    Just bought a 2 cd Wishbone Ash compilation today from my local music store called Time Was on MCA, paid $4.99, not a bad price in my book, Wishbone Ash cds are not easily found on the used racks.
    I only owned one cd by them, Argus with some bonus tracks.

      It's true, its not easy to find Wishbone Ash albums used in the racks - probably because they don't sell huge numbers and those who buy them keep them. I hope the one you got is Time Was The Wishbone Ash Collection which is a good 2 cd anthology of many of their songs. That's a good one with a booklet too. There is another Time Was 2 Cd live collection which is actually a cheap repress of two "grey" market live cd's that don't have great sound - "Time Line" and "The King Will Come Live". Definitely not an essential collection, but for the BIG fan ok to have. Anyway for the price - you did really great!

    Buying 45 albums that came out in 2015 is nothing to sneeze at, if you ask me. I had to strain my brain to recall five 2015 albums that I listened to more than a couple of times. They are: “Modern Blues;” “Something More Than Free;” “Rattle That Lock;” “Tracker;” and “No Cities to Love.” I can see why you picked “Cass County” as your second favorite LP of 2015. I’ve always thought that Don Henley’s greatest strength as a songwriter is when he focuses on the human condition. For those who like a country music vibe, “Cass County” presents one solid song after another. For those folks, I get how the songs are engaging and memorable. The song credits read like a “Who’s Who” in country music. And the vocal performances by those names are indicative of their respective levels of success in the world of country music. That world, however, with very few exceptions, has never held much appeal to me. (In past videos, you’ve spoken about singers whose vocals annoy you. Well, for me, few vocals are more annoying than those laced with a heavy country twang and:/or southern drawl. Yet, I am not the least bit annoyed by listening to and conversing with someone who speaks with a twang or a drawl. For all I know, my Long Island accent annoys the hell out of them! On recordings, though,twangs and drawls almost never do it for me. I do have a small amount of exceptions, if the music and songwriting strikes me as being outstanding. So, it should come as no surprise that my favorite song on “Cass County” is “Take a Picture of This,” the one on which Don Henley is the only singer.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 дні тому +1

      Thanks for your thorough analysis of Cass County. I bought it when it came out with little expectations, as I'm not a huge Eagles fan or Henley fan (though I do have all their albums). But as you also said, the quality of the songs were just so good, It was a wonderful listen, that I listened to so much 10 years ago. As you also pointed out, if you don't like that country twang, definitely not for you then. When I bought it, I didn't even know that Mick Jagger was on a track (which was shocking to me - I've never seen a Jagger Eagles Henley connection except when The Eagles opened for the Stones in 1975), though that's actually amongst the lesser tracks on the album. Of course, there's always other country albums without the twang...ya know like this years best country / overall album according to the Grammys - Country Carter by Beyonce...lol. but don't get me started, that's a rant for another day.

    Hi Mate You nailed it. We are the lucky people who (quite literally) were buying/listening to the 20th century's greatest musicians. Buying future "classics" completely oblivious to the fact that this was the golden age of rock! Does your son agree? Both mine do.

      We were so lucky. I know they won best rock album for Voodoo Lounge. But of course The Stones have never won the biggie - Album Of The Year. But the Grammy's pretty much ignored rock in the 70's etc. I'll tell you whats crazy. Rock is in such bad shape that the Grammy's don't even televise the rock categories, ignoring The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. But what the hell, it's not like those two bands were talented or influential. Not like the crap they showed for 3 1/2 hours. Oh I'm mad. Thinking I should do a rant on it.

      You know CMcG - you actually work harder on your replies than I do on my video...lol. This in unbelievable. It's incredible how much you have from 2015 and how little of it I have - and in many cases I've never even heard of some of these. By the way, I think that's the only Nils Lofgren album I don't have but I know of it. That Wishbone Ash DVD Live in Paris is very good - I have that one. I have to get into Joe Bonamassa but his catalog is daunting and the last thing I need is another rabbit hole. My backlog is crazy now. I need to checkout the Gregg Allman Back To Macon - you know I'm a huge Allman's fan but not sure why I didn't pick that one up. I have the Waters. Same with the Richard Thompson - I have a lot of his, but huge discography and that one passed me by. I have John Hackett in some Steve Hackett releases, but I didn't know he has his own albums - interesting. Anyway, phew, this in comprehensive . Thanks as always, I'm sure you're sleeping, as I'm about to go to sleep as well. Thanks my friend.

    Boo! Hiss! Boo! No more Time Capsules 'til 2026! Boo! Enjoyed this, even though up to Isbell I was getting ready to type "Haven't heard any of these albums!" Two things: Have just ordered the Waterboys CD as I don't have that one, so I trust it is as good as you say (heh heh), and I am afraid to say that I believe that your dismissal of DBT post-Isbell is, let's say, misguided. I have every single one of their albums and they are consistently excellent, musically AND lyrically - there are no poor albums among them. Not really even average ones. They are consistently worth hearing. Really, really, really. I probably actually prefer them post-Jason, but of course there are more DBT albums post-Jason than with him, now. They are one of my favourite bands of the 21st Century, no doubt at all (seen 'em live lots in London). Oh, and my thoughts on your Fairport set can be found on our previous thread in Time Capsule 1974.

    Interesting selections, as ever, including a couple of albums that passed me by despite being by performers I like (Blackmore's Night & Martin Turner). I need to give Jason Isbell a listen too. I have 67 2015 albums. My favourites are probably these:
    10. Magic Pie - King For A Day (Styx/Starcastle infused prog from Norway)
    9. Trans Siberian Orchestra - Letters From The Labyrinth (Meat Loaf meets Andrew Lloyd Webber)
    8. The Sheepdogs - Future Nostalgia (Canadian Southern rock from the first unsigned band to appear on Rolling Stone's cover)
    7. Biters - Electric Blood (back to basics, swaggering rock & roll debut album. Sadly they only made one more before splitting)
    6. Leo Sayer - Restless Years (more akin to his early albums rather than his later soul/r&b infused ones)
    5. China Sky - II (AOR, with gentle Southern leanings, in the style of 38 Special or the Henry Paul Band)
    4. Tradarrr! - Cautionary Tales (folk-rock from the school of Fairport)
    3. Alan Doyle - So Let's Go (second solo album from erstwhile Great Big Sea man)
    2. Zervas & Pepper - Abstract Heart (new-ish duo from Wales with a real Laurel Canyon vibe)
    1. Blitzen Trapper - All Across This Land (feels like a heartfelt homage to all the great roots/heartland artists of the previous forty years without ever descending into pastiche).
    A few honourables:
    . Zac Brown Band - Jekyll & Hyde
    . Cutting Crew - Add To Favourites (Going to see them in concert in a couple of weeks!)

    I saw the Exhibitionism show in New York. It's a shame I didn't know you then.I really enjoyed the Ian Hunter and Waterboys albums. I didn't care much for the Don Henley. I will be seeing Maxxxxxine next week.....get ready. I expect to see you at a Stones residency in Las Vegas. Start saving money now.🤑🤑😂🤣

      If the Stones play at the Sphere I would definitely be there (assuming I could afford it). I think you'll enjoy Maxxxine. I saw the Exhibitionism in NY too, it was a weird venue though. I remember feeling it was much smaller than the London one...or at least the venue itself. That was a great show - they did it up so well. Nice book too.

    Revivalists/Men Against Mountains
    Go! Team/Scene Between

    Du Blonde/Welcome Back to Milk

    Hey, 45 albums is nothing to sneeze at. I've got 10. OK, so what's really great from 2015? Well, there's Vulnicura by Bjork. This album is completely insane and not for the faint of heart, but I think it's way cool. Wolflight is another great album by Steve Hackett. Especially check out "Love Song to a Vampire." Sco-Mule (Gov't Mule with John Scofield) was recorded live in 1999 but released in 2015. All instrumental jams and they are completely awesome. I won't include Still by Richard Thompson because it's not one of his best, but the bonus disc, called Variations EP, is way better and contains five amazing songs.
    But I know two true masterpieces from 2015. #2 is Hand. Cannot. Erase. And #1 is The Grand Experiment, the debut album by the official Neal Morse Band, a perfect album, a masterclass in rock and prog. I know it's way past the heyday of rock and roll, but to me it's one of the greatest rock albums ever made.

Been a long time since I've listened to Hand Cannot Erase. Have to give it a re-listen. Thanks for the recommendation from Neil Morse Band. I haven't really listened to his solo stuff but I really enjoyed a lot of Spocks Beard. I will definitely be looking out for that one. Best, Alan

      That's really cool information. I always wondered how big Squeeze was on your side of the pond. I saw them live back in their heyday and they became huge in the NYC tri-state area and some other pockets. Had some BIG hits here, but then they faded away. Cool information. That's a really really good Squeeze album in my opinion.

    Bill Wyman once said if he could play in another band it would be for CCR with Fogerty. He still did alright but he probably had to put up with a lot of Prima Donna behavior from Jagger.
    I don’t understand why you like Wishbone Ash. I gave them a listen and they did nothing for me. A band with no hits doesn’t interest me. But whatever.
    I like the Steve Miller Band, the Electric Prunes, live in Stockholm 1967!, Missing Persons, and the Pretenders!
    The Police are probably my favorite band besides the Doors, Cars and CCR and ARS.
    Boston, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, Nirvana and S. Pumpkins also.
    But to each his own. I’d rather listen to the Beatles or Stones than Wishbone Ash. But you go ahead. Knock yourself out.
    No offense.

      Thank you so much. I really appreciate this (and not because you agreed with me). I found that Keith album nothing with nothing. Didn't like the drum sound, didn't like the production and with one or two exceptions, the songs were forgettable. And they are. I imagine most people couldn't hear more than a song or two in their head from that album....not the case from the other two solo albums from Keith. But again, the critics trip over themselves with accolades blah blah blah. here's what I say.. If everything is great...then nothing is great. Thanks again.

    Why buy Grateful Dead albums if you really don’t like them

      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  3 дні тому

      @@Timlinmark because I love the Grateful Dead and I have everyone of their albums. But Fare Thee Well was the last time they were ever going to play together again ever. Because of that they were the biggest shows of their time. Their never ending ongoing configurations is Symantics. But the Dead are not alone in milking the fans. I just thought they were beyond this type of thing.

      @ I have no problem with The Grateful Dead releasing archive albums every year. I think it's fantastic actually. And the Dead organization and record labels to a terrific job. The issue I have is Jerry Garcia died in 1995. In 1998, surviving members reformed as The Other Ones. They had moderate success for years, so they changed their name (with changing lineups) to The Dead which with the name change drastically increased their popularity. More lineup changes in 2009 and they changed their name to Further. With diminishing returns they called it a day in 2014 and announced the final performance forever for the Grateful Dead offshoots - that's right forever and they did Fare Thee Well in 2015. Because they were supposed to be the grand finale - they were historic shows - the biggest of their time and they brought in Trey to replace Jerry Garcia. A nice way to go out and finally bury The Grateful Dead (and let Jerry rest in peace). But no, because the shows were soooo big, they recruit John Mayer to replace Trey and Jerry and tour up to now as Dead and Company. I always thought the Grateful Dead were above this type of thing. It's no different than The Rolling Stones continuing to tour after Mick Jagger dies and calling it Stones and Company....or Stones.....and yea I think especially after Fare Thee Well where they loudly proclaimed this is it, yea I think its wrong. But hey fans in todays world happily pay huge money to see bands with no original members - so they can dance and celebrate to the songs of their youth by cover bands who use the brand name. The Grateful Dead should've been above this, but they're not. So yea, let the "fans" try to relive something they never probably experienced in the first place and let the "Dead" collect upteen millions on them, something Jerry Garcia, who make no mistake was the leader of The Grateful Dead, never did when he was alive. And I do love The Grateful Dead and saw them in 1977 for Terrapin Station.

    • @Timlinmark
      @Timlinmark 3 дні тому

      @ everything is correct except they said it was the last time the 4 original members of the Grateful Dead will play together Phil was never gonna tour like this again he wanted to continue his Phil & Friends with different members all the time They never once played again with the 4 original members so no one went back on their word And were under a lot of pressure with just the discussion of a possible 60 year reunion this coming summer till Phil passed away Just don’t let this sound like a hell freezes over thing The Grateful Dead and their fans don’t deserve that Dead music will be playing for the next 200 years and it will because of the band and the writing of Hunter and Barlow There will never be another musical act like them peace brother thanks for all you do especially working with your local fire dept Nothing but respect for you

      @@Timlinmark Thanks so much. I really do appreciate your comments. Clearly I'm in the minority because Dead and Company are now as big as The Grateful Dead were in their heyday. But for me its semantics because they have now been trading on The Grateful Dead name. I've no problem with Weir and Company touring with Mayer and playing Dead music to keep it alive for the fans. That's wonderful. But we live in a musical world of branding. Very few people care or even know, who's in a band. Just the name. There are so many "big" bands touring and do fantastic business but have even no members that were in the band. But "fans" don't care, they want to see the band and hear the music. But they're really tribute bands, not "the" band. I have a real problem with that. And thats what touring under Dead And Company, or The Dead is. And for me, its disrespectfull to long time "real" Grateful Dead fans who were there and love the band. I never want to see The Rolling Stones tour as The Stones, or Stones And Company with just Keith Richards if Mick Jagger died. In fact as much as I love The Who, I don't even think they should be called The Who now, but it's all about branding. I will not see them now. But again I'm in the minority. Thanks so much again - no disrespect to you either. It's all just music anyway and meant for enjoyment.
