19:05 that is a very cool monitor layout
That’s a secret 🤫
This series is perfectly timed (getting ready to try and build one). Thanks for making it!
What’s the build looking like? What parts are you thinking?
@@clearonyoutube I have a PC that is getting a little long in the tooth, so I am planning on re-using some of the parts (Ryzen 3600X, AM4 B550 Motherboard, 1TB Nvme drive for either OS or cache, etc.). The big expense will probably be the drives, I want to have enough storage for it to function as a media server as well as storage. The big unknown will be the enclosure. I'm kind of interested in these newer 10 inch DeskPi racks so that if I want try netwoking or homelabing in the future I will have lots of options. I'm just starting out though so I don't want to get too ahead of myself. I don't really know anything about NAS or networking so I look forward to future videos!
@ sounds great dude. Just keep in mind, the OS doesn't have many read and rights. Your NVME maybe better off as a L2ARC Cache or even storage itself. We got a comment that Raspberry Pi maybe the best way to go if you want to maximise your $. But we've never tried 🤷♂
@@clearonyoutube If I didn't already have the CPU and Motherboard then purchasing a Pi would certainly be cheaper. Regardless of how much a Pi would cost though, it would be more than zero which is what using my already-owned parts will cost me. As far as the OS drive goes, I'm pretty flexible of that front so I will keep your suggestions in mind. Thanks!
It's absolutely criminal how this channel has less than 100 subs! However, I can't imagine that will be the case for long. Keep it up guys, incredible video!
Welcome to the crew 📸 Should there be an award for every 100? 🧐
Wayyy to go guys! Loved the video 🔥
We got lottttsss more in the works
89th subscriber here! I’m amazed based on the video quality and your on screen presence, I thought this was a well-established channel I had somehow missed. But you guys have just started! Kudos to the team, and all the best! Way to go!
Also, here and there, the content slightly resembles Aevy TV. One small suggestion-the background music feels a bit too loud when listening through mobile speakers. Take care, guys!
Yo thanks so much 👊 These are the kind of comments that justify all the work we put in. Audio is a BIG part of changes we will implement on round 3 🛠️
Man who are you this shiz is so high quality, got my hands on 4 6tb hard drives for free, been looking for a good video on exactly this, vedy good, subscribed
Let us know how the build goes. Do some research on Raid, get the most out of those drives!
If you need more storage, go with raid 5/raidz1, this gives you ~18tb of storage where 1 drive can fail and no data is lost. If you need security/redundancy go with raid 6/raidz2, this'll give you ~12tb of storage where 2 drives can fail and no data is lost. There's also raid 10 but I wouldn't go for that personally but read up on raid and go from there, you can always set it up in different ways before you commit to anything.
Also, try finding out what OS you want to run. If you have an extra SSD you can make that your os drive and have data on the hdds, truenas is great for that, truenas also likes a lot of ram due to its zfs filing system so take that into consideration. If you want to run your os from a thumb drive, unraid is the way to go imo. If you don't feel comfortable with any of the os'es you research, you can always use windows' built-in "storage spaces" (just type that into the search bar in windows) and set windows up as a headless pc/server with shared folders and so on.
Anyway I wish you luck in your endeavors and envy you for getting those hdds for free 🙂.
Constructive feedback: Please refrain from playing background music while speaking. It makes it difficult to follow and understand what you are saying.
Audio is going to be our focus next time round. Turns out it's not the easiest thing to get right 😮💨
Awesome video!
@@KennethEstanislao 👊👊
only 44 subscribers? man this is to underrated...
Dude. That's what I'm saying 😂 Welcome to the crew
Learnt something new! Let us know your posting schedule guys. Notifications are on but I’m sure most of us here get 100s a day 🙃
Great explanation in the video! Feels weird to be the 41st subscriber on a channel with such a high-quality video.
Let me end it with a small piece of feedback: the music volume during the intro was distractingly high at moments; maybe you could improve that by the next video?
Thank you for the feedback! We are new, so everything is a learning. Working through audio right now. Turns out it's harder than we thought 🤷♂️
eBay US is best for refurbished, or used hdd. You can get insurance on the drive in case it goes bad.
That's a fair point! Although that's not necessarily something you can expect/rely on in every region :/
@clearonyoutube Either way in my homelab I've had at minimum 40 refurbished \used drives in 10 years. 2 went bad. Look at the monthly Backblaze stats. These drives have a lot to give and are engineered well. Read the stats.
Great video guys just subscribed.
Your one of first subs, welcome to the crew 🔥
I miss shawn's pleb setup though.
He's not going to be pleased 🥲
Get off my case dude 😭😭😭
I like the video overall but calling it the world's cheapest nas is cringe, as you have no way to prove that it is. For example I have a raspberry pi setup with smb and that is by defintion a cheaper nas than what you have built. Don't get me wrong the video is super informative it just the hyperbole feels out of place.
Fair enough 😂 Thanks dude 👊
