    got the ts100. whats new i wonder? from what i can tell the ergonomics are now trash. and only 3 temp settings? mine is stepless, one push is one celcius increase or decrease. this looks like a knockoff from the ts100 which is a titan in soldering small stuff

      difference is usb-c input, which the pinecil also has.
      main personal iron is a ts100 running off ryobi packs, at work I use a pinecil with rigid packs or a laptop power adapter.
      there's some different firmwares out for the ts100, I haven't tried them.

    The Pinecil by Pine64 is not only cheaper, but much better.
    The hardware and firmware is both open source, and jammed with features.

    Could you test soldering a 10awg wire to a terminal. My pinecil struggles to do this, wondering if this is a good alternative.

      I’ll try to find some wire that thick. But the fact that it can hold a temperature of 700 degrees F should answer the question for you, provided the battery pack is beefy enough.

      That's not true, my pinecil can go up to that temps as well BUT when it touches something thick like a 10 gauge wire, it fails miserably.

    how quick does it cool down so you can change the bit sizes, also does it come with a stand? as in where do you put it when its hot and your not using it?

    • @dgoulian
      @dgoulian  Місяць тому

      It takes about 15 minutes to cool down, it does come with a small stand, but it sits on a surface safely and is rectangular so does not roll.

      @@dgoulian ahh so not ideal if you wanted an iron with different sized tips quickly then. Do you know of any other offerings out there?

    Did you purchase this product yourself?

    What's super about it? You only showed that it can melt solder, which even the crappiest soldering iron is capable of. Actually using it to do what most people buy an iron for is a different kettle of fish. Many irons actually struggle to do alot of tasks people need it to do. Maybe this is the same, and the reason you failed to show how it performs doing what it supposed to. In my opinion, no one buys a soldering iron to just melt solder. It even took you over two minutes to get to the actual product the video was tittled to be about. I'm not dissing you. Take it as constructive critique. People would want to see what it is actually capable of and what it is not.

      You missed the point of the review, which I carefully spelled out in the beginning: compactness & portability. 😮
