After 0-3... here for the good old days Penn State White Out is the biggest game every year, that game had over 100,000 people attending! It's so much more hype than NFL games
I WAS AT THIS GAME IN STUDENT SECTION! THIS WAS MY SENIOR YEAR!!! WE ARE!!! Edit: That was one of the loudest games I've ever been too. It was so loud Michigan had to call a time-out to get themselves calmed. Nothing like a whiteout game truly a once in a life time experience. 2nd largest stadium in the nation and 3rd largest in the world. Wish the video showed the student section. That section is nuts during these games (its the section with the S behind the field goal post and wraps all the way up the ground level. I miss attending PSU as a student, one of the best colleges and experiences!
I was seated in the upper deck of the North Zone and banging on a metal partition for added noise. Not only did I lose my voice for a couple of days but my arm/hand was sore as well. The white out is a college spectacle like no other. Lord, how I miss it this year. We Are!!
I live near this stadium the cool thing its its surrounded by mountains , all this noise echos off the mountains , you can hear the fans from miles away
A bit of trivia . I have a mountain cabin, way back in the forest. I go there to be in nature's quiet, except on Penn state Saturdays. I can hear that crowd at my cabin like it's a neighbor's high school graduation party. That's 25 miles away, sounds like 25 feet.
Penn State's my alma mater! They started the white outs after I had been there. However my Dad goes to all the home games (pre-COVID). It is not unusual to be hoarse after a White Out game. The crowd is loud the entire time. It's also registered as some of the loudest games (if you look up decibels for football games). This first play is probably my favorite. The crowd was so loud, Michigan had to take a time out because the team couldn't hear the quarter back.
WE ARE crazy about our Football here in Happy Valley!!! Absolutely the best experience I have ever had in my entire life! There is no place like Beaver stadium!!
PSU and Blue Band alum here (also marched Madison Scouts, always enjoy the Scouts/DCI reaction vids) - marching out of that tunnel into a whiteout stadium is like nothing else. Just an absolute wall of white in all directions, and it is LOUD
Am a current saxophone player in the band. There is nothing that comes close to when the drum major hits the flip and you get obliterated by sound in all directions
@@maxenglish5106 yes! At that point, I was so focused on not messing up I didn’t even pay attention, or play any notes for that matter (for the first few games)
don't forget the 20-30,000 still in the tailgating areas that just show up to tailgate. I was a fireman there and the est. was about 140-150,000 people at the games as spectators, tailgaters or working at the game in one way or another.
This began in 2005 when a highly-ranked Ohio State team was playing them at night, and both teams had to win to keep their national championship hopes alive. The lighting effects were claimed to have had a significant influence in the game, but I'm not sure how true that was.
Michigan called a time out within the first 30 seconds of the game, but the refs didn't notice, and blew the whistle for delay of game. (Or so I've been told.) Also, this is a yearly game, and you should check out Nittanyville, where students camp outside the stadium in order to secure seats. Also, the stadium is smaller than it used to be when the stadium was retrofitted to be ADA compliant.
There were 110,669 people at that game. The stadium's official capacity is "only" 106,572 but the student section (about 1/4 of the stadium) doesn't have assigned seating so the extra are just more students stuffed in there. Still, more than twice the size if Eden Park. If you do go to the US to see a college football game, the White Out may be an overload. Before the game the parking lot has over 200,000 people who are eating, drinking, and generally having a party for hours. Don't worry about having your own food or drink because most people will just invite you to partake of theirs.
College football is the greatest!! There's truly nothing like it! That's an awesome place you watched! Clemson is even louder! Their crowd has come close to the world record several times!
I ushered at Beaver Stadium and saw many Whiteouts. The atmosphere is AMAZING!! The noise is extremely loud. You literally have to yell to talk to the person right next to you. The biggest Whiteout had over 111,000 fans. Kirk Herbstreit, a football commentator, said The Penn State Whiteout is the greatest atmosphere in all of college football. Beaver Stadium is the second largest stadium in The United States and the fourth largest in the world. On a home game day, State College, PA, becomes the third most populated area in the state of Pennsylvania. Only Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have more people.
Haha. Foreign people are always surprised when they realize this is a university AMATEUR sporting event. Oh, and at 6:50, the crowd starting cheering because the visiting team got a penalty (they couldn't hear to snap the ball and got a "delay of game").
White Out games at Penn State are once per season. They just did the White Out game last weekend on Sept 18th. But because they didn't have one for the 2020 season, they are gonna do one more later this year.
Only been to one white out game and I can say there isn't anything quite like the atmosphere in Beaver Stadium during a White Out. It'll give you chills!
White outs at Penn State University are known to be the most loudest and wildest football game ever! Like you said in the video, it’s all about the experience and it gets crazy lol. The band that was on the field, they couldn’t really hear themselves play because the crowd was INTENSE! Definitely worth a try and visit! WE ARE! PENN STATE!
It’s like that for the White Out game. Once a year Penn State has an entire stadium white out. It’s a blast, and yes it’s extremely loud. It’s an all day affair, tailgates with lots and lots of food. It’s very much a bucket list game.
The best college football atmospheres I can think of in no order are Penn State with the white out and hype, Virginia Tech with their walk out music and Wisconsin with their "jump around" song.
I am a Penn State alum. Although I am a bit biased, The White Out is the MOST INCREDIBLE college football experience. I invite you all to come experience it!
As an Ohio State fan I have a dislike for state Penn. That said, likely the best home field advantage in sport. The stories I have heard from ohio state players and coaches about how loud it gets there. The loudest recorded db there is 122db. For a reference, sound that causes physical pain starts at 125db. I find it hard to believe they haven't surpassed 125... I've heard stories about guys thinking a fan was behind them which was blowing against them moving their clothing. Only to find out there was no fan, it was just the noise of the crowd doing it. Stories about guys helmets vibrating while wearing them. Big props to their fans for creating that atmosphere, white outs are impressive 👍
The White Out games are a special occasion for sure. They get planned depending on the season progression. Whatever game in the schedule looks to be the most impactful for their season usually gets the nod as the White Out or a Stripe out. I personally got to experience the first official White Out in person in 2008 vs Ohio State. I was sure the stadium was going to collapse.
The game that led to the existence of an official White Out was 2005 vs Ohio State. The student section put out the word to white the game out and everyone.... EVERYONE did.
what she probably didn't notice was the roar that suddenly erupted when the video board showed glimpses of Joe Paterno from games of the past on this field. it is his legacy of "success with honor" that keeps 110,823 (the attendance that night; a Beaver Stadium record) of us coming back, game after game.
Just went with my family back to dear old State for an "unofficial" Penn State White Out this past weekend. Incredible fans, incredible atmosphere. Understand this is not near any major city, this is a moderately small town in Central Pennsylvania of about 50k people.
It's also a good example of how big College Football is. Penn State is one of the larger more prominent teams. This level of crowd noise is normal for schools of that size & prominence in important games. It also looks like the first play from scrimmage by Michigan resulted in a false start. A 5 yard penalty against the offense for premature movement. Crowds also usually are louder when the visiting team's offense is on the field & quieter when the home team's offense is on the field. It makes pre-snap communication harder for the visitors.
Penn state has the best college atmosphere you can experience. In the stands are 100,000 fans screaming. You can feel vibration through your body and you will get goose numbs all over your body. The white out game is only once a year against the big and best Opponent that come to penn state. If you watch a college football game this one the white out will change your life forever. Lol highly recommend going.
One thing most everyone else in the world does not fully comprehend is that this is COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY SPORTS this is not a PRO TEAM this is not the NFL. There are SO MANY universities and Colleges across the USA BIG & SMALL with sports teams ( FOOTBALL BASKETBALL BASEBALL SOCCER SWIMMING GYMNASTICS WRESTLING LECROSS FIELD HOCKEY and so much more ) Out of all the Universities in the USA there are MANY big ones like this that have 10-20-50-60 THOUSAND Students that attend university at their respective schools and stadiums like this can hold 80-100 THOUSAND people and there are many of these across the USA. With Everything AMERICA HAS Keep this in Mind -- AMERICA HOLDS **LESS** than 1/23 of the worlds population.
Now what happened at the beginning of the game after the kickoff was crazy. Michigan lined up to play against PSU but the crowd was so load that Michigan's center couldn't hear the quarterbacks call or "cadence" so the refs blew the whistle because the coaches on Michigan called a timeout to regroup
You should look up Mankind Vs Undertaker, Hell in a Cell, the most famous match ever! Remember I'm the guy who asked you to do the isle of man tt race!!! Much love fromnprth east Florida!
The Penn State vs Michigan game in 2019 was a big deal since Penn State finally held onto a big lead and figured out how to close out a game. So often in 2017-2018 PSU had a huge lead and the other team would slowly chip away and win, here Penn State denied Michigan's comeback attempt. 2019 Penn State finished 11-2 and ranked #9 with close heartbreaking losses to a very good Minnesota team and archrival Ohio State but finished strong with a two-touchdown win over Big East champion Memphis with a 53-39 score. .
Question. How is the school allowed to play music while they’re lined up? Crowd noise is one thing, but non crowd noise is allowed? I thought they had to turn it off after the huddle
I've been to dozens of concerts, NFL games, military ranges, car races and all manner of loud activities, and really nothing compares to the sound levels of Happy Valley's white outs. You can yell as loud as you want, but you can't hear yourself. There are times towards the end of games that I'm not sure that I'm still yelling or if I've gone hoarse. You just can't tell.
Penn State’s Whiteout is the most intimidating environment for away teams to play in. I was at that game, and it’s 100 times more hype in person. We’ll get you there!!
I absolutely love your reactions!! Very sincere!! Your accent is amazing as well!! But you should definitely react to the Clemson Tigers stadium entrance, it is unlike any other. Have a blessed day! -Cody-
cryin bc I miss this so much (praying to be able to go for a final white out game for my senior year in 2021!!) I was at this game in 2019 absolutely loved every second of it, I lost my voice from all the screaming
Michigan couldn’t hear the snap count due to Penn State’s student section so they got a delay of game penalty. Penn States whiteout game is the loudest game of the year. The student section in state college started the whiteout tradition and it spread out throughout Beaver Statium
When your team has to go into a white out it’s horrifying. My team is Michigan so if your teams never played in a game like that, you’ll never get a true experience of the environment.
i grew up 32 mi southeast of St College, home of thw Penn State Nittany Lions and played in marching band in that very stadium. My home! We Are. A ton of people i grew up with are there! This my dear is the epitome of college fb in Anerica. Its awesome to be in the stadium.
The student section (on the end with the S) is about 20k students. We stand on the benches the whole game. The only time there is silence is when our offense is on the field.
When the Quebec Nordiques were in the NHL before moving to Denver and becoming the Colorado Avalanche, Le Colisee would have whiteout nights where all the fans would be in white. This would be done especially when they played the Montreal Canadiens, their archrivals from the same province.
I have only personally experienced Wisconsin games. They have a tradition of Jump Around. The entire stadium jumps and you can feel the stadium rattle. Overall, college games are more hype.
I was at this game. The best college football atmosphere and I game I will never forget, it was ridiculous loud and I cant wait till i can get back into that stadium
110,000 fans. Penn State is the greatest show in Football. There is nothing like a "white out" I was there for the first. I was a season ticket holder and tailgated for 30 years. College Football in the U.S. is even bigger than the NFL. Penn State has the third largest stadium in the world, and it is the loudest in the world. Not football Stadiums, ALL stadiums. There are only two larger. The Big house in Anne Arbor Michigan, and North Koreas soccer stadium, but neither are louder. Another interesting little fact for you, "We are - Penn State" is actually "We are ALL Penn State" and stems from the fact that Wally Triplett a black player was told that he'd have to stay home if the team went to play Miami, in the south, I believe it was 1948. The team had a meeting, to decide if they'd play or if they'd cancel the game. Someone in the meeting said "We are all Penn State" meaning if Wally couldn't play, no one would play. It was misquoted to the press, and became "We are .... Penn State" the rally cry you hear from the crowd, half shouting we are, the other half responding Penn State until the side shouting We Are changes it to Thank you, which is answered with "You're welcome". Penn State was also the first team to have a black player in the cotton bowl in 1948. Wally Triplett would go on to become the first Black player drafted in the NFL to start a game (although he was the 3rd black player drafted). He still ranks second for single game kickoff return yardage. He put his career on hold in 1950 when he was the first NFL player drafted for the Korean war. The man who is the cause of "We Are.... Penn State" the most recognizable college football call and response.
Beaver Stadium-where Penn State Football plays-is the 3rd largest stadium in the world. There were over 110k fans at this game. The WhiteOut game is a once a season event where we go all out against an opponent 😎👊
108,000 people in that stadium. 3rd largest stadium in the world. My daughter attended PSU and football games are very big there. Penn St and Michigan are big rivals. That was a national TV game!!! The noise is very loud and fans are all into it. Sad the video did not show the student section.

And yes, Michigan lost that football game against Penn State.
Courtney, there were 110,669 people in Beaver Stadium for that game. The record crowd was 110,889. The final score was PSU - 28 Michigan - 21.
Yay, you finally reacted to this!
PSU and Blue Band alum here (also marched Madison Scouts, always enjoy the Scouts/DCI reaction vids) - marching out of that tunnel into a whiteout stadium is like nothing else. Just an absolute wall of white in all directions, and it is LOUD
Wooot wooot! Go STATE! 💙🤍💙🤍
Am a current saxophone player in the band. There is nothing that comes close to when the drum major hits the flip and you get obliterated by sound in all directions
@@ianbrannan8841 did your section leaders/guides also tell you not to watch the flip your freshman year?
@@maxenglish5106 yes! At that point, I was so focused on not messing up I didn’t even pay attention, or play any notes for that matter (for the first few games)
Those Penn State games are willddd ! That atmosphere and energy is unmatched
Thats over 100,000 people in that stadium and temporarily making that stadium the 3rd largest city in the state of Pennsylvania
don't forget the 20-30,000 still in the tailgating areas that just show up to tailgate. I was a fireman there and the est. was about 140-150,000 people at the games as spectators, tailgaters or working at the game in one way or another.
Michigan had to call a timeout because you cant hear on the field😭
This began in 2005 when a highly-ranked Ohio State team was playing them at night, and both teams had to win to keep their national championship hopes alive. The lighting effects were claimed to have had a significant influence in the game, but I'm not sure how true that was.
Found this while looking to SOMEHOW convey the hype of PSU to my orientation students for this fall!
Michigan called a time out within the first 30 seconds of the game, but the refs didn't notice, and blew the whistle for delay of game. (Or so I've been told.) Also, this is a yearly game, and you should check out Nittanyville, where students camp outside the stadium in order to secure seats. Also, the stadium is smaller than it used to be when the stadium was retrofitted to be ADA compliant.
i can contest to these , i saw tents up on monday for saturdays game this week , they dont play around in happy valley
I’ve been to a few without outs in my life they are absolutely crazy definitely one of the most intense atmospheres in the world
There were 110,669 people at that game.
Because of the stadiums location, there is a massive echo that you can hear from the nearby town
Virginia Tech has a great entrance as well!
White outs at Penn State University are known to be the most loudest and wildest football game ever! Like you said in the video, it’s all about the experience and it gets crazy lol. The band that was on the field, they couldn’t really hear themselves play because the crowd was INTENSE! Definitely worth a try and visit! WE ARE! PENN STATE!
This is what college football is and should be!!
Courtney officially bleeds White and Blue. “Black Shoes. Basic Blues. No Names. All Game.” P. S. U. LETS GO PSU!! WE ARE PENN STATE!!!
WE ARE 0-4
Check out the trumpets under the Dome from Notre Dame
Even the people who get paid to go to college football games are in awe of the Penn State white out atmosphere.
WE ARE....PENN STATE that place holds about 110 thousand people and it is LOUD... I lived nearby.
what she probably didn't notice was the roar that suddenly erupted when the video board showed glimpses of Joe Paterno from games of the past on this field. it is his legacy of "success with honor" that keeps 110,823 (the attendance that night; a Beaver Stadium record) of us coming back, game after game.
It’s is my dream as a Penn State fan to get to a Whiteout! I’ve been to several other games and the atmosphere is amazing!
You haven't truly lived until you've been to a Penn State White Out !!
I was at that game, my dad has had season tickets since 1972 and I've gone to most of the home games since I was a kid.
Just figure out what college I want to go to
One thing most everyone else in the world does not fully comprehend is that this is COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY SPORTS this is not a PRO TEAM this is not the NFL.
-Cody-
Do you go to PVHS
cryin bc I miss this so much (praying to be able to go for a final white out game for my senior year in 2021!!) I was at this game in 2019 absolutely loved every second of it, I lost my voice from all the screaming
Michigan couldn’t hear the snap count due to Penn State’s student section so they got a delay of game penalty. Penn States whiteout game is the loudest game of the year. The student section in state college started the whiteout tradition and it spread out throughout Beaver Statium
The end where where the gate is. That’s the student section and it gets LOUD
2020 feels like 5 years and also about an month and a half at the same exact time.
So true!
That is one of the best atmospheres in sports period, its a really a special experience. If you get a chance to go you need to do it
West Virginia has Country Roads after games at home. Virginia Tech shouldn't be overlooked, either, with Enter Sandman.
The amazing thing is at the same time this White Out is going on the same thing is going on at stadiums all over the county.
Was at this game.. PSU White Out game is the greatest College Football atmosphere.. tailgating starts 2 nights prior to the game. WE ARE!
When your team has to go into a white out it’s horrifying. My team is Michigan so if your teams never played in a game like that, you’ll never get a true experience of the environment.
Haha I feel bad when a rebuilding team that's mostly freshmen comes to play in a white out. Sort of.
Gotta make your way to the Texas State Fair in October. The Red River Rivalry. Oklahoma vs Texas. Up among the greatest rivalries in college football
I have been to 2 white out games 2016 and 2019. There is nothing like it. The best environment to watch a college football game.
i grew up 32 mi southeast of St College, home of thw Penn State Nittany Lions and played in marching band in that very stadium. My home!
Every week, I can hear the crowd from my house. I was at that game and there was no more than 2 inches between people
The most recent White Out just happened last Saturday. 109,558 people inside the stadium!
I was at this game. The best college football atmosphere and I game I will never forget, it was ridiculous loud and I cant wait till i can get back into that stadium
I have some friends that were at that game. Sounded like a blast!!
I live a mile from Pennsylvania state
Just a year ago we had undefeated Penn State versus one-loss Michigan. As I write this, Penn State is winless and Michigan has one win.
Everything was all screwy in 2020. Surprised Franklin and Harbaugh both didn't get fired
Song at 6:40? I could listen to that beat all day.
Beaver Stadium-where Penn State Football plays-is the 3rd largest stadium in the world. There were over 110k fans at this game.
The WhiteOut game is a once a season event where we go all out against an opponent 😎👊
Fun atmosphere. Big crowd but below average compared to every Saturday in Ann Arbor in the Big House. White out is an excellent newer tradition.
The Tailgating at any college or Pro game is crazy as well. Each college has there thing. It's the show before the show. Michigan is a big rival.
108,000 people in that stadium. 3rd largest stadium in the world. My daughter attended PSU and football games are very big there. Penn St and Michigan are big rivals. That was a national TV game!!! The noise is very loud and fans are all into it. Sad the video did not show the student section.
