Not a fan of graded bullion. I really don't care who grades it or if the grade is MS69, MS70 or AU55. It is just an ounce of silver to me. I understand some people do care, but I am not one of them. I think grading bullion is a waste of time, money and effort. I would rather spend my time watching "Coin Geek" videos !
I couldn’t agree more! If I do buy them they are ms69 and I was picking up those that “fell through the cracks” for $19-$22 before COVID hit. Most sold for $27-$30 but occasionally ones would sell really low. Those I wanna would buy
Just don't look too close at those MS70 eagles-- because they may not be, despite the label. The 2020 PCGS green label slabs have all sorts of defects visible to the naked eye...
I've purchased 3 2020(P) Silver Eagles at MS69 and they're anticipated to appreciate double what I paid for them plus a little more by the summer of 2021. I'd advise everyone stick to MS69/MS70
I if a big price difference I go with affordable 69. Because I don't belive anything is perfect and I can always find some smallest flaw in a 70 coin. Especially now

I mean honestly I think they are just as good. But PCGS really does have an edge on them too... they just do. The coins trade at 10 dollars more. Just like NGC trades for 20 dollars over ANACS maybe more depending on the coin.. which is sad really it should be based more on the coin right? Although, really most coins are sold online... and so these prices just reflect peoples faith in the third party grading company's reliability of grading... i know a whole crowd of older dealers that won't touch anything but PCGS sight unseen. I have sent two 2008 W Burnish silver American Eagles to PCGS that came back as SP70 . Double win. On a side note sent three 1oz PAE 2015, 2016 and 2018 to PCGS the 15 and 16 came back as PF69 the 18 as a PF70, all with DC on the label. I can not see a difference between a MS69 from MS70 without a coin grader across the table from me pointing things out.

I've been collecting ASE's since 1986 and always picking what I consider to be "perfect" coins. I have only one 1999 and I consider it to be MS69, so yes, it is not easy for that year.

Yes I agree it's hard to get a ms 70 . I've sent in to NGC a 1998 s silver Kennedy hafes. With a 10 x loupe to me flawless . when I got it back it was ms 68 . very disappointed. I also look for early eagles it's very hard to get a 70 grade. But I did get a 1954 proof Franklin in 69 * grade very happy about that. Love your video's keep them coming.

have a 2016-W PCGS MS70 First Strike Silver Eagle 30th Anniversary. I've had it since issue. Today while looking at it, I noticed the top face edge, right above the E in Liberty has a cud error. Upon closer view, thru magnification you can definitely see the mis-strike pressed off the edge. Would it increases value? I'm confused how it could be graded MS70 with a cud error? Any assistance would be appreciated.
First lol it is neesh It is an interesting idea to buy a ton of silver eagles to try to get a MS70 or a few, but it also sounds expensive. Buying graded silver eagles in the first place seems pointless to me, unless it is on of those ground zero recovery coins. Maybe you should do a video on those sometime.
The grading companies make millions from people hoping for a home run 70 and a thousand dollar payout. Are those huge sale prices truly real? How do we know if only one sold at that price?
Maybe if you have an eye for coin grading, you need only send a few of your raw silver eagles to PCGS, and still have a high likelihood of getting an MS70. Still, if you, as a collector, want a PCGS MS70 coin, it might be cheaper to buy one already slabbed.

CACG is the way to go for American silver eagle grading. I saw MS70 silver eagles graded by PCGS downgraded to MS68 on CAC crossovers so I’m not convinced that PCGS or NGC are doing their due diligence.
Another BIG reason I don't think there are unopened Monster Boxes of Silver Eagles from pre-2002 sitting around is because IF someone had an unopened Monster Box, the box would say if they came from the San Francisco Mint or the West Point Mint. If someone had a box of ASEs still in a Monster Box (pre 2002) they would be EXTREMELY valuable because they could be graded WITH an "(S)" or "(W)" in parenthesis next to the date indicating which mint they came from. Even in MS69 condition, they would be worth hundreds of $ because there are currently NONE from pre-2002 that have a mint designation on the slab label. If one of the major online retailers got their hands on an unopened box of pre-2002 ASEs we would know about it because it would be a first, and probably make it on the cover of Coin World. But we haven't seen that yet. That is another reason I think all, or nearly all pre-2002 ASEs have been picked through. That doesn't mean there aren't raw MS70s out there that could still be graded as MS70. There are. But I don't think that makes up for the MS70s that have gone bad in the holder. I'd bet 50% or more of the pre-2002 MS70 ASEs that have been graded MS70 have developed spots and toning that make them no longer MS70. So they are MUCH rarer than NGC and PCGS census would lead you to believe.
Question: What's the difference in value between an MS-60 Silver Eagle and an MS-70 Silver Eagle? Answer: Not a penny. These are coins made in unlimited qualities for the express purpose of investing in bullion. They have no numismatic value because they were never intended to.
There's a couple that are low-mintage that will appeal to silver eagle collectors. Good eagles to invest in are the 2015, the 2020(P), and the 2020(S) proof. These are the top 3 rarest and not that I myself love the coins, but as a young kid trying to build his collection, it looks like a great way to invest in something with demand that I can sell this next year and still profit from.
@xxGodx I agree re: Morgan dollars. But there's a few differences between them and Silver Eagles. First, They're not making any more Morgan dollars, so the next MS70 Morgan can't come rolling off the production line. Second, there's a lot of demand, certainly a lot more than SEs. Third, Morgans were minted as coins for circulation, while the SEs are not. The only thing you're buying with an SE is a particularly good strike with a particularly good planchet that didn't end up with a bunch of dings when it was bagged. But there was no chance that the SE could have ended up in circulation.
@xxGodx True dat on Morgans. Man, there are a ton of them in Mint State. I always thought that Lady Liberty looked like Shelly Winters in the 1970s😁. I much prefer seated dollars.
I don't think there are Monster Boxes of 1996 ASEs just lying around in people's basements that are MS70s. Any competent dealer should have had them graded or sold them with the INSANE premiums they were fetching ($80+ raw!!); and any individual person who didn't know how much they were selling for, should have learned about it from someone like me, or you. I told EVERYONE I knew, who could possibly own any significant amount of ASEs, that they needed to sell them 2 YEARS ago!! I think any significant quantity of pre-2002 ASEs have been picked through by now. I think that EVEN if someone DID have a Monster Box of 1996 ASEs just lying around, they would be in such bad condition, simply from poor storage conditions or improper handling, that almost NONE of them would grade as MS70. Most probably wouldn't grade as MS69. This is because ASEs are NOTORIOUS for developing milk-spots!!! Real milk-spots CANNOT be removed, even with E-Zest. So that probably eliminates 250 of the 500, right there. Probably 95% of the "MS70" ASEs from pre-2002 you see on eBay have milk spots on them. None of them are, or ever will be MS70 again. Milk spots can take a decade to develop after they are slabbed. That continually DECREASES the supply of MS70 ASEs. And IMOP, a milk spot bigger than a pin head eliminates it from even being an MS69. PCGS and NGC appear to agree with me on this. With respect to poor handling, ESPECIALLY during the mid-1990s, silver was so cheap, dealers treated them like junk silver buffalos, rather than real coins. Every time I see someone with a UA-cam channel pop open a roll of new ASEs and spread them out on a table like a deck of cards, I think to myself, "if any of those were MS70, they're not anymore!" Anytime a dealer picks one up and plants a thumbprint right in the center of the coin, it is no longer an MS70. Every time you hear two ASEs knock together, they are no longer MS70. It wasn't until COVID (2020) that dealers started treating ASEs with "respect." Before that dealers treated them like crap and laughed at anyone who thought to use gloves to handle them. They're not laughing anymore! My challenge to everybody is "can you find a pre-2000 ASE that NGC or PCGS would grade as even an MS69?" Yes, you may think you have a solid MS69 (or even MS70), but NGC and PCGS are reluctant to hand out MS69s. I've seen flawless-looking ASEs slabbed as MS68!! And because of the insane prices MS70 ASEs from pre-2002 fetch, I doubt they would give a little guy like you or me an MS70, even if it was MS70. Also, where would you even get a raw, pre-2001 ASE worthy of an MS69, or especially an MS70?? Any large dealer has picked through the raw ASEs they sell and had them graded. Any raw pre-2002 ASE they would send you will almost certainly be no better than an MS68 because they already had the MS69s and MS70s graded at steep discounts NGC or PCGS would NEVER offer to an individual person. It probably costs APMEX $5 to have an ASE graded by NGC or PCGS. And they don't appear to pay extra for "early release," or "first release" labels. So APMEX, SD Bullion, Golden Eagle, etc are not going to sell you a raw pre-2002 MS70 ASE and probably not even a raw MS69 until after 2001. Your best bet would be a small local dealer who came across a roll of them and doesn't think it's worth their time or money to submit just 20 ASEs, especially if most, or all, might come back as only MS69. It's better for them to sell a roll as "premium quality" raw ASEs and charge a higher price rather than take the risk. This is the only way I can think of even finding a potential raw MS70 from pre-2002. I have a few excellent examples of 1993-1997 ASEs that I am reluctant to have graded because even though I think they are strong MS69s, (relative to all the other NGC-graded MS69 ASEs I have from the 1990s), I can't guarantee NGC would even grade them all as MS69. Should I send them to NGC and see what I get back? I have a "grading subscription" with NGC that I already paid for this year.
I think that I have one of the few 1996 sealed monster boxes around. I have debated opening it up. I thought someone would be very interested in paying a premium for a sealed monster box but it crazy how some will pay spot, +$1, +$3 or even up to $52/coin and don't care if it has been opened. Thanks for the info on milk spots. I'd like to go through the 500 and pick out the best canidates for MS69 or 70. Its definitely an interesting topic. Whether the value of the eagle if holdered in a ms70 would play into the graders criteria for a ms70. Who knows. I'm sure if we asked one they probably wouldn't admit it even if it does.
YEP! Exactly right! If the difference in value between an MS69 and an MS70 could be THOUSANDS of $, they are going to be VERY reluctant to hand out an MS70. It would be HIGHLY scrutinized by many people for even the slightest flaw. So if they give out an MS70 from pre-2002, they need to make sure it IS an MS70. Although NGC and PCGS would never admit it, this is important.
what do you think about nnc grading service? i have had some good luck buying these slabs and sending them to ngc and pcgs. first i always look at the coin, my wife does this now as my eyes went to hell. and if the nns slab said ms 65 i try to buy the coin at au55 sheet price. the coin has to have a great look for my wife especially morgans as my wife hates morgan dollars.
hello , I just bought some very nice MS 70 PCGS ASE from an e bay auction ....when i look at them through flash light I see some appearance of Milk spots ( they are not visible with naked eyes ) ....should I keep them or should I return ?
Well this is solely my opinion and is not subjective. ASE are a waste of time to send off to get graded its nothing more than Silver for spot price and should only be purchased for the what they are. i personally dont believe that they have any real price beyond the Silver Spot price, yes i have seen the price guides on ASE's and it makes me chuckle. SIlver is Silver and its only worth the Silver Melt Price. Sorry if this offends anybody in the hobby but take the fact that i wont compete for those items.
I try to pay most attention to coin not slab. That being said I only look at coins in pcgs. Ngc and older coins not 69 or 70 anacs. Now I'm looking at cacg
Wow, so much confusion here, your reader comments seem to be nothing but newbies and apparently don’t understand how to research a coin on eBay completed and sold aswell as changing the eBay filter from most recent to highest first in the sold category to see what year is getting the best highest prices aswell as lowest to see if there are any bargain years. The tools are out there learn how to use them, ebay is my go to for coin purchases 99% of the time and I only collect certified PCGS silver dollars.
I have 4 pr 2003w that look real nice that I did not pay alot for that i may send in after I examined them more under my microscope.maby if I get a 70 it may be worth it,paid each 69.00-89.00 the 4 can't remember for which one's though737,000 total minted I believe.
My dad left an entire box of ms 70 ngc graded that were graded years ago either by my dad or he purchased them already graded / stabbed by ngc. They were stolen toward the end of 2017 !
I think the grading companies have become corrupt, it use to be for the collector market now it companies dumping loads and loads of monster boxes. I got a 2022 NGC and PCGS MS70 @ FP70 W silver eagle for $70 graded shipped and if I want a box and certificate can get that for $5 to $10 vis $85 from the US Mint that's $85 plus shipping. If you search you can pick up almost any year of MS69's for $5 max over buying a raw eagle coin. MS70 and MS69 was the standard with a standard label, now you have PF70 and a ton of different labels🙄. I would not grade a coin today, if I did maybe a real nice low mintage silver coins.
REMEMBER WHEN SELLING YOUR QUALITY COINS GRADED OR NOT. MOST DEALERS ONLY GIVE YOU 60-70% OF THEIR GREY SHEET VALUE. COLLECTORS GIVE YOU THE BEST PRICE AND THEY PAY CASH.😊
Do they just go through and say ah this ones Ms 69 ah this one's a Ms 70 and so on cause I have a Ms 69 and a Ms 70 and I garentee you can't show me any difference in the two coins.
And you and all sellers say, buy the coin and not the holder but then again you keep promoting PCGS and NCG.to the point you see there is a collusion within both company. Until both are destroyed coin collecting is in trouble.
I hate MS70 Silver Eagles! I do like loose Silver Eagles though. In fact I believe every MS70 Silver Eagle should be in an ANACS/ICG holder! I also believe that a Silver Eagle must have milk spots in order to grade MS70 so that the most valuable grade a Silver Eagle can achieve is PCGS MS69 NMS (with their 12-month No Milk Spots guarantee!).
Why don't you distinguish the difference between the types of ASEs available and being graded. For example, there is bullion silver eagles which are made in the tens of millions annually. They have no mint mark and are only good for the spot weight in silver. Then there's numismatic collectible silver eagles in proof versions reverse proof enhanced reverse and burnished silver eagles with mintages between 200,000 to 500,000. Some lower and higher is some cases. In my opinion bullion silver eagles should not even be talked about in the same way as collectible silver eagles. The collectible silver eagles have mint marks and quite a bit fewer are made. Dealers rarely talk about the differences in these types of Silver Eagles.
If iam spending 10k on a coin its either a nice trade dollar or nice pre 33 gold. Definitely not silver eagles. May that silver eagle set i bought a while in a album ight heve some gems. Hmmmm
Ultimately, this is all about paying for the grade. You could own a raw silver eagle that you could've spent for spot plus a premium. However, you could spend thousands for that same exact silver eagle only difference is its in a holder with a 70 on it. The whole things a stupid idea and the people making the most money from this are the grading companies. The people who send in their eagles desperately wanting a certain number on the holder need to GET REAL.

If someone had a box of ASEs still in a Monster Box (pre 2002) they would be EXTREMELY valuable because they could be graded WITH an "(S)" or "(W)" in parenthesis next to the date indicating which mint they came from. Even in MS69 condition, they would be worth hundreds of $ because there are currently NONE from pre-2002 that have a mint designation on the slab label. If one of the major online retailers got their hands on an unopened box of pre-2002 ASEs we would know about it because it would be a first, and probably make it on the cover of Coin World. But we haven't seen that yet. That is another reason I think all, or nearly all pre-2002 ASEs have been picked through.
That doesn't mean there aren't raw MS70s out there that could still be graded as MS70. There are. But I don't think that makes up for the MS70s that have gone bad in the holder. I'd bet 50% or more of the pre-2002 MS70 ASEs that have been graded MS70 have developed spots and toning that make them no longer MS70. So they are MUCH rarer than NGC and PCGS census would lead you to believe.

These are coins made in unlimited qualities for the express purpose of investing in bullion. They have no numismatic value because they were never intended to.

There's a couple that are low-mintage that will appeal to silver eagle collectors. Good eagles to invest in are the 2015, the 2020(P), and the 2020(S) proof. These are the top 3 rarest and not that I myself love the coins, but as a young kid trying to build his collection, it looks like a great way to invest in something with demand that I can sell this next year and still profit from.
@xxGodx I agree re: Morgan dollars. But there's a few differences between them and Silver Eagles. First, They're not making any more Morgan dollars, so the next MS70 Morgan can't come rolling off the production line. Second, there's a lot of demand, certainly a lot more than SEs. Third, Morgans were minted as coins for circulation, while the SEs are not.
The only thing you're buying with an SE is a particularly good strike with a particularly good planchet that didn't end up with a bunch of dings when it was bagged. But there was no chance that the SE could have ended up in circulation.

I don't think there are Monster Boxes of 1996 ASEs just lying around in people's basements that are MS70s. Any competent dealer should have had them graded or sold them with the INSANE premiums they were fetching ($80+ raw!!); and any individual person who didn't know how much they were selling for, should have learned about it from someone like me, or you.
I told EVERYONE I knew, who could possibly own any significant amount of ASEs, that they needed to sell them 2 YEARS ago!! I think any significant quantity of pre-2002 ASEs have been picked through by now.
I think that EVEN if someone DID have a Monster Box of 1996 ASEs just lying around, they would be in such bad condition, simply from poor storage conditions or improper handling, that almost NONE of them would grade as MS70. Most probably wouldn't grade as MS69. This is because ASEs are NOTORIOUS for developing milk-spots!!! Real milk-spots CANNOT be removed, even with E-Zest. So that probably eliminates 250 of the 500, right there. Probably 95% of the "MS70" ASEs from pre-2002 you see on eBay have milk spots on them. None of them are, or ever will be MS70 again. Milk spots can take a decade to develop after they are slabbed. That continually DECREASES the supply of MS70 ASEs. And IMOP, a milk spot bigger than a pin head eliminates it from even being an MS69. PCGS and NGC appear to agree with me on this.
With respect to poor handling, ESPECIALLY during the mid-1990s, silver was so cheap, dealers treated them like junk silver buffalos, rather than real coins. Every time I see someone with a UA-cam channel pop open a roll of new ASEs and spread them out on a table like a deck of cards, I think to myself, "if any of those were MS70, they're not anymore!" Anytime a dealer picks one up and plants a thumbprint right in the center of the coin, it is no longer an MS70. Every time you hear two ASEs knock together, they are no longer MS70. It wasn't until COVID (2020) that dealers started treating ASEs with "respect." Before that dealers treated them like crap and laughed at anyone who thought to use gloves to handle them. They're not laughing anymore!
My challenge to everybody is "can you find a pre-2000 ASE that NGC or PCGS would grade as even an MS69?" Yes, you may think you have a solid MS69 (or even MS70), but NGC and PCGS are reluctant to hand out MS69s. I've seen flawless-looking ASEs slabbed as MS68!! And because of the insane prices MS70 ASEs from pre-2002 fetch, I doubt they would give a little guy like you or me an MS70, even if it was MS70. Also, where would you even get a raw, pre-2001 ASE worthy of an MS69, or especially an MS70?? Any large dealer has picked through the raw ASEs they sell and had them graded. Any raw pre-2002 ASE they would send you will almost certainly be no better than an MS68 because they already had the MS69s and MS70s graded at steep discounts NGC or PCGS would NEVER offer to an individual person. It probably costs APMEX $5 to have an ASE graded by NGC or PCGS. And they don't appear to pay extra for "early release," or "first release" labels. So APMEX, SD Bullion, Golden Eagle, etc are not going to sell you a raw pre-2002 MS70 ASE and probably not even a raw MS69 until after 2001. Your best bet would be a small local dealer who came across a roll of them and doesn't think it's worth their time or money to submit just 20 ASEs, especially if most, or all, might come back as only MS69. It's better for them to sell a roll as "premium quality" raw ASEs and charge a higher price rather than take the risk. This is the only way I can think of even finding a potential raw MS70 from pre-2002.
I have a few excellent examples of 1993-1997 ASEs that I am reluctant to have graded because even though I think they are strong MS69s, (relative to all the other NGC-graded MS69 ASEs I have from the 1990s), I can't guarantee NGC would even grade them all as MS69.

I think that I have one of the few 1996 sealed monster boxes around. I have debated opening it up. I thought someone would be very interested in paying a premium for a sealed monster box but it crazy how some will pay spot, +$1, +$3 or even up to $52/coin and don't care if it has been opened. Its definitely an interesting topic. Whether the value of the eagle if holdered in a ms70 would play into the graders criteria for a ms70. Who knows. I'm sure if we asked one they probably wouldn't admit it even if it does.
YEP! Exactly right! If the difference in value between an MS69 and an MS70 could be THOUSANDS of $, they are going to be VERY reluctant to hand out an MS70. It would be HIGHLY scrutinized by many people for even the slightest flaw. So if they give out an MS70 from pre-2002, they need to make sure it IS an MS70. Although NGC and PCGS would never admit it, this is important.
what do you think about nnc grading service? i have had some good luck buying these slabs and sending them to ngc and pcgs. first i always look at the coin, my wife does this now as my eyes went to hell. and if the nns slab said ms 65 i try to buy the coin at au55 sheet price. the coin has to have a great look for my wife especially morgans as my wife hates morgan dollars.
hello , I just bought some very nice MS 70 PCGS ASE from an e bay auction ....when i look at them through flash light I see some appearance of Milk spots ( they are not visible with naked eyes ) ....should I keep them or should I return ?

Well this is solely my opinion and is not subjective. ASE are a waste of time to send off to get graded its nothing more than Silver for spot price and should only be purchased for the what they are. i personally dont believe that they have any real price beyond the Silver Spot price, yes i have seen the price guides on ASE's and it makes me chuckle. SIlver is Silver and its only worth the Silver Melt Price. Sorry if this offends anybody in the hobby but take the fact that i wont compete for those items.

Wow, so much confusion here, your reader comments seem to be nothing but newbies and apparently don’t understand how to research a coin on eBay completed and sold aswell as changing the eBay filter from most recent to highest first in the sold category to see what year is getting the best highest prices aswell as lowest to see if there are any bargain years. The tools are out there learn how to use them, ebay is my go to for coin purchases 99% of the time and I only collect certified PCGS silver dollars.

My dad left an entire box of ms 70 ngc graded that were graded years ago either by my dad or he purchased them already graded / stabbed by ngc. They were stolen toward the end of 2017 !

I think the grading companies have become corrupt, it use to be for the collector market now it companies dumping loads and loads of monster boxes. I got a 2022 NGC and PCGS MS70 @ FP70 W silver eagle for $70 graded shipped and if I want a box and certificate can get that for $5 to $10 vis $85 from the US Mint that's $85 plus shipping. If you search you can pick up almost any year of MS69's for $5 max over buying a raw eagle coin. MS70 and MS69 was the standard with a standard label, now you have PF70 and a ton of different labels🙄. I would not grade a coin today, if I did maybe a real nice low mintage silver coins.

Do they just go through and say ah this ones Ms 69 ah this one's a Ms 70 and so on cause I have a Ms 69 and a Ms 70 and I garentee you can't show me any difference in the two coins.

I hate MS70 Silver Eagles! I do like loose Silver Eagles though.
In fact I believe every MS70 Silver Eagle should be in an ANACS/ICG holder! I also believe that a Silver Eagle must have milk spots in order to grade MS70 so that the most valuable grade a Silver Eagle can achieve is PCGS MS69 NMS (with their 12-month No Milk Spots guarantee!).
Why don't you distinguish the difference between the types of ASEs available and being graded. For example, there is bullion silver eagles which are made in the tens of millions annually. They have no mint mark and are only good for the spot weight in silver. Then there's numismatic collectible silver eagles in proof versions reverse proof enhanced reverse and burnished silver eagles with mintages between 200,000 to 500,000. Some lower and higher is some cases.
In my opinion bullion silver eagles should not even be talked about in the same way as collectible silver eagles. The collectible silver eagles have mint marks and quite a bit fewer are made. Dealers rarely talk about the differences in these types of Silver Eagles.
If iam spending 10k on a coin its either a nice trade dollar or nice pre 33 gold. Definitely not silver eagles. May that silver eagle set i bought a while in a album ight heve some gems. Hmmmm

Ultimately, this is all about paying for the grade. You could own a raw silver eagle that you could've spent for spot plus a premium. However, you could spend thousands for that same exact silver eagle only difference is its in a holder with a 70 on it. The whole things a stupid idea and the people making the most money from this are the grading companies. The people who send in their eagles desperately wanting a certain number on the holder need to GET REAL.
