Sir I work as a PET radiographer in Hong Kong. I’m so glad I encounter your video, gonna do so revision on radiobiology

If you view the videos from the Health Physics Society on UA-cam regarding the origins of Linear-No Threshold (LNT) you'll get the entire story of the 'differences' in low level radiation affects.

Thanks for sharing that resource. The LNT model is always hotly debated on the diagnostic medical physics listserves

    Dear doctor,
A year ago I had a abdomen and pelvis CT scan that was actually done in a situation where it wasn't required, never the less that resulted in DLP value of 3407 mGy/cm so calculated dose is 51-61mSv depending on the absorption factor used but not less, scan took one breath to perform. I live in Poland/Europe I did not found any exact numbers in any guidelines I also think that there aren't any. This value comes from my CT 660 optima scanner result I've received and it's the "total DLP value", So my judgement is that this was a high dose right? Therefore I have a significant increase in cancer incidence am I right?

I had a CT head scan without contrast recently after the hospital convinced me since I had head pain for 4 months but it came out clear. My head pain stopped but weirdly right after the CT scan I had a weird sensation in my neck. Now 2 months after the CT scan I have pain that won't go away in my neck. I'm really scared and afraid. I don't know what to do anymore without people labeling me crazy or paranoid for thinking it's tied to the CT scan :(

Hi Samuel thanks for doing your research here and otherwhere about the radiation risks at the diagnostic level. As you have seen cancer risk is very low after a CT scan and would take many years for any symptoms to occur. The good news is that you do not need to be afraid that your recent neck pain is due to a recent CT scan. I know that it is hard to believe because these events happened so close together that it seems like one must have caused the other. I wish you the best in finding the root cause of your neck pain.

    Hi Sir
Can radiation therapy following keloid excision on back of ear cause carcinogenesis?
machine used was electron beam radiation with LINAC
    6mev 18gy/3 fr 3 days
    thanks

In general any radiation can induce cancer later in life. The treatment is planned where the benefits of the treatment should outweigh the potential risk of cancer induction later in life.

My 21 month old child get 3 chest X-ray images , 2 pa view and 1 lateral view. How much is the risk?? Please answer.. I am really depressed.

Hi love, sorry I don’t comment on individual medical questions and individual radiation dose questions. Please ask the hospital and they can put you in contact with a medical physicist on-site if needed. My son got several x-rays while he was in the NICU as a newborn and I can appreciate that you want to look into it but this is a very low risk.

So if a CT scan for the abdomen is 8 Sv then the risk for the patient getting this scan is 32% based on. a 4% increase per Sievert.? that's incredibly high if this is the case!

    • @HowRadiologyWorks
      @HowRadiologyWorks  Рік тому

Doses for medical equipment are usually reported in mSv, 0.001 Sv

    • @HowRadiologyWorks
      @HowRadiologyWorks  Рік тому

So if the number is 8mSv you would divide by 1000, and there is also debate if the effects are linear at these low medical doses

CT Scan is very detrimental to one's health, both immediate and future health problem

@@HowRadiologyWorks CT Scan is worse than getting radiation naturally (all at once rather than over years)?
Radiation from x-ray photon energy is not cumulative, the damage is.
Natural Background Radiation is average if 1.5 - 3 mGy per year. Divide that by 365 days then the by 24 hours.
That is radiation dose that does not penetrate your body.
1 CT scan of the chest and Deposits directly inside your body over 1000 mGy in 15 seconds.
I leave the calculations and decision making to you.
Now how do we know the dose?
Average radiation dose is measured and calculated by the CT scanner based on having a pencil type Geiger counter in a centre of a phantom.
based on that measurement the CT Scanner calculates the dose length product which is the total dose went inside the patient, for example from top of the brain to the end of the cerebellum.
that dose is recorded automatically in the patient file. And in some places with no conflict of interest like ours the total dose is displayed on the digital image or printed on the film.
I call it deposited because that’s the real dose that reached the centre of the body part exposed.
Google average DLP in Australia from the ARPANSA website.
And next time you get a CT scan ask the Radiographer or Technologist, what was the DLP you received. It is your right to know.
I have seen on the CT scanner, some patients receiving over 1.5 Gy in a single CT scan of the brain.
there are many beneficiaries who will try anything to lure patients and hide the truth from people and lure them to have a scan. It’s all about the money and not you. You are just dollars in their bank.
And there many ignorant people who learnt nothing from their studies and they become teachers with PhD, teaching the new generation deceptive gobbledygook science. They didn’t even bother reading the dose displayed on the CT scanner.
you want to know the risks? Read Prof John Matthews research conducted at the Melbourne university and published in the British Medical Journal (2013). There are few other studies at that magnitude done in other countries publishing similar outcomes.
the risk of developing cancer from a single CT scan examination is 24% higher than the unexposed general population, and then additional 16% for every additional CT scan.

    Sir.,
I am 19 , I mistakly entered ct scan room with patient (my mother) and worker didn't tell me to go outside and stared ct scan mechine
Now I worried about much how radiation effected me ..and future risk....
(It was CECT whole abdomen and I stayed beside leg area of patient.. 1 metre away from ct scan mechine... In the room)

      U will be ok
But if i was u i would sue that unprofessional tech and the whole hospital for such malpractice
The worker should’ve informed u with everything, then they should’ve preceded w the scan

This is a very low radiation dose exposure, significantly lower than getting an x-ray which is already a low radiation dose

Ayskant I’m sorry to hear that they have found tumors in your body. I hope you can find effective treatments. Tumors like this take 15-20 years to form to a measurable size. These tumors were not likely caused by your CT scan.
