Sounding pirate-y has way more to do with tempo than with which scale you're using - if you want to sound like a pirate, play in 6/8 or 12/8 and "swing" the tempo a little.

So basically.... learn the major scale. Great.. how insightful... this teaches next to nothing about playing piratey sounding music. Wasting our time here. And I'm not just being narky for the sake of it. I regularly leave positive feedback for good teaching. This genuinely just feels like an ad for your paid service dressed up as genuine content

Just learn aeolian mode and it works for every mode. It's that simple. Just a different position on the route note. C major is A aeolian, C Lydian is E aeolian, C mixolydian is D aeolian. It's so easy. Don't learn major scales just learn minor aeolian. Perfect box to remember.

Hi man, first of all, good job about your guitar skills !! they're truly amazing ! your vids are verry great too !
So I've been playing the guitar for several years and I've played mostly on an acoustic (I prefer how it sound), I did get myself an electric and even though I like the sound I get from it, I'm not sure I'm using the tone button very well (I don't truly understand what it does to the sound even though I do hear a tiny difference) I have two buttons (more like "roulette") on my guitar and one on my amp... Can you light my candle ?

the panda bear Hi, this depends on what you set out to achieve on the guitar. some players stick with rhythm and dont venture out into using scales, whereas some players progress into using scales in their music. my advice would be that if youre not sure, to try both, because youll soon find out which is easiest for you to start on. try learning some songs you like if youre brand new to guitar, it helps to familiarise you with the instrument a bit better and can help you understand where you need to go with your music better. a final note; its all up to you. at the end of the day, it is only you who can choose what it is you wish to do with the instrument and your music as a whole, so theres no strict rules to what you should be or shouldnt be learning. i hope this helps and good luck learning on your guitar journey!

People, there are 7 positions for the Major scale... The "three notes per string" scale-concept is the outcome of some of these positions combined.
You should tell these kind of things to the people as a guitar teacher Tyler.
Greetings from Greece and cheers for mr. Govan!

Matthew Sawicki Hi, i know im not tyler, but just incase you dont get a reply, i personally would say this is an irrelevant factor in guitar playing. just search on youtube for kids playing guitar and youll soon see they can get by just fine considering their ability, but on the flip side of that, jimi hendrix had huge hands and fingers and still managed to play the guitar perfectly. id advise trying out whats comfortable for you to unlock the best player you can be, by which i mean trying guitars with wide necks or thicker gauge strings, but besides what is personally comfortable for you, there are no set in stone negatives for being large handed. i hope this helps, all the best!
