You'd actually would want fungi with your potatoes since mycorrhizal fungi enhances root growth and makes them much stronger aka bigger tuber and less risk of root rot since root rot comes from lack of oxygen and bacteria or fungi attacks (edited to add the reason why is because that fungi out competes others making it difficult for other fungi to harm your plants that would some are harmful and some are beneficial)
