Totally awesome deep dive into the ES-335 that I have ever seen. Kudos and Cheers mate!
Bro, I will NEVER regret spending the money I did buying my 335. I feel blessed to have one
@jairocampo1993, I’m seriously thinking about getting the es-335 figured ice tea. Is it worth it? I’m not the hugest electric player, but I love the way it feels, especially transitioning from acoustic to electric
Yes get one. You will not regret it.
Man, you had that thing SINGING! I've got a Gibson Lucille and an Ibanez knockoff. Both fantastic all-arounders. Great demo!
3:46 , Bound fingerboard is a beautiful piece of rosewood, not maple as incorrectly stated.
👍😉 Great content guys, keep it coming.
Sounds great man! Nice playing!
Love my 335 bought it back in 64, loved it then, love it now
I love ES-335's. I still have my '59 RI ES-335 (bought new in 2003) and recently purchased a '64 RI ES-335.
I just got a Gibson ES-345 in the sixties cherry. The brother of the 335. Man, do I love everything about it!
It can do it all. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the T-Type PUPS do and they clean up really nicely when
you dial the volume back. I use a Gladio Cornerstone Dual Overdrive pedal and some delay. It does very well with the Dumble Amps tones. I dig the Big Muff sound you used in your demo, I might have to get out my Metal Muff again lol. I can't say enough about how much I love my ES-345. I am only 5ft7 on a good day lol but I don't let my shortness let me down, The guitar is big but It doesn't affect my playing. Big Guitar, Big Sound, and it is
also comfortable on the lap. The only thing I can tell people is to give it a try. The Cherry Red is gorgeous.
The process and time involved in making a 335 is just so laboursome compared to other Gibsons(and any other electrics from other makers), they're a work of art well and truly!!
Basically it's all a matter of what they think a customer will pay for a Gibson guitar and they make the guitar fit that price with the included profit. In the early 1900's a Gibson guitar cost a little less than a Model T Ford which would be about the same price that a Gibson goes for in today's money, around $3000. Guitarists got used to paying a lot for instruments and don't balk at the Gibson prices today because of that.
I did a report on the music industry in college and found out that the biggest factor in musical instrument prices was that demand was inelastic. That means that you won't make more profit by lowering prices. This comes about because not everyone has a need or desire to play a musical instrument and your customer base is limited as opposed to a phone or a car where everyone needs or desires one. So high prices will be the norm for guitars.
Yeah, there are good $100 guitars but everyone serious about playing guitar will want an expensive guitar.
Rubbish.
Indonesian Corts are equal in build quality to American made Gibsons and only need a pickup upgrade to be equal in tone. They cost only a tenth of a Gibson. I compared the original and the Cort and and walked out with the Cort, a beautiful case and a set of Lollar Imperials.
I will NEVER buy another Gibson. You can keep your expensive American muck.
@@johnmoyle4195 Rubbish, that's rubbish, never played a good Cort in my life, they're rubbish, pure rubbish, in fact worse than rubbish, wouldn't be seen dead with a Cort if you paid me plus Cort is an acronym for Corroded Old Recycled Trash, we all know that. You can play your Bay City Rollers and Abba tunes on it, go for it, but they're not for serious guitarists, bah humbug.
You're full of..........................................hype.
Adding an hour more of labor to a 335 would only add maybe $50 to the price, not $1700 more than an SG!
Nice playing-the ES-335 sounds fantastic. I have 2 335s, a 2016 (actually stamped 2017) figured Lightburst with Burstbucker pickups and a 2018 60s Cherry figured with MHS pickups. I love them both for how they look, but more importantly, for how they sound. I have to adjust how I play when switching from my Fenders (especially my fretting hand), as both have medium C-profile necks and a flatter fretboard radius; but that's not too big a deal. And it is the sound that gets me-my 2 sound different enough for me to justify having 2! Unfortunately, for my pocketbook, that same justification has me on the lookout for a late 90s to early 2000s 335 in Tobacco Burst, with a slim taper neck, dotted fretboard, and '57 Classic pickups. Like many players in this comment section, I just love my 335s!
Not to mention their heavenly playability. They almost play themselves. A joy to hear and play.
Oh man thats a nice geetar..... and great playing as well John...
This is my dream guitar (in sunburst). That neck pickup sounds amazing.
Jeez I just love Gibson guitars. Some amazing tones.
I miss the 335 I picked up awhile back had this great mid range honk to it great for all styles of playing. Neck took a little while to get used to, but at the time what a great price. Now its a little on the pricey side for me to pick one back up.
Got a 335 and a 355..owned 5 or 6 335’s in the past ..one of the most versatile guitars imo..
Bought a ES 345 last year. Love it.
Love my 335 in Cherry. It’s got fantastic wood grain and the Calibrated T-Top pickups. Mine is one of the early JC era. The thing is I can never let it go! I paid $2100 out the door brand new and you can’t get near a used one for that. Even at 5’6”, I sling it low and play it or sit it in my lap. Great axe.
Lol, I too am 5'6" with unusually long arms like a gorilla, and I play mine slung down low too. I love that axe!
I am just an inch taller than you on a good day lol. I just purchased a brand new Gibson ES-345 in
60s cherry! I got home with her about 3:30 or so with her today and I'm still playing her and it's now 5 a.m.! What a fantastic guitar. We might not be tall gentlemen but we can rock a great big guitar 👍
My next guitar will either be a travel guitar or a Tele which I love the sound of. After I watch your videos I often just add another model to my wish list.
I have had several in my 50 years of playing guitar. My current one is a 2017 w/walnut stain gloss finish. All of them have had mahogany necks, you said that one was maple?? Mine also came with burstbucker pups. I bought it because it had the larger 50's neck, and I just love that!! I've also had many LesPauls and SG's, but I can't imagine being without a 335!! 8) --gary
Soooo…… I own a 2001 Red dot neck with figured maple. Mine came stock with the 57 series pickups which I absolutely love. I own a 2012 Lucille (also with a 57 and a 57+ in the bridge. Truthfully they feel and play near identical to one another except the Lucille is a few ounces heavier and has the varitone switch. Both neck profiles feel the same to me. I love my Gibsons. I have four now. Gibson necks are perfect to me at 24.74 inches from nut to bridge. Fender necks are longer at 25.5 inches. PRS necks come in right in the middle which is one reason why they are popular and feel good.
Pickup wise. I love my twin P-90 DC for a whole different style of growl that cuts through the mix easily. The neck is a little thinner.
All in all. The ES series are the top of the heap and handle Jazz, Blues, and Rock equally well.
Gotta love em’
Shades of Alvin Lee. Slap a Peace Sign on it and call it done. The neck p/u sounds sweet. Great demo.
335s mids always cuts perfectly in a mix or live, a perfect guitar!
It broke my heart to sell my 1995 es 335, it has to be one of the most versatile guitars, 'take you anywhere' guitar. Back in 1995 I paid the humble sum of £600 brand new offer the shelf.
As I said a huge regret and so was in the fortunate position to be able to buy a 20 year old 335.
I love this guitar, it takes me to so many places and have no regret paying the 2.5 k to recapture that 335 semi sound I so much enjoyed. IMO one of the most versatile guitars out there and with careful research you can find some real gems.
What an awesome guitar! Really want a 335
I got a es339 figured in blueberry burst about a year and a half . I changed the pickups to S.D CS MJ magic (skinner burst), it’s a beauty one of my favourite.
oh yes, that's THE pickup! I've got a Skinner Burst set from when the price was still right, and 2 sets of MJ's Magic. One of them still in box just in case. The others are in LPs.
Sounds Great-One Terrific Gibson ES-335
That's a great guitar. That red seems to be the most popular color on a 335.
I have a few 335s and my favorite is a 2013 Gibson Memphis 335 in cherry red the neck is awesome and the tone is killer . It has classic 57 pickups stock 😊
Same as mine, except mine's burst. Awesome!
I have the 2013 CS Dot Memphis figured top in cherry finish with Classic 57s - it is great - glad you like yous
My experience with ES Style semis isn’t as long as with Les Paul style models and manufacturers. But what I can say after having played a number of Gibson USA and CS, Tokai, Eastman, Heritage models, is that there can be a huge difference between them, in tone and playing feel. Definitely worth testing and looking left and right, and in different price categories. The by far best I had were 2 64 Gibson Custom models, but I finally landed with a beautiful black Dot model from Tokai, for 25% of the price. Another Tokai - a higher model even - was not that good. Not exactly on the G Custom shop level - these had this special mojo going on - but comes close. The one in the video here also sounds fantastic. And yes I agree, owning a good ES3x5 is a must
Uujn
Beautiful...... I have a custom shop Memphis in triburst.....
I have a red Gibson 335 and its so GOOD!! I love it so much, when im not playing it I'm watching UA-cam videos about it lol
Two to try out, maybe comparison to the 335. Mid price range, the Eastman range of semi-hollows, and in the low price range the Sire, range. Both superb guitars and unbeatable for the price. I am buying an Eastman T186 MX. All carved and solid wood, Gibson cannot match them.
I would hope it's better, mainly because of how much they cost compared.
It is a Marcus King looking Axe. Love the guitar info.
The 335 is the most important guitar in my opinion. You can cover many different styles of music.
Little sad to see that the 335 no longer has a true ABR-1 with studs going straight into the body.
Do you prefer the 61 Burstbuckers over the T-Types ?
Es 335 Gibson are a fine guitar. I want one yes.
I bought the figured ES-335 from zZounds. Awesome axe! Plays way better than a Les Paul. In my opinion the 335 is the best blues/blues rock guitar in the world, and it's only competition is the new Asian made Guild Starfire VI. Lucky for me I have both, I bought them from zZounds and I can't decide which one I like best. I love both so much that I wish I could play them simultaneously.🙂Btw, I think you play just as good or even better than Rick Beato.
I thought i never wanted a semi hollow guitar now i want one now i understand why guitarists like this guitar. I want a guitar that i can play acoustic when plugged with the electric qualities..
Thanks for watching, it's got that magic!
I am looking for a Gibson 335 or Epiphone 335 I'm glad you are showing this video
Thanks for watching! Here is our review of the excellent Epiphone 335:
Best EPIPHONE 335 to BUY? Inspired by Gibson
ua-cam.com/video/uGCjXEzifNc/v-deo.html
I have 2 on Reverb . A Bonamassa 335 and one like this both priced right . Whichever one sells first , I’ll keep the other .
Roy orbison had one , can u do a review on the hummingbird gibson 😊😊
Nice look and good sound.
Definitely one of the "MUST HAVE" guitars in anyone's arsenal! NOTHING comes close to sounding like an ES-345! Thanks for the review guys! God bless and take care...
What does the 345 sound like in comparison to a 335?
Beautiful guitar and great tones! I have a 2018 Gibson Traditional ES-335 which is excellent, and a newer Epi ‘62 Bonamassa ES-335 which absolutely competes with the Gibson. Great stuff!
☝️☝️thanks for watching
I've Prize for you 💌💬🎁💌
Note:Nicegram📥📥
Yeah, I would go with the Epi in the case of the 335. Gibson is just overpriced.
It’s hard to get a beautiful tone at volume from the newer ones - from the 90s on - but yes, the 60s and early 70s models live up to the billing. But do you have tens of thousands to spend on a nicely maintained old one, and if so, are you ever going to take it out of the house?
Those pickups are measuring low for that pickup. They should be closer to 7.5. I have a very early JC Era one from 2020 with the "wrong" serial number.
I have a 2011 Epi Dot (also in cherry), and I love that little horse! Sure, the Gibsons are higher end, but the bang-for-buck factor with Epiphone is pretty astounding. For a guy with my limited income, I feel that I made a tremendous investment. (After all, you can’t put a price on the joy of making music with an instrument that sounds, feels and looks like it oughta cost twice the price!)
Poly looks nothing like nitro
For a moment I saw myself playing that beautiful guitar
I've got a beautiful 2013 Gibson ES-335 with the figured maple in cherry red. It's a fantastic sounding and playing guitar that's also quite versatile...can't go wring with a 335 style guitar.
Just got a 2014 335. The pick ups have been upgraded to Sheptone Blue Skys. Probably as close to original PAFs as you can get presently IMO. $3500 cdn so $2600 usd. In fantastic shape. Great price I think.
I bought a used 2021 60s figured with lollar low wounds for 2200 from guitar center online site unseen . Guitar was mint . Only issue was that it had old epi case .
I wish Gibson would do the 335 without nibs for a couple of years, like they did in the past, they would sell a lot more and I would buy one definitely. I have a Gibson LP 2014 anniversary no nibs, so it can be done. I bought an Epi 335 IBG in blueberry burst no nibs and it's amazing all round. Please Gibson 335 no nibs 🙏
John that guitar was made for you that's the best I heard you play!!!!
Thanks I really appreciate that! 🍻🍻
If you soak that fretboard in lemon oil 15 min. It really darkens it up, almost looks like Ebony😉
I just picked up a new one in ebony. I will compare it against my Eastman T486, which I really love but I’m curious if I might love the Gibson more.
I've been looking at one of those t486 guitars. I would love to hear what your thoughts are on the comparison of the two guitars. I'm in the market for a 335 style guitar. It's a toss up between the 486, a gibson and the new gretsch richard fortus that is supposed to do a paf type thing while keeping the gretsch cleans as well. If only I was rich lol
Had a 90s Korean Washburn Hb35 I bought a few years ago for 250 and sold for 850 during pandemic . One of best 335 style guitar Ive played . Ended up buying a used Gibson 2021 60s 335 for 2200 .
I had a 335 years ago. I have a Martin D28, 3 yrs old hardly play it, would trade for a used 335 burst.
I have a 2015 memphis es335 block inlays, beautiful build, finish and craftsmanship. It has great sustain but it sounds anything but warm and alive if playing jazz and blues are the main interests. When i first heard the custom shop versions compared to mine,i truly felt disheartened and all theses years later,i still do every time...I just didn't do my research how i should of and the sales guy was nothing but a dog and mislead me just to get the sale. I would of payed the difference for a custom shop reissue of the es 335....
I bought one too but the UPS office guy or the delivery guy stole it!! They claim its just lost, after a month i finally got my Refund back. This is the second item that UPS seems to have lost and they just dont care about it in the big picture of their operation!
This quitar is 50euros in german amazon, you did the best advertisment for that
I want that Les Paul.
Gibson es335 is a super guitar. There's not much you can't play on one of those. But if you can't stretch to that kind of cash, a Sire H7 or H7v definitely won't hurt you. You can gig, audition, rehearse anywhere with those, they are that good.
I really would have liked the comparison between the Gibby and Epi. Beautiful guitar nonetheless.
I started out on a epiphone 2016 ES-335 pro. Felt and played amazing. Since then I now have a Gibson ES-355. The epi is amazing and plays just about the same as my Gibson. Only thing the Gibson excels at is fit and finish, overall feel and of course the custom buckers make a major difference. They don’t really cheap out unlike with their les Pauls
We did the full Epiphone review as well:
ua-cam.com/video/uGCjXEzifNc/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching, I hear you about the comparison.
@@PlayandTradeGuitars Ahh ok. Ty for the link. I actually just purchased the Epiphone model. Just curious.
Gibsons are magic. Case closed. They are not for everyone but like
I love them. My am pro II tele is my main axe in Miami blue. Go figure.
I shelled out the $3,499 for a new ES-335--my dream guitar.
Since then I've spent $85 on a set-up, and about $50 on a String Butler. The store I brought it to to get set up is a certified Gibson dealer/repair business. My warranty doesn't cover the $85 for the set-up that didn't work.
The thing has never been even close to being in tune. After I had it set up, it stayed in tune for approximately one hour, then dropped out and hasn't come back again since.
When first purchasing one if these (it cost more than my first car, by the way), you should probably just yank the G string out immediately. You'll never get it in tune or intoned whatsoever. It can go from an in-tune open G to the 1st fret where it becomes some sort of G sharp-sharp-sharp Middle-Eastern semitone, only to plunge back down the scale again at the 5th fret to a shaky C-flat.
After tuning, the G can fall as much as a whole step once you give the guitar as few two or three strums. Basically, you can't even finish a bar of music (God forbid an entire song) without going horribly out of tune.
How am I supposed to use this thing? I can't record with it: it'll never be in tune with the rest of the recording. And I surely can't play it on stage: they'll throw beer bottles at me after watching me stand up there like an idiot while I try to tune it for 40 minutes.
Maple fret board??
Great video
Incredible as usual .
Thanks ☝️I really appreciate your support, message me by the name above☝️to receive gifts 🎁🎁

I want one bad!
I traded mine for a Duesenberg Starplayer TV, so much happier!
Sounds fantastic!
Definitely worth the money I’ve enjoyed mine for five decades. 1967 to be exact. My favorite of all my guitars, including other Gibson’s.
What did it cost in 1967. I had a friend that bought one in 1972 and I think it was around $750.
Sorry have been busy.
Just realized it was February 11, 1967. $278.69 with the case. Nice price.
It was made in late 1966 Kalamazoo.
Thanks to my father.
In 1980 new ones were going for just under 1k in Canada. Bought an early 60s es-330 instead. Fed back quite a bit though compared to the 335.
I never thought I’d see the day where I was happy with an epiphone. The Gibson was the goal, but the 335 I wanted would cost me into the higher thousands range. I’m not that kind of guitarist at all. My skill level and bank account don’t justify that kind of purchase.
I had one of NYC's best guitar techs set up my epiphone and couldn’t be more satisfied. Maybe in 5 years I’ll sell a bunch of equipment and finally buy that expensive Gibson, but right now I just want to practice and get better.
Considering that the Gibson costs almost $3000 more than the Epi, I damn sure hope it is a better guitar.
Yes
I think the semi hollow sings a little more than a solid body
I wanted to buy one of these, and went to all three of my local Guitar Centers to audition about a dozen 335s. I wound up buying an Eastman T59/V for $1000+ less and I have to say that in every way except for the name on the headstock the Eastman is a better guitar. If you want a 335-style guitar and you're not hung up on the name on the headstock, you owe it to yourself to check out an Eastman.
do a gibson 339?
Yes.
Despite the extra labor, it's still a $500 premium for it's reputation. The 339 doesn't have $500 less wood, but costs that much less, otherwise being the same.
There's something about red 335's
The Epiphone 335s are awesome but they just don't beat the Gibsons. I think Epiphone could charge more and Gibson less. Epiphone has shocked me with the quality of their 335s and 339s but Gibson just sounds and plays better.
I have a Yamaha SA2200. Anyone had both the Yamaha and Gibson and can compare?
Probably the best guitar i have ever tested
A 335 is one of the only guitars I have ever picked up that I just couldn't sit down.
Great review please try the Eastman t-486 in my opinion as good if not better made 👍👌😊
I love that neck PU
Es 335 are amazing if you get a good one. Much too often the finishes are really bad, especially with dot version. The f hole... it's not acceptable at this range of price. Yes the sound is the best you can have, but when you see actually, all the different brand making copy as the as2000 ibanez, sa2200 yamaha, almost as good if not better, for a fraction of the price...
Dot version is a big no no for me. Reissue 59' 64' if i'm patient enough or i'll look in another brand.
I don't shy away from that price range in general, but my desire for a 335 wasn't enough to go there. The Epi Inspired serves its purpose, but only after fret level, setup and proper pups. MHS in my case, after surprisingly Duncan '59s didn't do it for me.
Worth every penny.I will never part with my Memphis.Hated to see Gibson close it.
First, I really enjoyed hearing you play! Very nice...No doubt, that is one beautiful guitar in every respect. But...at $3,500, I would at least expect to see bound F holes. Even my Squier Starcaster has them and it's priced at 7X less! Also, if a 335 seems a bit pricey, there are many similar models from Epiphone that will get the job done for far less. Most people in your audience (if you have one) will never know the difference...
I have had both a gibson es335 (which I currently own) and an epiphone equivalent. Altho I did really enjoy the epiphone, my gibson is something special. That being said I was able to find it for 2600 canadian. Great deal.
Most people use the f holes to service the electronics
If they've all beengood why would we know any different?
Why can’t all the other manufacturers who make this style of guitar put a headstock on them that doesn’t look like it belongs on a hockey stick?… Harley Benson are closing in with the HB 35 plus, but not quite there with the quality yet! I guess Gibson are stopping Epiphone getting closer, otherwise everyone would buy Epi,s.
Anytime I see a 335 I think of the back to the future scene. Gibson is my favorite brand I would to have one some day, the firebird is the coolest body design
Is it a very nice guitar . When this guitar first came out the price was $355.00 . 100 dollars in the 50's Is equal to about a thousand dollars in twenty twenty four. So yes its Worth $ 3,500 . Problem, you can get a Epiphone 335
For well under a thousand dollars and they are very nice guitars
I think it's over priced being a Semi body
And there so big I take a SG or Les Paul
Dont get me wrong nice looking Guitar but not my sty lok e Guitar
gibson is the best brand in my opinion
Next purchase will be the Epiphone ES335
Great choice! In stock: www.zzounds.com/a--3979398/item--EPIEIES335
Thanks for watching!
I wouldn't belittle the acquisition of someone who's dreamed of owning an actual Gibson 335 and finally got one. If that person thinks it's worth it, then it is. Personally, I don't hear or feel $3000 worth of difference between the "real thing" and my $599 Epiphone (which I love). To each his own.
Gibson !!!!!
