Pitching depth is key with any organization and Morton's track record is really good for pitching quality innings and as far as how much they paid him, it's what the going rate is. The Orioles have made big contact offers to players, just ask Boras, but it's more difficult to attract players than it is for the big clubs and unlike those clubs it just doesn't make sense to overpay. Plus just because there is new ownership that us willing to spend, there's a reason why those billionaires are have succeeded in what they do, it's by making sound financial investments.Look I want the O's to win more than anything, but you've got to be realistic and realize Elias knows more that we do when it comes to making baseball decisions, just look at his track record. Plus it's early January and the Burnes trade happened in February last year so making any reactionary posts before the offseason is not close to being over makes zero sense.

The Pirates' owner, Robert Nutting, is worth 1.1 billion dollars and the tenth-richest owner in the MLB. He has the money; he just doesn't want to spend any of it. There are no owners using food stamps. Some owners want to win and others want to squeeze every dollar by being cheap.

It's a wild comparison as a Marlins fan watching how the Dodgers are willing to spend money on good players while the Marlins are trying to match them in the opposite direction by just not having any players. Looking forward to spring training and seeing Billy the Marlin in the line up.
Dodgers are operating in a way just about any proper championship side does. They're being proactive and efficient and as a Dodgers fan I'm very glad about it!
They are operating in a way that only the Dodgers, Mets, Yankees, and maybe the Red Sox can operate. MLB has to worry about lower revenue fans giving up on the game of baseball for the fact that for many franchises, the hope of contending lies in being almost perfect in scouting and development, which is almost impossible to do. Even then after five years, most other franchises know they have to trade any stars they do develop, before they lose them to free agency. If it weren’t for playing fantasy baseball for 30+ years, I would’ve quit watching baseball long ago, as a fan of a small market team, Cleveland, it gets old having to trade off players because the franchise can’t afford more than one star player on the team. All the while, the Mets and Dodgers spend 3 to 4 times as much as the average team. These big market teams and the players union have to remember that a league needs more than 5-6 teams to remain popular nation wide. There is a reason baseball is no longer the most popular sport in America and football is. The fans of the worst NFL team know that their team has a chance to win with proper team management because the financial playing field is even. Good example Detroit Lions. Tell that to KC baseball fans that understand that at best they may have a 3-5 year window of winning baseball before their team gets too expensive and has to start all over with five years of rebuilding.
The other thing to note about Cartaya and in comparison to Dalton Rushing is the catching situation with the Dodgers. Will Smith is locked up for the next decade so their main position is blocked. However what the Dodgers see in Rushing offensively is enough that he started taking reps in the outfield last year similar to how Jackson Merrill was moved to centerfield since his natural position at short was blocked
@ my assumption was that the Dodgers front office thought he had a higher ceiling than Smith but Smith proved himself more valuable and by that time Cartaya’s stock had dropped. Thus the Dodgers decided to extend Smith and hope Cartaya could regain his value to be a trade piece but unfortunately it hasn’t happened enough yet to necessitate a trade prior to him being DFA’d
The Orioles signing 41-year-old Charlie Morton feels like buying a flip phone in 2024 cheap, outdated, and completely out of touch with what fans deserve...
As an Os fan, the optimism is fading fast. They're terrified of recreating the Davis situation and dont want to give out contracts, but that's the only way to win. Our window is going to close before the front office realizes it.
I think out of all positions that an old pitcher can actually shine. He just needs to learn how to control a different velocity which creates whole new breaks which makes a whole new pitcher but 15m is F’d! CC Sabathia is a perfect example.
to be fair, even though i also think the contracts for morton and sugano aren't the best, the orioles are buying innings. those two guys in their respective leagues have been known to eat up innings to save the bullpen so i think it's smart in that regard and then get an ace type of guy in the trade deadline. also i believe that the orioles are banking on the fact that they expect grayson rodriguez and zach eflin to take a step up from their decent years last year. so i think the orioles will be very active in the starting pitching trade market either now or by the time of the trade deadline

Orioles are adding to the floor. Morton has thrown 160+ innings in every non-shortened season since 2018. Before Morton the only guys to have thrown full seasons previously are Dean Kremer and Zach Eflin. It also allows for them to explore moving a Dean Kremer or a Cade Povich in a trade package for a TOR arm pretty easily. And Morton is projected to be a 1.5 fWAR pitcher in 2025, which based on what Teams are paying $/WAR is right about 15 million. Cost of pitching is high.
Fuzzy. Have you seen The Athletic's organizational rating? As expected the Dodgers are numero uno and nearly twice as good, according to mlb executives, as the second place Rays?
Not even close! Padres lead the league in fan frustration by a WIDE margin. Imagine your playoff team not only doing exactly NOTHING in free agency to take that final step, but actively trying to offload some of their better pieces that got them there. San Diego: Great city, great weather, no commitment to going all the way.
Doyeong Kim is the best hitting talent out of Korea in forever, and yes, I believe the bat is legit better than JHL. He is also a freak athlete that could potentially be a gold glove caliber shortstop. Once he gets posted, the bidding war might be all time fierce.
Do-yeong pronunciation was spot on. Hye-song is “hyeh-song” not “hyuh-song” I respect u trying to get the pronunciations right bc Korean spellings in English are awful lol I never blame people for getting names wrong bc if I couldn’t read Korean I’d definitely mess the names up too
but typically, the ㅎ before the ㅖ makes the “y” silent, so it really becomes “heh”. also, it shouldn’t be “song”, it should be pronounced “sung”. so, heh-sung should be used.
Hey!! Don’t sleep on the ‘Old’ Guys!! Sugano is a known unknown 😂 and Morton is Father Time himself! Both are intelligent pitchers and miss barrels. As a Mets fan I’ve seen ENOUGH of him to say, ‘It’s been fun but glad your gone’ and Sugano I’ve been blessed to watch him on UA-cam for the last few years with the Yomiuri Giants. I’ve watched games where I saw the over match, Sugano > Fighters, Marines, Dragons (name your NPB team) and he may give up two runs but never were there any game where it seemed like he was out of control. He too missed barrels giving a lot work to his 3rd baseman on to first. Orioles’ rotation is going to be interesting to see on the field.
I feel like this is exactly why other sports have paycaps…. It’s okay LA gets a natural advantage because their market and off field deals. I don’t blame them for spending money but I blame the league for not caring about their product. You cannot tell me it’s better for the sport if this guy goes to LA with everyone else rather than spicing up something like the NL central. Caps exist so cities like Kansas City can build dynasties (NFL) instead of them only existing in the two biggest cities.
For clarity… I know other teams “could” have signed him… but they didn’t. In a world with a paycap LA literally doesn’t have the salary space to sign another person. That’s why the cap brings whole league parity. They’d still max out their budget they would just finally reach a saturation point.
The MLB is actually talking of taking this the other way...........instead of a salary cap, putting on a minimal amount a team must reinvest into themselves. Instead of pocketing all that money any buying more yachts and summer mansions!
MLB cant institute a salary cap without agreement from the players union, and I dont believe the players are ever going to vote to limit their earning power.
@@Chinchuchwei_sr Not talking about a pay floor, but instead how every team has to re-invest a certain amount of their revenue back into the team instead of adding to the owners yacht collection! How in the world could anyone be a Yankees fan after that dismal performance in the World Series? Although I did get a big kick out of NYC hiring Aaron Judge to drop the ball during the New Years Eve celebration!!!!!!!!!!
He’s a Guardians fan living in Vegas, he just started doing the hat thing a few weeks ago to represent whoever he is talking about at any given moment haha
The difference is the NFL has a much better revenue sharing system so every team can spend big money. The small and mid market teams in baseball have to be very careful about who they hand out big contracts to. Plus, MLB contracts are 100% fully guaranteed, while NFL contracts are rarely even 50% guaranteed.

Rendon???? Angels depending on Rendon to have a resurgence???? Giving out bad contracts and hoping they get better is EXACTLY why the Angels disappoint year after year.
@@SheepdogsHeart I know. Thats why I am saying if rendon can preform the angels can contend but if he continues to be "injured" then the postseason is out of the question
The Angels will be better than last year but they won't be contenders. They finally started drafting well over the last several years, and they have a nice group of young players. And they'll probably get a very good outfielder at #2 in next year's draft. But they still stink at developing pitching. Remember, Kyle Bradish, mentioned in this video, was originally drafted by the Angels. They just let Patrick Sandoval walk, and they released Griffin Canning They will regret both moves. And Arte just won't pay to get a true top starter.
The small and mid market teams really don’t care. They know they’ll always be at a massive disadvantage and most of the players the Dodgers sign those teams will never be able to afford anyways. I’m sure the Yankees, Mets and Phillies are pretty pissed though.

the offer for the Angels wasn't real it's speculated but some Angels insiders say it isn't true.
last time I checked pitchers get hurt a lot. Charlie Morton is good Insurance but the Orioles need to do more.
Still take a year of a Morton over flat Flaherty.
Congrats Orioles: We have by far the most frustrating team this off season. Such a waste on young talent: Sad.
@ oh damn ur right it’s just heh song
Dude was a Dodger fan while he was growing up in Korea. Nothing the Angels could do, they're not the Dodgers.
Remember when you shouted me out in your all star game voting stream😂
Yet charlie Morton still has better strike out stuff then Corbin burnes
We are not happy. All that talkin about NOT being the Angelos family....hopefully the Morton deal was to open up a trade for one of our #5 starters.
Thank you Fuzzy!
👍
As a Braves fan at least the o’s are doing something praise. What of my team done this year this off-season basically a bunch of nothing.
We will be alright without Charlie Morton. You just gotta believe in AA.
I dont think charlie morton is a bad move at least they’re adding some pitching not like hes bad.
I think the problem is they are loading up on #3 or 4 guys in the rotation without getting a #1 starter.
If the Red Sox get Cartaya, that would be a good replacement since Teel was traded to the White Sox
Dude Cartaya can't hit
As a Dodgers fan I hope the Dodgers get something, anything for a guy that hit his ceiling in AA.
@@randallmarsh1187 no, no paycap has ever come without a pay floor, and no pay floor has ever come without a paycap. Are you a Yankees or dodgers fan?
MLB cant institute a salary cap without agreement from the players union, and I dont believe the players are ever going to vote to limit their earning power.
@@Chinchuchwei_sr Not talking about a pay floor, but instead how every team has to re-invest a certain amount of their revenue back into the team instead of adding to the owners yacht collection! How in the world could anyone be a Yankees fan after that dismal performance in the World Series? Although I did get a big kick out of NYC hiring Aaron Judge to drop the ball during the New Years Eve celebration!!!!!!!!!!
IF, and desperately hoping for, a 'computerized strike zone is implemented, pitcher 'stats' (and value) will certainly change.
Dude, the bro is way rounding up the Orioles signings together we spent almost 30,000,000 on some old guys not the near to 50 that he suggests
Calling $15 mil almost $20 mil is wild 😂
First time watching your channel, with all the hats. What team are you actually a fan of?
He's hardcore Guardians. You can hear it even in this video. 😂
He’s a Guardians fan living in Vegas, he just started doing the hat thing a few weeks ago to represent whoever he is talking about at any given moment haha
I'm a Colts fan and an Oriole fan and if I didn't know any better I think they share notes on how to avoid off season moves.
Morgan will be the goa😂t and young arms can learn a ton. The Japanese vet will bring his wisdom and discipline. This together with assembly line of superstars coming along we are going to quite happy.🎉😊 will miss Tony S
As a Yankees fan even I am confused by the Orioles 😅
This is a good sign for the orioles , he can teach these young arms how to pitch in the big leagues
Fuzzy, sir, they are getting pitching because I needed it. They don’t need hitting.
Kim has 110 strikeouts in lower-level baseball. That figures to improve if he stays in Korea another year or so.
3-7-38 homeruns? That’s an eating a balanced breakfast jump in numbers right there
As an Orioles fan, I am quite excited for Sagano! I like his pitch selection and experience. I am much less interested in Morton. Old.
How did you get those players names to be hyperlinks in the Comments?
Love to see Jackson and Ethan on Cards in 2027
In 2027? Jackson is an oriole for at least 4 more years, Ethan will be a nat for 6 at least (they’re gonna almost certainly draft him number 1), so why would they be cardinals in 2027?
Ethan falls to Cards at 5 and they make a blockbuster move to bring in Jackson
Orioles, being the Orioles, ...no world series win since 1983 or something like that. That's 40 years, folks. Does Angelo's still own this team?
That’s insane, I just watched Infinity War lol
You’re not overreacting on the O’s. As an O’s fan we’re all as confused and mad about the free agency as you are.
MLB is stacking the deck for the Dodgers.
Daulton Rushing is going to be making his MLB Debut 😳 in 2025. Probably as a Left Fielder and backup catcher!
Angels' ceiling is probably being 4-5 games above .500 If rendon can stay healthy and go back to his 2019 verision, that is a big x factor.
Let's just peal the Halos completely, and grab Trout in Right! Lol
Go Doyers!!
And Arte just won't pay to get a true top starter.
hee song, hah song, doe song........c'mon mack, get these right
Fuzzy, you're 100% wrong that the Angels are upset with the Dodgers. More accurately, 29 MLB teams are upset with the Dodgers. Let's Go Dodgers!!!
The small and mid market teams really don’t care. They know they’ll always be at a massive disadvantage and most of the players the Dodgers sign those teams will never be able to afford anyways. I’m sure the Yankees, Mets and Phillies are pretty pissed though.
On Dodgers, the Dodgers are savage 😂
And with that, the O's secure an under .500 finish (obviously joking, I think they at least get a wild card)
meanwhile ppl out here saying LA pays writers to overhype their prospects... no cartaya got dropped bc rushing is up nxt nd 5 C's on the 40 man is malpractice
Bro I had sound down and looked at my screen and thought your caption said Dead instead of DFA’d
Atleast the orioles have done something. The Miami Marlins have spent NOT EVEN A DIME on free agency. Like they have spent more i believe in trades than free agency
When the dodgers have a monopoly the game isn't gonna be worth watching. Just honesty.
Go O's 🧡😅
According to Angels beat writer, Jeff Fletcher, they actually didn’t offer more than the Dodgers. :/
And yet those in the know in the KBO said they did!
@ Possibly. Fletcher is pretty reliable, so I usually trust what he or Sam Blum say regarding them.
