To give credit where due, Elvis didn’t pay all of Jackie’s expenses, but not for lack of trying. When Elvis learned of Jackie’s devastating attack, on Dick Clark’s show, (& that Jackie was broke), he attempted to pay them, but found out someone was already doing so. Elvis then assigned George Klein to call every week, to ensure Jackie had everything he needed, even small things, just to make visitors more comfortable, like a TV (an “extra” back then), fresh flowers weekly, snacks, magazines, etc. Elvis purportedly paid over $40K in 2 years (till Elvis’ 1977 death). Later it came out that Dick Clark had paid the bulk of the medicals, from 1975 to Jackie’s 1984 death. As a side note-Sonny West said, a photo of Elvis & Jackie, which Jackie treasured (Elvis had signed “Jackie, you got you a friend for life”), was kept at Jackie’s bedside till the day he died.

    * Elvis gave robe to Muhammed Ali
    * That robe is now displayed with a photo of them in Ali's museum.
    * Muhammed Ali visited Elvis's grave at Graceland
    * Muhammed made a speech about Elvis to Elvis fans at Graceland and sang "Don't be cruel"
    * Elvis visited Muhammed's exercise camp in the mountains.

Muhammed Ali ran a boxing camp and had one of his cabins reserved for anytime Elvis wanted to come and get away from everything. Ali visited his grave and later spoke at some event given to honor Elvis Presley. It was after he suffered his own medical challenges so he's difficult to understand, it is on YT. They admired the guts, ambition and greatness in each other but more than that they liked each other. Vicki

Ali, was from Louisville, Kentucky! Elvis' Grandfather lived there also, just a few blocks away from Muhammed Ali Blvd. Elvis would often visit his grandfather in Kentucky, he bought him a new car when he first became famous and brought it to his grandfather, his name was Jesse Presley! Elvis and, Ali also had this in common! They were 2 greats that had a very deep respect for each other! We, loved and was very proud of both of these GOATS! TCB, Kentuckygirl.

I'm a Louisville native as well. Have you ever visited Elvis' granddad's grave here? If not, if your familiar with The Texas Roadhouse on Dixie Hwy there is a small cemetery behind the shopping center where Texas Roadhouse is. If you drive back behind there you'll see the black iron gates and inside the small graveyard you can find Jesse Presley and His 2nd Wife buried next to him.

Hey guys; I can clear up a few things as I have actually written, as a professional writer, on both Elvis and Ali. In fact, the two of them were my childhood heroes, though with Elvis I wasn't quite sure as to why, at first, inasmuch as I didn't see as much of him on TV, as with Ali, but somehow what I did see or hear somehow got through. In regard to Jackie Wilson, he and Elvis were great friends and Elvis admired Jackie very much. So when Jackie was performing at a club in LA, I believe, but was having trouble bringing in the audience they expected, Elvis made calls to the Coasters and some other big groups, and encouraged the whole posse to go to Jackie's shows to give him support. Knowing too, that when people heard he and other celebrities would be at Jackie's shows, many more people would come out, as they did. Thus, problem solved and Elvis and Jackie were quite tight from then on.
In regard to Jackie's funeral costs, Dick Clark paid those expenses, as Elvis died 7 years prior in 1977, with Jackie dying - I believe - in 1984. Jackie, however, had his massive heart attack in 1975, and though he didn't die then, sadly he never fully recovered resulting in having to live the the rest of his life in the Medford Living Facility (exact name may be off a bit), a nursing home in New Jersey.
Therefore, it was then that Elvis paid Jackie's hospital bill and also the yearly costs of the nursing home for a bit over 2 years.
Elvis also spent some time up at Ali's training camp in Pennsylvania, with my having confirmed that with two of Elvis' bodyguards. Best of luck on your channel and if you have any Elvis or Ali questions, please feel free to ask.

@@AirplayBeats You're quite welcome and if you don't mind me saying so, it seems as if you're looking for and/or have looked at various information to try to dispel the rumor that Elvis was racist. An assertion which is utterly despicable based upon what I know based upon extensive research and talking to so, so many people who knew Elvis - both black and white - through the years. With the claim made in the 50's that Elvis said "[t]he only good thing a black man is good for is shining my shoes." Something that makes no sense as Elvis and blacks not only grew up together in a fun, loving way, but were on the same sides musically, too. Inasmuch as Elvis was damned and he was often ostracized for playing what was then called 'race music' or worse by being harassed with death threats, arrests and having his music not played on the radio, which did for a time, actually happen. But he stuck with it and ultimately it opened the doors for all the great black acts to go mainstream. Jet Magazine also investigated the claim and could find no support for it ever being said.
While I can give you many stories as to Elvis' relationship with blacks, and he even dated a young black girl - very shortly - in the 1970s, which I don't believe is ever spoken of. (Source - Elvis maid, Nancy Rooks) As this young lady actually lived in Memphis and had heard of Elvis' generosity and she was also looking for a job to help get through college. So she went to Graceland and was ultimately given a job which was to sit in the kitchen at Graceland and to study for school (which Elvis also paid for), with the only real duty being to answer the telephone if someone rang the kitchen line.
And another real cool story, rarely told, is that of Elvis' relationship with Johnny Bragg, the lead singer of the Prisonaires, a doo-wop group that was also signed to the Sun Record Label before Elvis. The group actually formed in prison, but Sam Phillips had them transported by armed guard to the Memphis record studio to record. So Elvis, who would often hang around the studio, struck up a friendship with them and also helped Johnny Bragg, a wonderful singer, get through the lyrics of 'Just Walkin' in the Rain." While when I say helped him get through the lyrics, I am referring to the fact - which not a lot of people know - that both Elvis and Johnny had a stutter. However, Elvis and Johnny would practice together and talk so that Johnny was able to get through all of the phraseology of the song with no difficulty. With the song ultimately becoming a rather large hit, selling over a quarter of a million copies in that day, which was no small feat!!!
Elvis would also later visit Johnny and the group at the Tennessee Penitentiary to offer them money and help with lawyers, etc. When this was something that almost no white man in the south, at that time, would have done. Thus, Elvis was called a race traitor and various names like that, and names that are very much akin to how blacks who don't always vote Democrat, and have a different point of view, are often ostracized.
I know of other factual happenings, too, but the stuff Quincy Jones says is absolutely not true. (as he basically just says Elvis was a racist and it was something he heard second hand, but he also tells a story) With the story he told actually had to do with his seeing Otis Blackwell and Elvis together and something racial transpired. The major problem with the story, though, is that both Elvis and Otis very much cared for each other, but I guess - too - Quincy in telling the false story - must not have known that Elvis and Otis never even met. That fact, alone, showing that the whole story was made up.
Also, if you ever want to get into Elvis' catalogue, all of the gospel is great and I'd suggest looking at songs such as 'Long Black Limousine', 'Stranger in My Own Hometown,' 'I've Got My Mojo Workin,' 'Wearin that Loved on Look,' among many others. As Elvis too often gets stereotyped and I think songs like this, too often overlooked as well, as Elvis was definitely 'down home' as you might say.
To end, let me also leave you with actual documented words from Ali, on Elvis, when making a small speech. He said the following:
"We black people are kinda funny about music. We aren’t going to follow someone unless they’ve got some soul. Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Michael Jackson, but the only white boy that had soul and could sing as good as any of them was Elvis. A lot of great singers who are black, but, one man literally as good as anybody, put all those brothers together there’s none any better than Elvis Presley. Singing ability, he had everything, and he was pretty, I know. And when it comes to boxing nobody has the class, the style, the wit, the speed and beauty of Ali. And when it comes to singing nobody had everything like Elvis. And the last thing, we must understand, he did lot for poor people, he cared for people, he had a good heart, he just wasn't a person who was great with talent, but he was great in spirit and with God in his heart, and this is great too. I realize how good I am in my profession, I wouldn't praise nobody if he don't deserve it, because I am the greatest of all time in boxing, in boxing. I said boxing ! But I'm telling you, not just you all, the Elvis fans, so naturally you praise Elvis, he's of European race as you are, but I'm Black, I'm an Islamic, I'm 100% different from you. But I’ll tell the world Elvis was the greatest of all time. I'm a Muslim who's black who stands up for what he believes. I don't have to say what I don't feel, I'm not false, I don't have to say this. I have no Bosses. I'm free. He to me, is one of the greatest singers, actors and all round men of all time.”

Ali had just been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1984, but he won over the crowd of Elvis fans when he sang a few lines a capella of one of his favorite Presley songs, “Don’t Be Cruel.” Ali then gave a very heartfelt speech about his friend: “We black people are kinda funny about music,” Ali told the crowd of Elvis fans. “We aren’t going to follow someone unless they’ve got soul - Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Michael Jackson - but the only white boy that had soul, who could sing as good as any of them was Elvis…He had singing ability, he had everything - he was pretty, I know. And when it comes to boxing, nobody has the class, the style, the wit, the speed, the beauty of Ali. And when it comes to singing, nobody had everything like Elvis…I’ll tell the world, Elvis was the greatest of all time.”

Elvis wanted to make sure Ali never forgot their first time meeting. They were very close friends until Elvis’s death. Ali loved him. Elvis use to stay with Ali for a week or 2 here and there when he needed to get away. Elvis was also good friends with Sammy Davis Jr and James Brown.

Thank you guys for your interesting and informative discussion. I enjoy your Elvis reactions... I'd like to see you react to some of Elvis' gospel music. That was his passion and his first love, he actually wanted to sing in a gospel quartet when he started out. Please react to "I got a feeling in my body" or How Great Thou Art live in June 1977, or Help Me live in '74. Thank you.👍⚡

Jackie Wilson and Elvis were good friends. He actually paid for Jackie Wilson’s surgery. During a movie Elvis was done when he’s singing Return to Sender, Jackie Wilson got in and sat down & you can see Elvis look and spot him and starts to smile and he mimics some of Jackie Wilson’s moves but Elvis keeps looking towards his left and laughing. During some redone episodes you can see part of Jackie sitting there.

You guys are great, and very fair to Elvis I appreciate this reaction. Look for James Brown's Tribute to Elvis with " Love Me Tender", there was also a video of Little Richard doing a interview about Elvis. Also a tribute by Fats Domino. Another great black drummer who played for Elvis that was called "Stump" So many Elvis revered like Mahalia Jackson, and the interview from "The Sweet Inspiration". His backup group. Thanks again.

Elvis and Jackie were very good friends - in 1973 and while
Performing live on stage Jackie went down and most people thought it was part of the act. Jackie was rushed to the hospital and was eventually comatose. He was then
Put into a rehab facility that was very nice . However, Jackie Wilson’s Mgr ripped him off and when the money all dried up the family could not afford the facility any longer and he was put into a government type free/insurance /monthly payment group home.
This information got back to Elvis and boy was Elvis pissed off. So, Elvis had Jackie ( of course with his families permission) put into a top notch facility and also, snacks - magazine and fresh
Flowers were put there every day. Elvis paid all expenses until the day he died in 1977. At that
Point and sue to Elvis finances Audis this father had to stop making the payments that grew to over 250 plus thousand a year when money was money. Elvis talked about Jackie all
The way back in 1956 when he met him in Las Vegas. If you listen to the C.D Elvis and the million dollar quartet, he was taking about this black fella who sung Elvis song ( version ) much better then Elvis did. Elvis really talked up
Jackie. They also met numerous time on Elvis 1969’s movie set and in
1972 when Jackie made his return to performing . Elvis had a heart of hold toward all
    Humans.
    Elvis was in his limo
Driving with a few of his entourage with him when he saw a black gentleman elderly in a pick up truck that had 2/4 walls built up to haul lumber. The
Truck was broke down and Elvis stopped and asked the man
    If he needed any
    Help. The man
    Said, my truck
    Won’t
Start and idk what’s wrong with
It. He said, it’s a stick
Shift if I can get a push I can maybe kick it in
Fear. Elvis said, ok, I’ll help
    You out, the man
    Said, sir, you willl ruin
Your limo Elvis said, it’s ok. So, Elvis hot behind the truck and gave it a push and
    Nothing happened .
After doing this a few times the
    Man
    Gave up. He also
Had his wife with him. Elvis asked the man, sir, are you scared of me the man
Said, no. Elvis said, hood get in the limo I’m going to take you somewhere to get someone to
Fix your truck. The man was really happy but said he had no money. Elvis ignored him
And drove him and his wife to a brand new truck dealer. They went inside and Elvis told the man pick out whatever truck you want. The man said, I have nothing. Elvis laughed and said, it’s on me. After buying the truck
    Elvis had the man
Drive back to his broke down truck, he helped them load up the
Wood and Elvis said, hey you need money to buy your wife something and handed them
    500.99 hundred dollars. The man
And his wife was so speechless but happy. Elvis never even told
    The man
    His name .
Elvis was at a Cadillac at dealer to
    Purchase a new Cadillac when
He was inside he saw a black
    Lady who
    Was at the
    Bus stop
    I’m
Front of the dealer peeking in admiring the cars. Elvis saw this and slipped away from
    His
People and went out to speak to the lady. Elvis asked her if there was a car she liked ? She said, oh yeah, maybe one
Day. Elvis said, today iis that day, go
Pick out anyone you want except for the white one over there because that’s the one I’m
Buying for me . He also gave her money to buy a dress and shoes and to
    Go
Out and have a good time in him. What a man !
    Ali was the
Greatest ever as well. Love them
    Both so much .
