    I think you should be able to prevent/reduce the transistor from over heating by adding a peltier unit, capacitor, and computer cooling fan.

    The best tip on this build is to use the TV or CRT horizontal transistor too, something like 2SC3997, 5 turns to the base and 10 or more for the colector, with this transistor I have used 2K 3W if I remember it correctly maybe was a potentiometer.
    But why?
    Because it's a high voltage transistor and will survive to much more higher voltage, will of course became hot too but less then the 2n3055 and it is made just for this...
    I have tested for hours with this configuration with no problems at all, almost 12 years ago. ;D

      The external windings make the flyback produce AC voltage. The flyback internals have diodes to make DC voltage, so you need to use an external winding to utilize the flyback in an AC configuration like this with these components.

      The dielectric strength of air is about 10Kv per centimeter. So if your arcs are 1cm, it's about 10Kv. You can also make a probe using Mega Ohm resistors and use your regular meter to measure high voltages. There are several videos online how to make a high voltage probe.

    It still doesnt work.. i have a new transistor nd still nothing... can you explaine how do you mean invert them? Do you mean to invert for example thqt the ressistor aligator clip (i connected the parts with aligators) to the wire near the negativ instead of the possitive side of the flyback? I hope you understand what i tried to say...

    • @ludicscience
      @ludicscience  10 років тому

      NinjaJesus one terminal of the feefback coil goes to resistor and the other to positive. By inverting i mean the terminal that goes to positive now connect to resistor, and the terminal that goes to resistor now connect to positive. And dont use alligator clips, one clip may be making false contact.

    • @MrKiller1250
      @MrKiller1250 10 років тому

      Ludic Science well i tried that too, and i tried it withput aligators.. still nothing.. Is there a specific thing i'm missing out? A specific way to wind the 2 coils or something during connection of the 2 wires? Should i sand the transistor or the resistor where they connect with the wires? Anything at all? What if the resistor is like 90 ohm instead of 47? I mean i said 47 and rings say 47 but it could be wrong...

    The windings are wrong. the end of the first set of ten turns should be soldered to the end of the second set or ten turns.
    This goes to the plus side of the power.
    Either of the remaining two wires goes to the base through the 47 ohm resistor.
    The other goes to the emitter.
    It would also help to add a 1n4007 from the base to the emitter and another 1n4007 from the collector to the emitter. They aren't absolutely required but will help protect the 2n3055 from voltage spikes

      I always do opposite windings, not parallel ones. The end of one connects tot he beginning of another, just like a center tapped transformer. The "tap" goes to power, one is for feedback and the other is the power winding.
      The way you mentioned is the "official" way of doing it though, where the power on spike switches the transistor on very hard, then it saturates and switches off from the back emf.
      The version this guy did, which is also the way that I do it, the initial power on spike after the transistor turns on, turns off the transistor, and the back emf of the collapsing field switches it on harder, which immediately switches it off again, this continues until it builds up resonance. This circuit generally is able to run with even greater variables and less construction accuracy, but has less peak to peak power output, a higher output voltage and a higher switching frequency.

  • @chesterwheeler279

    Getting close to a hairpin circuit which is a logical step. Maintaining a constant or even an increasing power modulation and the addition of a CE circuit with dual earth grounding and you would have perpetual power and a self sustaining device. Resonating cold electric is the solution and the safety issues and heating issues are no longer problematic.

    when i try to make it work and this time it has an output and the voltmeter sais it generates 2v and i put a 8v battery
    any help?

      +nadgoB something must be connected wrong, you should get 1000s of volts

    • @MrKiller1250

      +Ludic Science i know but i tried connecting in so many waysband still nothing... is it maby because i winded the coils wrong? is there a size or a specific orderblike do you start overor under the flyback i dont know... could it be the transistor?
      p.s. i didnt get it to work at all with your model. i connected the middle to the R and the wire closer to the + of the flyback is my + on power. when i connect it your way i dont get anything. i get a small voltage when tappinf the battery tho. and i tried connectin instead tge ebd of the first and the beggining of the srcond cpil like you said i connected the end and the end for the + for power and got around 150 dcv and 200 acv

      +nadgoB it should work with the model in the video. maybe your transistor is dead

      +Ludic Science yeah i suspect the trasnistor too
      ill buy today anottjer onse. can i get another one or dpes it just run ob 2n3055?
      and just to be clear it doesnt matter how thick is your wire?
      and does it matter if the flyback is from a pc monitor (i think) because it has some kind of winds on tje top that you can turn for focus (thats what is sais)

    2n3055 works low frequency. why can it work in high frequency circuit?

    • @ludicscience
      @ludicscience  10 років тому

      Tuyen ta trung The transition frequency of the 2N3055 is 2.5 Mhz, that is more than enough for this circuit

    hey i made one and it worked thank you i shocked my self several times and it hurts lol i recomend to use BD243c transistor it works very well with it and 100ohm 4w resistor i run it on 12v 1amp switch mode power supply (SMPS) and i am getting nice sparks also i get flyback for free from tv reperation he sad it was broken but when i tried it it worked ,there's one probleme when i run this thing and draw an arc the tv's on my house turns off,how can i fix the probleme?!

    • @ludicscience

      +Yasser crazy boy Great you got it to work! About the tv turning off, that´s weird, it never happened to me. Try running from a battery instead of the SMPS

      NinjaJesus try inverting the connectios of the feedback coil maybe they are reversed, or your flyback is broken

      Make multivibrator and connect transistor to multivibrator output. Change frequency of multivibrator until circuit works. You can try MOSFET if bipolar transistor do not work.

      not a scam, i find that if you keep it around 5 volts ie usb power ,you don't need to even use that same transistor. In fact i'm pretty sure i've used mosfets and got an even better result.
