I grew up in the Big Bend area in West Texas. My grandmother in Presidio had a few loving rock cacti in her garden. I remember her having one in a flat maseta (pot) which she claimed was older than she was and belonged to her father. When she passed away in 1998 I went to claim the pot but a relative had taken it including the ones in the garden.
im from the South East Asia part- mostly popular for tropical plants
so for me, the specimen and cacti from mexico is like a "dream". it is so beautiful to appreciate by looking, and almost unreal- since we dont really have that organic situation over in our region.
i was shocked to know they use cacti for dessert 🤣, because they are valued as collective specimen/ decoration plants.
but at the same time, i do have the "look down" value for our tropical plants in our region- i guess i can partly understand why people in mexico "dare" to cook those cacti.
i learnt a lot from the video, not just plant, but the people and ourselves!

do appriciate the fact that you mentioned they love to be around limestone- thats good information for nusery!
but i think its more than just a limestone thing, it could be how the limestone help to store moisture, or how the rain acid mixes witht he limestone/ or mixes under the limestone, so that it produce food for the cacti? - i guess its best to open-up the root and have professtional look into to. this way we can learn and use it to preserve the plants!

I couldn't carry the amount of TP that I would need walking in the desserts of Mexico with all of those shaky-shaky tail things hiding under bushes 'n shit. I would be ready at any point of time to deposit my own weight in crap if I ever did come across one. Great video once again. :)
Hahahaha thank you! I’m also pretty scared of snakes and saw my first one while camping at night at the place from the episode on Lophophora fricii. Luckily they are very vocal and warn you when you’re too close 😅

Thanks for such amazing video! I've got platyacanthus seedling tree years ago, it has so nice colour! But it differs from the colour of adult plants. Don't you know why? Ariocarpuses are also very nice!
Nice! Yes, does it have purple stripes? They will grow out of them and turn green 🤯
@@RareCactus yes, i keep it at the strongest sunny place i have in my North conditions, and it gets a little purple shades, i wish it to stay purple as long as possible, it also grows a nice yellow fur on each areola, the little ones you have shown in your video do not have any fur, and seem to be protected from the sun by the stones around))
@@Narut7777 that’s right! They mostly germinate around rocks or near other plants, but the sun they have to survive is much stronger than cultivation 😅 Sometimes that stress can give them a different look 🤓

Very nice video. amazing plants. But, what r the evidence that the cows are harming the plants? I only saw the plant eaten by rodents. Is cow damage mostly trampling or actual eating?
Thank you! The real problem as always are humans, turning cactus habitat into cow fields. They trample, eat and destroy everything in sight.

@@RareCactus Tqvm for confirming it. I got 3 big ones growing in 2 big pots! I jus love to see d wicked looking spines growing to their full potential!! (many of my cacti tend to hav smallish spines, grow tallish instead of being round despite d ample space I giv them!& of course lots of sun too. )
