What these goalies need to learn is to come out and challenge the shooter and/or play more upright. They are playing a style used by professionals that they see on TV and they have to cover a (6'x4') regulation size net. This is a MAJOR disadvantage for these kid goalies. Those pros are BIG guys who's upper bodies can cover quite a bit of the net when they drop to their knees. Example; Watch at 4:40 thru 4:43 . Look how tiny that goalie is when prone. If he stays more upright, he (most likely) stops that shot. Now watch the goalie (#89) at 4:49 thru 4:51. He comes out to challenge the shooter, stays upright, cuts down ALL the angles and stops the shot. Watch him do this again and again throughout the remainder of the video. He gets beat a few times but he wins the event.

I do agree, but the reason they do that is to be closer to the ground, so they can slam their knee’s down on the ice to butterfly. But you are right
