Z790 Carbon was producing errors for me with stock XMP 7200cl34 - the Gigabyte had no problems. Also, the new "low latency" and "high bandwidth" options are insane - significant increases in performance and latency without changing the frequency or any timings, while being totally stable in Karhu and Y-Cruncher. The only problem is the coil whine, and I have to disable c-states in order for it to be manageable... so no single core boosts, which are mostly useless in real-world situations anyway, but I shouldn't have to be dealing with this for a $500 board.

Try setting the acoustic noise options to divide by 8. Disabling c-states also helps, though it won't allow for boosting depending on your OC (but all core usage is still the vast majority of workloads including gaming). The coil whine is mostly manageable for me now with these changes.
The only problem i have is that my system wigs out when i try to get the full potential of my 128gb ddr5 every time i try to get the full 6000mhz it just goes into a boot loop or it posts the crashes, i might just be doing things wrong but then again might not be ready for 128gb yet. My fav motherboard ruined by how much audio jacks available this series. Yeah you can talk about fibre audio. but thats another whole cost you got to fork out. when its good surround and cheaper to run front speakers, rear speakers, sub and mid all on three ports. plus headphone and mic on two more. so thats 5 needed, then you can have another port for either a line in like an instrument, or it usually allows you to add another set of speakers, to make 7.1. Yeah you will likely lack spatiaal dolby digital down the 7.1, but when you run through Kodi or a supporting app you can get true surround sound movies, also games are true. Then if you really want the rest of your apps and music to run properly down all 7.1 speakers, just turn on your stereo mix on your headphones as default, turn dolby on, then listen to stereo mix down your speakers. Looks like the majority of motherboards for the 14th gen processors have cheaped out here, thanks for your review but defenately gonna give this series a miss
I'm confused; Trying to buy a customised PC off PCSpecialists -- want to get 64GB of RAM... opted the Corsair's DDR5 Vengeance (6000MHz, 2x32GB), and I've been told it's compatible with this MB but not the ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero despite being the same specs relatively... what gives?
When assembling the computer, I noticed that the motherboard has problems with beeping, buzzing similar to coilwhine. I took a video of where this unpleasant sound originates, it is very annoying to the ears. The reason is at the control panel where there are plugs for usb, video output, plug for internet. I removed all the components from the motherboard Gigabyte Aorus master z790. But the annoying sound is there. Please help me, what should I do? I also replaced it with a power supply, but it doesn't help. @@maulcs I tried everything. Nothing helped. I also switched off C states and changed the acoustic from 16/8 so I sent it back to the store, rma. What settings did you make to get rid of the coilwhine, acoustic 8 in? Did it help?
@@Mixman39 8 for both (16 didn't really help), and c-states disabled - most of the time it's a lot less noticeable now, it used to be quite loud at idle, really piercing my ears. I actually bought a Z790 Carbon as a replacement, but it couldn't get my 7200cl34 RAM entirely stable, and the "low latency" and "high bandwidth" options on the Master are pretty incredible with significant increases in performance and latency without changing any timings. So I decided to keep the Master and deal with the whine, because otherwise I wouldn't be getting the performance I wanted. I also moved my computer into a different position - it's not perfect, but that along with the above settings certainly helped to where it doesn't really bother me anymore.

Can you comment on the rumour that the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, coming in January 2023, will be a staggering 30% Faster than the Intel Core i9-13900K, courtesy of it's ~200MB 3D Cache? If it's true, AMD is about to SMASH all the competition with a HUGE lead on the best gaming CPU in the world, won't it?
You are correct in principle however the real pain with M.2 has been the tiny screws that fight against the springing action of the SSD so this is genuinely a useful step forward Leo
the highest award for a single line in / out connection is unjustifiable (for the high price) Also the sound chip is not good. It wasn`t even mentioned in the "Cons" section.
That's a single cabled network connection - you also have WiFi. We are well aware that some products (many products?) either hit solidly or miss completely. Leo
The pcie slot layout is totally stupid. A board for maybe overclocking testbench duty at best. It’s a nice board but what’s a reasonable usecase? Sadly a waste of effort I my opinion.
The power consumption is not bad, it’s consumes a lot because it’s not limited so it will get the max performance it can. So if you limit it then you’ll be just as good as the others.
You shouldn't be just putting a 'pea-sized' amount of thermal compound on your CPU's. It has been proven in many tests that the flat-spread method yields better thermal results. Usually 4-5c cooler. Should be using TGrizzly Kryonaut paste (when not just test benching, but on the real build), and should also be putting on a Thermalright contact frame and reduce temps another 8c
@@casheighty8 Wrong, go read the Gamers Nexus review of the ThermalRight contact frame. You really should make sure you have your facts straight before you run around professing a statement like that. Why would a company continue to make a product that makes no difference? That literally makes no sense. Specifically the ThermalRight frame is easier to install than the ThermalGrizzly one and makes a 7-10c difference under load. Furthermore, the user comments in that review also state their anecdotal experience of how much it lowered their temps. I mean, the internet is full of reviews of contact frames and all of them show a difference. Lol

I have this board with 13900kf and with F11 bios i have 91.148 biscuits befor it was 89.something
good review as always from leo, but the audio issues in the middle were hard to deal with.
You are quite correct and it is rather annoying - when I reviewed the video I thought I was hearing rain but no, seems to be a poor connection instead.
Leo
Is it just me or is there some really nasty audio crackling from 5:37 onwards? Only seems to last a few minutes though.
me too
yeah looks like it was a render issue or something,. noticed it on leo's last video too.

Is it even possible to use a Noctua d15 on this board?
Provided both Noctua and Gigabyte have respected the CPU keep-out area that is part of the ATX standard then sure, no problem (but feel free to check the Noctua spec)

Leo I have another con for you, and I think we should highlight more….. bifurcation of this configuration means we can’t exploit M.2 v5.0 and x16 PCIe GPU you have to pick.
Sir , I have a question . What would be the very best Z790 I9 13Gen motherboard that I can buy ? I went the fastest , most power phases , best overclocking, coolest temperatures and most features . What would be the absolute best motherboard to build a very powerful gaming PC ? Thanks
Can i manually turn off the on-board GPU?
I'm confused;
Trying to buy a customised PC off PCSpecialists -- want to get 64GB of RAM... opted the Corsair's DDR5 Vengeance (6000MHz, 2x32GB), and I've been told it's compatible with this MB but not the ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero despite being the same specs relatively... what gives?

Did you notice any of the coil whine that seems to plague this board? I want to buy one but this is holding me back!
Just got one and I am not noticing any yet.
The sound is heard from the sockets on the back side of the motherboard connectors.
this sound is driving me nuts, coilwhine whining..what to do rma or?😦😦🤔 please help?
Yeah, I have coil whine as well. Try disabling c-states and setting the acoustic noise settings to divide by 8 - it can help quite a bit.
@@maulcs I tried everything. Nothing helped. I also switched off C states and changed the acoustic from 16/8 so I sent it back to the store, rma. What settings did you make to get rid of the coilwhine, acoustic 8 in? Did it help?

@@maulcs ua-cam.com/video/UZ56GkkAYKc/v-deo.html coilwhine
What about Intel Core i9 processor 14900K & Corsair - Vengeance RGB, DDR5, 32GB, 6400MHz CMH32GX5M2B6400C32 Compatibility with that motherboard?
Can I put 128 ram in it? Bc it says its only capable of 64gb
Здравствуйте! хороший обзор спасибо за обзор так держать:))++
does ddr4 rams work with it?
can this motherboard and Intel® Core™ i9-13900K Processor work display without graphic card?
So...... Asus Hero or Gigabyte master? The hero seems to consume a lot less power for almost the same results
Has anybody got any 32GBx2 ram kits working with this board? If so, what's the RAM model and bios version? I have tried everything for 2 months with no luck.
What have you tried? Are you using 32GBx2 or 32GBx4 (4 DIMMs)?
What if I prefer cookies?
Cookies are a type of biscuit in the UK.
Man, great board but dam dat price! 😮
i bought two so I could use them as bookends. My wife left me, so now im sleeping in the car.
I dont think so
Might be time for a new mic. Starts to get staticy around 5:36.
Seems to be a dodgy cable connection. Apologies for the annoyance.
I thought it was my iPhone 14 1TB fully paid with Apple care
That is awesome stuff, but it has probably to narrow audience.
Yep, 2nd ethernet for the nas would have been good.......
699$ for .... 4% more performances just like brides
hey sir can you tell me does this mother board support cpu such as amd like ryzen 7 5800x and higher or not. Please write back thank you.
got 94.696 biscuits ..yihaaa xD
Tool free M.2!*
* Tool free M.2 slots require a Tool to access.
🤦
You are correct in principle however the real pain with M.2 has been the tiny screws that fight against the springing action of the SSD so this is genuinely a useful step forward
Leo
600 quid for a motherboard without any built in thunderbolt or usb4, lol
cracker looking board that !
the highest award for a single line in / out connection is unjustifiable (for the high price) Also the sound chip is not good. It wasn`t even mentioned in the "Cons" section.
That's a single cabled network connection - you also have WiFi. We are well aware that some products (many products?) either hit solidly or miss completely.
Leo
@@KitGuruTech I only meant the audio section, the older Master Boards had better sound chip, 5.1 audio and a DAC at a much better price.
has no thunderbolt ports..........not good
The pcie slot layout is totally stupid. A board for maybe overclocking testbench duty at best. It’s a nice board but what’s a reasonable usecase? Sadly a waste of effort I my opinion.
How so? Even with a huge 4090 I can still access the bottom two slots, unlike the Z790 Carbon or Strix-E for instance.
Well I get better performance with edge z690 lol 42600 CR23 13900k ddr4 4300 cl15
It's a great board, but the power consumption of the 13900K is just plain stupid. Plain stupid. I'll pass.
That contact frame makes zero difference with 12 and 13 gen
@@casheighty8 Wrong, go read the Gamers Nexus review of the ThermalRight contact frame. You really should make sure you have your facts straight before you run around professing a statement like that. Why would a company continue to make a product that makes no difference? That literally makes no sense. Specifically the ThermalRight frame is easier to install than the ThermalGrizzly one and makes a 7-10c difference under load. Furthermore, the user comments in that review also state their anecdotal experience of how much it lowered their temps.
I mean, the internet is full of reviews of contact frames and all of them show a difference. Lol
How did you get into bios?
tall heatsink on first m.2 is very dumb and useless, even more it can interfere
