I don't play any acoustic instruments, but this video opens up new ideas about how the modules work together outside of an electronic mindset. Glad I saw this one.
I'd like to see a video with a prominent virtuoso experimental guitar player - perhaps Fred Frith - playing a rig like this. The idea being, Mr. Frith is a very experienced experimental player who is comfortable creating in new sonic situations. We'd all learn something...
So many guitars with modulars in recent videos around the Globe. Must be spring :). Some of these textures are magical. Did you plug the guitar directly into the Morph?
Nice video! Not sure if it’s possible, but any chance you guys will add a way to do true SOS looping on morph or mimeo? (without the gradual fade out of previous loops)
If you have a clock, you can patch a clock into the 'clk' input and use a 'rec on/off' trigger to sync the recording. Keep the morph in the 'green' zone and you have a true SOS looper that puts layer on layer without fading out. Works best with a tight gate sequencer.
@@CinematicLaboratory Hey, thanks for the reply. The problem I'm having is because of the SOS knob. The only way to record previous loops at 100% volume is to have SOS set full clock-wise, which sets the incoming audio to 0%. The closest I've been able to come to true SOS looping is to set the SOS knob to right before the incoming audio hits 0% (around 4 o'clock). However, the previous loops will still fade out (though very slowly) and the incoming audio will be really quiet. It helps a bit to set the gain staging to +12db, but it's still not ideal.
What setting is changed to have the morphagene consistently loop with record on? When I record on my morphagene I only hear the sound when I finish record and select the new slice
If you mean recording into the current Splice instead of creating a new one? By default this happens when you just press REC, and recording into a new Splice is REC+SPLICE. If you go to options.txt and set rsop to 1, you can reverse this so that recording to new splices can be done via gates to the REC input.
@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC ah, okay I forgot I had switched the rsop option to 1 a long time ago and totally forgot it was possible to record over the current splice. Time to refresh my knowledge and read through the manual again haha!
As ever the mad scientist ;-) I keep trying to get my friend to bring over her Mandolin for this exact reason. I do have an electro-acoustic that I can't play worth a damn, but it could still be a rich sound source obvi. I need a cheap Fender or Gibson knockoff. Actually, I'd like to see a bass guitar vid.
I've been playing with bass guitar processing in software and modular recently. Pitch tracking adds a lot (Jam Origin MIDI Bass works nicely, then convert MIDI to CC... latency isn't bad at all for ambient noodling). E.g. Mimeophon in zone 0 with pitch CV into the u input...
I really hope Make Noise/Tom Erbe develop a new version of the Morphagene on their new DSP platform. Less background noise, with all settings on the panel instead of the tedious use of an options text file, input gain knob, etc.
I’ve heard vcv rack is a good alternative to test the waters . I’ve not gone down the vcv rabbit hole because up until recently my computer was way too old to handle that type of thing …, and I dove into modular hardware and am too engrossed in that instead of clicking a mouse on a screen. I wouldn’t say it’s upper class ( I’m not… I’m the son of a mailman. For the the last 17 years I’ve been a plumber however with a bachelors degree in fine art / sculpture) but it does come at a cost. Best advice is taking it slow & learn as much before buying (easier said than done) and learn the crap out of it before adding to the mix
@@kenschestok9515 There’s a lot to be said for the less-is-more approach, especially with modular … the 3 module challenge is a key example, and lately I had been having a lot of fun with a limited case (48hp) and squeezing out as much as I can with just a few modules … having a modulator like an Øchd really helps move things around within a limited case 🙂👍🏼
@@aeropilot4419 absolutely! A lot can be done with 3 modules. Ochd is wonderful even unpatched just watching the lights change colors as it “breathes. To keep it make noise themed I love my wogglebug
I can't afford hardware modular either, so would also recommend VCV Rack. Most of my channel is modular guitar FX with VCV and free/cheap plugins, you just need a midrange computer and basic interface. There's even a sampler in VCV that loads Morphagene reels. I just watch videos on the real thing for inspiration 😉
Thanks for opening up the possibilities with guitar and Mor/Mim combo. As a guitarist, we need more vids incorporating guitar in eurorack.
Thanks for watching!!

Love it Walker!! I can sit back and enjoy your experimentations with a smile and peace in my heart.
That's great to hear!!
Cool to see all the toys coming out to play
Thanx Walker !
Thanks Bill!
Figured Walker would have a Jag-Stang
Is that the guitar that says "my interest in guitars peaked in the late 90s?"
Really enjoyed this video!
Very cool!!
Thanks!
Beautiful Walker!
Thank you!

Yes that would be really cool!
thanks for this!
Take that Chase Bliss Habit launch 😂 it's nice to see guitars getting mangled in stereo. Needs moar fuzz and feedback.
Nice thanks, I use a Strymon AA.1 interface.
Thanks for watching!

Directly in, yes! Input gain at max. A preamp first would probably make a rounder cleaner sound though 🎶
Nice ! Just want to add that Maths makes a hell of a guitar tremolo when patched to a VCA !
Great idea!! Gonna go try it now 🎶

@@wiiill Now I understand what you mean. It indeed is a challenge and I have no idea how to fix that.
Kinda sounds like
OOIOO
a Japanese experimental band
Great stuff as always
High praise! I’m a fan
guitar plugged straight into morph?
In this case yes - a preamp might make a rounder cleaner sound but I wanted to keep it as simple as possible for the video
Someone needs to give Bill Frisell this skiff 😯

GOD I HATE BEING POOR....! rack synths is very much a upper-class privilege
