraft for sure. I got the pleasure last year of watching Hal in Lawnmower and all the other STOL guys at Whiteside County last year and it was incredible.
Mô hình phi cơ của bạn rất tinh tế và ấn tượng lắm, mình rất thích cảm ơn chúc bạn sức khỏe và thành đạt.
Was that a seizure helmet the gentleman was wearing? Brilliant! Cheers mates!!

More to come!
Beautiful man and smart! 👏👏👏
Great video - looking forward to seeing you fly with Backcountry182 sometime!

I was waiting for him to give you the stick.
that plane looks sick with nice landing gear.
Cleetus mcfarland just bought one. Has some interesting videos on it.
It's very funny how Ryan you could change from our usual Kodiak to this Kind of aircrafts I know you were feeling like going back to primary school after university graduation.
yup, flight like i was in a Cessna 152 again, tiny!
Really enjoyed this video. Thank you
🙂Thank you, Ryan.
The Badlands Traveler is my dream bush plane. No slats, or VG's, super low stall, yet cruise at 115mph indicated.
Nice little plane. I like watching Steve Henry's videos in his. Of course Steve's is very modified compared to this one. Really enjoy watching these videos especially the landings.
Be cool to see you hook up with Trent Palmer and check out his Kit Fox. Very cool little plane!
that would be cool. He's a hard one to get a hold of though
You should get a Zenith - like a squished Caravan. HA!
Lovely video!
going to be a shock going slow and low but hopefully this Bush Plane is Fun
Nice Fly WOW 🤠👍
If he's complaining that Ryan is making the plane heavier then he wouldn't even get off the ground with me in it
Damm I love a few hours flying with you, your a great inspiration 🇦🇺
Wow,so cool😎 !👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
quite a fun airplane! thanks for sharing !!!
You will have over 100 grand in a Highlander before it is finished. That is not cheap at all.
Nice very nice...................
Thanks!
Thanks Sandy! I appreciate the support
I had 172c with flap gap seals, half tanks and just me 80kg, It stalled off the clock I guessed about 29 to31kts. Was very stable at 40kts
I’d like to see how these stol pilots in the usa would go in the high density altitude of Papua at MAUW
Just Aircraft are purpose built for bush flying
Kitfox can be modified heavily to bush fly such as Trent Palmers.
Buy one!
MBP, do you ever come into Nampa? Steve Henry, the king of all Highlanders (and arguably the king of all bush pilots...) is based there. I live next to the field and see the Yee-Ha all the time.
pilot forgot about extra weight on takeoff. was trying to show the marginal takeoff and had to scramble for that full throttle.
Shopping!
I have a few tips for ya in learning tailwheel "flying".........lots of experience in many taildraggers, both instructing and flying. Including the
DC3.....remember this: Airplane in the air all is fair. Airplane on the ground, round and round????????
Fly with @Trent Palmer please!
Maybe someday
Looks like a lot more landing opportunities with this. Are you going back to New Guinea?
Why does no one who flys these planes wear a parachute? Is it to low to the ground or do they just figure they are dead anyway if the motor quits?
These planes can fly so slowly without stalling that the risk is really minimized. It’s super sleek, fast planes that can be hazardous because their stall speed can be over 100 mph.
Did you say cheap? Maybe you can sort one out for me! 🤣
You can get them from $70-100k.....airplane cheap
@@MissionaryBushPilot we have different definitions of cheap.
Know the WORST kind of passenger? Another crewmember, especially pilot…lol Ex USAF C-130 loadmaster here. 😎
New sub! Liked ✌️😉🤩🤭
Do you have a tail wheel endorsement? Does this have a 912 engine?
Maybe consider the Savana 701 with balloon tyres, v popular here. Thanks for the excellent png vids
Let’s probably like a KTM 300 versus your adventure bike.?
probably more like a YZ125 😁
Nice endeavor
Can u come fly in Sierra Leone/west Africa?
I've been out of commission for awhile, last I seen you was in the bush working, did you retire?
......nice.......why you did not try it ?
It was a short flight
Gary should of let you take control for a bit ???
How much for that kind of plane ?
Which Rotax did this have?
What is ballpark insurance with low hours on this aircraft?
So will you go back to PNG or are you on to something bigger.
Plan is to go back...but to be determined
He didn’t let ya fly? Even just around?

Well, it's side by side, not tandem seating.....
I missed the pricing.
Nothing cheap about flying😏
Unfortunately

Ryan, Sure hope you and your family have a great year back home. You won't need til wheel experience with one of these. ua-cam.com/video/FAGMXgI2vKs/v-deo.html
