  • Fix your Knit Tops with Elastic Thread!
This is an easy technique that can make all the difference to the fit of your knit camisoles and tanks. In this video I use a simple shirring elastic that is available at most sewing shops. Here is an example on Amazon:

This was terrific, thank you, Lisa! I’d appreciate a tutorial on sewing elastic into a neckline. I know a lot of PetiteKnit patterns call for this, but I’ve never done it yet. Love learning from you, you’re very concise. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 It’s raining in Berlin but that’s ok… it was the first “ooh, I need to get out my sweaters again” day. 🍁

I am currently working on a jumper and I can tell that elastic added to the cuffs will make me happier with the fit. Thank you for yet another hugely helpful video.

That is very neat! Filing it away for the next time I need to deal with a stretched out opening.

Great tutorial! I love that tank top; I’ve never knitted one. I have used sewing some in knitwear, and I’ve found it useful. I had to crest a casing once for a knitted skirt made out of linen yarn. I’ve never worn it much but I wasn’t aware it would grow some so maybe I should wear it😊

Great that you were able to fix this drooping issue. I too have used this method with a cotton hand knitted cardigan. It is a lace pattern that took me so long to knit. It has grown alot and then the sleeves were way too baggy and the hem droopy. So i used your sa e method tk carefully sew in hat elastic into both cuffs and on the hemline. Although i absolutely ,ove tne cardi, i dont reach for it much cos it is annoying to wear. Happy knitting ❤

So frustrating when an issue like that keeps us from wearing our makes!

What a brilliant idea/trick! I've sewn for years and would do this without thinking for my sewn garments - so why wouldn't I do it for and knitted garments?! Thank you for enlightening me 😁👍

I am amazed at the difference this made! ( Also it was really nice to hear just your voice after the repetitive 4 bar phrase stopped playing. I know there was more to it, but through my computer I basically I heard quarter note Bb's 2 bars, A 1 bar, Bb 1 bar, and it is not as nice as just your speaking voice )

Thank you for the feedback! Sometime I like music underneath, but maybe I need to find some new options. ;)

Ahh I hadn't thought of using this with knits, great idea!
I did do something similar recently to a dress my teen loved that was a size too big (smaller didn't exist). Besides taking up the hem and sewing in a tighter waist elastic I also fed elastic trough the underarm seam so the tank style top wouldn't look quite so wide. Worked like a charm!

Yes!!! Right? It’s a great little tricky that can totally help things fit.

Hi I had a mohair sweater with sleeve cuff that were gigantic. I use elastic thread and made 5 rows at the cuffs I think it look so much better with a style of a five inch cuff.. love the look.. so yes any more suggestion on fixing our knits would be great...
I have another sweater way to big and it going to be frogged ..its in "timeout"

That’s a great tip- I am thinking of doing the same with the cuff if my Friday Tee. It just came out too loose.

Very helpful. Thank you. Just to clarify, you’re using elastic thread as in shirring elastic, right? Not maraflex, Seraflex etc.

    • @Lisamakes
      @Lisamakes  10 місяців тому +1

Hi! Yes, it’s a shirring elastic. You’re right, I should have clarified.
