      I'd love to find out how to figure out the ripeness of an avocado and time it so that I know when they are ready to eat. Sometimes I've prematurely cut them and then they are super hard.

      Another thing that works for me is just putting cling wrap directly on the guac. Or just eat it all before it gets too brown haha. A little is fine.

    Hi! One tip from Lima Perú with the avocados, palta for us. When you open the avocado and is still in use, you put the seed in a small bowl with water till the top. You leave it in your kitchen all the time that the avocado is not finished. When the avocado is finished you can throw the seed and water. This is for the avocado not been black. Little tips from our grandmas through the years😉

    • @quelorepario
      @quelorepario 4 роки тому +6

      @@akroia1986 yeah, the water layer prevents oxygen ever reaching the avocado, but because the avocado has a very high in fat content so it will be hydrophobic and it wouldn't "water down" the avocado/guacamole. The same protective layer could be done with oils, but it would be impossible to get rid of it effectively affecting the food, so the water is an elegant and simple solution.

    Great video ma'am. That is exactly how I used to make guacamole years ago. You have inspired me to try it again. I always have used the old trick of leaving the pit in with the avocados or the guacamole to help prevent turning brown. It has worked absolutely zero times yet I still do it. What a stupid creature of habit. I will definitely try the water trick thank you so much.

    I never realized 1) Buy avocados with stem in place (if possible). 2) Remove seeds from tomatoes. 3) WATER!! to prevent browning. I thought I was a pro .... but now you gave me the confidence to buy customized plates from the DMV that say "ImAGuacamolePro". Oh wait ... got any tips on how I can condense that down to only 7 characters???? I'll be subscribing even if you can't help me there.

    Great recipe
    To make avocado easier to mash after removing seed cut into the flesh in a cross pattern then scoop it out. Leaving smaller cubes that a fork works through in no time
    Also you can just leave the seed in the avocado half you aren't using or put the seed into the guacamole this will prevent it going brown.
    Finally you can use grown cumin & black pepper for extra flavour plus spring onions instead of or with less of the onion.

    • @Downshiftology
      @Downshiftology  6 років тому +4

      Great tip on slicing the avocado first before mashing! But unfortunately leaving the seed in the avocado is a bit of an old wives tale. It's been debunked by science that it does nothing to prevent it from going brown. Instead you need a way to prevent oxidization, which the water does (or plastic wrap on top, but I prefer the water). :)

    • @isaz597
      @isaz597 6 років тому

      Downshiftology thanks for reply. Honestly I've used the seed in & without over night with the guacamole actually not turning brown. You could be right I have lid which comes my storage container. But definitely without a doubt the avocado half I'm not using if left with seed in doesn't spoil for at least 24 hours.

      I'm going to make this tomorrow. I love avocados and have started to keep some pits to attempt to grow a tree. Not that I expect to ever get an avocado, but I found two videos on two different ways to try to get them started & I'm excited to see if I have any success!

    Awesome hack to store the avocado. Try finely chopped pecans in your guacamole. Sounds odd but it’s so good.

      I like chopped pecans on most things, so I'm sure that crunch would be tasty in guac as well! :)

    “Make sure you remove the seeds. You don’t want watery guacamole.” Also “poor water over top for storage”
    Looks absolutely delicious tho. Can’t wait to make it.

    Loved your video. I have made guacamole salsa many times, and I always add lime juice. But it never fails, mine will turn brown after a short time. I will not eat it the next day, it looks disgusting. I learned from you how to keep it green looking. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe with us. This was very helpful for me. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and to all who are watching this video.

    Side note: As a kid I used to save the pits and play with them so needless to say I had a pretty big collection.
