I know these albums get a lot of hate, but they've aged pretty well in my book. Also in my opinion some of Jason Newsteds best work
Amazing albums, they were way ahead of their time I think that's the reason so many people didn't like them,Newsteds playing was fantastic on these albums. He is,in my opinion the best bassist metallica ever had
No. They haven’t.
In the se albums you can listen bass louder than never in Metallica. He enjoyed to play on these because were more eclectic, what felt better to him at that time. He never had to left the band, but there were crazy and sad moments for them. Some kind of monster is an album that never should be recorded. It is not for people, it was something they needed for themselves, in my opinion.
Haha Kirk’s face says it all.
Controversial opinion: Load is a better album than the Black Albun
I personally love Load and ReLoad. Crunchy, groovy, full of attitude. Good stuff.
Some man shit lol
I’m here. 💪🏻
They're awesome albums
I agree man see this is a thing Metallica realized that if they regurgitate the same shit over and over again and gave everyone thrash metal they would eventually die out and be relevant and maybe with a lot of fans wanted but then never reach the status of rock/metal icons that they are today so they had the foresight to know this may not be what they want but this is going to expand our catalog and we’re gonna do something with great vocals grade bluesy crunchy ribs catchy hooks
@@chefhetfield FINALLY! Someone gets it!
I love load, but reload is def meh.
I know it is in Reload.... but damn we need Fixxxer live!
FACTS
Yeah
And the house that jack built
I agree with you 100% I wished they had put it on s&m 2 myself
Reload is hated just because people who were metalheads ten years before us told us to hate it. I don't let any fucking one tell me what to like. So my top 3 for metallica's songs is Master of puppets, Of wolf and man, and Fixxxer (in no particular order). Reload was my first Metal Album, I was 14 yo coming from the mtv's top ten charts, italian pop music and such stuff. Compared to that "Unforgiven 2" was and eye-opening experience. I wouldn't have discovered the whole world behind it if it wasn't for Reload.
We need Fixxxer live, anyway.
i love Load era of Metallica. Load is incredible stuff
Never understood the hate for this album. Shit is so fucking fire 🔥
Because Metallica accused many bands of being "sold out" or popular like "Motley Crue" and it ended the same, the funny thing is that many fans left but many more arrived with those albums and that's why it went from being Thrash to pop.
Because they did a big change. It's like wondering why a meat eater stopped going to a restaurant that started a vegan only menu.
Shit is so fucking fire - good song peace!
when you realize how amazing this album is you just can't get enough of it!
If we're talking best live performances of all Load songs, then Bleeding Me at Woodstock '99 has to be on here
Bleeding Me Woodstock is epic, my favorite is Bulgaria ‘99, check that one out.
@@kylebell6955 most epic spit in history (before i am the beast that feeds the beast)
@@smnsmnsmnsmnsmn YES! I’ve always love that part. James has always been one of the most prolific spitters in history. I’m glad there are other people who appreciate that, haha
For sure. James was in his feelings on that one.
@@cjmcdannel116 seems like he always was on Bleeding Me. Such an underrated song, it’s in my top 5
LOAD / ReLOAD are the most underrated albums. They’re true masterpieces
Loving Jason's basslines and tone!
Load and Reload are some reeally good albums. They tried something absolutely different and they succeeded
It took awhile to be respected
I love Thrash Metal and Metallicas first four albums, but damn this is good. It’s not like those albums disappear if I also like this.
Ditto.
I agree, the first 4 are the reason I got into many thrash bands and eventually into death metal in my teens
but the black album was my first introduction to metal as a kid, and til this day to me a classic heavy metal album.
moving forward to load and reload, it took me a few weeks to finally get it, I won’t lie I fell asleep listening midway through at times 😅
but in my 40s I’ve grown to enjoy it a lot more. is it Metallica’s greatest? no but I do enjoy for what it is.
I’ll never understand fans who want their favourite bands to keep releasing the same album. Great bands evolve and experiment. If you’re not a fan of the direction, the albums you love will always be there to enjoy.
This is fantastic album. Too bad extreme metal heads didn't get it. A mature and seasoned band, trying new sounds and grooves. That's a necessary twist for any creative band. This album had to happen. Load and reload are very good albums.
I agree. I used to not care much for Reload because it seemed more like the reject album but hell it definitely grew on me. It's got great songs like Fuel, Memory Remains, Devil's Dance, Where the Wild Things Are, Low Man's Lyrics, Fixxxer, Unforgiven 2, Bad Seed, Better than You
Luckily this was my first Metallica album. If you listen to the old albums first then you will not like it!
@@DragonSlayer-hw8wl Exactly 💯, this is the same storie from me! So far away the 90's their are ! 🥲😇
@gustabartok your statement about Load and Reload's Era are not wrong at all, but listen up, Pantera and Sepultura during the 90's got heavier instead of what metallica did and got huge respect and success from the metal fans and everything else worldwide, period.
@@AndreLuis-oo6bfand who’s on top today? Pantera was great, sepultura was great, Metallica is Great. They knew they’d have to change a bit not only to stay relevant but to keep from going crazy playing the same songs over and over. Mix up their set lists a bit. I like their entire catalog each album is slightly different, you can even hear a change between Kill and Ride, a maturity. It’s good to see them still going strong.
Jason we miss you, what a solid bass player, one of the best.
I know I am 2 years late to this, but I think Jason was great, but I think Rob really stepped up and delivered some of there weirdest but coolest material.
I don’t know man, I like Robert and everything but I like the sound of Jason’s era better, I was a teen in the 90’s so you can understand 🙂.
Jason may not be the best technically, but he WAS Metallica.
Jason was pretty proficient technically. His bass work on AJFA was really fantastic. The problem is that he was in a band where Lars and James controlled everything. They will say he played it too safe and to be fair, how do you step into that space that cliff burton vacated?
@@forafraudemia3747cliff was. But jason was cool 2nd singer
The outlaw torn is amazing. LOVE It.
No matter what people might say about this album, it's an album I keep listening to. My personal favorite tracks: bleeding me and mama said
First, let me say I love Load, and I liked it when it came out. It has only gotten better for me. But it’s hard for metalheads who weren’t there then to understand. We were all still riding this high from the Black Album, which was beautiful and perfect and went so far in validating our lifestyle and music. We waited a LONG time for Load. Anyone who knows Metallica should have known this album would be pretty different-just the evolution of James’ voice, and I remember telling my friends this, but they were all expecting Black Album II. It was hard being a metalhead in 1995; we’d gone from being kings to pariahs. Despite the fact that Anthrax and other bands were coming out with killer albums, everyone was looking to Metallica to sort of save what was happening. Let’s be clear: it was not a good time to be a metalhead in the mid-90s. We were seen as childish and immature for our Iron Maiden shirts. Laughed at, clowned on. And when Metallica came out with Load, a lot of people saw it as a betrayal, as Metallica turning their backs on us, Metallica telling us we were no longer valid and they no longer were with us. Like I said, I liked Load when it came out, I bought it the day it came out, but when I heard Until It Sleeps on the radio a couple months prior, I remember thinking, “Oh, no. I was right.” A lot of people still haven’t gotten over that feeling and still harbor that resentment. Load’s a great record (Outlaw Torn!! fuck yeah!!) and Reload has some killer cuts on it, but metalheads really needed something different to kick metal back into being socially acceptable. Of course, a few years later, and dancers are wearing Maiden shirts in Justin Timberlake videos and metal has been cool ever since. But the fucking 90s were a difficult time to be metalheads, and Metallica, it seemed to a lot of people, abandoned us when we needed them most. OF COURSE, people say that about Anthrax, too, that they slowed down and became grungy, but they put out their hardest and fastest albums at that time, and metalheads cried about that, too, so really, the moral is: metalheads will never be happy with their heroes no matter what they do. Fucking Load is awesome and always has been!
album load is very underrated, in my opinion one of the best of metallica.
I personally don’t like Black album but I love Load
I'm not that into 80s Metallica but Load/ Reload & St Anger are unforgettable albums for me
@@RonnieRonnie3697Damn it’s actually extremely refreshing to hear someone with an opinion like that. It’s almost cliche to always say “The first 5 albums were amazing, while load was just alright, and St Anger was terrible”. Never heard someone claim to completely love this specific era alone. Because honestly it was still a kickass time. St Anger was a pretty damn good catchy album with a lot of anger, and people hated it for being different. Same with Load and Reload being real bluesy and just overall a smooth listen that hits you more in the feels. I still prefer the first five as a metal head, but I can’t deny that those albums hit me a lot more emotionally. Again, it’s just nice seeing someone with a different opinion
Really well stated. I was a freshman in high school and this album was love hate for me. Now I love the album. Key thing you mentioned grungy. Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam , smashing pumpkins, bush etc… we’re taking over. I know there had to be a bit of influence from record companies. But they were trying to compete but keep it still Metallica heavy and it worked, because those shoes all sold out.
Idk who hates these albums. Fkng great, both of them, Love them dearly.
Nice inclusion of 1995 2x4 live debut, even though it was one year before load was released.
It was actually the 2nd performance of 2x4. They'd played a warm up show with COC previously. Oh and I was at Donnington '95 😉
I was at both the warm up show at the La2 in London and Monsters of Rock, great fucking week! 🤘🏻

jesus really? thats messed up
This live version of 2x4 sounds better than few years later recorded one. Especially the middle part of the 2x4 solo that James played here. The sound, the feelm the rhytm...He actually outclassed Kirk with this one. I watched Metallica in 94 @ Woodstock during their transformation period and I really believe they were in their prime back then although their expression was kinda grungy alright...and there was Jaysun, their biggest fan, raising their power, pushing 200% each and every night. That's clear as day...
One of my favorite Metallica albums! Listened to it hundreds of times. In fact every Saturday while cleaning the house I listened to it for years...
This era wasn’t bad at all I think the load album is actually pretty badass. Good shit thanks for uploading!!
man James is the hardest working guy. To play guitar like he does, to write like he does, to sing like he does, and tour like he does. He's an incredible musician!
Damn, what a tracklist. Any lesser band, Load would have passed as a Greatest Hits album.
Bleeding me and Outlaw thorn are the ultimate masterpieces of their catalogue imo
I loved both these albums. Saw them live at lollapalooza when load came out and it was awesome. Just saw them in Detroit & they still got it after all these years.
Load kicks ass. And it's a great sounding album.
How is there not one good video of The House That Jack Built? That's easily my favorite off of Load.
They never play it live
Great tune, really not any live version ever?
Bands need to stop making songs that they can’t play live.
@@H.E.M. They can they just dont want it
@@H.E.M. Or do a different version of it live like NIN has done all these years. Different genre of course but the point stands.
Nostalgia! Thanks for putting this together. It's a great watch from the time machine. Sad to see it as if it was the last time they seemed to really be into what they were doing
Agreed, love Metallica, dig their latest albums as well but I get what you mean!
And everyone hated them for it...
I think st anger was their true last "real" album. The latest albums are ok, they have great songs really, but i feel it emotion less and plastic
death magnetic sounds so forced to me. still a terrific album.
@@ThisCreepingLife i agree. death magnetic especially sounds so forced.
Thank you and God bless you a million times for sharing all of this with us. Load and Reload is excellent music and so bad ass live. So many of our missing the 80's and 90's really bad. Ready to go back.
Thanks for making this
Love this album 🤘🏼🏴☠️🔥
It's a good one!
Como The God That Failed, un temón !!!
Jason doing those backing vocals on Bleeding Me is soooooo fucking great!!!
Love that idea to put song full album in live, Thank you for this video!!!
Cunning stunts has the best performance of Until it Sleeps. Jason and James had absolutely perfect harmony
That was my first concert ever. 1997 in Cincinnati. Blew my mind
@@leehasselbeck453 the cunning stunts was fort Worth Texas.
Understood. Same tour. Same set. Same band.
I prefer the MTV performance though. Sound and vocal wise it sounded a lot heavier and more grit in their voices.
I have been a fan since I was kid and got Kill Em All/Ride The Lightning the same day. Growing up in the Bay Area, it was Mandatory Metallica.. saw a few of their pop up shows around the Bay. When Load and ReLoad came out. I was still a huge fan. Thought the albums were great. They grooved and Metallica nailed the vibe of that era but made it their own..
James approaching to the mic...
Lars: All right enough, thank you!
James: Cheers!

Que buen bajista era Jason. Mis nuevos audífonos full bass me hacen escuchar clarito sus arreglos
De acuerdo!!! Subvaluado por James & Lars!!! Tremendo bajista

En esta versión de Aint my bitch se le oye Perfecto . Un manjar 👌🏽
Cantando tambien era especial
Shame cure was never performed live, one of my favourites on load, along with ronnie and would love to hear a full band version of mama said live.
Agreed, one of my favorites now. Regretably, I used to always skip Cure, assuming it would just be filler. Then I finally heard the "betting on the cure" chorus section, and realized the error of my way.
..If I could have my wasted days back, would I use them to not skip Load's 8th track?
@@shadowledastray Underrated comment.
Personally not a fan of Cure and Ronnie (oof...), but damn seeing this live performance of Mama Said again after many years, this needs a full band live performance! Also, man, James' vocal performance with Wasting My Hate! \m/
All of these songs remind me of my childhood growing up in the early 90s
I remember hearing that live version of 2x4 years before Load came out. They really took the fun out of it for the studio version.
MAN! Listen to those Jason Newsted lead ins....
He's just in the pocket every time! His live vocals are great too i don't know if there's any here. I'm on king nothing
@@Se7enDsinSGaming It would only be the good version if Jason didn't sing. His voice is the worse. Dumb frog voice. Guess he missed the metal memo back in the 80's. Followed something, and put all his effort into something, that wasn't even a metal trait to begin with. And he mislead a lot of impressionable kids into thinking that the way he sung is actual metal vocals. They aren't. Not to mention the way he acts. Like, trying a bit too hard, at something that doesn't come naturally to him, so he just looks awkward the whole time. And again, misleading the youth into thinking THAT is an acceptable way to act. For the rest of us, he acts like a dork, and we all saw right through it. Just sucks that so many kids were tricked into acting like him. Really put a giant stain on the metal community with those dorks infiltrating. It's a sad, sad story. It sucks the standard was lowered by accident. Nerds and wusses aren't metal. Those are the kids we used to make fun of and beat up, not try to act like... Smh.
@@adameves5970 Ahh yes. We forgot that there's only one way to be metal and zero room for diverse personalities within the community.

I think the one thing that rarely gets mentioned about the Load era is how insanely good Kirk's guitar work is.
It's not crazy technical, but the texture, inventiveness, musicality and pure service to the music he showed on those two albums is a huge part of why they're such good albums.
Until it sleeps is my all time favorite metallica song.

ABSOLFUKINLUTLY AMAZING!!!

I'm a Silverchair fan, and Daniel Johns (lead singer/guitar) went from grunge to electronic pop music.

Load is one of Metallica's best albums in my opinion. What most (so-called) fans don't seem to understand is 1. Metallica is an experimental band and 2. This is part of their grunge metal phase. I also really like how James sprinkles a little blues into his riffs too. And say what you want about Metallica but anyone with a band would give their right leg to be as popular around the world as these guys.
