- While hiking with Kevin Nealon, comedian/actor Bob Odenkirk muses about pocket pool, dunking cookies, journaling, helicopter parenting, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and his ineffective SNL writing days.
I worked on Better Call Saul as a set dresser. Honestly, it was one of the best productions I've ever had the pleasure of working on. The people and cast were truly amazing. Props to you, Kevin and Bob for taking the time to share with us your hike and experiences.
That's so cool!
The set dresser is the individual who creates a “lived-in” quality for every scene by preparing, picking up, and delivering an assortment of props, decor items, materials and furniture for the set, all in accordance with the visions of the production designer and set decorator.
Do you have a budget to play with and how much? Or you have to make do what's on the studio plot?
@@georgepagotelis I can't give you the budget information as its proprietary, but to answer your other question... that is predetermined by coordination between the production designer, decorator, and line producer.

I love Bob. He's not all full of himself, grounded, humble and much better than he gives himself credit for.
And you know this how? Or he seems this way? You only like performers who are humble, or appear to be? Hmm. (Maybe he is humble, but I don’t know that he is. I guess I hope he is.)

This is such a great opportunity for people to see what a down to earth, Midwestern guy Bob Odenkirk is. He's always been known by his peers to be one of the most hard working in the business, and generous when it comes to helping others out. Too many people assume if you're part of Hollywood you're an elite, out of touch asshole, but there are some like Odenkirk who are just regular people doing what they love to do and have a talent for. It takes a lot of courage and hard work to do that when it's anything creative, whether it's acting, writing, visual arts... it's a big gamble. But imagine how boring the world would be without people like Bob and Kevin.

I had the honour of acting with Bob on Fargo Season One. We both played Bemidji police, so we got to work together for the duration of the season. He is a wonderful, and very down-to-Earth guy. I would work with him again any time.

I live in Utah and there are some amazing hikes. I have found that, when hiking with others, there something about the activity that strips away so many artificial layers and you have great conversations. It is so honest. Bob O. was being honest and I appreciated that. He showed some vulnerability, humor, and honesty...great video!

Great episode Kevin. Bob's is one I wish was longer or even a Part II video. Love hearing stories about the "old days" (you know, back in the 1900's) of SNL, comedy clubs, departed greats like Farley, etc.
I really didn't want this one to end.
UA-cam is full of interviews of Farley's co-stars telling stories about him. Check out Spade or Sandler give both warm and mean reviews of their times with him ^^
I've discovered Bob in Curb Your Enthusiasm's Porno Gil episode. So hilarious!! Since then, I love watching him act!

I've always liked Odenkirk since I saw him on Ben Stiller Show (TJ O'Pootertoot's), very creative guy..
I knew I wasn't out of my mind. TJ O'Pootertoot"s was a skit on "The Ben Stiller Show". Nightmarish, but funny.
Did a great Charles Manson on that show.

Odenkirk has been in four of the best shows of the 21st Century. Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Fargo and Curb Your Enthusiasm. What a career! Oh, yeah, he was also in that little show Mr. Show on HBO and the Netflix reboot. Yeah. What a career.
I never thought I’d love Bob more than I did in Mr Show but he continues to be ever more brilliant.

Bob has never came off as a jerk. This just shows how down to earth he is. A lot of people are full of themselves with being on a few hit shows. Loved him on Breaking Bad, couldn't wait for Better call Saul. Good guy.
Mr. show is funnier than SNL ever was.
Its nice to watch 18 minute of Bob Odenkerk rather than playing some 3-5 munute video from Jimmy Fallon Show or Conan.. Bob's terrific. And honestly i havent watched him in comedy and to me him doing drama seems like hes been doing it forever... Damn hes doing amazing in breaking bad and better call saul...

Holy moly! I just saw this & realised we met you on this hike. We were the couple from New Zealand & it was so nice of you to stop & take our photo in front of the Griffith Observatory. Footnote: That hike was not by choice. There was a movie set at the observatory that day so we had to hike from the carpark. But I am glad we did because the view was amazing & meeting you & Bob was a wonderful surprise!
I correctly guessed "Saul Goodman" on Instagram and Nealon has yet to acknowledge me with free tickets to his Atlanta show....👀....

Bob Odenkirk is incredible in this if you haven't seen it before I highly recommend it .The writing is so good ,just when you think you know what is going on they throw a total curve ball at you and blow your mind . I've been a fan of Bob Odenkirk's work for a while now. Since I first saw Mr Show, really, but then I learned through this that he helped create Matt Foley for Chris Farley? Wow. Guess I've been a fan Bob's work for longer than I knew!

Greatest episode with the greatest guy. Bob is a living legend & creative genius. Love how he has never forgotten his roots & how he was so brave to leave a giant of a show like SNL, especially being a comedy guy, because he wanted to do his own thing. Props to you Odenkirk.

Bob is by far THE most in-shape guest i've seen. Virtually no gasping.
He's gone on hiking trips in several countries. He did a really intense 2 week one in Spain a couple of years ago. Does it a lot when he's shooting BCS in Albuquerque, too.
Also, at this time, he was in the middle of his intense training for Nobody.

Better Call Saul is okay. Mr. Show was pure genius. Bob will always be a comedian first to me. Happy for him he’s broke out the way he has, he totally deserves it, but a dramatic actor?? I definitely didn’t see that one coming!! Lol...first time I ever saw Odenkirk was as a cast member on The Ben Stiller Show In 1992. Short lived, but I loved it as an early teen. It’s how he met David Cross as well. Cross was a writer on the show. If any of you reading this haven’t seen Mr. Show, do yourself a favor and look it up on UA-cam. There’s full episodes free here. So many recognizable faces too. Tom Kenny, Jack Black, Mary-Lynn Rajskub, Paul F. Tompkins, all kinds of celebrity guest appearances too.
Best parenting advice I've got yet....
I love Bob and really liked Mr.Show. He was great in BB, but he really shows what a great actor he is in BCS. Especially in the first season, in a lot of the episodes he has A TON of dialogue, and often a ton in one scene. Shows how great he really is. Plus he seems like a great and funny guy in real life.

I first saw Bob as Stevie Grant in The Larry Sanders Show. He's as good in that as he is in everything else he does. I hope he gets a shiny thing for BCS soon.

Kevin Nealon I have been enjoying your shows. To be honest I haven't thought about you or seen you in much since SNL and Adam Sandler movies, however I wanted to let you know a thing. I had a dream and you were in it about 8 months ago for some reason. You were in this town at the end of a coastal road down on the beach at the bottom of a cliff and I went down and talked to you. I woke up the next day thinking it was super weird, because honestly, you are funny and all but I have never really been what you would call 'a fan'. Anywho, within 3 days of this dream your new show popped up on my UA-cam suggested shows and I found it strange. I watched and kept watching and am happy that it has gone from 200 views a show to 7000, haha. Anyway, just thought I would share that.

He's gone hiking in several countries. Loves it. He does it a lot when he's shooting BCS in Albuquerque. Patrick Fabian and Michael Mando often post photos of it on their Instagram pages.

Love Bob Odenkirk. BCS is one of the best shows ever. He was also great on Breaking Bad of course. Love that he's down-to-earth. So many actors become jaded and/or full of themselves.
His attitude has always been that he's just a dad taking the kids to school, picking up groceries, and his job just happens to be in show business. It's all he's ever done, and he's known among his peers for how hardworking he's always been, and how much he's helped others. Good dude.
Bob is for sure in his element in "Better call Saul" and when I saw him in "breaking Bad" it reminded me of Dangerfield in "Natural born Killers",such a contrast of expectations that it gave me chills.
Bill Murray played the lead as a mean mobster in a movie - very well played.
Bob is the most talented actor today. BCS is the best show I've ever seen in my life including Breaking Bad.
Pocket pool and cookie dunking requires a very similar skill-set.
An all-time peak, so far. Odenkirk is pretty great, and a real guy, waiting patiently (not very patiently) for BCS, and hoping it will continue.
On another subject, that left bicep, Kevin, is very Schwarzenegger-esque, which nears the limits of my powers of spelling, but not of observation. The Selfie-Stick Workout, your new book...

I loved Bob's performance as Greg the night security guy in the US series of "No Activity". Also W/Bob and David on Netflix was amazing! It seems crazy that it only went for 4 episodes.

Jokes aside, that was a Better Call Saul reference. - I am so happy for him, hearing his story about his goal to be a performer years ago and finally fullfilled his wish! Very inspirational!

Bob seems like a good, down to earth guy. He also must be in great shape - busting down the trail, talking easily, not out of breath. Some guests of your hikes I worry about but not this one. :-)
Tim Long Odenkirk is a very avid hiker. Last spring he did a serious two week trek in Spain.
I’d like to think that played a part in his surviving his massive heart attack.
The world is a better place for his being here. ❤

These are great. They use the tactic to get people to open up that psychologists recommend for checking in with your kids who might seem distant. With performers and comedians: one, they are not sitting in the hotseat, under lights or in front of a live audience, and two, they actually forget about the eye of the camera. They are occupied with walking the terrain and having a friendly chat with nice guy Kevin. (Sometimes Kevin has to interject humor to remind them not to go too deep.) This is a great way to gain insight into inscrutable people like Bob Odenkirk.
I did the treadmill during this hike it was fun but I need to set the belt in reverse next time so I can it can seem like I am the camera man POV style
That was great! I am happy to see him so grounded. I love his work. I am proud of him for overcoming the distance from his father when he was young. My dad's dad (my gpa) was a real a**hole who beat his kids and ignored them after my grandma died (they were young). He is the opposite. Best dad ever and that is not easy to make the effort to break the cycle.

Love the whole idea of a hike (sometimes a breathless hike), chatting with your buddy.....such a refreshing idea! I love Bob! Didn’t know much about his personal life......but his relationship (or lack thereof) with his dad really struck a chord with me.....and I am so happy that he was a copter dad for as long as he could get away it! He’s right! The kid(s) will always know they are loved and cared for.......and make better choices because of that! Keep ‘em coming, Kevin!
