yeah, same here. i've seen the performance a billion times, but never this. thanks so much for posting. and if there is a longer version, please share. :-)
There were actually rumours around the time that there might of been something happening between the two. I remember reading stories from fans and journalists saying Bjork used to gush about Polly a lot. So, make of that what you will. ;)
@dylanpartyon When Scandinavians speak English language they have a natural 'posh English accent'. Bjork's accent has got some London in it. I can imagine her saying "innit" "know what I mean" :D But the posh sound comes from the Scandinavian. Believe it or not.
@useless987 I always consider Iceland as "Scandinavian". My Norwegian friend has a strange 'English' accent mixed with Norwegian... so much so that I asked her when we first met, "how long did you live in England for?"... to which she replied "never". Anyway, yeah - I think of Iceland as Scandinavian because it's Viking country and was settled by Norwegians. I'm seeing Bjork and PJ this weekend at the BESTIVAL! Looking forward to that!
This vid os obv just an edit of bjork's soundbites, I would like to hear polly's stuff too Bjork is always very down to earth in interviews, I love the stuff she says. You can tell she was maybe a bit peeevd though
@ABisopht her accent's the same as it always is. why do people keep commenting on that? it has a little brittish slant to it, but every icelandic accent i've ever heard does.
@aeropilot It's a bit of both, the irish monks went back to Ireland and the first sizeable permanent population was norwegians fleeing Norway for various reasons. It has been speculated that most of the Celtic ancentry comes from slaves which were taken on viking raids in Ireland (as more of Celtic genes are found in women than men and it was documented that many women were taken forcefully from the British Isles as future wifes) but it's not black and wihite.
For those ignorant scandinavians consider Norway, Sweden and Denmark as scandinavia. Scandanavia, Iceland and Finland are referred to as the nordic countries.
not sexy, but talented. If you'll look back in the days you'll notice that noone called a musician sexy for expressing how much one appreciate his or her work; only the music label bosses started with that awkward habit. And to go back to the actual topic: I'm so glad that there are musicians like Bjork and PJ Harvey; one really should know their stuff, they are an enrichment for all of us. True, fuckin' creative and emotional music - what more could one ask for ?
to Phoeniximmortall77, though I would agree that the music community will generally respect Mercury Prizes more than Brit and similar awards, I still don't agree that it's 'the only award worth it's salt'. I think that's pretentious - this is an attempt to rank music. Music is subjective, it's an art form! Take awards as compliments, not as a measure of how good the music actually is. So sure, Brits nowadays only take into account musicians on huge record labels and who get massive airplay. But the Mercury's in my view are only slightly better in that they take into account some more musicians. They still don't take into account all British music (eg. metal). They also always have a token jazz artist, a token indie band or two, token mainstream singer/rapper etc. This isn't just taking into account the quality of the music - that's meeting quotas. And they are still just based on a bunch of opinions - even if they are respected musicians' opinions. This is music, let's not be so pretentious!
at 0:08 I wondered by a second if they would start to slaping one each other when they arrived to sit, because, there was a misunderstoodment about who would take whose sit, do you notice that? LMAO!
The Mercury Music Prize is the only award worth its salt as the nominees are carefully chosen by a panel as the best and most original albums of the year; plus the public - thank-goodness - don't get to vote. Otherwise we'd have manufactured kiddie groups like One Direction winning...heaven forbid!
Oh no no no, Icelandic people are genetically Celtic, not Norwegian. The first permanant inhabitants of the island were three Irish monks. Subsequent genetic forensics proves the origin.
her icelandic accent is a pure fake: she lived for five years in london and believe me you don't keep any accent after such a long time. Its actually a very cute accent, I agree but a fake one You can hear her real accent in the british television's interview
This is ridiculous You call this fake while literal a few words later you say you lose your accent over time So it's not fake she just doesn't use it anymore
bjork and pj harvey. oh man. i would love to be in the middle of that. they had the best albums of the mid-90s. they still rock.
the 90's style energy feels so anxious and hectic
Bjorks accent is lovely to listen to.
This was 25 years ago...! I am so old... Where did the time go.
yeah, same here. i've seen the performance a billion times, but never this.
thanks so much for posting. and if there is a longer version, please share. :-)
Wow, I loved when she mentioned my country, Ecuador. She should come and ask us in person, and we would be glad to show her this amazing country
i love her icelandic accent
2 of my most favorite girls/singer songwriters on earth, together at last
thank you
There were actually rumours around the time that there might of been something happening between the two. I remember reading stories from fans and journalists saying Bjork used to gush about Polly a lot. So, make of that what you will. ;)
the way polly looks at bjork too
It rhymes with jerk haha
parece tener 14 años...... amo esa eterna juventud!!!!
DGod id never even seen the performance. Two of the coolest women ever, performing together... how cool
wow, I never knew this existed. Now I'm wondering if there exists a longer version out there somewhere. In any case, Thanks for sharing!
"...It rhymes with jerk" What a great way to end the interview!!!
'bjork, it rhymes with jerk'
ahh, I love her!

Two of my favorite women.

But PJ Harvey won the Mercury Award two times - even today sometimes the right people get the big awards.
argh polly didn't even get a word in!
@0:08 I love how PJ tries to sit right next to Bjork and Bjork keeps moving away
@montecarlostar They're equal. PJ is very shy but also a genius.
beautiful.
How beautiful does Bjork look on this video? So radiant!
Amen.
I agree that they are two of the most talented artists in music today, but if you don't think they are sexy then you are blind my friend ! :)
@McPrfctday she's from Iceland, not Scandinavia. And most Scandinaviasn have an American accent, especially Norwegians.
Imagine the 90's without Bjork and PJ Harvey
I couldn't understand a word of this.
This vid os obv just an edit of bjork's soundbites, I would like to hear polly's stuff too
Bjork is always very down to earth in interviews, I love the stuff she says. You can tell she was maybe a bit peeevd though
@jumeau1 Well, in some interviews she doesn't even have an accent! But if you're tired or something the old accent can "fall" back easier.. :)
yh totally agree but they still do!!!! i mean this is desire and white chalk are totally Polly's best!!
Two beautiful women I must say.
Polly is so cute in this :)
ahhh she's so cool!!
her eyes!
@ABisopht her accent's the same as it always is. why do people keep commenting on that? it has a little brittish slant to it, but every icelandic accent i've ever heard does.

i'd go gay for bjork. she's so beautiful.
This comment predicted the term simp
For those ignorant scandinavians consider Norway, Sweden and Denmark as scandinavia. Scandanavia, Iceland and Finland are referred to as the nordic countries.
Iceland is not Scandinavia geometrically. But Icelandic ppl are Norwegians.
OMG, maybe these are the kinds of questions they asked in the 90s, but they are horrible.
not sexy, but talented. If you'll look back in the days you'll notice that noone called a musician sexy for expressing how much one appreciate his or her work; only the music label bosses started with that awkward habit.

I agree.
at 0:08 I wondered by a second if they would start to slaping one each other when they arrived to sit, because, there was a misunderstoodment about who would take whose sit, do you notice that? LMAO!

Oh no no no, Icelandic people are genetically Celtic, not Norwegian. The first permanant inhabitants of the island were three Irish monks. Subsequent genetic forensics proves the origin.
