You all are so helping Hamish and right now he can’t realize it. Draining that must relieve the pressure and discomfort. Get well soon Hamish!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love highland cattle. There is just something about them and Hamish is a wonderful example of highland cattle. He deserved a really nice treat after that procedure.
What a good boy Hamish was, during that procedure. He and Kyloe are such beautiful, lovable guys, they have become firm favourites of mine over the past couple of months, since discovering your channel. Thank you for sharing them. :)
This is my first experience with your channel - and I do not know how I didnt know about it as I adore Highlands. I bet Hamish will feel a bit better after that being drained, gosh what amazing looking and temperaments on both of your boys there.
You can definitely tell this man loves these animals because I watch a lot of videos and no animals that I’ve watched looks as good as these ones. I mean they are stunning and look how gentle they are with their daddy around. Oh my goodness two big gentle Giants around daddy. I wouldn’t trust them though lol. 😂😂 that man takes very well care of them, though you can tell they’re his babies.❤❤❤❤
The love you have for Hamish is touching and you can't bear to see him in pain. I feel that same way about all animals. Hope this is the last time you have to do this. Love from Idaho.
Absolutely Fantastic Bulls. Gotta say but Lady Vet is v reassuring....more gentle & this was obviously stress free. Huge pain relief for Hamish. Love from Ireland 👏👏❤
I can't believe how cooperative Hamish was to go in the stocks. He had to position his horns and had plenty of time. No rush. Everyone knew their job and did it quietly. Hamish knows his job.
As a vet tech its maddening for me to see shes not getting it all out. I wanna jump through the screen and open it a bit more flush and pull it all out for him. And leave it so it drains with him being a calmer bull they would be able to monitor that.
Well unfortunately the bigger the hole the more open the skin the better chance of something else getting in. It was draining well and she filled it up and squeezed it several times. If it was draining and suddenly stopped she would have enlarged the hole. From the appearance of the pus and blood it was not viscous, so probably a new infection which is easy to drain.
@@jenniferdriver6902I agree that it may be frustrating to some but the risk of secondary infection on top would be very high, I am more familiar with human wounds but the principles are the same, I do not know how feasible it is to give daily antibiotics orally, sometimes you have to play the longer game with wounds and look at the wider picture. The discharge looks pretty rancid and infected, a bag of saline to irrigate the abscess would be my approach to encourage as much out as possible.
She needed a bigger hole to get out all the big clumps out of it that is white stuff. Others do this and they stick there finger in the hole and this one pulled out a chunk about 6 inches it looked like. It was awful. If you don't get it all out it will fill up again.
I don’t like horns due to other animal safety and people. However they look amazing. If you need to drain it again I would make the cut larger that hole was not big enough.
Good job, but I have a question. In other similar videos I've seen, after draining the pus, they took a bucket of water, a piece of hose and a hand pump to put the end of the hose into the cut and thus clean the wound well inside, while pouring water. Isn't that necessary in this case?
It was flushed with saline and a turkey baster. The video was edited to avoid showing long moments of us just standing there while water pours onto the ground.
My outdoor cats get lumps with drainage like this. It was interesting to see the way he moved his head to get first one horn through the doorway then the other horn.
There's some relief for ya Hamish. That's gotta make him feel at least a bit better. Man, it sure looks like Kyloe wants to go through too...it would not surprise me in the least. Does he maneuver his horns through as slick as Hamish does? Every time I see that I'm reminded of the many videos I've seen of dogs trying to shove their way through a doorway with a long stick. I can imagine Hamish rolling his eyes and shaking his head at such a display. Heh, heh, heh. Sure hope he feels better.
My dad raised Highland cattle and they were gorgeous. My brother used to like getting the herd to run after me and at that time I swear I could feel the earth move under me as I ran to the nearest fence to clear it in one giant leap.
I'm no Vet, but others say that would be an access, not Lump Jaw. Accesses have fluid. Lump Jaw is hard and, when you inject a needle near it, it is more like bone.
I’ve watched many videos of abscesses in cattle, many folks do not make the drainage hole big enough for clots to drain out. Watch “Enoch The Vet” he has videos showing how large some of the debris is. In this video the hole needed to be enlarged. Good luck!
Glad i skipped that. uh. Poor Hamish. I know hes upset with you but im confident cows are smart enough to realize when theyre sick and he knows youre trying to get it better. They dont work things out like we do, but he knows what youre doing.
I was gonna ask what breed these cattle are but reading thru the comments I see. Their highlands! Man their huge & those horns just has gored all over them but they look so easy going, cows with bangs, their pretty
A couple of quick questions. One.. after you drain all that out and it hits the ground floor is removed from the device with all that on the ground do you clean that up or cover it with bleach or other things that kill germs.. you never know what kind of animal is going to come up and eat that and get sick.. could be the farm dogs... The second question is why don't you use peroxide in that abscess cuz that's one thing that will kill that bacteria.. and then rinse it out with your saline and your other stuff like betadine.. under the phone like crazy but it may help break up that lump in there
Wouldn’t it be better to make a little larger incision? I am thinking that you would want to try and get the cyst wall out as a precaution to having it come back. Not judging how you did this, just asking questions.
My first video on this channel. Some kind of an intro or subtitles during the video letting us know what’s going on would be nice. It’s just a bunch of muted conversation that we can barely hear.
@@ericwilliams1659 i have removed them several times, although not on that particular breed, so yes I do have experience, but thanks for your keyboard warrior comment.
It’s normally caused by the cow eating something that pokes them in the cheek or jaw such as a thorn, small piece of metal, etc., which contains the bacteria and then the bacteria goes into the bloodstream and so forth
Man those boys looked awesome! Video was a little quiet and hard to hear details, but just seeing them is awesome! What's up with the blown IV tho doc? That's why he was in pain! It bubbled up like crazy there!

There’s just something primal about highland cattle and truly magnificent!! I’m happy to know at least these 2 are properly spoiled !
He knows you're helping him, they are more intelligent than people know.
He is truly the goodest boy ever! The way he maneuvered his horns with just a few words of encouragement. 😭❤️

"This is my baby doc". Awwwww ♥️💚🧡
Such beautiful cows. Love how you treat them, with care and respect.
That's so cool, he knew to turn his head to get the horns to fit through. Hes definitely intelligent 💚
What a sweet bull! Goes into the crush, no problem! Good for you! They are such handsome bulls!
Wow. That must feel better for Hamish. Hope it all heals good. Nothin like the gentleness of a Highland Bull. Wae Hae Hamish.
What amazing and beautiful animals!! I can tell he really loves 💘 them, how sweet!!
Such a sweet and well mannered boy. Hope all goes well. 💜
I love this breed! They look like a Saint Bernard-Long Horn cross! Lol
I love this breed of cows! You should see their babies! Beyond cute!
having that drained must have felt like such a relief
I don't understand why she doesn't make the hole bigger so it can drain on it's own for a while?
Exactly!! There are chunks of pus in there that can’t come out of such a small hole. Hope she’s not a. Vet!

I'd think cutting that pocket of flesh out remove the blister and sterilizing it and covering it

Yes that right it's the sack.
Well that whole bottle is contaminated now.
It’s an abscess, not a cyst. Abscesses don’t have sacs.
Yup too small
When she was expressing the contents she can feel if there are bigger chunks in there.

Why do you let your cat outdoors to get lumps? It will end up with FIV or FeLeuk.

How did it get to this point that this guy has all these abscesses?
What about the lump on his face?

So is lumpjaw 1/2 way down the neck , and looks the same as a cyst
Sweet boy. Glad he's doing better.
What a beautiful soul he is ❤❤
Are cysts on bovine similar to humans? Meaning if you don't remove the sack the cysts are in they most likely return?
There are cysts and abscesses.
Cysts are skins cells built up in a pore.
Abscesses are infectious, generally do not have sacs.
He's so big, cute and furry! What do you do with them? Show them?
Is there nothing to numb him with?
That must have been so uncomfortable. Glad he had wonderful people around to help him get better,
Do y'all use smz tablets to treat it? I'm curious to know because I work with horses & we use them to treat or prevent infection.🙂
It sounded like he knew the meds were in his food and wouldn't eat anything with meds in it
love them both , they are so beautiful

what is the type of bacteria present and has it invaded the bone?

It was an abscess caused by the infection. There was no cyst wall
