- Nolan N44 Helmet Review www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/no... The Nolan N44 is an evolution of the N43E Trilogy that has been redesigned from the ground up. The new N44 features updates to the shell, venting, faceshield, fit, and sun visor. The N44 features an all-new polycarb, DOT approved shell that now is done in 2 shell sizes that allows for an expanded fit. The new venting system, called the Airbooster Airflow System uses a "shark-gill" approach that has a central air-in vent and active side vents with small turbines that increase the venturi effect when the helmet is at speed. The faceshield, which now also incorporates a vent, is dramatically larger than the N43E and has one of the industy's best FOV. The new fit is more encompassing and less round than the N43E and should fit a wider range of riders. The new internal sun visor has 2 detents allowing the rider to choose a higher or lower position, depending on facial structure (read: big schnoz). A new extended visor peak can be installed in lieu of the faceshield for riders who prefer goggles or solely the internal sun visor. The N44 is still a component helmet that can be configured in six different ways, depending on rider preferences and still uses a micro-metric quick release chin strap. The N44 is offered in a variety of solid colors and a few graphics and in sizes 2XS-3XL.

Be sure to take a look at Nolan's current iteration of this helmet, the Nolan N40-5! www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/nolan-n40-5-helmet
I love this helmet. Been using it for about a year now. Love that its modular. In New England we have cold mornings and warm afternoons. Closed face in the morning and open face in the afternoon. As Anthony said the aftermarket comm system is not recommend. Well, I'm using the Sena SMH10 and it works awesome. No problem wiring it up or fitting all the wires in.
Been using it for 2 months. Its super comfortable. The visor fully closed blocks out almost all the wind. And it's easy to care for. Haven't fully tried taking out the interior.
Would recommend this if you don't like wearing full face for extended periods cos this give better vision and is more comfortable. I haven't ridden without the chin bar cos it's better with it on. N44 combines the best of open and full face helmets in my opinion and is not as heavy as modular.
Thanks. Took it on training in US.
So how about the air vents ? Do they cool your head ? Is it noisy ? would you prefer the new Nolan N70-2 GT with smaller air vents ?
I purchased this helmet for our resent 12k mile trip to Alaska. So glad I did! The drop down sun shade was invaluable with the Alaska sun so low in the sky. The pinlock was just the ticket for keeping the shield clear while my buddies much more expensive Shoei was useless in the rain. The shield also comes down low enough to keep the rain from running down your chest. I have no experience with the N-com bluetooth headset but the basic headset is junk. Save your money.Get the J&M.
My shoei z7 has pinlocks too, never had a problem with fog or rain. It is very light weight, very comfortable for long rides
My inner visor on my Nolan N44 will not come down or retract how do I fix it
Chin guard looks like it would snap off with the smallest impact.
My inner visor will not come down or retract… how do I fix it
is the chin bar sold separately on the site?? mine is lost. I have the older version.
thank you
one of my favorite, using with pleasure!
I had absolutely no idea what you said in the opening... UPDATE: ok gotdit. appreciated.
my father have a nolan n44 grey color
Will a Sena 10S fit on this? If it does, which method should I mount it?
Yes, the Sena 10S can mount, but you would need to use the adhesive mount. The clamp mount does not work easily with the gasket around the helmet opening. -DrewZilla
How do these types of helmets with the removable china guard fair in a face impact with the ground?
They do better than helmets without a chin guard but not as well as full-face helmets. -DrewZilla
What's the difference between the n44, classic, and evo?
I notice the plain n44 has 3xl and the evo has only 2xl but it says its shell size fits 3xl heads? Does that mean I have to remove a lot of padding or something to get it to 3xl?
Thsnks
Classic just refers to the solid paint color. The EVO is the same as the older N44 except with updated interior materials. To get 3XL in the EVO, you would have to get a 3XL liner. You cannot just remove part of the padding from a 2XL. If you need 3XL, I recommend just getting a 3XL. Here in the US, though, the older N44 is discontinued. There is only the N44 EVO. -DrewZilla
RevZilla oh I found it I didn't know that's what I was looking for. I appreciate it.
Without D-rings, we can't lock the helmet to the outside of the bike without a separate cable. Fail.
I am looking for a quiet helmet, could you recommend one for me please? anything but a Schuberth though since sadly Schuberth helmets are not AS1698 compliant (Australia) AFAIK. However I haven't found any information that specifically says whether they are compliant or not; but since I've yet to find an Australian store that stocks Schuberth helmets (online or otherwise) i'll assume that they are not allowed.
imoninternets I apologize, but helmets purchased from RevZilla (or any other US dealer) are US DOT certified and they will NOT include an AUS standards sticker. AFAIK, Schuberth is imported into New Zealand, and isn't AS/NZ 1698 a joint certification? Otherwise, I'd try to find a Shoei Neotec or Shoei GT-Air. -DrewZilla
So your saying this helmet does not play nice with Sena. I am planning on picking up the Sena 20S. Is the problem with boom length or just that there is no real place to mount the intercom unit?
It's a mixture of both. Nolan didn't leave much room on the left side to stick a universal Bluetooth unit. Since there isn't much room, a universal Bluetooth unit is forced to mount back past the ear, creating a microphone length issue . -Hi-Viz Brian
Would anyone have any advice on fixing the retractable visor? I dropped my helmet recently and now it sticks. Hoping it's fixable and would appreciate any guidance anyone might have.
+Jeff Eckart You may want to reach out to Nolan USA (CIMA International) to troubleshoot your visor issue. They can be reached at 866-243-5638. Hope this helps! -DrewZilla
i really like the way this Nolan N44 looks. but I was wondering, how is the fit for a person that have to wear eyeglasses ??
Thanks for your help..
Keith Mori It's tough to know exactly how your glasses will fit inside the N44 without trying it on because your facial profile and glass frames will determine the fit. I tried on the N44 with a pair of sunglasses and didn't have any issues. -Hi-Viz Brian
* www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/nolan-n44/review.htm
Keith Mori It works absolutely fine with N43 and should with N44 too.
Yep. I can wear my glasses just fine..love this Nolan N44
I have this helmet in large and sunglasses fit with no problem
You mentioned that this is difficult to use with other coms systems. I wanted to get the Sena 20S. Would that work with this helmet, or is there a different comparable helmet that you might recommend?
Due to the shape and construction of the gasket surrounding the neck roll and opening of the helmet, it's difficult to mount the Sena 20S with its clamp mount. The N44 is pretty unique with its removable chin bar design, so if you really like that design, you would need to mount a Sena 20S with its included adhesive mount instead. -DrewZilla
So with the chin bar on is the chin protection the same as a full face helmet?
The chin bar does provide impact protection, so while it isn't quite the same as a full-face, it is very very close for protection. -DrewZilla
What could you tell me with regard to wind and cold protection instead? Is it similar to a full helmet with a wider chin? Thank you
Does this come with the anti fog pin lock shield or do you have to buy it separately just curious. The helmet I got now has one. Or it fog instantly in the morning. And was look at this because of the better air flow it look like it has to the modular helmet I got now
The N44 EVO, which replaced this now-discontinued N44, does include a Pinlock Insert in the box. -DrewZilla

Hello, RevZilla Team! I have a long oval head shape and I currently have an Arai Signet-Q which is a perfect fit. In your expert opinion, would this N44 fit me well?
No, the N44 has an intermediate oval head shape, so there will not be enough room front to back. You'd likely experience a lot of forehead pressure. Instead, it's best to stick to a long oval helmet. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/long-oval-helmets
What is the pin lock Lens used for ? The ratchet strap way too short can you extend it somehow ? If you buy a second Face shield it doesn't come with the Chin vent and changing it is a real bitch !
+Greg Zimpher The Pinlock Lens is an anti-fog insert. The insert material is designed to absorb moisture as well as prevent fog from forming on the lens insert's surface. As for the ratchet strap, yes, you can adjust the nylon webbing strap to which the ratchet strip is attached. -DrewZilla
Nice job...so do you think that sena 10R will fit Nolan N44?
Thanx for review
Yes, the Sena 10R will fit the Nolan N44. -DrewZilla

I have the N43, very happy with it but i miss a few things. The vent in the front of the visor of the N43 is always open, i use electric tape to close it. Where as the N44 has a vent you can close and open. Very nice improvment!
BUT none of them can have a cap on at the same time as having the visor on, wich i think is sad. HJC helmet has it tough, but that one is not as nice as Nolan's hybridhelmets N43 and N44. I do think the N43 look a bit better designwise, but im gonna buy the N44, im curoius in how it will compare to the N43 :)
I really like the whole improvement of the removable chinpeace at N44, the vent and the cloth material at the bottom of it, very important improvement that too.
Replacing d-ring with a ratchet is a silly design change for this helmet. I like the ratchet system in principle but not on open face or jet helmets. Now there is absolutely no way to lock the helmet to the bike. On the old N43 I would just feed the lock through the d-ring.
Vlad Pavlov www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/schuberth-helmetlok
@revzill Does the N44 fits a CAARDO wirless system?
The N44 will only fit a Cardo system if you use one of Cardo's included adhesive mounts. Due to the design of the gasket around the base of the N44, you cannot use Cardo's standard clamp mount. -DrewZilla
thank you very muchh!!!
Finally!
I like the optic of the big visor a lot, I looks a Firefighter helmet, however I would prefer an actual full face helmet with a visor like that (so overlapping the chin) Is there a helmet like that in existence?
Also why aren't there any polarized sun visors on motorcycle helmets?
maybe they technically can't polarise the perspex/acrylic that it's made from?
I thought that as well, but I have sunglasses of exactly the same material.
My colleague said I could be due to not being able to see wet surfaces on the road, personally I think I could see it even better with polarised glasses. Sometimes I even see better at night with polarised sunglasses because of the contrast.
The only full-face helmet I can think of with a thin chin bar like the N44 is the Bell Bullitt (www.revzilla.com/bell-bullitt-helmets), but the Bullitt is a retro-styled helmet, so it may or may not appeal to you. As for polarization, my experience is that polarized lenses can cause aberrations when light passes through a clear shield and then through the polarized lens. I haven't been able to find a specific regulation as to why they may or may not be allowed though. -DrewZilla
@Ton Ewals, try the Icon Airflite
This helmet is soooo cool! Makes you look like a gundam meister!
It looks like upgraded firefighter helmet
Do you think you could ride with the outer shield in the full up position?
Jeff Bowe You can but it will throw off the helmet's aerodynamics and the face shield will close as the wind resistance builds. -Hi-Viz Brian
My Icon helmets do that at about 50 mph, but my Scorpions and Hawk do not. Yes, I have a habit of buying helmets. More air in hot slow traffic is nice. Thanks.
Hi
Is the chin guard crash rated or just for looks/comfort?
Thanks
TheSweetestBling There is no specific "crash rating" on just the chinbar, but it will provide more impact protection than a regular 3/4 open face helmet but perhaps not as much impact protection as a true full-face helmet. -DrewZilla
+TheSweetestBling In eu has double rating, is rated as jet and as full face.
They are legally constrained, so here's the deal.
In the EU it's rated with and without chin, meets all EU standards or it would have to say "NP" (no-protective) on the chin bar for EU sales.
So it's a rated 3/4ths and a rated full face. Mind you, it's not SNELL rated and has no SHARP rating, but it does meet basic standards.
At this point I will not buy a modular/flip face without a SHARP rating, since they test multiple units and tell you how often the chin guards flip out of place. So far, only two modulars have gotten 100% on that test.
Can you have the beak on at the same time as the face shield?
+Adam W No, you cannot use the peak and the face shield simultaneously. The six configurations are: shield only, chin only, peak only, shield and chin, peak and chin, and finally just the helmet without anything attached. -DrewZilla
The only con about this helmet it is not pnp compatible for intercom devices except n-com which is not everyone using n-com and it sucks
why discontinue this helmet? it looks pretty cool
They just updated the liner and called it the N44 EVO. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/nolan-n44-evo-helmet
RevZilla is that the only diff?
As far as we know, that's the only difference. Nolan hasn't mentioned any other major changes. -DrewZilla
Can I mount my Uclear Bluetooth to this helmet without using the double sided tape?
+Mohd Aydel Jury No, the thick rubber gasket at the base of the helmet precludes you from using the spring clip clamp. Your only option is to use the adhesive mount. -DrewZilla
Ok Thanks.
Great vid! THX
1. Buy blue with white
2. Switch N for D
3. ???
4. Profit
How does RevZilla measure fit?
We measure size by circumference around the crown of the head. We measure fit relative to other helmets in the market. The average American head shape is intermediate oval. Some people have a longer/narrower head shape, while others have a rounder head shape around the crown. Our categorization of helmet fit is based on trying on lots of helmets. -DrewZilla
Thanks. Since there is a lot of soft interior padding, I wonder how much the padding compresses when measured. I could see how there could be some variation, unless you measure the same way each time.
We aren't measuring the helmet, we're measuring our own heads. Our skulls don't really compress when using a cloth tape measure haha! The manufacturer states each size in terms of a centimeter range. My head measures 57.5cm, and most brands list 57-58cm as size medium. I have an intermediate oval head shape. If I put a size medium helmet on and feel forehead pressure, that helmet is likely a round oval shape. If I put a helmet on and feel pressure on the sides of my head above the ears, that helmet is likely a narrow oval/long oval shape. If I put on a helmet that is consistently snug but not tight around the crown of my head, it's likely intermediate oval and true to size. When we try on a lot of helmets, it makes it easier for us to determine helmet size and shape. Hopefully this makes sense. -DrewZilla
I found that your channel and store is the biggest on the web/youtube.... So i think there´s no one better than you to suggest me a helmet.... Actually, i have some issues with my cervical, so i cannot tolerate much weight on my head, but.... I do live in Argentina, and the weather here is mostly hot.... Reason why i´m checking on modular helmets, but they´re heavier than integral ones.... I do really need, a very vented helmet, as lightweight as possible..... Now a day I keep my GIVI x01 helmet, with the summer chinbar wich with any of both chinbars and over 100 km/h, is like having a noodle strainer on my head.... as the wind scream over every hole... Just to add some skills to your suggestion, I do have a GSXR 1100, it means that becouse of the riding possition, the whole helmet weight should be holded by my neck..... Any suggestion will be great, and also.... would like to know if you ship to Argentina too.... Thanks a lot!!
Below is a detailed list of helmets and their weights. How much weight can you tolerate? -Hi-Viz Brian
* www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmet-weights.htm
Wow!, the list is amazing.... there´s brands i don´t even know about.... How much weight can I tolerate?, don´t know.... there´s no such of specific medical indication.... the lighter the better i think.... But there´s features that i won´t lose... for example: sun visor, and modular is a plus.... may be exchangeable chin bars.... I think that the Lazer Monaco Pure Carbon is the one!... Do you ship to Argentina??.... Thank you very much!, Issue almost solved with 1 reply! hehe....
Matias Goldenberg You are very welcome! We can ship LaZer helmets to Argentina. For more information on our international shipping policies, have a look a the link below. -Hi-Viz Brian

Why does the model look as if he was forced to do it?
Tarek Hamouda As payment for their services, our models get to choose between chocolate cake and a slap in the face. This one didn't have much of a sweet tooth. -Kraus-e
RevZilla So you slapped him on the face??!! why!! poor guy must be terrorized, I'm never buying your products ever!!!!!!
that doesn´t look so safe for an impact
Santi Baez It's all about the balance between protection, comfort, and convenience. -Hi-Viz Brian
Ryan on FortNine did a torture test and it got 7 out of 9 and the strongest part was the front chin piece. Surprised him too.
Where is this decide and ride guy... but too much glass on your face,,,
Change the T-shirt

A bit ugly tbh.
