    Important DISTINCTION and very helpful the physics of horse's desire to canter with haunches inwards to lessen work on haunches! Brava AMELIA encore!

    perfect description, I was having trouble understanding it how my teacher was explaining it- this exercise really helps my quarter horse collect better in the canter- he loves to lean on the forehand

    Clear, useful as always. You will see much improvement if keep practicing both shoulder fore n shoulder-In in a right way.

    Thanks Amelia! I love this video, it’s such a good explanation. The only question I have is, as a less experienced rider, what cues- visual or what am I feeling- let me know that I’m riding these correctly? Eg how do I know I’m not taking the shoulder too far off the rail, or how do I know I’m not over-bending? What do I see, what do I feel? Thanks again!

    This is a really helpful video! Thank you for sharing! Do you find that shoulder in is easier in sitting trot?

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage
      @AmeliaNewcombDressage  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, definitely. It is easier to feel where the horse is and what their back is doing in sitting trot.

    Hi Amelia, I love your lessons!! One question: do you never feel anxious or afraid, when you ride??? You always seem so relaxed! I would really like to ride some lessons with you!! Thank you for your explanations, you make everything look so simple 😊

    Excellent explanation! Thank you. To clarify the active leg is the inside leg and the outside leg is a guarding leg to keep the bend, correct?

    Hi Amelia
    Thank you so much for your videos!! I was wondering if when doing the shoulder fore, can you feel a difference thru your seat when you have the horse straight and haunches corrected?

    I perfectly understand Shoulder-in vs Shoulder-Fore now with your video...thank you! However, I am currently learning Hunt Seat but using your courses as a guide for future riding with my horse (and I feel many aspects still pertain to good riding practices and I love your methodology). My trainer always has me turning the head towards the fence during take off and the canter then keeping it there. Can you explain why that is?

    • @cath7669
      @cath7669 3 роки тому +2

      In very basic terms the two most common ways riders are taught to pick up the canter are 1) turn the horses head outward (toward the fence) and cue with outside leg, or 2) bend horse slightly to the inside around the riders inside leg and cue with the outside leg. The first method unbalances the horse forcing them onto their inside shoulder causing them to 'fall' into the canter on the correct lead. The second method correctly balances the horse which allows him to use his outside hind leg to push off the ground to initiate the canter and bring their inside hind leg forward on the correct lead. Your instructor is teaching you the first method which is still common among Hunter/Jumper riders, but is not correct and will hinder your and your horses further development on both the flat and over fences. I learned the same way as a young rider and eventually had to unlearn it, along with lots of other bad habits.

    Still struggling with knowing where the hind legs are. How do you feel that? Is it just memorizing how the legs land in the gaits and then trying to pair that with movement? Or....?

    what benefits to the horse are being ridden behind the vertical? curious

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage
      @AmeliaNewcombDressage  10 місяців тому

      The goal is to always have your horse in front of the vertical and helping them using their body correctly.
