to Phoeniximmortall77, though I would agree that the music community will generally respect Mercury Prizes more than Brit and similar awards, I still don't agree that it's 'the only award worth it's salt'. I think that's pretentious - this is an attempt to rank music. Music is subjective, it's an art form! Take awards as compliments, not as a measure of how good the music actually is. So sure, Brits nowadays only take into account musicians on huge record labels and who get massive airplay. But the Mercury's in my view are only slightly better in that they take into account some more musicians. They still don't take into account all British music (eg. metal). They also always have a token jazz artist, a token indie band or two, token mainstream singer/rapper etc. This isn't just taking into account the quality of the music - that's meeting quotas. And they are still just based on a bunch of opinions - even if they are respected musicians' opinions. This is music, let's not be so pretentious!

English is not my first lenguage but i just feld like comenting on something up loud because of some of your coments, i don t understand why you guys have to come here or on any other video talking about other artist that has nothing to do with Björk! You guys talk about Madonna like she was a reference or a role model! Keep in mind that with Bedtime story BK did it as a favour to Nellee hooper not to madonna!!I have been a music follower since 1988 now, and as much as i have enjoyed a few Madonna songs along the years i have never had much respect for her as an artist. I don t consider her to have that much talent other than being a showbiz beast, same as for lad g. On the other hand i recently heard a lad g radio interview and let me tell you that she has earned my respect! I won t listen to her music on propose but as a person i have much more respect for lady g. She gets credit for not being twofaced and being brutally honest without any attitud. Having said that you guys should deeg deeper and beyond what s ofered to you through the publicity on mainstream media becuase there are tons of very intresting artist and you r missing their music out.
