And while you're at it, an e-Transit Connect.) GM has also invested, but then shot themselves in the foot by discontinuing the Bolt before its replacement was ready. (Typical GM behavior on EVs...)
We have a 2021 Bolt EV and aren't likely to replace it, not because we hate EVs but because it's a great car for us and we plan to keep it till it dies (hopefully not for decades to come).
I watch some automotive sales channels and in one breath they will say, look at all of the EV's that nobody wants and not 2 seconds later cut to a clip of them saying look at all these $80,000 trucks and $100,000 Wagoneers and Challengers and Chargers that nobody is buying. The fact is people are buying fewer cars. This was one of my predictions from 3 years ago. 3 Years ago new car inventory was extremely sparse and what cars where available had market adjustments from $5k to $20k. So, people bought these cars paying stupid high prices and for the most part were immediately upside down (by a lot). Now, 3 years later people are basically stuck with these cars because they still owe probably double what the car is worth. On top of that they probably have even less money now to spend. Used car prices 3 years ago were also insanely high. Even 1.5 years ago. My Bolt was briefly worth more as a used car than a new one. So many people paid inflated prices for used cars and now they can't trade them in to get any value back towards a new car. This now leads to a lot of people that may want to buy a new car but can't because they are so upside down in what they already have. Combine that with automakers pushing out cars and trucks like a demand exits and you start getting a glutton of new cars sitting on lots. Combine that with the insanely high prices of new vehicles and you have a recipe for nobody buying. Not just EV's but any new car. But what gets me is Elon 'Freaking Musk. He has gone off the deep end and is partly to blame for tanking sales. Because personally after owning ICE vehicles, Hybrid, full EV and a Tesla EV I have no desire to own anything but a Tesla. Except now I have to deal with the fact that the CEO has gone full on Bat Poop crazy. Because if you are buying a new car right now there is nothing cheaper than either a RWD Model 3 or Model Y. I mean FFS after the Fed Tax credit a Model 3 Performance is around $47k. There is basically nothing that even comes close in performance to a Model 3P for literally 10x the price. Right now GM is the ONLY other EV maker that has anything close in price to Tesla but you have to spend a lot more $$$ to match performance. I really like the Kia EV's but sheesh they just cost too much in comparison. Toyota and VW both pooped the bed and instead of changing sheets just keep smearing it around and telling everyone that it is ok, our beds are just as clean. Ford has waaay to many models of the Mach E and continues to play the options game on models to move people up to a higher $$$ car. FFS, standardize all options and just make 3 cars like Tesla. A base, an AWD and a Performance. Make everything else the same! And Stelantis is just advertising vapor ware on their EV's.
Elmo was always crazy - and it's part of how he got where he is now. The thing is, that over time, he is going "full Sheldon" instead of fighting nail &teet to stay at "Leonard level of craziness", thus throwing tantrums now and then… I understand him, sometimes I also have dark urges agains ppl with intelect below 145, after all it almost got me expired during C19 and left permanently damaged. But, unlike Elmo, I can control myself… That said, beside tantrums, he's more and more distant from the flawed nature of human flesh and more and more sliding to a machine-mode, which can be problematic, when combined…🤔
I agree with your assessment. I would say that Tesla has some additional problems. Elon himself is problematic but not a deal breaker. The recent launch of the CyberTruk was a disaster. Far too many having problems and the build quality wasn’t up to expectations. I live in a country where it will never be allowed, it’s unsafe for pedestrians and too wide for our old streets. Tesla’s problems in China are that the market is so incredibly competitive there and Chinese build quality now exceeds Tesla virtually across the market. Even sub $10,000 cars have better features than many Tesla’s. Plus Full self driving maybe appearing in China long before Tesla. Even Huawei now has a self driving car. I now think Tesla’s best days are behind it and the entire car market will be dominated by China. ICE vehicles will decline globally and become a symptom of a stagnant decaying economy.
And like toilet paper, there's a hundred variations of the wipe sheets. Some quilted, some scented, some scratchy, some soggy and drip dried. Yay free market place of ideas!
Car sales are dropping overall. Some people are not buying Tesla because of Musk. Some people are happily buying new EVs to replace their existing ones, which means... There are far more second-hand cars available so not everyone wanting an EV needs to buy new.

In June I finally got into an electric car after my 2013 Kia Soul died after 258k miles and I am loving it. I got a used 2013 Tesla Model S P85 with only 18k miles and still has the free supercharging perk. I had wanted to get into an EV for awhile and to prep myself started practicing pretty much one pedal driving even though I was in an ICE vehicle. It's totally possible to barely use your brakes and improve gas mileage, all while getting ready for the transition. I had over 100k miles on my brake pads on my old car and no where was ready to replace them. I don't like Musk at all but the car is nice for now while I wait for my Aptera reservation to be available.
Please, for your early Model S, search for "LDU coolant delete" for info on eliminating one of the most expensive repairs for early Tesla drive units: rotor seal leaking. The early Model S has a lot of weak areas (see GEN1 vs GEN2 OBC: AC input fuse failures, for example, and your 2013 could have either version, but GEN2 is better), but going "dry rotor" is the most impactful thing that you can do to extend your Model S' life. Also look into shielding the top of your battery pack and fuse box from A/C condensate (rusts through the battery lid and lets water in).

I remember when Tesla started he was looking to make cars that encouraged people to change to EVs to save the environment, and now it's like money has made him just want to get more. Well I for one will not encourage that kind of behavior and will make sure I buy the best EV that is not a Tesla (that is the best one I can get for under $10,000)
If Chinese EVs are unleashed on the American market W/O 100% tariffs, a huge number of new customers would buy them. You know the ones who can't afford $50-100+K vehicles which is just about most Americans. It is either that or we have such a long transition to a green economy that the planet burns in the meantime.
Love those floppy disk earrings! :) In addition to many of the reasons you explained, I do think a bigger investment in charging infrastructure would help more EV sales. So many friends still won't jump because of charging concerns.
one of the journeys I make regularly is about 300 miles with no DCFC stations at all. until I can make that trip, I'm locked out of switching my ICE vehicle for an electric - at best, a PHEV is as far as I can go. and I resent the US government and the states of Mississippi and Alabama for refusing to incentivise build-out.
Wow, that's a charging desert I know slow tripping not for everybody, but if I had to drive that far I'd try to find a hotel with L2 charging in between. Might be able to make it in a Chevy bolt with 2 hours of level 2 charging in between, if that exists
Its not complicated. New cars just cost too much. That's why I still hang on to my 2012 Subaru. My daughter has a tesla, and it fits her lifestyle, but not mine. I keep looking
Borrowing money to buy a car is a bad idea. Because all cars loose so much value, you can easily owe more than the car value. You can get really really cheap used cars, so buy those instead for cash.
I’ve been impressed by Teslas and have a leased Tesla MY standard range. My partner took to it quickly. However, largely due to Elon Musk’s appalling politics and promotion of hate on social media, I am unlikely to get another (sigh).

I have just priced a Skoda Enyaq in the UK at £49,000 new. On Skoda UK website they have a "used" Enyaq to a higher specification for £31,000. The car was registered in April 2024 and has covered a massive 101 miles. Why would anyone buy a new car when they could save £18,000 for a car with 101 miles on the clock?
If there was an affordable EV with a reasonable range (for me) I would buy it. I have to admit that I wouldn't by a Tesla regardless and it is not because they don't make fair decent EVs but that the Major owner and CEO is a Fascist. Fortunately I don't have to worry about health care as I am a British Columbian (as our medical insurance is run by our province) and I own my own house and I have deferred my property taxes. Our government has not thrown an insane duty on EVs from China (as yet) and our federal government has been talking with BYD. I haven't been impressed by the EVs currently available here. I am going to try to see what is happening at Every Thing Electric Show in Vancouver.
I am looking at an EV here in Australia after renting a Kia Niro EV last year for a holiday (too big for my normal taste, but man, it hooked me on EV ). Currently I can buy an MG4 with top safety rating NEW for less than US$ 24k ( price war between 3 major manufacturers ) I wish we could get a flood of cheap second hand EV's like the ANTI-EV pundits claim ("oh they devalue so fast and no-one wants a second hand EV" is a common claim here in the Australian media ), cos I can't seem to find them anywhere.
Everyone I've talked to about this stuff is shying away from Tesla because of their weird-ass CEO with too much power and even more too much ketamine and emotional issues. Anyone who is surprised at Tesla losing marketshare is in a bubble

Most people don’t give a crap how their wheels go around, they just want them to do it reliably and safely. modern EVs are great, but are not the only thing we need to concentrate on.
One reason why the reduced subsidy in Germany means a lot is that it was previously possible to change cars every six months and then export the car for more than the new price and thus be free to drive new cars.
The high price of EVs and the inflation is driving the rise of the repo market. Marginal incomes are defaulting on their loans. If you have to decide between paying the rising rents or paying loan payment on the high priced EV, then these marginal income families are gonna to pay their rent.

If they aren't selling I wish that would show at the EA stations because every single one on my summer roadtrips has been at least 75% full. Had to make a deal with the devil and charge at a 40 station Magic Dock site in New Jersey just to take a mental break from the packed stations. I feel dirty but man was that a great experience 😂
I am not happy about NACS, I didn't want anything remotely dealing with musk, but at a point got to do what you got to do. Nacs also brings back charging confusion for noobs and, fun, get to carry an adapter around
@@rp9674 Yeah I hear you. For me I'm going to still try to charge at other stations but it will make the road trips a lot less stressful once all cars have access, knowing I have Tesla as a backup since they are everywhere. Hopefully in a the next couple of years this won't be as much of an issue.
I won't buy a tesla, but I will charge at their stations if I have to, easy for me to say I'm not into road trips, and if I do I like it to be a slow Adventure
EV sales going to top 20% of income levels. The “middle” incomes can’t afford cars above $30k, that is why used EVs are increasing. Inflation is BIG factor! The country of China is backing almost all EVs in country. What would happen if America did the same?
I'm "one of those" that, even though I acknowledge the Model 3 is a great EV, decided against buying one and opted for a Polestar 2 instead. Mostly because of El Musko's antics.

Hi Kate, greetings from the U.K. Firstly, I missed any Hitchhikers Guide references in this one - shame, I really enjoy those! I can only comment on what I observe on the roads as I commute and potter around here in Oxfordshire. When I got my BEV in 2019 I got a little thrill every time I saw another EV on the road. 5 years later and you can’t move on the roads around me without seeing dozens of EVs. Sales will ebb and flow by month and year, and statistics will be spewed to support a narrative, most of this is just flim-flam. What I am seeing is more EVs on the roads with the passage of time, and this is great. Sending lots of rainbow love to you guys 🌈🌈🌈
Despite Elon, sigh, I recently acquired a Tesla because while he is an idiot, he is an idiot who hired the best engineers and has the best charging network. But Tesla keeps dropping their prices and with a lot of rental companies over investing and bringing their rentals to market, along with a surge from that EV tax credit, the used EV market is booming and hence why I now own a Tesla. As a general rule in the US you need to separate the rich guy at the top of just about anything from the product or service their company provides or you will enjoy nothing. I have a car that lets me not use gas stations, has some really great navigation, and the best sound system I have ever had in a vehicle, and a battery pack still under warranty and almost no maintenance aside from tires. Loving it even if the guy at the top of tne company isn't all tnere.

Yeah, Autoline daily repeats the propaganda as often as they can get away with it. It's the constant repeating of the mantra that cued me to the fact that it IS propaganda. Why do they need it? The same reason they need tariffs, they aren't able to make competitive EVs. We just ordered a new Renault Scenic for September delivery.. It's a European-mid-size or American-small-size SUV. (Lots of UA-cam videos available.) It costs €40 000 or $44 000, including 20% tax. It's a very nice car: stylish, comfortable (on a dedicated EV platform) and quiet, economical. Of course... it's not available in the States. But hey! You can buy an UTTERLY RIDICULOUS Hummer. Lucky you!
The salesman at the Renault dealership have us a test drive in his own Scenic. He had to leave us for a moment to greet the lady who was taking delivery of his previous car, a Renault Mégane... EV. Very nice, somewhat smaller car, kinda in between SUV and sedan. He didn't try to sell us a Hummer.
Recently here in Italy, all the money allocated for ev incentives ended in less than a day.... If i recall correctly it was more money that what was allocated in the previewus years so it does not look like a lack of interest.
The rush to EVs seems rather misplaced to me. Better to concentrate on the grid, capping old wells etc and continuing the shift to EVs. But it seems to me the current battery technology will be obsoleted within 5 years. In addition you cannot have lots of EVs fast charging unless the grid is capable of supporting it. EVs are not going to save the planet in the short term. I cannot get over how many EV owners say they charge at home with their solar - just meaning they haven't fed solar back to the grid and extra fossil fuelled electricity is having t be produced. There is no quick fix - and buying new, carbon intensive, products isn't a panacea. Hanging onto old stuff makes more sense at this point.
Yes a comparison between EV and ICE subsidies would be great! Especially if you can dig into the past when the infrastructure was being built because the gas stations have been there for decades! Not to mention any tax breaks and subsidies for pipelines and drilling!
I keep noticing a lot of anti-Tesla content in the MSN feed that pops up in my Edge browser. Best Tesla alternatives, etc. It seems like the MSM wants Tesla to fail, and are even claiming that Tesla is already failing, ignoring the fact that Tesla is outproducing every competitor apart from BYD by a wide margin. Even if BYD were available in America, Teslas would continue to sell in large numbers, particularly when Model 2 arrives. That's because Tesla makes money on every unit, unlike many of Tesla's competitors. That means Tesla can afford to discount when needed, thus undercutting competitors and forcing them to reduce production even further. It's not for no reason that Mary Barra is now talking about streamlining GM's model lineup to make it more lean and mean like Tesla. Good luck with that Mary. Unless you do start doing exactly what Tesla does, and do it even better than Tesla, your EV's will continue to sell in relatively small numbers.
The EV transition thrust has been choked by the world economy moving toward recession . The EV thrust has been choked by ever present range anxiety . The EV thrust has been choked by the stalling of charging infrastructure building. People are not buying new , they are buying at thrift resale shops , clothes and used durable goods. People are buying used older ICE cars that can be repaired at lower costs . The old ICE car builders are being choked by mandates to build EV cars that people won't buy.
Some blame must go to the overly optimistic and often ridicules claims from Tesla fanboys, things like all the legacy auto manufacturers will soon go bankrupt, any company besides Tesla that dare enter the EV market will immediately fail and all ICE vehicles will disappear in five years. EV's will eventually overtake ICE due to the much higher efficiency but that transition will take a decade or longer. It will happen but in the long term and not anytime soon.
Time estimates are difficult, but I am sitting here in Norway on the other side of the transition. A decade from now is a very long time. Just compare to a decade ago.
44% of UK housing, rented or owned, is not suitable for installation of home charging, due to lack of a driveway, garage, or dedicated parking space (LLoyds Banking Group reseach Nov 2022).
When I finally buy an EV, likely 2-3 years, I will be buying for a commuter. I resent being more or less pushed into oversized American EVs. American automakers are still, I am guessing, tied to the late-stage-Capitalistic fetish of "bigger is better". I will gladly go to the secondary EV market for the suitable formfactor.
I have Un-American tastes. My latest is a 23 bolt EV I think it's big, some call it tiny. My previous was a Fiat 500e, very fun and practical, also own a BMW i3 Rex
I commuted 50k miles in a 100 mi. range EV with ONLY L2 charging at home. 56 mi. commute round-trip, it was wonderful. Now, I've retired and live further out and have to drive longer distances, and I just got my friend into a '19 Bolt, I drove it a couple days, and I'm thinking I might buy one myself. It's not "great" but it's pretty good.
Short range EVs can be exciting. my sister has a Bolt, I got one last year I think it's a very good all-around car, range, performance, comfort, efficiency. I don't care about fast charging speed enough to spend $9K more
In Sweden they dropped the incentives last year in November over a night and then they lowered the price on fossil fuel with 10 Sek/liter after new years eve for the new government promissed the voters this to get elected and won on this strategy. Calculated low and this cost 35 Billion Sek/year to do this have been cheaper to do all Bev tax free up till 500 000 Sek like Norway have done. But they still have a incentive for companys that get Beneficial value on 350 000 Sek on a new Bev.
Diabolical, sad. Many people hate science but gladly accept cell phones and excellent tvs, Etc. I think the theory is if you ignore reality it'll go away
I'm constantly hearing about dropping EV sales, so I am always surprised to see greater and greater numbers of EVs on the road. I'm also surprised to see so many comments by non EV owners on EV channels, it's obvious they are non owners because their negative comments are so far off the mark they couldn't possibly own one.
Of course you're always hearing it, and all the rest of us too. That's the first law of propaganda. Say it, say it often, rinse and repeat. If they keep saying it people start to believe it, even if it isn't true. Propaganda, like advertising WORKS!
I've own a used Chevy SPARK EV with almost 100k mikes and I will strongly look at ANY manufacturers offering for a EV with a replaceable battery but unless this happens I'll go hybrid or ICE. Being a I.T. guy I have no interest in the complexity of any GM Ultium based car, plus they will dominate my garage and driveway!
Musk knows that he can make money providing battery backup for wind and solar power. It would even make fossil fuel plants more efficient. But the main problem is that the general public is broke. I was lucky enough to buy an EV in early 2021. But I just wrote checks for car and house insurance totaling my entire monthly income.
IDK that "everyone" is broke. I'm doing OK, but I don't buy new cars -- only once, an '18 Model 3, and I regretted it and sold it at a slight profit during Covid -- and avoid the steep new car depreciation. Sorry but Toyota was correct, the goal should be lowering emissions, not just selling EVs. It's going to take time, and super hybrids make more sense for a lot of people
With current US incentives, in the next 20 years I expect the EV marketshare for new sales in the US to rise to about 33%. Hybrids / plug-in hybrids can make up almost all of the rest.

I agree with your assessment. I would say that Tesla has some additional problems. Elon himself is problematic but not a deal breaker.
The recent launch of the CyberTruk was a disaster. Far too many having problems and the build quality wasn’t up to expectations. I live in a country where it will never be allowed, it’s unsafe for pedestrians and too wide for our old streets. Tesla’s problems in China are that the market is so incredibly competitive there and Chinese build quality now exceeds Tesla virtually across the market. Even sub $10,000 cars have better features than many Tesla’s. Plus Full self driving maybe appearing in China long before Tesla. Even Huawei now has a self driving car.
I now think Tesla’s best days are behind it and the entire car market will be dominated by China. ICE vehicles will decline globally and become a symptom of a stagnant decaying economy.
The Telegraph is no better than toilet paper. It has a very loose relationship with the truth.
And like toilet paper, there's a hundred variations of the wipe sheets. Some quilted, some scented, some scratchy, some soggy and drip dried.

In June I finally got into an electric car after my 2013 Kia Soul died after 258k miles and I am loving it. I got a used 2013 Tesla Model S P85 with only 18k miles and still has the free supercharging perk. I had wanted to get into an EV for awhile and to prep myself started practicing pretty much one pedal driving even though I was in an ICE vehicle. It's totally possible to barely use your brakes and improve gas mileage, all while getting ready for the transition. I had over 100k miles on my brake pads on my old car and no where was ready to replace them. I don't like Musk at all but the car is nice for now while I wait for my Aptera reservation to be available.
Please, for your early Model S, search for "LDU coolant delete" for info on eliminating one of the most expensive repairs for early Tesla drive units: rotor seal leaking.
The early Model S has a lot of weak areas (see GEN1 vs GEN2 OBC: AC input fuse failures, for example, and your 2013 could have either version, but GEN2 is better), but going "dry rotor" is the most impactful thing that you can do to extend your Model S' life. Also look into shielding the top of your battery pack and fuse box from A/C condensate (rusts through the battery lid and lets water in).
Take heart in the fact that you're now costing Musk money with that unlimited free Supercharging!
I remember when Tesla started he was looking to make cars that encouraged people to change to EVs to save the environment, and now it's like money has made him just want to get more. Well I for one will not encourage that kind of behavior and will make sure I buy the best EV that is not a Tesla (that is the best one I can get for under $10,000)

If Chinese EVs are unleashed on the American market W/O 100% tariffs, a huge number of new customers would buy them. You know the ones who can't afford $50-100+K vehicles which is just about most Americans. It is either that or we have such a long transition to a green economy that the planet burns in the meantime.
It's only a couple of years now. Look at Volvo moving production of their EX30 from China to Belgium. Lots of others are following that lead.

one of the journeys I make regularly is about 300 miles with no DCFC stations at all. until I can make that trip, I'm locked out of switching my ICE vehicle for an electric - at best, a PHEV is as far as I can go. and I resent the US government and the states of Mississippi and Alabama for refusing to incentivise build-out.
Wow, that's a charging desert I know slow tripping not for everybody, but if I had to drive that far I'd try to find a hotel with L2 charging in between. Might be able to make it in a Chevy bolt with 2 hours of level 2 charging in between, if that exists

Borrowing money to buy a car is a bad idea. Because all cars loose so much value, you can easily owe more than the car value. You can get really really cheap used cars, so buy those instead for cash.
I’ve been impressed by Teslas and have a leased Tesla MY standard range. My partner took to it quickly. However, largely due to Elon Musk’s appalling politics and promotion of hate on social media, I am unlikely to get another (sigh).

Given the FUD has gone off the scale in the past year (In my experience) I think we're at the 'Fight' stage.
I have just priced a Skoda Enyaq in the UK at £49,000 new. On Skoda UK website they have a "used" Enyaq to a higher specification for £31,000. The car was registered in April 2024 and has covered a massive 101 miles. Why would anyone buy a new car when they could save £18,000 for a car with 101 miles on the clock?
If there was an affordable EV with a reasonable range (for me) I would buy it. I have to admit that I wouldn't by a Tesla regardless and it is not because they don't make fair decent EVs but that the Major owner and CEO is a Fascist. Fortunately I don't have to worry about health care as I am a British Columbian (as our medical insurance is run by our province) and I own my own house and I have deferred my property taxes. Our government has not thrown an insane duty on EVs from China (as yet) and our federal government has been talking with BYD. I haven't been impressed by the EVs currently available here. I am going to try to see what is happening at Every Thing Electric Show in Vancouver.
I am looking at an EV here in Australia after renting a Kia Niro EV last year for a holiday (too big for my normal taste, but man, it hooked me on EV ).
Currently I can buy an MG4 with top safety rating NEW for less than US$ 24k ( price war between 3 major manufacturers )

One reason why the reduced subsidy in Germany means a lot is that it was previously possible to change cars every six months and then export the car for more than the new price and thus be free to drive new cars.

The high price of EVs and the inflation is driving the rise of the repo market. Marginal incomes are defaulting on their loans. If you have to decide between paying the rising rents or paying loan payment on the high priced EV, then these marginal income families are gonna to pay their rent.
Nice analysis, and useful to counter the FUD. I noticed this was also on Peer tube and can be watched on youtube and directly through Patreon. Which method of viewing pays the team best ? I'd rather avoid having the various platforms taking too generous a slice.

If they aren't selling I wish that would show at the EA stations because every single one on my summer roadtrips has been at least 75% full. Had to make a deal with the devil and charge at a 40 station Magic Dock site in New Jersey just to take a mental break from the packed stations. I feel dirty but man was that a great experience 😂

EV sales going to top 20% of income levels. The “middle” incomes can’t afford cars above $30k, that is why used EVs are increasing. Inflation is BIG factor! The country of China is backing almost all EVs in country. What would happen if America did the same?

Hi Kate, greetings from the U.K. Firstly, I missed any Hitchhikers Guide references in this one - shame, I really enjoy those! I can only comment on what I observe on the roads as I commute and potter around here in Oxfordshire. When I got my BEV in 2019 I got a little thrill every time I saw another EV on the road. 5 years later and you can’t move on the roads around me without seeing dozens of EVs. Sales will ebb and flow by month and year, and statistics will be spewed to support a narrative, most of this is just flim-flam. What I am seeing is more EVs on the roads with the passage of time, and this is great. Sending lots of rainbow love to you guys 🌈🌈🌈
Despite Elon, sigh, I recently acquired a Tesla because while he is an idiot, he is an idiot who hired the best engineers and has the best charging network. But Tesla keeps dropping their prices and with a lot of rental companies over investing and bringing their rentals to market, along with a surge from that EV tax credit, the used EV market is booming and hence why I now own a Tesla.
As a general rule in the US you need to separate the rich guy at the top of just about anything from the product or service their company provides or you will enjoy nothing.
I have a car that lets me not use gas stations, has some really great navigation, and the best sound system I have ever had in a vehicle, and a battery pack still under warranty and almost no maintenance aside from tires. Loving it even if the guy at the top of tne company isn't all tnere.

We just ordered a new Renault Scenic for September delivery.. It's a European-mid-size or American-small-size SUV. (Lots of UA-cam videos available.) It costs €40 000 or $44 000, including 20% tax. It's a very nice car: stylish, comfortable (on a dedicated EV platform) and quiet, economical. Of course... it's not available in the States. But hey! You can buy an UTTERLY RIDICULOUS Hummer. Lucky you!

The salesman at the Renault dealership have us a test drive in his own Scenic. He had to leave us for a moment to greet the lady who was taking delivery of his previous car, a Renault Mégane... EV. Very nice, somewhat smaller car, kinda in between SUV and sedan. He didn't try to sell us a Hummer.

Recently here in Italy, all the money allocated for ev incentives ended in less than a day.... If i recall correctly it was more money that what was allocated in the previewus years so it does not look like a lack of interest.
The rush to EVs seems rather misplaced to me. Better to concentrate on the grid, capping old wells etc and continuing the shift to EVs. But it seems to me the current battery technology will be obsoleted within 5 years. In addition you cannot have lots of EVs fast charging unless the grid is capable of supporting it. EVs are not going to save the planet in the short term. I cannot get over how many EV owners say they charge at home with their solar - just meaning they haven't fed solar back to the grid and extra fossil fuelled electricity is having t be produced. There is no quick fix - and buying new, carbon intensive, products isn't a panacea. Hanging onto old stuff makes more sense at this point.
Yes a comparison between EV and ICE subsidies would be great! Especially if you can dig into the past when the infrastructure was being built because the gas stations have been there for decades! Not to mention any tax breaks and subsidies for pipelines and drilling!
To be honest, hearing "In the Telegraph..." is very close to hearing "reported on Fox..."
I keep noticing a lot of anti-Tesla content in the MSN feed that pops up in my Edge browser. Best Tesla alternatives, etc. It seems like the MSM wants Tesla to fail, and are even claiming that Tesla is already failing, ignoring the fact that Tesla is outproducing every competitor apart from BYD by a wide margin. Even if BYD were available in America, Teslas would continue to sell in large numbers, particularly when Model 2 arrives. That's because Tesla makes money on every unit, unlike many of Tesla's competitors. That means Tesla can afford to discount when needed, thus undercutting competitors and forcing them to reduce production even further. It's not for no reason that Mary Barra is now talking about streamlining GM's model lineup to make it more lean and mean like Tesla. Good luck with that Mary. Unless you do start doing exactly what Tesla does, and do it even better than Tesla, your EV's will continue to sell in relatively small numbers.

The EV transition thrust has been choked by the world economy moving toward recession . The EV thrust has been choked by ever present range anxiety . The EV thrust has been choked by the stalling of charging infrastructure building. People are not buying new , they are buying at thrift resale shops , clothes and used durable goods. People are buying used older ICE cars that can be repaired at lower costs . The old ICE car builders are being choked by mandates to build EV cars that people won't buy.

Some blame must go to the overly optimistic and often ridicules claims from Tesla fanboys, things like all the legacy auto manufacturers will soon go bankrupt, any company besides Tesla that dare enter the EV market will immediately fail and all ICE vehicles will disappear in five years. EV's will eventually overtake ICE due to the much higher efficiency but that transition will take a decade or longer. It will happen but in the long term and not anytime soon.
Time estimates are difficult, but I am sitting here in Norway on the other side of the transition. A decade from now is a very long time. Just compare to a decade ago.

A major issue is that EVs are not an option for anyone who rents an apartment.
44% of UK housing, rented or owned, is not suitable for installation of home charging, due to lack of a driveway, garage, or dedicated parking space (LLoyds Banking Group reseach Nov 2022).

When I finally buy an EV, likely 2-3 years, I will be buying for a commuter. I resent being more or less pushed into oversized American EVs. American automakers are still, I am guessing, tied to the late-stage-Capitalistic fetish of "bigger is better".
I will gladly go to the secondary EV market for the suitable formfactor.
I have Un-American tastes. My latest is a 23 bolt EV I think it's big, some call it tiny. My previous was a Fiat 500e, very fun and practical, also own a BMW i3 Rex
I commuted 50k miles in a 100 mi. range EV with ONLY L2 charging at home. 56 mi. commute round-trip, it was wonderful. Now, I've retired and live further out and have to drive longer distances, and I just got my friend into a '19 Bolt, I drove it a couple days, and I'm thinking I might buy one myself. It's not "great" but it's pretty good.
Short range EVs can be exciting. my sister has a Bolt, I got one last year I think it's a very good all-around car, range, performance, comfort, efficiency. I don't care about fast charging speed enough to spend $9K more

In Sweden they dropped the incentives last year in November over a night and then they lowered the price on fossil fuel with 10 Sek/liter after new years eve for the new government promissed the voters this to get elected and won on this strategy. Calculated low and this cost 35 Billion Sek/year to do this have been cheaper to do all Bev tax free up till 500 000 Sek like Norway have done. But they still have a incentive for companys that get Beneficial value on 350 000 Sek on a new Bev.
Diabolical, sad. Many people hate science but gladly accept cell phones and excellent tvs, Etc. I think the theory is if you ignore reality it'll go away

I'm constantly hearing about dropping EV sales, so I am always surprised to see greater and greater numbers of EVs on the road. I'm also surprised to see so many comments by non EV owners on EV channels, it's obvious they are non owners because their negative comments are so far off the mark they couldn't possibly own one.
Of course you're always hearing it, and all the rest of us too.

I've own a used Chevy SPARK EV with almost 100k mikes and I will strongly look at ANY manufacturers offering for a EV with a replaceable battery but unless this happens I'll go hybrid or ICE. Being a I.T. guy I have no interest in the complexity of any GM Ultium based car, plus they will dominate my garage and driveway!

Musk knows that he can make money providing battery backup for wind and solar power. It would even make fossil fuel plants more efficient.
But the main problem is that the general public is broke. I was lucky enough to buy an EV in early 2021. But I just wrote checks for car and house insurance totaling my entire monthly income.
IDK that "everyone" is broke. I'm doing OK, but I don't buy new cars -- only once, an '18 Model 3, and I regretted it and sold it at a slight profit during Covid -- and avoid the steep new car depreciation. If you have to have a NEW car, then you have to have a NEW car budget, and I am fine with a 3-year-old car at 30% off MSRP or whatever. Used car financing on

With current US incentives, in the next 20 years I expect the EV marketshare for new sales in the US to rise to about 33%. Hybrids / plug-in hybrids can make up almost all of the rest.
