    My opinion is that YN is trying to show how to do a beautiful design that is faster so the nail tech can make more money. They are not saying its the only way. Thank you Young Nails, love it!

    I've been a licensed cosmetologist for almost 8 years and I completely understand charging a client based on labor, time and product usage! Hair, makeup and nails aren't a necessity but people choose to get them done as luxury period! Bottom line is this "You get what you pay for"...and if you don't like the price then go somewhere else! Beautiful set of nails by the way😍

    I totally agree with the method in which you are creating this look! I used to do colored acrylics, but then when they come back for a fill in you have to file it down to the clear and start over again, or just polish over that design anyway so no reason to do the whole thing in acrylic. I love the genre method of acrylic powder in base gel! Your prices may be higher for some people, but you have done nails a long time, do it quickly, and live in Anaheim which is expensive and expensive real estate compared to many of us. With that being said, if you are a tech creating work like this and only charging $50-60 you are way, way too low and need to rethink you pricing strategy! If they want more - they PAY more. Last, I appreciate what Young Nails does here - shows us how to recreate designs and a solid pricing strategy that helps us in a clear concise way to price.

    If I took that pic into the salon and got those nails I'd want my money back. No marbling, different mylar in both shape and colour, and minimal rhinestone placement. The pastel ombre was on point but the finished nails lack the elegance of the original set.

    • @ollieolliver2693
      @ollieolliver2693 5 років тому +8

      I get that the point of this video was how to do a quick recolour without having to shave the nail down and rebuild, so the marble just isn't going to happen, but other than that if YN Vanilla Icy mylar was used and a variation of stone sizes (with how much the Lots of Rocks kit costs and the ease of application using a wax stylus, $2 a stone is painfully overpriced) the original look could have been maintained without compromising any time at all.

      Ollie Olliver ikr 2$ a stone?!?! I bring in my own, “stones” (acrylic gems...) when I go to the salon. The salons hate me & think I’m picky but they are overpriced & cant even shape a nail! They sell the same, “stones” for 5-10$ a pop that I get on Aliexpress & eBay 10 for 2-4$!! I normally do my own nails but have been to the salon about 6 times in the last 4 years, each time I was given fat uneven overpriced nails whether I chose gel or acrylic. In fact twice was so bad the next day I took off the bling & re shaped & filled myself. Why the heck would I pay 100$ for that?!?! If it was me doing that set I wouldn’t charge more than 100$ but if it only took me an hour I think I would charge 80$ (Canadian!) it has minimal gems & she wasted so much powder that isn’t the clients fault so she shouldn’t have to pay for it.
      All that being said I like both sets but I agree with the above commenter, the dark pink Mylar doesn’t match & looked kind of orange. For that price there should be way more bling. Omg wait! You sassy devil! Your trying to show people how much they could potentially make from one set if they buy your products/get into nail art! Bravo 👏🏻 (I only feel like half a blond for not getting it till now 😅) well done YN! (Btw I have your non soak off structure gel, love it 💕)

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  5 років тому +15

      The duration of the design wouldn't be affected with the different product, ether way a fill will be necessary in 2-4 weeks, and an all acrylic set would have been quite a bit more in this case. This client chose gel polish as a topical design so she could save a few bucks on this appt as well as her return since she won't have to have everything removed, just gel polish removed & filled.

      It is acrylic and dip powder encased in gel yes? This still has that strength and long-wear.
      It’s just a lot less chunky and looks nicer.
      Plus I’d pay any price for a well executed design;P

    Woah UA-cam recommending me this video again. Love the color scheme. It’s about that time. Spring sets are in I guess. Some of the people who comment I’d never pay that much for a set. This and that. This and that. Firstly, I thought this channel caters more to those that are nail techs. Not nail enthusiasts like myself. If I was going to make a business out of it I’d sure take your advice and see where I could raise prices after doing nails for a while and staying good at it. Secondly, location matters a lot. West coast and east coast like LA and NY are known not to be cheap. Cost of living is high so makes sense as to why luxury services aren’t cheap in those sort of locations.

    Does the size of the stone matter on how much you charge for it? or you charge two dollars no matter what the size of the stone is? Im learning on how to price my services by watching you guys. I just made a purchase with your April sale. love your products.

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  Рік тому +1

      Depending on what kind of stones you use (Swarovski crystals vs basic rhinestones), you can charge per stone or you can have a set price per nail. Keep in mind that if you do a set price per nail, you may want to have a different price for short, medium, long, extra long. For example, you could charge $10 per nail for short, $15 for med, $20 for long. If you are using Swarovski, it may be higher depending on the size/shape of the crystals.

    I have a "how much" question. Do you ever custom mix a gel color? For instance, if a client really wants a specific periwinkle color and you have a blue and a purple and a white you can combine to make the color. Would it be like when you mix a glitter and you charge per gel? Would you charge for the custom mixing? How much?

    • @youngnailsinc

    $2 per stone?! A junk nail or bling nail with 20+ stones would be $40+ dollars! If a client wanted a full blinged out set it would be at least $490 if Traci had to do it! Swarovski stones are waaaaay more expensive than YN stones so how much should be charged for those? I love love love YN but $2 bucks per stone is super duper uber-ly expensive especially for stones with no variety!

  • @denasewell
    @denasewell 4 роки тому

    I think it is good to ask for what you are worth and to upcharge for extras like glitter and ombre...that said in a middle class/ blue-collar town on the east coast you may fetch a few clients willing to pay 160.00 dollars for a set once or twice a week. ..but who could live on that? In LA it is likely you will have a larger number of clients who can afford that price point..I know many extremely talented Nail Techs that do impeccable work using top quality products and equipment but the market in the regional area also is a factor in the price. I just want all those young and talented nail techs not to get discouraged by the fact they are not getting 160.00 for a set of nails.."you get what you pay for" is not always true.
    I love Young Nails Channel as well as your products by the way..I am not refuting or criticizing anything said here just offering another perspective

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  4 роки тому +1

      Definitely shouldn't feel discouraged, and we always recommend having lower priced services available on the menu but when the client chooses aaaalll the things it needs to be charged accordingly and discussed with them of course that way if there is a budget we can work with that. All that said the point of the series isn't necessarily to price match but more of a reference, base prices may vary but all the additives should be charged for so we are just looking to help guide techs. :)

    Look, I love Young Nails but you guys really irritate me with your pricing. Of coarse I understand that you're in it to make money but that's highway robbery. Not that you're charging too much per color, product ect. but I guess your starting point mostly, and charging for shape is unreasonable unless it's a really long set. After all shaping the nails is part of it. That's like charging extra for the starch in a potato, or the fiber in beans. For that reason I don't usually watch the How Much series but I've watched everything else😅 I do love the look though. That ombre was dope 😍

    $160? WOW. $2 per stone? Highway robbery on this one. You can really sit there with a good conscience and charge that much for nails? Do you know how much food that can buy someone? That's 2 weeks of groceries for my family.

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  5 років тому +9

      Totally understand how some could feel that way! That's more than my grocery bill as well, however nails are a luxury and as you saw there is a price break down for each item added. This client wanted all the things and was totally fine paying, if someone is on a budget they can always get a simple gel polish. The price is the price, it is not a nail techs job to budget for their clients but to have a range of items on their menu for the clients to choose from. And fyi $2 per stone is about average. ;)

      Nails are a luxury not a need. We all have different budgets and we all may choose the salon to go to according to that budget. Having said that this is why we have UA-cam.We can learn to do it ourselves and of course we can save tons that way😉

      A friend that is a tattoo artist always says to people who ask her how in the hell she can possibly charge so much and her response is this "You are not paying me just for the X amount of hours you are in my chair. You are paying me because of my years of experience, because of the art schooling I took that has given me a mastery of art to provide such beautiful tattoos that'll be beautiful for a lifetime and because I took dermatology classes I took to make sure I can take care of your skin. That is what goes into your tattoo, not just hours and ink." Same goes for nails. Product, time, experience and it is a luxury thing.

      Maintenance for future sets, also a time factor as well as cost. If we did a traditional ombre the full nail would need to be removed at this appt as well as the next which would increase the cost and appt time.

    The price is justifiable, but I have never had a client who would EVER be okay with that or willing to pay it. People always are trying to save a buck, which sucks because it’s usually those same people who have the highest expectations. When I have a customer who is willing to pay a lot for their set, they are always chill and super happy with the outcome. When I have a customer who gets the cheapest set and will do everything in their power to save some coin, they are always the one who have the most complaints and highest expectations. It’s legit ridiculous
