It isn't often an actor gets a full career reboot from a single movie. But that's what "Halloween" did for the late Donald Pleasance. Christopher Lee was also offered the role of Dr. Loomis and said that turning it down was one of his biggest career mistakes.
One reason the nurse might roll her window down is she'd only worked at minimum security facilities where she'd mostly dealt with compliant patients. She'd asked Dr. Loomis if he was serious about needing Thorazine to sedate michael. Which shows she didn't feel any danger.
Fun Fact: When he was living in Pasadena, Robert Englunds roommate had a gig picking up painted leaves at various sites where Halloween was being filmed.
The roommate asked Englund if he would like a couple of days' work. Englund said, "Sure!", and that's how we got two iconic baddies on the same set!
The future Freddy Krueger was a leaf wrangler on Halloween - how totally cool is that?
You should definitely do Halloween 2 next!! It picks up right where this one left off
The ending to John Carpenter's Halloween is never matched, never topped.
You should definitely do Halloween 2 (It's Halloween season year round!) Also, I believe the story of that dog 'death' was that the dog was actually super nice and they filmed a slow motion hug.
This is my favorite slasher/ horror of all.
Yes!! You watched my all-time favorite horror movie! It's an absolute classic, and I love it for so many reasons: characters you actually care about, fantastic performances from Donald Pleasance and newcomer Jamie Lee Curtis, reliance on suspense and fright instead of blood and gore, the iconic music, and the fear that Michael could be anywhere, at any time.
In my humble opinion, here are the other movies worth watching:
* Halloween II - picks up right where this movie left off. Not as good as the original, but definitely worth watching.
* Halloween H20 - best captures the spirit of the original, with the return of Jamie Lee Curtis and a great cast.
* The most recent Halloween, Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends trilogy. They ignore all previous movies except the original, and star Jamie Lee Curtis.
You take your chances with any of the others, which range from so-so to meh to insultingly horrendous (Resurrection).
Great reactions!! You are a delight! 😊 🎃
Now you gotta check out Halloween II (1981). It continues on the same night, right after this one. This is one of the greatest films of all time, it's in the congressional library's film registry board. It's a list of films deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant to American pop culture" that are recommended for preservation by those holding the best elements for that film, be it motion picture studios, the Library of Congress and other archives, or filmmakers. Around 875 films on that list, out of millions made.
Carpenter wrote Myers to be the actual boogeyman. He said he's a human, but he has a supernatural edge. He was only gonna do this one film, and the ending was supposed to scare people as it implies that you can't kill the boogeyman, with them showing all the places he's been in the movie, and his breathing getting heavier. It suggests that he can be everywhere, and nowhere. Another fun fact is that the movie cost $325,000, half of it went to the camera and lenses
fun fact: the movie was shot in the spring time and there were no halloween costumes or masks around. But a mask of captain kirk, (a cast of William Shatner's face) was found at a local hardware store. They originally were going to use a clown mask but felt as though it wasn't scary enough so they took the Shatner mask, cut eye holes, redid the hair and spray painted it white and boom, Michael Myers was born.
Another fun fact: after the filming and success of Halloween, the mask was given to one of the producers Debra Hill. She kept the mask under her bed for the next 3 years in which it would be used again for Halloween 2. however, Debra was a heavy smoker and as a result, the mask which made of latex, eventually started to rot and become discolored heavily. Dick Warlock, the actor who plays Michael in H2 wasn't as skinny as Nick Castle. His head shape completely changed the shape and overall expression of the mask giving it a more menacing look
@@Dee1nOnly92 I was gonna wait until she got to part 2 to hit her up with part 2 facts. OK. lol
@@punkem733 lol well nothing was spoiled as far as plot plus there are many more facts i didn't mention
Great reaction.
So, a bit of explanation about the film and script:
The killer is not human; he is literally the Boogeyman - which is why he can seem to appear and disappear at will and seems to only be seen by certain people at certain times. It is also why he is so strong and why he can't be killed. Tommy even says, "you can't kill the Boogeyman." The original script for the film was written as the killer being a supernatural personification of evil, a force of nature. In the original script he is not referred to as Michael Myers, he is referred to as "The Shape." The boy Michael Myers, and later the adult Michael Myers, is basically just a human skinsuit for the Boogeyman. This supernatural interpretation of the original film (along with it's amazing musical score) is why it is so effective - there is no real reason or motive for The Shape, it is just a force for evil that can be anywhere - hence the montage sequence at the end of the film and the shots of all the places The Shape has been while you hear The Shape breathing at the end on the soundtrack.
The subsequent films, including Halloween 2, immediately went off the rails and are far inferior films, because they made the mistake of "explaining" the killer. They gave the killer a lame backstory that completely diminishes the supernatural intent of the first film and turns the killer back from the supernatural Boogeyman into just the man Michael Myers. The subsequent films are also far inferior in terms of writing, directing, cinematography, and pretty much everything else.
Anyway, the only Halloween sequel that I recommend watching is Halloween III - by virtue of the fact that is has nothing to do with the other films and is basically a stand-alone film. It was hated at the time because of the fact that it didn't have anything to do with the other films, but now is much more loved because it is a great Halloween season film in its own right and a fun watch.
Jump scares must be earned. Jump scares by themselves are not scary. What makes Halloween and The Thing a masterclass, he's the Carpenter of building tension and suspense and when it hits fever pitch, boom and very often you don't expect it like The Thing the defibrillator scene and the bloodtest scene, 1st time watching you do not see it coming and its truly startling when it comes.
Originally the title was "The Babysitter Murders" but with a scheduled release of October it was changed... It was filmed in Pasadena CA there are palm trees in some shots in background. Leaves had to be painted to resemble fall colors and reused to save money. Great reaction and comments ❤
Great reaction. Nice to see somone giving this classic masterpiece the praise it deserves.
@19:47ish..... "OMG! Just shut up with the Boogie Man!" =X-D =X-D =X-D Hilarious!!!
The main reason Dr Loomis tells Sheriff to keep mouths shut and eyes open is to prevent false reporting. Once the actual horror begins, they can go straight to Michael. I get it, its something few people understand but often when an APB posted publicly, everybody becomes suspect and call the cops making them scatter while Michael continues.
... which is exactly what happens in H2.
I'd love for you to do halloween 2. 4 and h20 and maybe halloween 2018 as well. I think you'd enjoy those quite a lot. They're all really fun
They all take place in three different timelines. Would that be confusing for her?
@@Progger11 it's confusing for everyone tbh but im sure she'll realise that things have been retconned along the way
I was 9 when this came out. Too young to see it, but everyone was saying it was the scariest movie...EVER!!!
I saw it with my mom 2yrs later. Slasher movies were nothing new (PSYCHO, TEXAS CHAINSAW, BLACK CHRISTMAS to name a few) but Carpenter came up with the simple (yet BRILLIANT) idea of a killer that wasn't human and couldn't be killed. Every time Michael got back up my mom was like "...WHAT!! what the HELL!!" It's become cliche now, but then it was original and so damn effective!!!🎃
That crane shot of Michael and his parents in the beginning was intentional, according to cinematographer Dean Cundey.
Thanks - I always loved that shot! Now I'm going to try to Google the info!
John Carpenter said that the look on Loomis' face was his way saying I knew this would happen,
Yess posting Halloween on Halloween is awesome of you! :D
This movie does such a good job with very little - and they really had very little in terms of budget, and shooting a movie about a midwest Halloween in California in April. You hardly see any blood or gore, but Carpenter does a great job of just ratcheting up the tension, with few jump-scares, so you're never really let off.
The sequel Halloween 2 (1980) isn't too bad, it takes place directly after this one ends, Carpenter wasn't involved at all. I also liked the 2018 one, but all of the rest (including the sequels to 2018) leave a lot to be desired. Maybe Halloween 2 next year? :)
Btw just wanted to say I noticed you've gone without glasses the last few reactions, and either look works well for you!
Thank you so much!!! I’m glad you enjoyed :) I’m excited to watch Halloween 2
@hellomark,
Actually, John Carpenter did write the script for Halloween 2, but hated the process and was drunk the entire time.
The only reason I bothered with the 2018 version was of the rumor that Nick Castle was reprising Micheal....imagine my disappointment (😉)... but I was pleased to see Charles Cyphers - a fan favorite of mine - back as Sheriff Leigh Brackett. 🫠
Just so you know…. The Halloween series has 4 different storylines.
1. H1 and H2
2. H1, H2, H4, H5, H6
3. H1, H2, H H20, H Resurrection
4. H1, H 2018, H Kills, H Ends
The Halloween series originally meant to be a anthology which is why Halloween 3 is a different story. But when H3 was released they realized people wanted more Michael Myers.
Also it’s 2 complete remakes by a director named Rob Zombie who came out with H 2007 and H2 2009.
Was watching this with my gf last year. I was looking on imdb if anyone else besides Jamie Lee Curtis ended up with an acting career. My gf saw the name of the girl that played Lindsey, Kyle Richards and said he became known on a show Real Beverly Hills wives or something.
Laurie sends the kids out alone because she knows with a broken (sprained?) ankle and her other injuries from being attacked, that she would never be able to keep up with them.
Also, Tommy might refuse to leave her side if she tried to limp out of the house, putting them both in greivious danger.
Nothing can stop Michael Mayers.. I think there are 13:th films.. So you have a lot to do.. :) Number two are a masterpiece..
My all time favorite movie. And John Carpenter’s the thing is actually a remake of the one playing on the tv. His didn’t come out till after Halloween
That was a fun reaction. Can´t wait for Halloween 2 :D
Halloween is one of the greatest movies ever made.
I love this film. Michael Myers is my favorite horror genre character.
That mug is awesome! Where did you get it?
"There's like, 6 movies out." More like 13! lmao You have a LONG way to go! But anyway, I LOVE it when younger people react to this movie! It's been one of my FAVORITES for like 40 years! I especially love it when the react to my FAVORITE scene! The head tilt after pinning Bob to the cabinet! It's Michael's signature move!
awesome reaction!!...classic movie!!
Classic movie
Better than most movies today
Way better.
I cant wait for you to get to the 2018 time line
• Michael was sewing needled in the neck
• Coat hanger to the left eye
• Knife in the chest likely heart
• Loomis shot him 6 times with a Smith & Wesson Model 15 .38 Special at a 10 foot range in the chest falling off a 2 story balcony
Most people would be dead though there is an extremely slim chance one can survive, we know that when Loomis looks down to see he's gone, he's not remotely surprised, this confirms everything he said about Michael not being a human being, he IS the boogeyman.
I love this movie. The only thing that has always intrigued me, is when Michael’s parents just stare at him for several seconds and no more dialogue until the scene change.
Like Kayly said, it was a stylistic choice, and one that I always enjoyed... maybe it reminded me of the Greek Chorus type of thing...
American Made: It's an unbelievable true story and Tom Cruise actually flew the planes.
That’s crazy that this was recommended then I see your story on insta
The best horror of all time
In a way you’re right Loomis does miss some things, but he’s a doctor not a detective.
There are a few things I would change with the climax if I could, mainly not allowing her to drop the knife for the second time, but there is a good reason for her hiding in the closet. She opened up the doors to the balcony, hoping he would think she had leapt off and run away. I mean, for having no time to think, that was a pretty good idea. Why didn't she actually do that? Because she was not going to leave him in the house with two children, she was trying to get him to go outside looking for her. I mention this, because people are always pointing out the dumb things characters do in horror movies, but this wasn't one of them. Dropping the knife, however, was.
“How is he on the school grounds right now?” Welcome to 1978 where schools had no security and literally anyone could just walk in.
Halloween 2 and H20 are solid. Where as the new reboot Halloween 2018 and Halloween kills are worth the watch. Halloween ends was a let down to say the least.
Other than Halloween you definitely should check out John carpenter’s other films!
Love that Michael Myers mug you forget this was in the 70/80s no one questioned you being near a school lol but this movie really is a iconic slasher especially with that battle between Michael and Laurie really awesome reaction as usual keep up the awesome watches
Sometimes I think these movies were so scary as a kid because we weren't allowed to watch them. So our own imagination based on the little that we knew made the whole thing terrifying.
Once you see it it's not that bad.
Except for the Exorcist. Makes me physically ill in a gross way.
Love your reactions! Awesome sweatshirt/shirt too
thank you so much!!! 😃
Halloween IS the ultimate slasher horror film🎃
Cop: It was probably just some kids. All they took was a serial killer's murder kit. Also, my keen deductive reasoning tells me that you've been cleaning the car because it smells so fresh and clean. On a completely unrelated note, hey Doc, what did you say that car the murderer took looks like again?
That wasnt John Carpenter's The Thing (1982), its one of his favorites The Thing From Another World from 1951. John remade it but didn't remake the movie instead adapting and revising a better story with the short Story Who Goes There?! Which is in Antarctica with an imitating Alien.
Awesome 🧟. An annual watch for me. Another great reaction. 🎃 Happy Kayloween. Look forward to what's to come.
Oh my gosh, I love Happy Kayloween, haha!!! I hope you enjoyed yours. Thanks so much for watching 😊
Hope you get to John carpenters Halloween 2 in the next reaction
That breathing... its kind of done in Halloween 2, but after that it never sounds like that.
Great reaction to another great Halloween classic! 🎃
This is another movie that's a must watch for me every spooky season.
For next Halloween, I very highly recommend the "Scream" movies if you haven't seen any of them yet. Also, "Lights Out", "Unfriended", "Night of the Comet", and "The Last Exorcism".
Have a fun Halloween!!! 🎃👻
Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
You should do Halloween 2018 after this 👍🏾 + ur a really good reactor u deserve more subs & likes 😊🙏🏾
I truly recommend you do not watch any other Halloween. This ending is never matched let alone topped. The lack of closure in John Carpenter's Halloween is so much scarier and when you're in the dark you can swear he is watching you.
Hello you look beautiful first off another good reaction video to a classic movie… have a fun evening Happy Halloween 🎃
Aww thank you!!! I’m so glad you enjoyed. Happy Halloween to you 🎃😊
Great reaction! I hope you check out the other Halloween movies. Most of them are pretty good, though a couple of them are not so great. I've seen most of them and own the entire series on Blu-Ray, most of them are from Scream Factory, so they are in great condition. I would say that, aside from the original by John Carpenter, the other good ones in the series are Halloween II, Halloween 4, Halloween 6 (Producer's Cut), Blumhouse's Halloween 2018, and Blumhouse's Halloween Kills. I tried watching Rob Zombie's infamous remake and there is a reason it is so infamous because it is really badly made, at least in terms of the Theatrical Cut, haven't seen the extended cut or the sequel, yet. Also, I need to watch H20 and Resurrection, but I want to get the Scream Factory editions of them, and that boxed set is about 80 bucks on Amazon...
Also, if you like Halloween, here's some other slasher franchises to check out:
- Scream
- A Nightmare on Elm Street
- Friday the 13th
- Candyman
- Hellraiser
- My Bloody Valentine
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre
- Psycho
- Happy Death Day
You should watch Black Christmas (providing you haven't already.
Another great John Carpenter film is, 'Big Trouble In Little China', it's do weird; I love it!👍
