This is wonderful seeing Africa still holding on to their traditions, and it's also sad that this culture is dying, Africa we need to know ourselves and stand with our culture because that's who we are, we are not Chinese nor European nor Americans we are Africans wonderfully created by God.
You are an insane person praising a seven century old insane people. Is this they way you distinguish Africans from other peoples? By their lack of medicines, doctors, healthy foods? By their dependence on tourism? You are indeed living in your imagination.
So it is great for Africa to hold on to its traditions, but if Europe wants to do it, they are white supremacists or racists. The double standards in the world is jaw dropping
That is so Cool 😎 thank you
They are an attractive people. It's cool to see how people live in different cultures. Thanks for sharing.

SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SOCIETY OF PEOPLE. PERHAPS I WILL GO TO VISIT AND CHILL WITH THEM IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
I’m African American and I have Malian dna from the mandinka and Bambara peoples the land of my ancestors love from America 🇺🇸
We all do to some degree. Not all from dogon tribes though.
Nice I’m from there . I live in Arizona
Thanks!
It is Honourable for keeping Ancient traditions my people
Excellent video and great narration. The West should return the cultural articles to the Dogon People.
The world was created very beautifully. And humans destroyed it.. With war and colonialism... This valley is truly unique and extraordinary.. A house that is like a nest, really very enchanting...❤❤❤
Seems like the women didn't have to worry about being taken as slaves, they were already slaves..........in this particular patriarchal society.
So true!😢

Working together.
Did you not hear the narrator said the men are farmers but there is a drought... The men built the houses, farm, raise live stock, create art works to sell to tourist, work outside the community, protect the village etc.... this is no place for your feminismy
That's a good idea with the museum, however Germany needs to return other African artifacts it has stolen.
😂
Facts. There's loads of those in Europe and elsewhere
Or loan them money on the artifacts
It would be wonderful to experience life with them, which has been original from day one
Did their ancestors have cell phones?
That's what I expect from a geography video. Hope you make more videos 🥰
Hey, I'm the one that offered to help you when you had made this same appeal under other videos. Those questions I asked even others said were valid questions and if you were in need that badly they said anyone would answer those in return for help. Others warned me not to give because this is a new despicable type of scam. If you're still behind three months rent I'm glad you either found a way to pay for some of your back rent leaving you still three months behind, or your landlord forgave you some months rent. And as i told you before, your landlord still has to pay his mortgage and taxes whether you pay or not. Please respond this time if this isn't a scam.
Wtf is this?
@@MariaPereira-qc4px the person has had a story that they and their family are stuck in the Gaza area and are days away from starvation no money no food and three months behind on rent and the neighbors got the landlord to give them to the end of the week to pay after Chad told them to leave immediately. There's been a few small variations in each post and the names change but the main plea is the same. They never answer questions and I was actually really concerned and nice the first time I saw one of these and had gotten some cash to give one of my kids that have the cash app/ venmo stuff. Then I got warnings from people in the comments and my kids said that was too sketchy and reminded me of all the times I've been taken advantage of trying to help people. The plea disappeared a few minutes after my reply but I thought they just blocked me so I couldn't see it anymore, but from your reply maybe they deleted the plea. Now I'm really curious, can you see their original post or does this thread now just start with my reply to them? For some reason I always thought that if a post was deleted then the whole thread would disappear with it, like the original post being an anchor for the whole thread. Not much would make sense without the original post.
@@MariaPereira-qc4pxa scam
Hey, it is me.. the person who ypu are looking for. And, I am responding to tell you I am a scammer. I am who I am.

The Mali or Ghana governments should come to the help of Dogon people. They are a vulnerable group. Please help to preserve and protect and give a valuation of all these objects, relics, artwork and pottery. All foreigners, especially from 'develop' countries outside of Africa must obtain a valid permit with duration. In addition, all buyers will receive an invoice, with a reference number.
There is an urgent need to help this community right now.

Great doc
The Dogon should consider using a few of the old abandoned homes for tourists. If they can keep the tourists from ruining their space, they could make a decent amount of foreign currency by having occasional tour groups spend the night.
They live much like my white family during the Great Depression times. Mine, white, were sharecroppers and the people who owned the land up north came to visit occasionally but the families raised cotton, tobacco, other crops, various animals to eat for food. There were many children - one side had 9 that lived and the other I believe 13. They canned on wood stove. Sometimes had water from the well, but usually not running water. You pulled a bucket and carried it to the house to bathe and cook with. Depending on weather, you cooked outside. The bathroom was a Johnny house.
They bathed in the winter in the kitchen where it was warm or in the hall - depending on doing on what was going on. Smallest children took their bathes first with water and then on down the line til everyone was done.. Sometimes you took water out and put fresh in. They took their crops etc by horse and wagon. Mind you this was in 1929-1934 etc. I asked my great uncle born 1920 and my grandfather born 1905 how did they get through - but for them it was life as usual. They had logging to do, they had the dairy to work, horses were used in the fields and if you could they had I believe diesel maybe gas. My grandmother was born 1913 and their parents were born in late 1888’s.
Not a good idea. Maybe the most of the tourists will be pedofiles…
@plips71755 needless to say they were slave owners
Why no mention of the Dogon discovering the star system of Sirius before the Western world?
Because the mention of that fact will not change the condition of the Dogon.

To bad there isn't a way to buy there art online. I would buy one of there carvings in the beginning of the documentary.
Me too!
Me as well. Why are the carvings not available online? Seems a simple solution.
Same
That's a good idea 🤔
Bad idea. It is not art but their spiritual connections. Spiritual are alive and connected with their ancestors and souls. You are taking away their spirit and soul. That is why they loose their power and are poor. This is still ignorant colonial monkey mind, that completely has lost its connection to soul, spirit and our sacred earth.
beautiful video
Beautiful people.
It seems that they are being taken advantage of, once again by losing their precious artwork through schemery!
Sad isn't it.
Loosing more than 'art'. Their connection to their soul, ancestors, kosmos and our sacred earth. That is why they lost, and loose their power, wisdom and connection and are poor. They are one of the most ancient people, their wisdom heritage is incredible, the rest of the dissociated modern cultures are ignorant and spoiled babies compared to them. I still believe they will rise again. It is not too late and the whole of Africa is on the rise. Remembering their wisdom and power.
True that where ever the western or European are everyone knows why they're there.
Man need to work hard for the family, just sitting around and the poor woman is working like slave. I do not like that at all 😮
This is their culture and tradition and it's not for you or anyone else to like or dislike. They don't need your approval or disapproval.
Who are you to judge? They are all working hard but you can not see everything. The women generally everywhere do more homechores in the whole world and in your country too.😉
In some parts of India it's the same. The lounging ang the woman slaves.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just because it’s “tradition” doesn’t not mean they are right in modernity
God please uplift these people so they can get better life I pray, amen!
It's so sad that they are losing their rich traditions and customs to the Christian/Islamic God. We have all been conquered, my ancestors that practiced their earthly beliefs were some of the first lost and then went on to press the new ever changing cannibalistic religion upon others. I hope that the people who still have a closer connection to their ancestors hold tight and do not let this empty god strip them of their beautiful heritage and culture . Such a treasure to be able to see this video and see the last of these cultures doing their best to not forget 😢🫶

Islam would have risen them up because it doesn't back idol worship. All about the Creator. You talking about what human do. Not the Islamic faith
Agree 💯 to your comm nt
Honey - I couldn't agree with you more💯💯💯💯
It's such a shame that their original culture is being replaced by another religion which strips them of their own power and agency and, of which originally gave appreciation to nature around them, rather than turn themselves over to an all - powerful cult leader. 😢
@@teemadarif8243Islam would’ve taken them back to the Stone Age like it does for every other Muslim! Thank goodness! We don’t need more barbaric practices coming from such fake religion

No country is safe relying on tourism. Dogon country must produce food for themselves to be able to exist and prosper.
The land is a lot drier then it used to be.
they have been around for thousands of years. Where do you think they have been getting food for themselves?
12:36 .. I’m just starting this but, if they aren’t getting foot traffic from tourists, can’t someone set them up to export their things online..
we all know buying something like that directly from the people who made it would be lucrative, because people love that kind of stuff.. 🤷♀️
Even if they only sold a little bit.. it’s consistent and more than they are getting now..

Dogon(water people) Traditional forever!💙🩵💙
So The men are the Queens and princess and the women are the hard workers that keep the tribes.
Artists in the village could make their own decorative objects to sell, and for themselves in their dwellings. Perhaps, someone could donate tools for various artistic endeavors. ❤
The houses remind me of the cliff dwellings in southern Colorado USA.
Because the Dogon were there before it was known as Southern Colorado 😂. Mansa Musa was the King of the Mali Empire and richest man ever. The richest man ever traveled all over the world. That’s the reason at Mesa Verde, they say the homes were build by “Indigenous nomads” 😂
Because they were here in uSA. People get mad at the historians that wrote about it and say it’s Afrocentric and Black people are ashamed of their real history.
Dogon mapped the stars before Europeans. The stars is how people navigated the oceans.
The Mansa’s before Musa.
THE DOGON People are a very special people. It is shameful that they are inpoverished this way due to exploitation over hundreds of years in which their history has been stolen including being bought for a trifle of the actual worth when considered in world economics. there is no excuse for this. Now they are seeking loans from museums that these institutes know are unlikely to be repaid due to the economic poverty clearly imposed upon these people. these people are a significant example of human history and a direct connection to ancient Kemetic/Egyptian spiritual sciences likely dispersed during war conflicts in Egypt in which Egypts history was being stolen in conquest as well. When the riches of a land is “taken” to inflate the ego of the conquerors and the people are left desolate one has to ask who is really the barbaric monsters in this equation. Not a lot of this truth comes out in this documentary. It is rather glossed over carefully not to impliment the criminal treatment that has befallen these people, but for those of us paying attention we can clearly see the truth reading between the lines.
I did a DNA test and found out I have 3 types of African and one is Mali, I have a total of 13 ethnicities. I am curious to find out more about Mali, the people, culture, and traditions. It's through my 2x great grandfather who was born in Brava, Cape Verde Island that I got my African bloodline from. IDKY but the first wave of Portuguese who came to Hawaii from Brava have Mali blood and are "Afro Portuguese." Thank you for this video! One day I hope to visit every place my ancestors came from.

@@WaylonCv13 it is who I am and so are my family from BRAVA who came from Brava, Cape Verde to Hawaii in the 1700's-1800's when it was under Portuguese rule. I understand that Cape Verde has been returned to the people and is now considered a developing nation. My grandparents home is still standing in Brava according to my cousins who went to visit. My cousin received a grant to do a documentary about the Hawaii/ Brava connection because our family is most likely the largest one with many descendants (more than a thousand) with Brava roots in Hawaii. I have researched my genealogy but could only find records of family members that go as far as the 1600's. I'm hoping to go to Brava to do more research.
I am sorry that my understanding in describing my ethnicity offends you. However many people explain our ethnicity by saying we are afro-portuguese, it is simple and self explanatory that way.
People connect with the description because the language spoken in Cape Verde is Portuguese and many people also have some African blood from different nations.

The cliff dwellings look so much like those of the Ancient People in the Southwest area of the United States. They were made of clay and rocks and shaped very similarly.
that’s what I thought too, the ancient Puebloan peoples, they disappeared around the early 15th century, they don’t really know what happened, drought? war? famine? disease?
It is because the Moors arrived in the United States long before the Europeans period and the dogan people are a part of the more identity .
@clinthowe7629 no they're just being called black people. I'm not being funny and being serious. The Morris have been in the United States for thousands of years. And the historical rewrite about the transatlantic slave trade is more myth than reality. It did take place but not to the extent that the eurocentric historians want you to believe. There is irrefutable proof that the Moors were in the United States had already established societies and governments
@@QUEENLOLATVwe are not moors we west africans

This is great wisdom from a real Black/African Americn man to us women, please take heed!
This is similar to how the Anazasi lived in the Sw of USA before they went extinct. The Pueblo's in the cliffs and store rooms for maize.
It's said that our people migrated to that land way before christopher columbus and spaniards Invaded there
It’s a shame that the group has become reliant on tourism. The country is not going to recover anytime soon. Maybe the museum should create a co operative to sell their wares in bigger cities and that money can assist with the development of agriculture.
I have visited Eastern Africa many times and loved it. I have never had desire to visit Western Africa because of it's slave trade heritage. After seeing this video, I must visit Mali!

Women work the hardest men got it easy
After field work is done, if there's nothing to do for the men, why just sit around? Why not help the women with all the chores(cooking, laundry, children, house, animals, farm)
It's beneath them and mothers obviously didn't raise the boys to do so. As many many cultures
A “ man “ never does women’s work 🤷♀️😏
So he most "join in house chores" so you and the rest of your "West" can agree he's hard working and not "sitting around"?
Do you stay with them to know what else the men do? Your Western values are so great that well over half of marriages crash and bitterly so in just few years, why won't you lecture these ancient people about how to live as a family as you're definitely doing better at it.
Out of point..clueless opinion...
And fix those clay houses, spoiled lazy men
