- Hello and welcome to the next video in this little upgrade series of the WL Toys A959. In the last video, I upgraded the front and rear differential with metal gears. I am continuing where I left off from that video and in this video I will be upgrading the drive shaft, drive gears, reduction gear, and motor gear all to metal. Below is a link to where you can purchase yours:

Sorry about the poor audio. The music I used in this video came up as a copyright strike so I had the option of removing the music. UA-cam did not remove the music properly and made it the way it is now. Sorry about that.
i think you can edit that out but i may be off /wrong
@@overbuiltautomotive1299 I’ll have to mess around with it again but I tried it before and it didn’t work.
@@ReadytoRunRC yea its ok better video is up that not i just down it down no issues
This is shaping up really nice.It looks like you are enjoying doing the upgrades.Keep up the good work.
Ron Ralph's son I am having a lot of fun with it. I almost feel like I should get more upgrades just so I can keep going with it but I don’t want to make too many parts metal because then I lose a lot of flexibility and durability. I am happy with how it’s turning out.
thanks for videos of 959 upgrades, very helpful bro
Micheal Pereyra I just have a few more upgrades to do but glad I could be helpful to you. Thanks for watching and subbing too!👍🏻
Thanks so much man you just helped me figure out how to mod my A959 so I don't have to run the stupid brass pinion anymore
There ya go. Glad to help you out.
You are like a miniature auto mechanic. Nice intro
Haha thanks Doug. This is actually the first time I really tore down an RC to rebuild it. It is rather fun doing it cause you really learn a lot about how everything works.
Would love to see that drive line tested. Just tested mine. Exact same drive line it seems. The result not as I hoped for 🙂 Great you’re running a series too. Didn’t know. Subscribed now so I can follow along 🙂Seems you’re going all the way.
Nordic RC Visions thank you so much for the sub. You are the biggest channel to sub to me and that means a lot. My series is just about over. I don’t want to have too much metal for flexibility but I did want to completely change over the driveline to metal. My new wheels and metal drive shaft cover just arrived so I will be making a little completion video to the series in this coming week. Then you can see the car run afterwards. I am also thinking of doing the 540 motor upgrade as well but for now I think I’m done.
Could you give some tips on how to remove the motor gear at 2:31, what tools are required for that. Thanks!
You will need a Phillips head screw driver to take the plastic gear cover off and then a hex head screw driver to remove the motor gear. Its that simple.
Do know where I can bye a drive shaft for wltoys a979b. And metle gears and bearings.
I have links to most of the parts you need in the video description. If you can’t find the link you are looking for I do have other videos I made of upgrading almost everything to metal on my A959. Check in the video descriptions for those links.
Love your car nice and clean, you should see mine, only clean most important places 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cam row drone thanks. I only had it out twice before doing these upgrades. I will have to check out your car.
Your videos are great! Im pretty new to RC cars. I just bought the 979B and i pretty i will be upgrading parts also. I wanted to look into more ground clearance. Do you know how you would increase the ground clearance of your RC car since the parts are interchangeable between the models?
Brandon Johnson thank you! I’m glad you like the videos. The only suggestion I have to gaining more ground clearance is maybe buying bigger wheels meant for a bigger scale car. The A959 is a 1/18 scale so if you get wheels for a 1/16 or even a 1/12 scale vehicle that would give you a little more clearance. Just be sure of the wheel hub size before purchasing your wheels because a bigger wheel may require a bigger wheel hub nut.
I have the same car and the plastic gear is striped and I can not figure out how to get it off. But good video.
@@Wmacrum heat!
Sir, Is the pinion gear also broke? Why yu instal new pinion gear?
I wish I would’ve just bought all the upgrades and saved myself $60 and just replaced the electronics.
Did you oil or grease any parts? Which ones oiled? Which ones greased? Thanks.
Yep I greased everything in the diff
what would happen if you did not have the metal centre drive shaft, but had the default stock plastic one, would it still work, with all the other stuff full metal upgrades ?
As long as the gear meshes with it and matches up, I don’t know why it wouldn’t work. There’s nothing different other than what material it’s made of.
@@ReadytoRunRC cheers i bought one today from another person with full metal upgrades, however he bought a new drive shaft and said the following "And drive shaft I changed the diffs to metal in doing so screw snapped in drive shaft I bought a new one but it’s to long" what do you think, perhaps i can go to my friends garage and sand down the new drive shaft ?
@@monkeytrident I have no idea which drive shaft he bought or how much longer it is. I know nothing about whatever drive shaft you have so I can’t really tell you what to do. Maybe try buying a drive shaft meant for that car that’s the correct length. Good luck.
What tools do you have and what sizes are they?
Sage Z I have a dynamite hobby tool kit which has flat head, Phillips head and hex head drivers in the kit but almost all of the screws on the A959 are a Phillips head screws. I am not sure the exact size of them.
Did you grease the diffs?
I did.
😰it's great I'm amazed I want to open the dynamo gear I need help until it's broken until now I can't open it 🗿
3rd like bro it's looking sweet
RC Drones And More thanks man. I’m pretty excited at how well it’s going together and looking. I started putting the upgraded suspension arms on tonight so that video should be done possibly tomorrow night or Wednesday.
What is the gear pitch on the wltoys a959b pinion?
🤷♂️
Looking it up on google, it looks like it’s 0.7 mod
@@ReadytoRunRC Ok thanks!
Doesnt fit version A😢
No Grease On Those Diffs?
Rc_ KiNg I did grease them but I didn’t show it.
@@ReadytoRunRC lol ahh okay
Polish the motor with mothers polish until your Motor looks chrome
Bass Man I will have to give that a try.
@@ReadytoRunRC work for me Crazy Good looks like a mirror
What happened to the music in this video lol
Logan Grilliot Vlogs it came up as a copyright claim months after I made the video so I had to remove it to be able to keep it monetized.
Logan Grilliot Vlogs but I just watched the video to see what exactly you were talking about and wow UA-cam really messed it up. I had the option in UA-cam studio to remove the music. They completely failed on doing that but atleast my video is still monetized.
Ah I see
Wtf is that music, you've got several songs playing over the top of each other?
Alex Oakes yeah I got a copyright strike so I went on UA-cam studio to remove the old song and replace it with another and somehow it overlapped the 2 songs with each other. I can’t fix it.
😨
Yep It just sounded so cursed
