I have never thought of creating a wardrobe using a particular colour scheme, but it is a great idea! I tend to get into colour ruts where I get obsessed about one colour and then I buy 10 almost identical items in said colour! I have wasted so much money doing this over the years!

Oh I love this video! I did this for the past two years and recently just combined it all into an all year capsule wardrobe (apparently my wardrobe is SUPER minimal!!) but I'm feeling uninspired by my wardrobe - I think breaking it up into seasons again is going to be a wonderful way to utilize all of my wardrobe and to find the perfect accent pieces! Definitely going to use this video to inspire my wardrobe planning going forward!

I love your crochet collar. My Granny made me one back in the 80s when I was a child.

Great video Lauren. Working with a colour palette is key to capsule wardrobing! It's so easy to pick out your dark neutrals, light neutrals and pops of colour as you go through the year. I'm not sure how I lived without my colour palette before! 😅

Totally loved how you broke this down. I definitely was doing but totally unconsciously so it was super helpful to have this laid out more concretely. This will help me plan more in the future. I totally have a color scheme for my entire wardrobe--its super helpful because basically everything goes with everything each season and it all works with my underd-tone. :). Great Content!

I get “color cravings.” For example, I gravitate this year toward warmer neutrals. I am really loving rust/copper and milk chocolate brown - colors I haven’t worn before. The accent colors (winter green, rose and vintage blue) feel intuitive.

I think a color palette for a wardrobe is essential, otherwise the separates won’t work well together. I highly recommend getting a professional color analysis to find the most flattering colors. That’s a great starting point, but I gradually eliminated some of my flattering colors, like purple, because I didn’t love it and I found it tricky to style. Also, with age-faded coloring, I eliminated some of the brightest shades in my pro color palette. I think the smaller the palette, the easier it is to have a wardrobe that really works well.

Great ideas, thanks Lauren. Never thought of chosing the same accent colours for warm and cold seasons, just in different shades. I stay with the same neutrals as basics all year and then add red in winter and pink in summer. I find this helps me reduce my consumption. You've also motivated me to try canva again, maybe get a sponsorship from them for an extended version?

And it wasn’t even intention… just kind of happened. But I do like the way it turned out.
That would be super nice! I’ll look into it 😉.

Wow this is a phenomenal breakdown!! 🤯 I’ve never heard of Canva. That would make it so much easier (and creatively fun!) to have a cohesive wardrobe!
I was doing this unawares last year, but I would choose a picture with a color swatch on Pinterest that I loved. My wardrobe is mostly Cream, Beige/tan, light Blue, Navy, and Taupe/milky brown, and then for accent colors I chose Sage Green & Salmon in the summer, and then in the winter I added Grey and Berry red. In the spring I begin “craving” a buttercream yellow, so I thrifted a couple of buttercup yellow items to prepare ahead of time.
Having a foundational color scheme with seasonal accent colors is genius!! I don’t think other people are talking about this and it’s got to be a game changer!! Now that I am aware of this, I can take a more comprehensive look at my closet.

Great video. I've started creating a color scheme for my wardrobe. The starting point is an olive green/army green plus camel plus winter white. For me spring would be brighter colors, summer would be hotter colors and fall/winter would be toned down and darker. I have warm skin and look best in clear, clean colors without any black in them. Black, gray and very white make me look like I've risen from the dead! (Vampire anyone?) Very hard to find those clean colors. Though olive has some black in it, it still looks great on me. I also love red, but it needs to be a red with an orange tint vs a cherry or blood red.

I love using Canva for this too! I used it to put together a colour palette for our home when putting together our wedding registry. But sneakily that colour palette is also my wardrobe colour palette 🤭

Hi Lauren, has always I love your video, I have a question, what do you think about our color skin under tone, you said we can change from cool tones to warm tones, but I understand that if I have cool under tone, I may not look so well with warm colors. What do you think about that?? Great video I loved the inspiration on nature.

Just to note: designers go through a color palette selection process like this for every collection. It might be worthwhile just looking at the Pantone, and similar, color collections, to see what you have or want, in the trend colors. That’s what will be in most stores, so when a color I love comes back on-trend, I stock up. For example, I will be skipping this season’s very saturated colors, they don’t suit me, but last winter/spring’s taupe does, so I bought more of that, while it was available.

Totally wanted to play with colors on the app but can’t seem to get it to function. Maybe wrong app? Could you provide a link? Or some user tips?

    • @LaurenWMcKinney
      @LaurenWMcKinney  2 роки тому +1

Hmm, I’m not sure what’s up. I don’t really use the online version if that’s what you are using. To play with colors, I have to select a shape from the “Elements” tab, and then I go from there!
