One of the most lucid and intelligent rock star interviews I have ever seen, but then, the album is lucid and intelligent too - and it's hard not to get obsessed by it!

Common she's great but...... hyperbole much!!!??? A lot of people say the same about Morrisey I actually in all seriousness just think there are great song writers and we get to enjoy them in all their glorious nuance and diversity. I guess if she is the greatest to you then she is but try not to let that shut your mind to the other amazing poets and artists out there who are equally as gifted in their own very different ways.

When you read the lyrics from the album off the page, it reads like pure poetry. Really enjoyed her writing. Some other lyricists I enjoy are Bob Dylan, Aaron Weiss, and Adam Duritz too et al. But many great, underrated poet/lyricists in the music industry.

I don´t know the english expression but in Sweden we say something like "being too smart for ones best" and I think that applies to sweet, sweet Polly Jean.

Cool woman. Strangely she's originally from Bridport (only 20 mins away from me). She was born in the same year as me and exactly 1 month older. She also studied visual arts and I did too. I adore her ''On Battleship Hill'' song.

In his song "West Country Girl", Nick Cave writes about Polly "her accent, which I'm told is broad...". This is the first time, I think, that I've heard PJ speak and she certainly doesn't have a "broad" accent, does she? Her Dorset accent comes out slightly when she uses words with R in them but otherwise it just seems like a generic, middle class Southern England/Home Counties accent, doesn't it?
Did she used to have a much stronger accent, or something? Or is our Nick just taking the piss?

@happysappy21 You wrote better than i did, exactly, her thing is her brilliant intellect and personality, why then have such a superficial thing. Well, back to the studies. And my dream of a real fireplace.

Haven't yet listened to England Shake album. i think what she is saying about the words (for me) is all wrong. Why? Because songs that work bubble up from inside, from raw emotions. You don't write a song, you capture it when channelling. Like she did in prior albums. And just to be clear, she's a hero to me. Not demeaning her. She's a legend. I just think she needs to learn how to channel again. It's a beautiful sounding song - cause she's singing it, but it doesn't actually do much for me. I don't get too jazzed by it, but it is super catchy - something you'll find yourself singing to. I just don't really connect with it.

For you foreign types who are ignorant about British and Irish accents (you have NO excuse! Surely your German/Aussie/Japanese/Mozambique/etc schools were built to teach you about UK? Even classes like Science (which Britain invented), Geography (we invented that too) and your language classes (Britain did, after all, invent such languages as Spanish, French and Cantonese) should be AngloCentric, "The Science of the British Isles" etc), see a video of Worzel Gummidge to hear West Country accent.
