It is crazy how people who follow Honnold know how introverted he is and Pat with his personality and knowledge just makes him completely open up, Pat really is just the best at making his guests be themselves.

This is kind of shockingly great. I didn't really expect this much from Pat, but he really did his research and came prepared. He's so wildly stoked about things, and he has such great energy. This is pretty awesome.
I'm honestly so pumped about the olympic wall climbing, primarily because I hope Pat will have him back during the games to talk through the highlights. Such a killer interview.
Surprised Alex is able to even walk, let alone climb, with those massive, monumental balls he has to carry around all day.

I love how Alex finds the whole crew and some of their questions that compare to other sports baffling. He’s so not connected to pop culture or mainstream anything. It’s pretty fun.
Climbing (particularly free soloing) is far more of a spiritual experience than it is a sport
Alex is a pretty extreme introvert and this is the most open and relaxed I've ever seen him be with anyone in all the interviews I've watched of him. Mcafee's got the magic!

Rogan's interview of Alex was okay but Pat's interview of him is the best I've seen. The worst one was Jimmy Kimmel; that was truly awful.

@@vandals_Gardens nothing was wrong with the interview, he just didn't seem to enjoy it as much as he did with pat. probably because it was just part of his press tour for the movie
@@vandals_Gardens Rogans first interview with him, he sat down with him for 3 hours and made remarks that basically implied he hadn't even watched the movie Free Solo, Pat put in so much more effort and it looks like got a lot more interesting responses out of him. He also just seemed to enjoy it more. I didn't mind the rogan interview though.
@@bmurph24 I didn't get that out of it but you must be seeing something I'm not, they also had a podcast today and he seemed pretty enthusiastic the entire time, I feel like he was alot less exposed to media when he did rogan, and now he's starting to get used tot he fact that he's famous and embracing it. Alex's free soloing El Capitan rates with the greatest individual sporting achievements in human history. I've been following him since he free soloed Half Dome in 2008. He's a different breed. I hope we continue to enjoy his accomplishments for a long time to come.
What a interesting interview. Couldn’t be two more different people
For me, this was when I absolutely knew Pat and the boys were eventually going to make it big. This was such an incredible interview. From the obvious prep, the enthusiasm, and making Alex feel right at home. What an incredible guy. It’s 8 months later and here I am watching this thing for maybe the third time. Awesome stuff.
I think Alex was really happily surprised by this interview, kudos to Pat for doing the research and appreciating his love for climbing!

Please don’t change Pat! You claim not to be a “journalist” but because of THAT, you are actually a journalist. Interviews are meant to learn more about another person and your style has produced some of the BEST interviews I’ve ever seen
Pat is actually one of the best interviewers on the internet, he’s a regular dude so he asks the type of questions that dumb people like me want to know. This dude Alex is crazy, in the back of his mind he probably knows he’s gonna die climbing up something.
Well I guess his point was that his preparation is so thorough that nothing he solos is unfamiliar, he’s worked out all the kinks and knows what isn’t possible. I really respect that, the way the insanity is actually backed up by tons of small steps

I love how humble Alex Honnold is. No matter what question is thrown at him or how excited the interviewer gets he just calmly answers with humor and ease. Truly likeable. Makes it easy to watch. Very enjoyable.

I shed 5Ibs of sweat through my palms just watching Free Solo. I felt like the long lens cameraman in the film who couldn’t bare to watch anymore but had to. It’s the scariest and best film out there.
Unreal segment. So fricken funny. Alex loved it. You could tell he was super comfortable. He can’t win AMerican ninja warrior!

Honnold was an engineering major for a year before his dad died. It derailed him for a bit and he quit to climb and get his head space together. Never went back because it turned out he was awesome at something else. He has periodically mentioned the possibility of finishing a civil engineering degree.
