I bought 5 of these in an ebay auction. If this happens to you, the one thing you DON'T want to tell eBay is that they're counterfeit. Ebay makes you jump through all kinds of hoops and they take forever to refund your money. Instead, you should say that the item was not as described. I claimed that they were mislabeled as ASEs but, they were actually theatrical props. I returned the fakes and had my money back in about 5 days.

I bought through Ebay and they refunded no problem just took a bit. I just clicked that they weren’t as described, and when it asked for an explanation I said they were counterfeit and posted a photo of them stuck to a magnet. It gave me a label to send them back and I sent them, but they came back to me. Then I contacted Ebay and said they came back to me and I think they were scammers, and Ebay refunded my money. It didn’t require a lot of hoops, but it took time doing it that way and probably wasted more of Ebay’s money, but I didn’t see how to report it without going through the prescribed channels on the website. 🤷🏼♀️ Lesson learned I guess.

I just started out buying silver late last year with no knowledge and bought 6 (for my children's Christmas presents) of the fake eagles on ebay. Once I figured it out and they were jacking me around about a refund I went straight to ebay and they refunded me within a minute. Whew at least my rookie mistake only cost me time, stress, and a bit of embarrassment. I bought some rounds from a reputable dealer and for just a bit more in money my kids finally got their late Christmas presents and first silver.
Thanks Silver 🐉 Scammers NEVERr let a crisis go to waste. Some are easy to spot out like these you mentioned. Thanks again for being a Watchman and another Awesome video How do you stay "off the radar" and trust the black market at the same time...

At the 9:40 mark, where you have them side by side….there is the color variation, but also the fake appears slightly thicker. Would have been interesting to see a size measurement via a caliper as copper rounds should be slightly thicker to make up the weight difference.
This is another reason I refuse to pay the ridiculous premiums on ASEs. TBH, in a barter situation I would be more wary of someone using ASEs than other types of coins (though obviously you always need to be on alert for fakes with anything). The U.S. mint needs to wake up and start putting some real security features on ASEs. A tiny notch in the rim is NOT a security feature!
@@dennisdragomir7572 Forget the dimes! On a huge silver estate buy, I wound up with $2000 face in fake dimes! They looked like brilliant uncirculated Mercury's, but 3/4 of them were magnetic. The rest failed ping, weight, slide, and Sigma.
Good point , me I would say half my stack is junk world silver ,I get most of it close to spot, it's almost guaranteed not to be counterfeit....but stacker UA-cam channels say don't buy world junk silver ,but I think that's the best thing to load up on, ...for a SHTF scenario....people aren't going to be paying high premiums if they are selling ammo or bread for a few ounces, I'll hand them a handful of schillings and call it a day.... fractional silver is going to be more barterable then ASEs...
I got 10 of these things a couple of years ago. Really difficult to tell they are fake. The measurment was not exactly right and the weight was not right when compared to real coins. Reported to my credit card which was a waste of time. Eventually just dumped in the trash.
I bought two of these coins, deliberately, from a guy that was unlucky enough to have bought 10 at spot from someone out of state. He was selling them as counterfeit for $15 each and I wanted to compare them to my genuine eagles. While they are extremely good, my wife immediately noted that when you look at one side by side with a genuine (you can even see this difference in this video) it is instantly evident that all the narrow lines and details are visibly heavier on the fake. I'm just guessing, but I bet the folks minting these created the coin dies using genuine coins. So when they strike a counterfeit the coin is perfect. But in plating it they add just enough material to make all those sharp and highly detailed features just a tiny bit too heavy. You'd never see it without a genuine coin to compare them to unless you have a truly trained eye. BTW, they fail completely in the ping test. Still lots and lots of them out there.
There is a mild bit of irony to having a video coming out today about fake coins. I had gone to a local coin shop today to pick up some junk silver and when I got home I found a 2007 quarter mixed in. I'm not saying that the shop did it, or even that it was sold to them intentionally like that. Just always have to be on the lookout.
Considering that most of us don't have the Verifier PRO, is there an amateur friendly priced version? Of course, I have zero clue what they cost. So, if it's not a semi-secret, could you share your price with us? Maybe a product link?!? Thanks SD. Oh, I got my last two silver pieces of yours in the mail today!! Thanks so much for the coins, rounds and pours and of course the videos!!!
I only buy from a reputable dealer, but am concerned with the tests this coin passed. How was the size? How could they get the exact weight and size while still passing the magnet test? Some heavy-duty engineering going into these.
A couple of fakes even got past my LCS. A precious metals analyzer has become essential. Maybe a few friends can pool their money, buy one then share it.
make sure its a late model XRF.. Even still, it can't go through real deep plating. Charge back and use them AS crap for thieves... In your honeypot safe
@@tgabe6163 Drop one known silver coin onto the coin you're testing. The pure silver causes the ping to last longer. Piiiiiiing. If the test object is a different material, or bimetallic, it damps the vibrations and causes the sound to stop sooner. P'ng. If I'm remembering correctly, the different material should have a different tone. Get 2 pure silver coins and a plain old quarter. Clink them together and you'll hear the difference immediately.
@@tgabe6163 Most materials have a characteristic sound when rubbed or tapped without damaging the object. This can be done for crystal glass, gold and here for silver. Weight, size and using a magnet are normal methods to use as well. Some silver plated fakes can be very convincing at least to me! One dealer I buy from guarantees his coins are genuine for ten years.
OMG! Do you remember those ASE coin verifiers? It's a plastic card with a counter weight? So the ASE would meet the anti-magnetism, circumference, the girth, and balance at the correct weight. BUT THIS APPEARS TO MEET ALL 3 SPECIFICATIONS?
On your first example website it stated a $600 cap on the orders. I think I know why. It's based upon the customs declaration forms and import tariffs.
I purchase a lot of silver online and I've seen plenty of 2023 ASE counterfeits with the missing reed security feature. None of them have fooled my Sigma Metalytics tester, though. Never had an issue with getting a refund and most of the time I keep the counterfeit coins to show and warn friends and family.
I bought some fakes last year. I tried to contact the supplier/distributer here in the U.S. with no luck. I contacted the secret service office in Oklahoma City. They didnt care. I disputed the credit card charge with my credit card. They refunded the money and reversed the charges to the supplier.

Yes , and take your time to look for " silver plated " or " copy". I know that's really obvious , but they deliberately omit it from the title, then stick it into the description. However in such cases you will be given a refund by Ebay because they should have made it absolutely clear in the title that it's not real.
I first encountered fakes on Facebook before COVID. Alarm bells and red flags were issued forth because of the expense per coin and free shipping. I researched these companies finding them to originate in China. I complained to FB but their algorithms inundated me with more companies selling the same fake products. They also changed their tune to add the word commemorative to Silver Eagles and Morgan and Peace dollars, then tried to sell Gold coins the same way. It took me deleting and blocking these sites before FB wised up. I did purchase some fake "commemoratives deliberately to serve as decoys, should my house get broken into. I won't buy from any Chinese manufacturer including Alibaba or on Amazon, Etsy, or eBay. I purchase from reputable coin and bullion dealers or my local coin shop only just as your video recommends.
Good morning all. I am a collector of world used coins. I've been collecting since I was 5 years old. I'm also a prepper. In these days, I would not buy new coins for bartering should the need arise. I put just one box in my wife's hands and warned her to be prepared for the weight. She works for a large shopping outlet and she exchanges the silver coins for today's currency. Stay vigilant all. Great vid.
Also always watch out for National collector's mint got me when I was first starting out for some supposedly gold coins started watching stacking channels like this and learned I was getting ripped off luckily that was several years ago
What metal is it if not silver? If the sizes are identical and the weight is identical, I don't understand how it can be copper since copper is not as dense as silver.
Facebook and Instagramhave had ads for these on and off for ages but just lately it’s gotten worse. I’m pretty sure that paying $15AUD per ounce is a dead set giveaway.
Is the FBI or Treasury Department not cracking down on this counter fitting of American currency? Thanks for the heads up, hopefully you’ll reach enough people to not make it worthwhile to continue producing these fakes.
Thanks for sharing Silver Dragons appreciate your time and the warning. The U also is a great fake identifier if it doesn’t have a tail it’s fake hope you have a great day Best wishes
I report this to ebay all the time and not only do they do nothing about it but they PROMOTE the listings. Many of the sellers have a rake of negative feedback and complaints but still ebay don't care. These coins are not just worthless but worse than that - it's a felony to counterfeit US currency and also to use it or sell it on
So glad to see you added ebay to your video. I noticed these awhile ago and even reached out to another you tuber to no avail. Never bought any, but I am sure alot of people have. There are multiple sites, all with very few or 0 feedback and almost all shipping from far east. Kudos!!
About a year ago I ordered 2 off Amazon paid around $19.99 each and when I called Amazon on it they told me there was nothing they could do since the third party seller had a disclaimer saying all sales are final.
This is just more than simple counterfeit goods from China. This is an official US Mint coin from the United States of America. Just like they were selling fake currency.
I would have loved to see a ping test using a phone app to see if they sound right, and also possible a dimensions test. Do you think you could follow up with that or reply with how those tested out?
Silver is roughly 15% more dense than copper. Both coins weighed the same and had the same diameter. Is the thickness the same? Just curious. Thanks for the video.
Looking at the video, it appears to be slightly thicker, with a slightly wider rim, and as others pointed out some of the features, like the sun rays are thicker. I think the scammers are using CAD software to predict volumetric weight and make adjustments to the die, so their fakes end up with the correct weights.
I think AliExpress are in the clear, because they're selling at just a couple of dollars & very clearly saying these coins are a toy. It's the people fraudulently buying them up & selling them on as genuine, who are the fraudsters. To me, the lettering in the word "LIBERTY" is very obviously much thinner than the genuine article.

But first show it in a ping test, and with a simple phone app ping test please!!
Impressive counterfeiting, but the American mints need to do more security features than a missing reed.
Damn. Fakes are getting good. The eagle really needs some better security features.
Agreed, and considering that it's the U.S. Mint, one would expect them to have better features than a pathetic indentation on the rim.
@@Evom777
The silver Maple and Britannia both have a brilliant added feature; the US hasn't ever really cared deeply about counterfeiters.
To bad China pays F J B to ignore currency and mint forgeries!!
I bought a fake on purpose to use for a desk decoration at work. I always get compliments on the piece and encourage the handling of the coin. I find it’s a great tool/conversation starter to talking about precious metals. To this day 3 fellow employees are now interested in getting into stacking.
Might not want to advertise this. I believe possession of counterfeits is illegal. (not a lawyer). Even if your reasoning is good I remember a story of someone who collected counterfeits for educational purposes and they were confiscated by treasury agents.
Wow that fake was really good but it sure looked funky. You forgot to do the ping test on it as well.
They dont only come from CHina.. stop projecting your evil thoughtts on others: countries with most fake stuffs. 90% of stuffs you buy in America is fake
Thanks for putting this out there.
Thank you for this valuable information, I had no idea this was going on. Thanks please keep up the good work.
There are a lot on eBay. Obvious signs are a lot lower than everyone else. And biggest red flag is it ships from China or Hong Kong.
Or Cali- especially San Fran. Stay vigilant!
Where is the Secret Service in all of this? Isn't policing counterfeit currency part of their jobs?
Thanks Silver 🐉
Scammers NEVERr let a crisis go to waste. Some are easy to spot out like these you mentioned. Thanks again for being a Watchman and another Awesome video
How do you stay "off the radar" and trust the black market at the same time...
Buy a Sigma. 😉
@@Evom777 ,
Lets go halves...LOL
Please do ping test, ice test, gravity, tarnish it and whatever else you got to throw at it. Its killing me!!
First time commenting on any video in my life. I'm just so intrigued. Thanks silver dragons.
Another reason to buy silver maples or Britannias which have good security features.
A tiny notch in the rim is NOT a security feature!
buy silver dimes
Wow I cant believe it passed the weight and magnetic tests
How is it possible to pass the weight and magnetic test both?

I wish you could've done the PING TEST SD??
Multiple metals in the right amounts with silver plating could do it, as long as they don't have iron in them.
A couple of fakes even got past my LCS. A precious metals analyzer has become essential. Maybe a few friends can pool their money, buy one then share it.
@@iamgabriel5823 take them to a dealer for xrf. Warning!! I went to a coin show in Roseville MN and they guy could not operate the old xrf dog he had

What?!? No ping test? How do the coins sound?
Should have done a ping test while you were at it. That is the one that most people will use.
What is a ping test?
the ones I purchased failed the ping test. Failed using the Coin Tester app.
Where can I find ping tester in Europ???
Also SD, I think your son (regardless of age) could make a BETTER website than what those examples were.
Even if the price is not too good to be true you can still end up with a fake. I am paranoid about this.
I saw that add in FB and I almost bought 30 pcs I’m glad I stick to my guts that the prices are too good to be true 😢
I just started to collect silver, bought my 1st 10oz bar, I appreciate this video! Thanks 👍
I do not buy from from adds. It’s tempting sometimes but not worth it. SD bullion or coin shop. Thanks Silver Dragons!
Thanks for info!
If you are buying "plenty of 2023 ASE counterfeits", sounds like you need to be more careful where you are buying from.
Why would you gamble your money like that? There are so many trusted sources out there .. doesn't make any sense to me

The Sigma has become essential for me. It bought me some peace of mind.

I bought some fakes last year. I tried to contact the supplier/distributer here in the U.S. with no luck. I contacted the secret service office in Oklahoma City. They didnt care. I disputed the credit card charge with my credit card. They refunded the money and reversed the charges to the supplier.

Would PayPal reimburse people who got them? I wonder why they would use Paypal.
I'm guessing most people don't have one of the machines to test the metals so could you please do a ping tests on it?
How much would a coin shop charge to run a collection across one of those verifiers?
eBay is still a good place to buy silver coins, there are some honest sellers. But just be careful!
Yes , and take your time to look for " silver plated " or " copy".
I know that's really obvious , but they deliberately omit it from the title, then stick it into the description.
However in such cases you will be given a refund by Ebay because they should have made it absolutely clear in the title that it's not real.
Yep, all the 'big guys' sell on there too. Stick with the major 'known' PM sellers and Ebay is fine.....

Great vid.
Also always watch out for National collector's mint got me when I was first starting out for some supposedly gold coins started watching stacking channels like this and learned I was getting ripped off luckily that was several years ago
What does it sound like on the ping test?
Always shop from a reputable dealer. Beware of things that are too good to be true. Do your due diligence before laying your hard earned money down.
What metal is it if not silver?
If the sizes are identical and the weight is identical, I don't understand how it can be copper since copper is not as dense as silver.
how do fake coins like this do on the ping test?
Facebook and Instagramhave had ads for these on and off for ages but just lately it’s gotten worse. I’m pretty sure that paying $15AUD per ounce is a dead set giveaway.
I wish you did a ping test as well on it
The round plastic capsules need to popped open with hot water to prevent leaving marks on the plastic.
I got a lot of good silver from eBay but I always check the seller.
100%!!
I was looking for the security mark, what years did they start that? My 2014 coins don't have it. But my 1991 doesent either?
Is the FBI or Treasury Department not cracking down on this counter fitting of American currency? Thanks for the heads up, hopefully you’ll reach enough people to not make it worthwhile to continue producing these fakes.
Why would they they want you to use Fiat
its not currency. its a token.
China loves to make fake products. No ethics. They love to scam Americans. FBI has its own in house major corruption issues.
My buddy just fell for this scam. He got his off of Facebook. 🤦♂️
Thanks for sharing Silver Dragons appreciate your time and the warning. The U also is a great fake identifier if it doesn’t have a tail it’s fake hope you have a great day

That is only accurate on 2021 Type 1 ASE's and older. All type 2's don't have a tail on the U.
Kudos!!
thanks for posting this, good job.
About a year ago I ordered 2 off Amazon paid around $19.99 each and when I called Amazon on it they told me there was nothing they could do since the third party seller had a disclaimer saying all sales are final.
FBI. Get the seller in federal prison for life.
This is just more than simple counterfeit goods from China. This is an official US Mint coin from the United States of America. Just like they were selling fake currency.
Isn’t selling fake legal tender coins a very serious crime. Even in China!
What about the ping test?
Why is our government letting this happen? Must not be enough kick back's for the big (little) guy in charge.
Why have they let 12 million people invade the country in the last 3 years.
Isn't that counterfitting? And like an act of war or something? Aliexpress seems to be in trouble with this one
Consider all the laws that are being broken (and not prosecuted) under Biden.
_Do you really think he'll hold his friends in China accountable?_
Nope, North Korea has been counterfeiting US paper currency for decades.
Bidens just got 10 million from hedge funds in China. forget it
I had a friend who bought a fake Morgan dollar at a flea market in Florida. He knows I collect coins and was happy to bring it back to Canada as a gift for me. I never have had the heart to tell him it is fake.
