    Boyd, I'll have to dig out my old kit and check for missing parts. I come along way since it was started. I'll improve on what I used to do. Thanks for the video, I'll follow you closely.

    Such a lovely design-- I look forward to seeing your lighting effect. I did notice that you really can see quite a bit through those huge front windows. Even leaving the main hatch and the cockpit door open-- allows you to glimpse a bit through all the openings. I think you should consider that PaulBo interior kit for another kit-- it is really impressive looking. A tad pricey, sure... but what results!

      It is a neat design. I'll definitely take a look at the interior kit for a future build. For now, I just got tired of waiting for it. This will still be a nice little model if my plan comes together.

      @@TrekWorks There are some websites dedicated to the show with images of the interior set, plenty for scratchbuilding. The details that wold show easily at 1/64th look not too different from what I've seen of the kit parts. "Accurizing" is probably easier than you think. Just a thought.

    Thanks Boyd. I enjoyed this show. Glad to see you building the model kit. On a side note, I wish some modeler or company would release an "accurate" model of the USS Cygnus from the Black Hole. Imagine the lighting you could do on that thing. It is a floating chandelier. That is my Holy Grail of models.

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I would love to build a nice Cygnus! There is or was a huge kit on Shapeways for awhile that I seriously considered. It was extremely detailed and accurate but also expensive! I was going to go for it anyway but in the end decided it was just too big. If someone ever comes up with an accurate model at around 3 feet or so, I'd be all over it!

      When I got the original kit years ago I was sorely disappointed that all the latticework was just raised lines on a sheet of solid plastic. At the time I didn't have the skills or tools to remake it in clear sheet with scratchbuilt lattice. I acquired those skills over the years but now my vision has gone so bad that I can't do it. (sigh)

      The flashing back wall was the same colors as the intakes and exhaust. Blue and red. It's supposed to be like a decorative engine indicator. Blue / recharging. Red / full charge for engines.

    The opening up on the back wall is excellently done! You are definitely mistaken about Aurora making 2 different sized kits.the 1/64 that you are building is the only one Aurora made.the kit was available 1969 -1970 and Aurora re issued it near the end of their operation around 1975-1976.
    The original release had the clear upper dome and engraved insignia on both sides of the hull above the passenger windows.The 1975 re release had no engraved insignia but added decals for the insignia.also the upper dome was molded in clear red.When Aurora ceased operations many of the kit molds were destroyed in a train de railment.Polar lights used an original 1969 version of the kit to make new molds.The hull fit perfectly until the interior was added.there were promotional photos of the polar lights kit with the interior displayed outside of the hull because the upper part would not fit correctly.The original 2 issues by Aurora never had a fitment problem and the polar lights kit was molded from a kit that was Un built for nearly 30 years and probably had warped in that time.just thought you might like to know a little about the kits history.And yes there was a small spindrift kit but moebius made that 100% themselves.

    I was always a great fan of Land Of The Giants and Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, having watched the reruns during the 1980s (I was born in 83, so wasn't alive when they first aired). A couple of years ago I decided that when I get a 3d printer, I would try to make a giant's scale model of the Spindrift (that being to scale to me if I were a giant) and have it lit up like in the show. I haven't got a 3d printer yet, but it will be high on my list when I eventually do. 😊

    • @markfergerson2145

      @@TheKnightsShield Nope, but there are websites dedicated to the show- at least one features images and measurements of the filming model. I do know it was supposed to be 1/12 scale so scaling from the 1/64 scale kit should be good.

    Expecting my copy of this kit today... Good to know sanding down the back wall made drilling out to openings easier, as that was my plan, too. I did find a large number of 1/64 scale figures for sale on EBay for reasonable prices, as I am considering adding the rest of the cast/crew to my build. You might check that out... A question Sir! I've discovered your channel (the Clipper and the Moon Bus from 2001: A Space Odyssey) did you have the lights for the front panel you were going to glue on, pulse? or breathe?
