I never operated a tractor before nor ever done any repairs on any tractor whatsoever. 3 months ago i bought MF135 and started learning how to operate it and ploughing maize fields. 3 weeks ago while on the farm, i saw water pump leaking. Frustrated and not knowing what to do, i came accross this video explaining how to replace water pump. I'm so proud of you, i was able to change the pump just by watching your video and my tractor is back to work. Thanks a lot, love from South Africa!!
Hi Lance I will never rebuild a tractor but its bloody interesting watching and hearing your knowledge and experience as you start the rebuild, its good to see a pro at work instead of a bloody amateur F ing it up ! Looking forward to the rest of the series and eventually seeing you drive the old girl Thank you for an informative and highly entertaining series.
Same for me in Poland we don't even have a bakelite piece. Just the pump, a gasket with a hole and than a second gasket on top protecting the timing cover. A plate sounds much more reliable. Just completely renovated the engine it's only running hot now I'm in doubt between the Pomp that looked good and the radiator ha! Thermostat opens , sensor, hoses, air leaks, temp meter are all tested.
Awesome video Lance, have been trying to eliminate possible water ingress areas as my oil level increased so far replaced fuel lift pump and gasket, oil filler and gasket so next will be to check behind the water pump. Thanks for uploading this info its so helpful :)
I;m a welder not a mechanic, very interesting videos. Hopefully I never have to dig into my 245 like you are. It has a 3 cylinder Perkins also, not sure if it's the same engine as yours. Good stuff, keep smiling.
New sub here. I'm working on an old TO-20, and someone recommended your channel. I will likely be here quite a bit this Winter looking for advice on my little Fergie. Great channel!
Hello Lance hows life treating you please can you advise me i am doing radiator and engine antifreeze flush its green coolant thats coming out when i have flushed with fresh water can i put red antifreeze i have 5 x 1 litre jars new can i use this in my TVO tractor 🚜 would two litres do top with fresh water or three litres many thanks Lance how your ute 😊👌💯
G Day Stephen, You would need to read the strength of the coolant to get a good answer. Red will work fine if the green is cleaned out well so the two dont mix. It also depends on if the red is a concentrate or ready to pour in.
@@BundyBearsShed Cheers Lance i flused the engine and radiator ran it hot flushed again it was pure antifreeze you have to add water i put 2x litres and topped with frest water little ferguson really needed thanks so much Lance for your advice 🍻 i have fond memories of my back packing time around Australia Perth - Albania Pemberton - monkey mia Brum Katherine Olgas around Alicesprings Adelaide Murray river Kangaroo Island Wilsons prome Victoria around Tasmania up to. Sydney seen and experienced some kool adventures you live in a fantastic country 👌💯🍻
Hi Lance... another great video. I uncovered similar wear in my 135. For the thermostat- do you think 160deg or 180deg for my Perkins AD3.152 diesel? Thanks!
In Australia in our hotter areas we use 82 deg C. After operating the tractors for a while they are wide open anyhow in most conditions, I think only in extreme cold you would have it opening and closing.
Hi Lance when my fan blade has quite a bit of play is it possible to replace the bearings after the water pump is out or is this always a full water pump replacement? My MF50 runs fine but sometimes the fan bearings start dancing around the whole gives a horrible vibration & noise. Ones I change rpm it disappears and everything runs fine and smooth.
Hello i have a mf 290 but i know fuck all about engines but she starts first tip of the key ever day even when it -4 out side does this mean the good or it this normally and when i pull up the dip stick when it ticking over no oil comes up out of it aswell and when she rev up high there practically no oil coming up either
@@BundyBearsShed I know exactly what you mean. You need absolute dexterity when working on these babies. Gloves are for weekend wannabes. Besides, ya can't beat mucky, oiled up hands!

Great tip about the water pump plate, excellent series, thanks Lance.
Thanks Gareth.
“I’ve got a metric shifter here” reaches for adjustable spanner, love it 😂. I have the same problem with my 135, mixture of the two.
I have metric ones, lol.
Three MF135 videos in a day! Great stuff.
Plenty to come if I can get time to film this weekend.
Great tip there Lance. I’ve never seen that setup for the water pump so learnt something new today! Thank you! 👍
Thanks Gordon.

Hi Lance - great way to start the day! - 3 videos in one go!
There is a few more in the barrel yet, lol.
Great video Lance I'm really enjoying this series you do a very good gob at explaining things as you go keep up the good work
Thanks Ian.

G Day Darren, It probably is very similar even the 4 cyl is basically the same just with an extra pot.

Did this problem of eating through the housing exist on the 23 C engine at all?
No

Does anyone know what is the thread of the nuts on the lower corners of the radiator?
Geniune us 7/16 unf from memory but aftermarket would be metric.
my massey 35 is not circulating water. I've changed pump and thermostat but no go. Any ideas
Have you checked the thermostat is opening? I have had the odd faulty one. possibly try without the thermostat and see if there is any flow then.

You can replace the bearings and seal but often it is more cost effective to replace the pump as a complete unit.
@@BundyBearsShed Thanks for your answer. I live in New Zealand and probably have to order parts from overseas.

G Day Jonathon, It sounds like your engine is in good nick, all of those things point to it being good.
Ok thank you going to give her a oil change this week to make sure there no metal pieces in it
GOOD VID WELL DONE
Thanks Bill.
Great work. Arent you afraid of cancer? You ought to wear gloves in my humble opinion?
Thanks, When I started there was no such thing as mechanics gloves, now Im that used to not wearing them I dont like them much.
