    I really liked this format of showing both an amateur who is dealing with a problem and a professional illustrating fixes.

      Actually, I would really like to see more of what everyone who follows Amelia is working on. I really liked this feedback video, maybe we could do more of this!! I know i sure would find it valuable to get some feedback on my training and I always find it valuable watching others work through challenges

    I just discovered your channel today & I'm already learning so much! I do all of my training by myself in between the rare lessons I have & I can't wait to ride once the north-eastern storms clear up!

    You should do a video on how to canter in a half seat! We are Learning how to canter in a half seat so that we can learn how to jump later this summer. I always feel like I’m leaning to far back are too far forward I can’t find the balance sweet spot yet

    Love this!!! I am looking again all your videos on Leg Yield as struggle with it! Also, A member said that i was actually doing a side pass and not a leg yield. I dont know nothing about side pass :) - :( - Any way, as usual, your videos are awesome and have the exact problem you described here. The turn on forehand will help me a lot as a fix and happy i discovered it! Byron and I Thank you so so much!!! Especially my Lord Byron as mom will do what needed :) :) :)

      Glad you liked the video! Side pass is more sideways and less forward than a leg yield. Remember that leg yield is both forward and sideways :)

    Hello Amelia. Thank you very much for videos. Can you please make a video on: how to keep the hand while we want to guide and keep the horse on the right or left side while trotting a straight line. Thank you. Please don't forget my request. 🙏

    Thank you for this video. Can you tell how to make a horse more reactive to leg behind the girth to be able to move hind legs like you do this?

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage
      @AmeliaNewcombDressage  3 роки тому +2

      Start with the pressure of the calf, if the horse doesn’t respond, then give a boot with your heel. It also helps sometimes to use a whip to remind the horse to move the inside hind leg.

      That is such a great question and so many riders have this same issue.
      1. With a walking leg yield, take the time to clarify each issue, one at a time.
      The horse needs to know to move away from your inside leg without moving faster nor running through your outside rein. Your task is to slow him or even stop him with your outside rein while keeping a little bend to the inside and ask for him to move away from your inside leg until a good step is taken then praise and repeat. You make this clear to him first so he knows what is expected regarding your inside leg. You use as much of a leg aid that is necessary for effectiveness and change to as little that is necessary. Please note that when a horse is pushing against the bit (running through the bridle) it is blocking it's own forward and/or lateral movement. He needs to give in on the Outside Rein! This flexion (submission) will unblock him and allow you to keep him straight and keep communicating going on regarding moving him away from your inside leg. Fix these things 1 at a time and let him know with praise (voice and a pat with your inside hand) each step that is correct.
      Note on timing: ask with your inside leg when his inside shoulder comes back once he is crystal clear about moving away from your leg.
      The trot should not be a problem IF handled the same as the walk. Do not allow him to brace on the outside rein nor continue the movement if he is doing that. The more incorrect steps taken the more that are taught to be that way. Clarify these separate issues one at a time. No speeding up, no leaning on the outside rein and letting his body fall out, and yes responding to your leg aid. 3 problems that are each separate to fix so there is clarity between you and your horse. If you do rising trot it is helpful to rise on the inside diagonal so when you sit and use your inside leg your rhythmic timing to influence his inside hind is exacting. If you sit just ask with your inside leg when his inside shoulder comes back and keep the rhythm until you no longer ask for a leg yield. This separation of clarity of training for these 3 PROBLEMS in 1 leg yield will help you and your horse with so much more that you choose to do.
      Regarding rhythm, you choose it and do not let your horse change it. You send him forward or back him off any running through the bridle while keeping his forward, as necessary, if he starts going at variable speeds and /or variable pressure on his bit. Keep your rhythm . Forward is your friend . Bracing or being dragged around by a subcategory of lack of submission is not. You want conversational contact and not the feeling of pulling from your horse. All this responsibility is yours. Your horse is your strong partner; you are his teacher and the brains of the whole operation. Teach clearly and be patiently strict, and CONSISTENT.
      Ask often, demand little, and reward in a timely fashon.

    How should I be holding my reins? If I'm on my right rein and want to move to my left...should the inside (right) rein be tighter and the outside rein (left) be looser...or other way round...hope that made sense
